De Algemene Verwarring #117 - 2 September 2024
Episode one hundred and seventeen of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday, September 2, 2024, and you can listen to it by clicking on the link below that will take you directly to the Mixcloud page:
Pictured below is UK post-punk band The Sound. I don't really remember if I have played them before, I probably did. The Sound is one of those many bands that I didn't know the moment they existed and played live shows, and even then I only kind of discovered that they were such a great band after singer and songwriter Adrian Borland had died. I could probably say something similar to what I said about Front 242 in the last episode: The Sound is a band that is too obvious to play in the show, but then again: why not play an absolute classic by a band who obviously influenced nowadays bands that are played in the show, such as Plexi Stad and Beige Banquet? And maybe, just maybe, there is someone out there who will be blown away by the track "I Can't Escape Myself", just like I was blown away when I first heard their track "Winning" years after it was released. That's why we do this, kids!
Other old ànd new music in this episode is coming from New Bomb Turks, Orden Mundial, Midnite Snaxxx, Mclusky, Les Calamités, Bathouse, Videotrauma, Grass Widow, Human Bell, Bridget Hayden, Jeugdbrand and more. And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for the show. Enjoy!

Getting so excited for this year’s THRILLHOUSE WINTER FORMAL!! Always one of my favorite parties, something i look forward to all year. And especially this year, cause we haven’t had a Winter Formal since 2020!! We started doing Winter Formal in 2008 to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Thrillhouse. An awesome show that was FREE as long as you dressed up. Making it a yearly tradition from then on out. And every year it seemed like something to really celebrate! Surviving for another entire year (which isn’t easy). For many years we had the party at thrillhouse, but it eventually got too big to safely and comfortably do in the record store. With only one toilet, and a lacking supply of fire exits. So Knockout has become our new home. Here’s a list of all our past Formals for any of you old timers who remember them.

MIDNITE SNAXXX in Metronome Magazine-Boston:
MIDNITE SNAXXX 7” Single • Contact Contamination • Fight Back
Ever prolific, Midnite Snaxxx used a brief respite in the pandemic to record this effervescent and meaningful single marking a departure from their previous Ramonesque discography. I’m briefly reminded of punkier Siouxsie on the vocal tone and the void like solo. “Fight Back” is relentless and shouty for their most hardcore release yet. I would hazard aguess that there is a serious political message here. Well done. [Gecko]
Moron dem Snaxxx here!

De Algemene Verwarring #49 - 10 May 2021
The forty-ninth episode of De Algemene Verwarring was broadcast on Monday May 10 2021, and you can listen to it by clicking on the Mixcloud widget below. And if that does not work, here’s the direct link to the Mixcloud page:
https://www.mixcloud.com/MedialabKortrijk/de-algemene-verwarring-49-10-mei-2021/
Pictured below is the Australian singer-songwriter Anita Lane, who was in the early Bad Seeds and also collaborated with The Birthday Party. She is pictured at the backside of the From Her To Eternity album, and she wrote the lyrics for one of the most beautiful Bad Seeds songs: Stranger Than Kindness. You don’t have to have an enormous musical output or oeuvre to have an influence or to leave a mark in the history of alternative music. Anita Lane died last week, at the age of 61 - I played a song of her album “Dirty Pearl”, called “The Fullness Of His Cimong”, an early collaboration with The Birthday Party. RIP Anita.
Other music in this episode include tracks from The Cows, Bathouse, Disco Junk, Midnite Snaxxx, Minny Pops, Dachau David, brand new tracks from Isaac and Ignatz, and we end this episode with a killer 17 minutes noise track from Sewer Election.
In other news: De Algemene Verwarring #50 is coming up, and it will not be broadcast on a Monday like it always is, but on Saturday May 22 during Sinksen Radio hosted by Quindo. You can actually listen to the radio on 92.2 FM, from 10pm to midnight, yes a two hours party show!
And beneath the photo you can find the playlist for this show. Enjoy!

Brand new single from MIDNITE SNAXXX
coming 11 January 2021 on black or white waxxx!
MIDNITE SNAXXX "Contact Contamination" EP by Midnite Snaxxx
On their urgent new single, Midnite Snaxxx flex all the might that they’ve honed over the last decade-plus, charging more confidently than ever. Born outta deep frustration and recorded just as the planet entered lockdown, Snaxxx go fully hi-fi with this latest burst, laying down a pair of breathless punk bangers that perfectly soundtrack the swirl of madness and panic we collectively find ourselves grappling with. Expertly arranged and executed punk rock, shot straight from the heart.
