Toekomstvast

Bij mijn werk kom ik vaak het woord "toekomstvast" tegen. Daar word ik dan ongelukkig van. Als je denkt dat je iets toekomstvast kunt maken, denk je waarschijnlijk dat de toekomst stabiel is, of dat je iets kunt maken dat het altijd blijft doen, ook als de omgeving verandert. Dat lijkt me helemaal fout.

Het klinkt ook alsof de toekomst over niet al te lange tijd begint, maar wel op een bepaald moment. Nou heb ik de milleniumovergang in 2000 meegemaakt en in de jaren daarvoor hadden we wel het idee dat er vanaf dat moment dingen anders zouden zijn.

Nou nee, de milleniumbug sloeg niet eens aan. De toekomst is een bewegend doel. Daar kun je je niet op voorbereiden en hij begint ook niet zomaar ineens op een bepaald moment.
