will’s home and person are armed with an array of handguns and rifles for various means, as we’ve seen him wield.
standard issue pistol from the fbi, will primarily carries a sig-sauer p226 as his sidearm. even when he’s not in the field, he’s taken to conceal carrying this pistol. rest assured, it’s always on his person, somewhere.
and if not the sig, then he’s armed with his glock 17. this was a standard issue from his time as a police officer in new orleans, followed by his time as a detective. a personal firearm, will sometimes substitutes his fbi issuance out for the glock. glocks, as a whole, are a more reliable gun with their never jam promise.
in rare instances, and for the conceal-ability of the weapon, will occasionally carries a smith & wesson model 36 --- a six shot snub pistol.
will was formerly in the ownership of a walther ppk, though this is the pistol he gifted to dr. alana bloom with the hope she might protect herself from lurking dangers. currently, he has yet to replace this firearm.
in the range of hunting rifles, will has two.
his remington 700 bdl is the weapon he keeps hidden, but by the front door. in the instance of being attacked in his home by randall tier, this was the rifle he grabbed on the way out the door.
but will also owns a ruger m77 hawkeye --- coincidentally, the same hunting rifle garrett jacob hobbs hunted with.

“...Livia cannot have reached Rome before late summer 39. She and her husband, Tiberius Nero, would probably have returned to their residence on the Palatine if it was still available to them. It may not have been. The Treaty of Misenum stipulated that those who had left Italy in fear for their safety would get their property back; those who, like Tiberius Nero, had been proscribed would recover only a quarter. Livia might thus have found herself in considerably reduced circumstances. Where and when she and Octavian met we have no idea, and we cannot exclude the possible irony that she might have been introduced to him through her aunt by adoption, his then-wife, Scribonia. Dio is the only source to report on how the affair began.
Octavian in 39 bc organised a lavish entertainment to celebrate the shaving of his beard (the event may have been his birthday, on September 23). Dio tells us that Octavian kept his chin smooth afterwards (although coins continue to show him bearded as late as 36). He clearly wanted to look his best because he ‘‘was already (hede) beginning to love Livia.’’ For Livia, Octavian certainly represented a good catch. There are hints that in the eyes of contemporaries she quickly recognised his interest in her and turned it to her advantage. There is evidence that Octavian was already turning to Livia for help and advice well before they were married.
Scribonia complained about her husband’s mistress—almost certainly Livia—upset not by his infatuation, a situation that Roman wives generally learned to handle, but rather by her rival’s nimiam potentiam (excessive power). Potentia is a term generally used of political rather than erotic power. Tacitus seems also to suggest that Livia may well have been active in encouraging Octavian’s attentions, when he says that Octavian took her away from her husband incertum an invitam (it is not certain that she was reluctant). But what did she have to offer him? We can certainly not dismiss the element of pure sexual attraction. Both Tacitus and Velleius speak of Livia’s beauty, forma, although such descriptions of aristocratic Roman women tend to be formulaic, and beauty in a bride may have been as much a commonplace in ancient Rome as it is today.
Tacitus asserted that Octavian was driven essentially by lust, cupidine formae, and a tradition that saw his interest as pure infatuation (amore) persisted down to the fourth century. But Livia had much more than sexual charms to offer. Certainly in his previous matches Octavian had always looked upon marriage as a means of furthering his career. He was betrothed first to Servilia, the daughter of Publius Servilius Isauricus, related by marriage to Brutus, Cassius, and Lepidus, in an engagement that was the product of a political alignment engineered by Cicero early in 43 bc. This first arrangement fell victim to the shifting political tides. When he became reconciled with Antony, to strengthen the new alliance he became engaged to Antony’s stepdaughter Claudia, the child of Fulvia (see chapter 7) and her previous husband, Publius Clodius. The marriage was postponed because of his fiancée’s youth, and the clash with Fulvia ended the arrangement.
The marriage to Scribonia followed in 40 bc. Octavian’s ties to Scribonia would similarly have been weakened when the old problems between himself and Sextus Pompeius reasserted themselves. Velleius, in fact, explicitly places the divorce from Scribonia and the fresh outbreak of hostilities with Sextus in close sequence. In fact, Livia would have seemed an ideal partner. Quite apart from any feelings of affection, she brought significant political benefits to the marriage. Octavian had considerable power. His desperate need now was for status. Although Antony’s taunt of ignobilitas might have been overstated (Octavian’s father had reached the praetorship, which would have given him a technical entrée into the nobilitas), Octavian was seen by the old nobility as something of a revolutionary parvenu, and this formidable obstacle had not yet been overcome even more than a quarter-century later, when, in 12 bc, some of the nobility declined to attend the funeral of his old friend and son-in-law Marcus Agrippa.
Ancestry was a powerful element in making a marriage advantageous. As Tacitus observed in Livia’s obituary notice, she could boast a lofty lineage (nobilitatis . . . clarissimae), and Velleius describes her father as nobilissimus. Thus she would have helped Octavian to strengthen his ties with the old distinguished families. In fact, the union would have a double advantage. It would link Octavian with the powerful and prestigious Claudii. But beyond this the connection with Livius Drusus would resonate throughout Italy and help to strengthen Octavian’s power base. It is worth noting that the names Drusus and Drusilla, both from the Livian side of the lineage, continued to be used by later generations of the family. If Livia has been correctly identified as the mistress who was the target of Scribonia’s complaints, Octavian and Livia began an affair while he was still married to Scribonia. He waited for the birth of his daughter Julia, then immediately arranged a divorce.
Livia for her part secured a divorce from Tiberius Nero in turn, and it is likely that in late September or early October, 39 bc, Octavian and Livia became betrothed. They do not seem to have proceeded immediately to the marriage, probably because by early October, Livia was six months pregnant. Tacitus and Dio say that Octavian sought the guidance of the pontiffs on the problem that the pregnancy raised for her remarriage. Both historians present this consultation in sarcastic terms, perhaps reflecting Antony’s propaganda. Tacitus says that the question was put, per ludibrium (in a farce), whether Livia, with a child conceived but not yet born, could legally wed. Dio provides the same question, and also records their answer: that if there was any doubt about the conception the marriage should be postponed, but if conception was confirmed, then the marriage could take place. Dio is sceptical about their finding this decision in the rules, but says that it was a moot point because they would have given the answer Octavian needed anyhow.
…But there was another bizarre twist to the event. In two places Tacitus retains a tradition that Livia was forcibly removed from Tiberius Nero, that she was abducta Neroni uxor (a wife abducted from Nero) and that Octavian aufert marito (carries off [Livia] from her husband). The cruel characterization of Octavian’s conduct may, again, have originated in Mark Antony’s propaganda. Tacitus and Suetonius refer to letters of Antony’s which apparently survived the triumvir’s disgrace and death. They are brimming with bitter invective against Octavian. The seeds of the story of Livia’s abduction may have been sown by a claim made by Antony that Octavian carried off (abductam) the wife of an ex-consul (unnamed) from her husband’s dining room before his very eyes and took her into the bedchamber, from where she returned with her hair in disorder and her ears glowing (rubentibus auriculis). Was she Livia? Suetonius seems to relate the hasty marriage and the case of the unidentified consular wife as two separate events. Also, Livia’s husband was not of consular rank.
…In fact, Tiberius Nero had always been prepared to bend in the political wind, even if he failed to benefit much from his compliance. Pliny describes him as Octavian’s enemy (hostis), and although this would not, strictly speaking, have been true after the amnesty, there would still have been an inevitable tension between the two men, whose mutual animosity went back to the time of Perusia. The marriage would have offered Tiberius Nero an ideal opportunity to bury his differences with the rising star of the state. Cicero described him as the kind of man who was excessively eager to show gratitude in return for a favour, and most of the ancient sources speak of him as the perfect model of the mari complaisant. This motive may well have been sweetened by another consideration. Octavian’s divorce from Scribonia and marriage to Livia would cause a rift with Sextus Pompeius; this would be to the advantage of Antony, to whom Tiberius Nero might have had a residual loyalty.
And we must also remember that he had received a personal snub from Sextus. Suetonius says that Tiberius Nero petenti Augusto concessit (gave her up to Augustus at his request). In fact, both Dio and Velleius allude to what seems to have been an active, even eager, role for Tiberius Nero in the union, Velleius repeating the same information in two different sections, that he was the one who pledged Livia. Dio says that he officiated at the ceremony, giving away his wife as a father would give up his daughter. It is possible that Antony’s propaganda might have exaggerated his willingness to comply. But there were historical parallels for such behaviour. When the great orator Hortensius persuaded Cato Uticensis, a man known for his upright attachment to principle, to divorce his wife Marcia so that he could marry her, Phillipus, her father, refused to betroth her to her new partner unless Cato joined with him in the formal ceremony. They betrothed her jointly.
Much later, Caligula compelled Memmius Regulus to betroth his ex-wife Lollia Paulina to him. Tiberius Nero’s eagerness to please did cause one embarrassing moment, when he chose to attend the feast following the betrothal. Present at the event was one of the pretty slave boys, the delicia, who were trained in clever and naughty comments and appeared naked as a regular feature at social events of the fashionable. These slaves were selected for their talkativeness, and were particularly appealing if they were impudent and adept at risqué language. Seneca notes that they were trained by special tutors in the art of abuse and observes wryly that because their vulgarity was a matter of professional expertise, what they said was considered not offensive but smart (nec has contumelias vocamus, sed argutias). The slave attending the betrothal feast seems to have lived up to expectations. When he saw Livia reclining next to Octavian, he told her that she was in the wrong place since her husband—as he pointed to Tiberius Nero—was in another part of the room. This would not have been a simple social gaffe, but a deliberately outrageous joke.
The story may, of course, be apocryphal, but it does at the very least suggest that relations between Tiberius Nero and Octavian were cordial enough for the discarded husband to have attended the celebratory feast. Some scholars associate this banquet with a notorious event from Octavian’s past, the cena dodekatheos (Feast of the Twelve Gods), recorded only by Suetonius. At this infamous festivity Octavian and his guests appeared in the guise of gods and goddesses (he took the part of Apollo). Suetonius reports that Antony attacked the escapade in his letters, naming the guests (the list is not provided), and there was also an anonymous and ribald lampoon which suggests that Octavian produced a burlesque about ‘‘novel debaucheries of the gods’’ (nova divorum . . . adulteria) ending with Jupiter falling from his throne. According to Suetonius, the scandal became the subject of common gossip, which was all the more avid because there was a severe famine in the city, leading to the jocular comment that the gods had eaten all the grain.
In 40 bc Sextus Pompeius had cut off the corn supply and there were popular disturbances; Octavian was even stoned. The Treaty of Misenum would have removed the root cause of these supply difficulties, but it would have taken a while for the problem to be totally alleviated, and there are reports of famine in the years 39, 38, and 36, any one of which might in fact have been the year of the banquet. Whatever the date, Livia would almost certainly have been one of the guests at this celebration. Following the betrothal it seems that Livia joined Octavian at his home on the Palatine. It is probably safe to assume that at this stage they were not yet married. There is, however, some confusion in the sources about the relationship of their wedding to the birth of Livia’s second son, Drusus. The information in Suetonius and Dio that Drusus came into the world after the marriage may have resulted from a confusion between the betrothal and the wedding. Antony seems to have been the source of this confusion, for he maliciously charged that the ‘‘wedding’’ was hasty (festinatas Liviae nuptias), probably in allusion to a hasty betrothal in early October following their initial meeting in September.
Early in 38 Drusus was born in Octavian’s Palatine home (intra Caesaris penates). The actual day can be deduced as January 14. The marriage took place very soon afterwards, in a year that began with a number of compelling omens. The hut of Romulus was burnt down on the Palatine during a religious ritual. The statue of Virtus fell on its face. A rumour spread that the Magna Mater was angry with the Romans, causing panic. Purification rites were carried out, and people were reassured when four palm trees sprang up near her temple on the Palatine and in the Forum. Dio reports that in the midst of these dramatic occurrences Octavian and Livia married. The Fasti Verulani record the date as January 17 (38 bc). It seems that Octavian had simply waited a brief while for Livia to recover from delivering Drusus, then proceeded straight to the wedding. Inevitably, these events led to considerable gossip about the true paternity of Drusus, and humorists coined a line in Greek, preserved in Suetonius and paraphrased by Dio, about some being lucky in having trimena paidia (children in three months).
This became a proverbial saying, and seems to have been parodied by Caligula, who married his last wife, Caesonia, when she was close to the end of her term so that he could beget a paidion triakonthemeron (a thirty day child). There was also a rumour that Octavian was Drusus’ real father, a belief no doubt encouraged by his deep sorrow on the young man’s death in 9 bc. This last particular ghost can surely be laid to rest. Livia must have conceived in late March or early April 39, before the Treaty of Misenum and the amnesty that brought her and her first husband back to Rome and into the company of Octavian. It may have been to discourage such gossip that after the birth Octavian sent the infant Drusus to his father and made an entry in the record (hypomnemata) of the fact that it was Tiberius Nero who was the father. But it should be noted that it was normal for a man marrying a pregnant woman to send the child to the natural father.
In the event Tiberius Nero does not seem to have made much, if any, political capital out of his compliance. When he died, some six years after the wedding, in 32 bc or the end of 33, he named Octavian in his will as guardian (tutor) to both his sons. In accordance with Roman tradition, his first son, Tiberius, now nine years old, delivered the funeral elegy. Tiberius Nero, Livia’s first husband, thus quitted the scene, a tired failure, the brilliant hopes of his youth unrealised. The scandal provoked by the unusual marriage continued to haunt Octavian. A decade later (29–28 bc), while he was exercising the power of censor, someone brought before him a young man who had committed adultery with a married woman but then had afterwards married the woman in question. Octavian was in a major quandary, but he dealt with it prudently. He suggested that they forget the quarrels of the past and look to the future.”

#OHHHH icic #yeah idk why they're changing the brand name for this one specifically but maybe they just couldn't get the licensing for this series #model 38 is really similar to 36 as they're both snub-nosed revolvers; the chief differences are subtle and really interesting: #(a) model 38 is only ever chambered in .357 or .38 special #-so he's almost certainly using the same caliber of bullet he uses later (although it's less common than .38 special) #and (b) while the model 36 was marketed as a police-grade weapon (the 'chief's special') #the model 38* was part of the 'bodyguard' family of revolvers#it's also called the 'smith & wesson bodyguard' #which. if you consider jigen's whole dealio#makes a whole lot more sense
@looping-the-third I'm adding your tags to this reblog to avoid making branches ^^
Thank you for the addition! I couldn't find anything actually called a Model 38, do you have a link to that?
(also don't hesitate to add your info in a reblog, don't leave it in the tags!)

hewwo, comrade. i need help. i might be getting my carry license soon and i’m torn between the walther ppk/s and the smith & wesson model 36. with the walther it was the first design i fell in love w when i got into firearms but given its history i.e. WW2 seems a lil iffy. with the s&w it was the first pistol i ever fired and i love the iconography of a snub nose .38 and its on goodfellas my fav movie of all time. need ur opinion on either piece.
Tbh I would PERSONALLY not carry either because I think it’s a bad idea to drop below ten rounds but I’d go PPK because you could carry an extra mag and it’s much easier to reload quickly than a revolver. I also think you should take the money you save to get some ammo and training- the 36 is a bit expensive. I also think the hammer on the 36 is just too big for concealed carry and honestly don’t like the external hammer on the PPK for carry for the same reason, though that hammer is smaller and rounder/seems less likely to catch on clothing.
I wouldn’t worry about the history of the firearm much tbh- all firearms manufacturers are evil to some extent and it’s not like Nazis own Walther today.

The Persian Cat - The Breed Cat's Pajamas
Tumblr media
The Persian Cat - The Breed Cat's Pajamas
The snub-nosed Persian Cat ranks number one among cat fanciers. Believed to have originated in Asia Minor, the Persian's European debut is credited to Pietro Della Valle, an Italian writer, and traveler. The look of the modern Persian Cat has changed drastically since the days of Della Valle. In 1903 Frances Simpson, an English cat breeder, and judge declared there should be two separate breeds of Persian Cat -- the longhair and shorthair. At this same time in the United States, there were several separate standards for Persian cats. Whatever physical standards the Persian Cat may meet, this aristocrat of catdom is well known for its charisma and loyalty. Persian Cat Is the Top Cat As the Persian Cat goes, so goes the cat fancy. There are stars and there are superstars, trends and megatrends, plans and master plans. There are 40-some-odd breeds of cats, depending on who's counting, and there are Persians cats. No offense meant, and none taken I hope, by the faithful communicants in the other denominations of the Feline Church of What's Happening Now; but when pushed-in-face comes to shove, the Persian is the cat's meow and the cat's pajamas, too -- the once and present and most likely future pastor of the four-legged congregation in fur. These days the pastor, like the rest of the pedigreed assembly, is living in somewhat reduced circumstances. Since 1990, when the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) enrolled a record 84,729 new cats and kittens (a record 60,661 of which were Persians cats), registration figures have fallen like a barometer in Kansas when there's a twister in the works. By 1997, after seven consecutive years of diminishing returns, CFA's new registrations had dropped to 65,183, a free fall of 23 percent. During those seven years of famine, Persian registrations fell even more freely -- to 39,119, a 36 percent plunge. Not to put too blunt a point on things, but if pedigreed cats were a money-market fund, you'd be wise to look for a different broker. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || ).push({}); Persian Cat - Scenic Cruise Admittedly the Persian's stove-in face is not everyone's cup of tears. Anybody who owns a Persian Cat has probably been asked by some comedic genius: "What happened to your cat's face? Did it run into a wall?" Sometimes that comedic genius is a writer. About six months ago a British newspaper article describing a lost Persian Cat waiting to be adopted from a cat shelter carried the following headline: "All little ugly wants is a little love ... Snub-nosed Persian Cat needs a home." We do not agree with anyone who says Persian cats are ugly, and despite the breed's present reversal of fortune, let us not forget that three out of every five cats registered these days are Persians. What's more, this cat possesses a grand, illustrious heritage. Persian cats are thought to have originated in Asia Minor. They first appeared in Europe -- most likely in Italy -- early in the 17th century. Pietro Della Valle (1586-1652), an Italian traveler and author, is often credited with being the agent of their importation. A well-schooled member of a noble family, Della Valle left Venice in June 1614, on a pilgrimage that ultimately lasted a dozen years. His travels were inspired, in the beginning at least, by an unfortunate love affair. Persian Cat - What Grand times those Must Have Been? When the lovelorn and the heartsick go on a pilgrimage nowadays, they're most likely to travel through an Internet chat room, a karaoke bar, the local Borders or a Club Med cruise. Della Valle, for his part, went from Venice to Constantinople, Alexandria, Cairo, Jerusalem, Damascus, Aleppo and Baghdad. Thanks to the restorative properties of travel, he was able to set aside his melancholy long enough in Baghdad to marry a nice Syrian Christian named Maani, who accompanied him on his further travels. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, "It was probably on account of his marriage that visited Persia, for the parents of his wife had been robbed by Kurds. In 1618 he was hospitably received in Northern Persia by the Shah Abbas the Great." Acting as the mediator between the shah and the Christians of Persia, Della Valle spent four years exploring that country. Then he spent two years in India, finally returning to Italy in 1626 with his second wife, his first wife having died in 1621. Della Valle wrote 54 letters describing his adventures on the road. They were published in three volumes between 1650 and 1653. In one letter he rhapsodized over "a species of cats" in the Persian province of Chorazan whose beauty consisted "in the color of their hair, which is gray, soft as silk, and so long that ... it forms ringlets in some parts, particularly under the throat." Della Valle described these gray, longhair cats as "very tame" and reported that the Portuguese had brought them from Persia to India. He also reported that he planned to bring home "four couple" of these striking felines from Chorazan province. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || ).push({}); If You've Seen One More than a century after Persian cats was first seen in Europe, the French naturalist Count de Buffon (1707-1778) observed that Persians "have a perfect resemblance to the cat of the Angora." Thus, de Buffon theorized, Persians and Angoras "constitute but one race, whose beauty proceeds from the particular influence of the climate" in their place of origin. While de Buffon believed that climate had created "the most beautiful and longest hair" on Persians and Angoras, their coats probably resulted from a more elementary influence: a recessive, mutation gene that was preserved among the cats living in the confined mountain areas of Turkey and Persia. By today's standards, incidentally, the original Persian's coat was relatively short and somewhat coarse. Indeed, the 17th and 18th-century Persian bears about as much resemblance to the late-20th-century model as a crossbow does to an MX missile. The English Patient - Persian Cat Pietro Della Valle was not the only traveler to return to Europe with longhair cats from Persia and Turkey. Other tourists, inspired by the popularity and beauty of these exotic creatures, brought additional longhairs to France and, finally, to England, where they were known as French cats until the middle of the 19th century. Despite these differences, the two types were bred together interchangeably, and their offspring were cataloged and judged under the simple descriptive designation longhairs. Gradually, however, the Angora gave way to the Persian, as did the Russian longhair, a cat that was seen for a time at early shows. By 1903, Frances Simpson, an English cat breeder, author, and judge declared, "There are two distinct breeds, viz., the Long-haired or Persian Cats, and Short-haired or English and Foreign Cats." The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy, organized in England in 1910, decided that all cats with long hair -- be they Persians, Angoras, Russians or all of the above combined -- should continue to be called longhairs and that each longhair color should constitute a separate breed. Persian Cat - Colors of the Wind When the cat fancy was getting a claw hold in the United States around the turn of the century, Americans had been importing Persians from England for several years. Nevertheless, until the early 1900s, the Maine coon cat was the dominant longhair at shows in this country. In 1903, the year that Frances Simpson wrote Cats and All About Them, separate standards existed in the United States for blue Persians, orange Persians (both solid colored and tabby), creams (also know as fawns), orange-and-white cats (longhair and shorthair) and white Persians, which were judged in two classes -- one for blue-eyed-whites, the other for golden-eyed whites. There were also separate standards for shaded silvers, chinchillas, and tortoiseshells. As in England, Persian cats were registered as longhairs. This custom, which still persists in England today, obtained in the United States until the mid-1950s when Persian, which had long been used as an informal designation, became the official name of the breed, and all Persians were expected to conform to the one standard. Today, the gray, longhair species that Della Valle described 375 years ago has blossomed into a colorful array. Indeed, so plentiful are the Persian colors that they have been sorted into various color divisions: solid, silver-and-golden, shaded-and-smoke, tabby, parti-color, calico-and-bicolor, and Himalayan. (In most associations the Himalayan is still considered a separate breed rather than a variety of Persian. Himalayans, of course, were created by crossing Persians with Siamese, and Persian cats are still allowable and necessary outcrosses in Himalayan breeding programs.)

The Persian Cat - The Breed Cat's Pajamas (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || ).push({}); Persian Cat - The Mogfather Although the Persian Cat looks like -- and is -- the aristocrat of the cat fancy, the breed's quiet charms, and devotion are its greatest treasures. Few stories we have seen recently better illustrate the Persian's capacity for companionship than the tales of George A. Smallsreed Jr. and Marco Milano. Smallsreed, who died last May 16 at the age of 75, was a racetrack photographer. His longtime companion, a male Persian Cat named Whitey, had died in 1991 in his 18th year. Smallsreed told friends and relatives that when he died, he wanted his cremated remains mixed with Whitey's, which he had saved. Their ashes, said Smallsreed, should then be scattered at various harness tracks. Unfortunately, a probate court prevented any items from being removed from Smallsreed's house - including the vase with Whitey's ashes in it on the mantlepiece. Therefore, until his estate is settled, only Smallsreed's ashes can be scattered at racetracks holding memorial services in his memory. Nevertheless, a fellow photographer reserved some of Smallsreed's ashes in 35-millimeter film canisters so that one-day Smallsreed and Whitey will be reunited. Marco Milano's story is somewhat less homespun than Smallsreed's, though no less affecting. Milano, a Mafia member who fled Italy for Canada to avoid the attention of Italian police, agreed in May 1997 after three years on the lam to give himself up, providing be would be allowed to share his prison cell with his Persian cat, Minu. Nicknamed The Mogfather by one writer, Milano, then 36, voluntarily returned from Montreal with Minu after obtaining a pledge from Italian authorities that Minu would be allowed to stay with him at the Sicilian prison where Milano will serve an eight-year sentence for Mafia association. The Persian Cat Building Code Through scores of generations of selective breeding, Persian Cat fanciers have honed, refined and polished their creations -- and challenged the wisdom of nature along the way. For nature, it has been said, would never have designed a cat that has to wear a bib in the show hall -- and sometimes at home -- to keep itself clean while it eats. Yet what is animal breeding about if it isn't about pulling the wool over Mother Nature's eyes on occasion? And no other cat breed does this with the mellow, seductive, laid-back elan of the Persian. Everything about the cat -- beginning with its long, stunningly foppish coat -- flaunts a calculated triumph of the recessive over the reasonable. The Persian sports a broad, massive, carved-out-of-stone head; small, wide-set, almost invisible ears; big, poppy, drive-a-truck-between-'em eyes; and a short, short, short snub nose -- so short you often need a search warrant to find it. This arresting head is connected by a size-19 neck (resembling a linebacker on steroids) to a body that is cobby with a capital C, has five-fathom depth throughout shoulders and chest, a hind end like a quarter horse, a tail short enough to be an afterthought and legs like miniature redwoods. All of this substance is wrapped in a stylish, super long coat that manages to be dense in texture and cloudlike in an appearance at the same time. This glorious coat features an immense ruff that continues in a deep frill between the front legs, and pantaloons on the hind legs that cede nothing to the most elaborate, falling-off- the-butt hip-hop trousers. Such a coat is not without imperatives, however. The Persian's celestial beauty must be maintained with the earthly toil of combing and brushing on an almost daily basis. The Persian's face, which is subject to staining and caking from inadequate tear drainage, must also be washed virtually every day. Persian Cat Personality Profile Persians Cats are the most mellow, sedentary and equable cats ever created. Sweet of expression and temperament, soft to the touch and to the ear, they are the perfect companions for a quiet, rainy-afternoon nap or a late-night curl-up by the fireplace with a book. As one cat-show judge said to The Florida Times-Union regarding Persians, "If you're a couch potato, they'll lie on your lap all day." Yet Persians Cats are not totally inert, nor completely incapable of mischief. A Persian Cat named Munchkin who lives in Northwich, England, is suspected of summoning the police to his startled owner's door. After the woman had convinced the police she hadn't dialed the 999 emergency number, they were at a loss to determine who had used her phone to dial the number and then whine into the receiver. They got their breakthrough clue when they noticed Munchkin sitting on a windowsill by the telephone. "Munchkin must have sat on the telephone," said his owner, Linda Seymour, 31, "and somehow activated the hands-free button and dialed the emergency number. The operator could hear him crying and called the police. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || ).push({}); Follow us on : Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest   Read the full article

Dada’s Boys: Introduction
Dada’s Boys: Masculinity after Duchamp  David Hopkins Yale University Press , 2007  p. 1- 11
With the approval of my instructor, I’ve moved onto exploring masculinity and the male psyche in the modern and contemporary era. By chance, I came across this book titled Dada’s Boys, and could not be more elated. I’m going to take very quick notes after every chapter to hopefully get a grasp of David Hopkins’ thoughtful work. This will be a semi-permanent way to collect names, works, and vocabulary without worrying about pages in a book. I will distinguish my personal thoughts with some asterisks.
Happy international women’s day!

INTRODUCTION NOTES
The “post-Duchampian male inter-subjectivity” ?
Central point: modern art and modern conversation, where “masculinity self-consciously addressed and ironised within modernism” [p3] - that unprecedentedly works produced were from an unapologetic male view point.
Hopkins argues
my account of twentieth-century art is born out of a sequence of clandestine agreements and negotiations between ‘men in crisis’, rather than via strategic cultural statements (although the ‘crises’ to which the men are subject are in themselves culturally determined, as I show, not least by aspects of feminist theory.) [p9]
** I like this book because, I think a part of me revels in the sweet ‘revenge’ ? of always analyzing the female behavior, to finally meeting a book that gives male behavior, though male artists that practices ‘ironic masculinity’ -- i.e. understood their disposition and parodied it -- ... I think there is something inherently scary about the most maley-male-male idea, an erect phallocentric monument that dwarfs any subject that is ‘lacking’ ... There is some vindication in my mind in this journey -- something along the lines of, “why can’t *he* be a little bit self-reflective?!”
** I also like that it is very self aware; DH situates this book within the important feminist studies and gives the necessary respect to the male artists in this journey.
VOCABULARY + IDEAS  (to be researched in the future?)
HOMOSOCIALITY - Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick
‘soft’ ‘sensitive’ masculinity - Abigail Solomon-Godeau
masochistic male position - Kaja Silverman
gender-as-performative - Judith Butler
PHALLOGOCENTRIC - Stephen Heath
‘masculinity is hard to grasp..’ - Peter Middleton
Freudian male sexual development and self definition - Jacques Lacan
** DH rightfully points out that a lot more women writers and academics have given the heterosexual male some spotlight.
PASSAGES
As I have said, my central aim has been to produce an account of un-cowed men who were, nevertheless, highly self-conscious about the problematic nature of male identity. These men are not apologetic about their maleness, but neither do they endorse phallic assertivity or power. they are deeply amused by themselves, enjoying and reveling in the conventions of male repartee, but they often raise poignant questions about male insufficiency or doubt. They explore taboo bodily processes and the mechanisms of desire and attraction, while being pointedly ironic about male narcissism and pride. They are fascinated by satorial display but frequently wary of uniforms and pack instinct. Ultimately, they possess qualities that we admire in young boys, but worry about in grown men: the urge to transgress, to snub decorum. They offer a slightly dangerous, but compelling model of male redefinition, which operates in a productive tension with the imperatives of ‘political correctness.’ [p9-10]
I love the “the urge to transgress, to snub decorum” line but wanted to also provide the context to it.
MORE THOUGHTS * * *
Today in history class, I presented about Robert Moses and his ‘urban planning’ of New York. I also introduced Jane Jacobs whom I’ve learned about first. One young male student (who, in my experience, has that sort of juvenile attitude?) asked why they were not considered equals; JJ was a writer and journalist; RM was never elected to office; neither of them were ‘elected,’ so did they not possess the same power?
I think somewhere between early feminism, backlash to feminism, and the ‘male crisis’ re-lit by the ‘threats’ of #metoo ... We’ve lost again even the monumental achievements of feminism, where these ingrained differences of power between gender in (at least) American society. I’m reminded of the ‘white fantasy’ of ‘race reconciliation,’ where in movies like Driving Ms. Daisy and The Green Whatever, both Oscar winners, imagine a world where by the virtue of spending time with a Black person, one’s racism is cured and there was no racism at all! ...
I’m not too well versed in feminist dialogues but recognize the similarities between race and sex. It is all about power dynamics. I am really curious to learn about these practitioners of ‘ironic masculinity’ and their motivations and actions.

The attractive duo were seen locking lips and catching rays as they embraced and laughed amid the beachy scene. Chris went shirtless while carrying a large surfboard into the waves, and Elsa rocked a white two-piece bikini with a wide-brim hat. The two, who have been married since 2010, were also joined by their three kids, 6-year-old India Rose and 4-year-old twins Tristan and Sasha. Although Chris and Elsa always look stunning together on the red carpet, they seem to especially love getting cozy on the beach. Just last week, they were hugging and kissing at the same beach and got close during another seaside outing in April. Chris, who recently finished filming the Men in Black reboot, has previously talked about the importance of spending time with his family. Elsa has also shared sweet family moments and cherishes spending time together. Look on to see more cute photos of their most recent day out by the shore. Alves chose to fulfill a childhood dream when he joined Sao Paulo and snubbed Man City and Barcelona
We were warned that he might return, but still, when Dani Alves announced that he would join Sao Paulo would add on a three-year deal, the movement sent shock waves around Brazilian football.
Wounded for PSG at the end of 2017/2018, the most decorated person in football has missed the opportunity to represent Brazil in Russia at the Worldcup.
Despite claims that he might have ended at the top table, a miraculous comeback was made in the next campaign this summer to Captain Brazil in honor of the Copa America and becomes a player of the called tournament.
Lifelong Sao Paulo fan Dani Alves became this summer club member for a three-year deal
During the competition, the hosts slowly but gradually improved towards the end, Alves was bombed in press conferences and ended up in the mixed zone as where his future , still uncertain at that time with his PSG contract would break off, would lie.
Halfway through the competition, he announced through his social network accounts that at least his two-year spell in the French capital had ended, which only increased rumors of a possible return to Barcelona or a reunion with Pep Guardiola in Manchester City .
Indeed, in the following days Brazil's 3-1 victory over Peru, in which they lift their first piece of silverware in 12 years, reports revealed that the 36-year-old was on his way to Europe to negotiate. with Etihad officials and had offered himself to Barca President Josep Bartomeu.
Top brasser in Sao Paulo FC, including USA & # 39; 94 winner Rai and former West Brom who defended Diego Lugano, had worked hard on the scenes to lure Alves, who finally succumbed to their progress in early August.
There were wild scenes when Alves was unveiled this month as a player from Sao Paulo
Set by Sao Paulo Guarulhos International, his new employers pulled everything out of the closet for another major unveiling in their Morumbi stadium. Attended by more than 45,000 fans, releasing torches and singing their lungs to give the show a feeling of the final, there were video attributes from Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez while club legends Kaka and Luis Fabiano welcomed him personally.
During a press conference before he took to the field, Alves, obviously nervous, took the opportunity to end speculation on a few things. He was not the biggest Brazilian transfer ever, and instead the cheapest in the history of the game, given that only Barcelona had paid him money in the course of his hugely successful career.
Yes, there was an offer from Europe, but no one was stronger than enabling him to fulfill a childhood dream by joining the club that he was a child in the Bahia countryside about 2000 km to the Northeast.
This fandom took into account his decision to take the number 10 jersey as a tribute to Rai. That was the willingness to attract the Tricolor as quickly as possible, Alves argued a few days later against the Brazilian Series A leaders Santos. These calls were not answered, but the patience of both player and audience paid off. The next weekend a fairy tale debut was allowed to take place in the Morumbi when Sao Paulo organized Ceara.
The 36-year-old Brazilian defender led the hosts to Copa America glory this summer
He was often back immediately when playing the current number 10, not to be seen better in the 2-0 Copa America final victory of Brazil against Argentina in the Mineirao, Alves scored the sole goal of the game against midfield attacks when he was assisted five minutes before the break by fellow newcomer Juanfran
A midweek victory against Atheltico Paranaense that was staged midweek, Sao Paulo extended their winning series and are now only three points ahead drift even in the light of a 2 -0 loss against Vasco in Rio.
Alves' impact was immediate, his influence on the younger members of the team such as the budding Antony clear. His mere presence is an inspiration to those at the world-famous Cotia academy, who in recent years has picked talents such as Casemiro, David Neres and Ederson through the gates.
Sources at the club claim that Alves is planning to visit soon and pass on his wisdom to the youth, but there is also a desire to act nationally as a role model at a time when young Brazilian women men need good references & # 39 ;, as he stated at his unveiling.
Alves alone is an inspiration for young players at the famous Cotia academy
A number of his compatriots teammates have sewn the divisive President Jair Bolsonaro, or have been sitting on the fence for fear of taking a position. On the contrary, the national team captain handed the Copa America trophy to the Maracana because the controversial figure was vocal and critical of the Amazon wildfire crisis that has shocked the global community this week.
The good Crazy side of his character, however, is not completely abandoned. Birds already has a song and music video with MC MAC from the local funk genre influenced by the bass and gangster rap from Miami.
Playing at the gallery, his Spanish model wife Joana Sanz has joined him at the request of the fans in the largest city in the southern hemisphere. Likewise, she will continue her career there.
Alves would like to emphasize that he is not here to check off bucket list items. He returned home to deliver silverware to a sleeping giant who had worked without it for seven years. The promise of regular football and increasing his chances of playing for Brazil in Qatar in 2022, by the time he is approaching 40, offer additional motivations.
Calling to Tite & # 39; s next team against Colombia and Peru for the Selecao in September, it has so far been good for a professional model and a serial winner who is not showing any signs of delay.
