“From a very young age, I have been exposed to entrepreneurship but I didn’t really have any interest in it until recently. It started with the Startup Weekend Miri 2017, a hackathon held over a weekend all around the world. Although our team didn’t win, it sparked the idea of creating a mini Silicon Valley of sorts at Curtin Malaysia.
“To make it a reality, we established The Founders Club, an entrepreneurship club committed to building a grassroots-level startup ecosystem involving youth communities throughout Sarawak with the help of startup enablers such as the SMA-TEGAS Digital Innovation Hub and MaGIC.
“Frankly speaking, I never thought I would be this involved in the world of entrepreneurship, especially as I’m by nature quite an introvert. Startup was a term we had never even heard of prior to the hackathon, but today, each of us is either involved in own startup or contemplating starting one. Admittedly, it has been a struggle getting our startups off the ground, but through sheer grit and determination, we have achieved much success.
“I am really looking forward to what I can achieve in the future as I really love what I’m doing now. Hopefully, I will get to work with more like-minded people, and together, we’ll make a positive impact on our society.” -Hamza Hamizan, Computer Systems and Networking student

COVID-19 Unaccompanied Child Migrants Reunited with Their Families in Ethiopia, by IOM
New Post has been published on http://khalilhumam.com/covid-19-unaccompanied-child-migrants-reunited-with-their-families-in-ethiopia-by-iom/
COVID-19 Unaccompanied Child Migrants Reunited with Their Families in Ethiopia, by IOM
Addis Ababa – The issue of unaccompanied migrant children in Ethiopia has been a challenge for the authorities, and the COVID-19 pandemic has shone a spotlight on just how serious a problem it is. Over 8,300 unaccompanied migrant children have returned to Ethiopia mainly from Gulf countries over the last three years.  So far in 2020, hundreds of child migrants who have returned to Ethiopia due to COVID-19 are being reunited with their families with the help of IOM, the International Organization for Migration.  IOM has learned many minors require medical and psychosocial support having endured difficult journeys to reach home. Due to shock and trauma, some are unable to remember their family members and contacts. In such cases the designated social workers refer the minors to mental health specialists at the quarantine facilities and escort them to their hometowns once they are fit to travel.  “We have been personally escorting these young children to their regional towns to look for their families physically, while liaising with local government officials on possible names, addresses, and telephone numbers of potential family members,” said Tirusew Getachew, a social worker seconded by UNICEF at the Ministry of Women, Children, and Youth.  Since the start of the global pandemic, nearly 500 minors, including children between the ages of 15 and 17, have arrived in the country from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Djibouti among other nations. Many left Ethiopia by themselves, and some lost contact with their families while undertaking dangerous and risky journeys mainly to Gulf countries seeking work.   After arriving home, many of the children have spent time in quarantine facilities in the capital, Addis Ababa. With the help of IOM and government designated social workers, working with government authorities, their families have been traced by collecting biodata from the unaccompanied minors upon arrival to quarantine facilities, then using contact information and addresses to try and find their families.   For those who do find their families, IOM covers their travel costs to reunite them. IOM may also provide small cash grants to the parents or guardians looking after the children, thanks to funding from the US Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM).  “PRM’s assistance comes at a vital time when the impact of COVID-19 on returning migrants, migrant children, and the country at large, are indeterminable. The need to mobilize resources and support the Government of Ethiopia’s response to helping the migrant children is immediate,” said Malambo Moonga, the Head of Migration Management at IOM Ethiopia.   Family tracing and reunification is part and parcel of IOM Ethiopia’s commitment to deliver the Regional Migrant Response Plan (2018-2020), a framework which aims to meet the humanitarian and protection needs of an estimated 235,000 vulnerable migrants in Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia and Yemen.   “The impact that family tracing and reunification services being provided by IOM and its partners has, especially on migrant children, is unparalleled. At times, unaccompanied minors return with severe psychosocial distress, having experienced trauma on their migration journey,” said Alemitu Umod, Ethiopia Minister for Women, Children, and Youth.  For more information, please contact Haimanot Abebe at IOM Ethiopia, Tel: +251 47 551 0899 (Ext. 1260), Email: [email protected]

Grateful thanks from parents!
This letter (beautifully handwritten) is from a family we visited by walking a few kilometres from the school to their farm in 2013. Note that their youngest is attending Pre-School, which has this name above the front door: “Anne Helmus Memorial Pre-School”.
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We are parents of Siabalumbi Christian School, and have children attending school at the school you built for us. We have three girls and two boys in school. The young boy ins in Pre-School, and the elder boy is in Grade nine. There three girls are in the following classes: Grades three, six and seven.
Brothers and sisters, we would like to thank you for your donations towards the building of our school here. Had it not been for your money towards the building of the school, our children would have been travelling long distances to other schools. Thank you so much to what you have done for us.
May the almighty God our father abundantly bless you and your families. Your reward is not on earth but somewhere beyond the sky. May your open hands continue till His coming.l
In Christian love,
Mr. & Mrs. Moonga

04. Nocturnal Phosphenes
Written by MOONGA K.
Music by Andrew Williams
Mixed by Andrew Williams
Mastered by Fin Mastering
nocturnal: active at night
phosphenes: the stars and colors you see when you rub your eyes.
The fourth track is a song about self-love. I put the title together by joining some of my favorite words and it seemed to fit. Because nocturnal means night, the first line had to bring about the night-time element hence “night-loving beings intertwined by the love of light” - i tend to see human beings as figures of light and we can connect with that figurative luminescence.
“you can’t fight the truth, right now it’s all uncool” - means that we have to accept the bad when the bad comes but we should “let go of the blues” and keep the “bliss in tune.” Even when chaos rings, stay calm - stay content because we’re alive, we’re light.
LYRICS:
night-loving beings intertwined by the love of light moving at ease feels right pulsating rhythms take hold move electrically into our souls this we know, this we know, this we know
you can't fight the truth right now, it's all uncool let go of the blues keep your bliss in tune
look at that trigger of a pistol and say no it'll shock you how far your confidence will show that's power, that's love, that's God you're the only one who could mess it up so, what you gonna do? What you gonna do?
you can't fight the truth right now, it's all uncool let go of the blues keep your bliss in tune
cause it's all just temporary all just ordinary it'll fade just rest and breathe easy cause the night's still young, so keep your heart safe
now you've got a colorful mind but they wanna keep it in black and white but that ain't right and you can feel it you can feel that strength it's in you let it out in the day and the night don't do it with doubts because you're perfect, you're beautiful, can't you see? 'cause the past is heavy and the future is vague but right now, in this moment, you control where your heart lays
you gotta have your own vibe to stay alive x8
you can't fight the truth right now, it's all uncool let go of the blues keep your bliss in tune
cause it's all just temporary all just ordinary it'll fade just rest and breathe easy cause the night's still young, so keep your heart safe

“I’m very fond of Curtin Malaysia because of its beautiful environment. Imagine working in a place with all the sounds of nature but still connected to modernity though strong wi-fi (lucky me!). As a nature lover, it has been my dream workplace for the past six years. I find it very therapeutic coming to work every day because the walk to the office feels like a walk in the park. Furthermore, I’m fortunate to have an office with a view of the beautiful campus lake.
“Other than the great environment, I get to work with wonderful colleagues who are like family to me. Everyone is very supportive of each other, they work hard and know how to have fun at the same time, and everyone has a great sense of humour. I also appreciate the opportunities to work with our marketing team on CSR in schools where I get to volunteer my time and expertise to benefit young people.
“Teaching has always been my passion since I was 16 and I appreciate all my students of different nationalities and backgrounds. Every student is unique with different perspectives and it is always a joy interacting with them.” –Hanin Naziha Binti Hasnor, Lecturer in Culture and Language Department, Faculty of Humanities
