KIM JISOO

Kim Ji-soo, más conocida como Jisoo, es una cantante, actriz, modelo, bailarina y presentadora surcoreana, miembro del grupo Blackpink. Se unió a YG Entertainment en 2011 y se convirtió en aprendiz durante cinco años antes de debutar con Blackpink en agosto de 2016.

Jisoo nació en Seúl, Corea del Sur, vivía con sus padres, abuelos, hermano mayor y hermana mayor. Desde pequeña Jisoo siempre quiso ser una Idol de k-pop, sin embargo sus padres hacían comentarios sobre lo fea que era, llegando al punto de llamarla "mono" haciéndola dudar si debería ser o no idol de k-pop pero ella no se rindió y no dejo que esos comentarios negativos la afectarán. Durante su niñez jugaba baloncesto y asistía a clases de Taekwondo, y se quedó como con cinturón blanco porque no quería cambiar de rango dejó de asistir; también se unió al club de teatro en su Escuela y fue parte de la banda de percusión tradicional. Estaba interesada en el kpop por su gusto al grupo masculino de su SM Entertainment, TVXQ.

En 2011 audicionó para YG Entertainment a la edad de 11 años, con la canción ‘I Have A Lover’ de Lee Eun Mi, destacando por su vos tipo mezzosoprano y logró convertirse en aprendiz de la compañía en Julio 2011. En 2012 la compañía tenía planeado debutarla en un nuevo grupo, llamado Pink Punk, pero ya no se escucharon más noticias y el debut no se realizo.

Durante su época pre-debut apareció en los MVs ‘Spoiler’ y ‘Happen Ending’ de Epik High y ‘I’m Different’ de Hi Suhyun. Fue modelo de marcas de Samsonite y Nikon y promocionó el videojuego de la compañía Fincon, llamado Angel Stone, también apareció en el drama ‘The Producers’ en los capítulo 4, 5 y 12.

En 2016 YG Entertainment revela los primeros avances de su nuevo grupo a debutar, Jisoo fue presentada como la tercera integrante de BLACKPINK el 15 de Junio de 2016.

El 08 de Agosto de 2016, Jisoo debuta junto a Jennie, Rosé, Lisa en BLACKPINK con su primer álbum sencillo, titulado ‘‘SQUARE ONE’’. El álbum cuenta con las canciones: “BOOMBAYAH” y “Whistle”.

Jisoo junto a Rosé han sido el rostro de ‘New Balm Cushion’ para la marca de cosméticos ‘Moonshot’, modelos para la marca de cosméticos ‘Kiss Me’ y para la campaña ‘HeroineMake Long & Curl’. Jisso también ha modelado y/o sido la portada de revistas como ‘InStyle’, ‘Allure’, ‘CéCi’, ‘Harper’s Bazaar Korea’, ‘Elle Korea’, ‘Vogue Korea’, ‘Dazed Korea’, ‘Marie Claire’, entre otras.

En 2016 Jisso fue MC especial del programa musical coreano Inkigayo, y MC especial del programa M! Countdown junto a Jennie. Desde Febrero de 2017 hasta Febrero de 2018 Jisoo fue MC de Inkigayo, , junto a Jinyoung de GOT7 y Doyoung de NCT. En 2019 participó en la serie ‘Arthdal Chronicles’. En 2021 protagonizó la serie ‘Snowdrop’ como Eun Young Ro.

En 2019 Jisoo se convirtió en Embajadora local de Dior para la marca de cosméticos Dior’s Beauty; y en marzo de 2021 fue anunciada como Embajadora global de Dior en las áreas de ‘Fashion and Beauty’. En 2021 Jisoo fue la modelo principal para la colección de primavera de 2021 de la marca de ropa ‘MICHAA’, se convirtió en el rostro oficial de la marca de telefónos ‘CELEBe’.

La cantante compartió emocionada la noticia con sus seguidores, junto a una foto en la que se luce con un sweater de punto estampado y una bandolera negra.

El debut de Jisoo como actriz principal ha llegado con el estreno de Snowdrop el 18 de diciembre. It's been a busy few days, so the update's a little late. Also... I confess I've been super engrossed in playing Starfield for the last few weeks, so reading has been less of a priority as I hyperfixate. 😅

Another great collection of comics and stories! Personal favorites of mine: "Waterward by Sean & Rachel Qitsualik-Tinsley & Sadekaronhes Esquivel, "Sky People" by Richard Van Camp & Kyle Charles, and "Future World" by Jennifer Storm & Kyle Charles.

White Cat, Black Dog by Kelly Link

My library read, Kelly Link's newest short story collection. I'd already read the final couple stories in other anthologies, and very much enjoyed them. So far I've read the first two as well, and also enjoyed them. Gotta prioritize this heavily now, since it was due back yesterday and I couldn't renew the hold, oops! 💀

Lone Women by Victor LaValle

About 2/3rds through now, and it's continued to be a wild ride. A mix of horror elements and malevolent forces haunt this poor woman.

Speaking Bones by Ken Liu

Almost 1/4 through this thick tome, and kinda surprised that a certain anticipated string of events is already underway. There's still a lot of book to go!

Fresh Dirt from the Grave by Giovanna Rivero

This started as a casual read on Libby when I was having a rough time early in September, though it turned out to be more intense than I realized. It's a story collection from a Bolivian writer, and very much the dark magical realism I enjoy from the region.

October Acquisition and Plans

I wasn't feeling any of the choices from Book of the Month last month or this month, so I've only bought one new book:

Never Whistle at Night ed. by Shane Hawk & Theodore C. Van Alst Jr.

This is an anthology of horror/dark fiction by Indigenous writers, which I preordered immediately on learning about. It has entries from writers I've enjoyed before, like Morgan Talty and Darcie Little Badger. Hoping to start it this month for the spooky season!

Upcoming Releases

Out There Screaming ed. by Jordan Peele (October 3rd)

Technically already released as of this posting because I'M LATE OKAY. It's an anthology of horror by Black writers edited by renowned horror director Jordan Peele. Honestly, not sure why I didn't preorder this one, too, since I can't stop thinking about it. Includes entries from authors I've loved like Nnedi Okorafor, Chesya Burke, P. Djèlí Clark, Nalo Hopkinson, N.K. Jemisin... maybe I'll go ahead and order it after finishing this post lmao.

The Encyclopedia of the Weird and Wonderful by Milo Rossi (October 3rd)

Part of the prior lapse in preordering was just being busy and a little broke, because I meant to preorder this, too. Milo Rossi is an archaeologist also known as Miniminuteman online, posting about archaeology, anthropology, history, and geology, including taking time to debunk conspiracy theories and pseudoscience claims about any of the above. This book focuses on reveling in interesting and entertaining facts and should be a fun time with his sense of humor.

Wrath Becomes Her by Aden Polydoros (October 10th)

YA historical dark fantasy where a Lithuanian man creates a golem in his daughter's image to unleash it on the Nazis who killed her. She carries out this vengeance but also reckons with this existence bestowed upon her. I'm normally extremely wary of historical fiction from the World Wars, especially regarding the Holocaust, but... this sounds metal as heck. I'd give it a chance.

A Fire Born of Exile by Aliette de Bodard (October 12th)

Another sapphic space opera from an author I generally enjoy, based in her Xuya universe, where sentient ships and elaborate visual overlays abound. The daughter of a prominent official and a poor engineer fall in love against a backdrop of political turmoil.

And while not technically a release yet, I do want to highlight that Iron Circus Comics is poised to launch their next crowdfunding campaign for an anthology: Indiginerds: Tales from Modern Indigenous Life ed. by Alina Pete! The Mary Sue has a piece on it, and the campaign will start on BackerKit on the 16th!

On July 12, through Star News, her label revealed filming for her music video is going underway. On April 19, 2021, an official from YG Entertainment revealed to South Korean media outlet The Korea Herald that Lisa would debut as the third soloist from her group with schedules later to be officially announced through a notice. In February 2021, she returned as the dance mentor in the Chinese boy group survival show Youth With You Season 3.
