This Motor City was by far my favorite. We met so many cool people. The amount of support people gave us was impeccable, and it was nice to make so many people smile. I’m looking forward to doing more Undertale and Steven Universe cosplays later down the line!

You can’t take the sky from me...
Yes, had the great honor of meeting the amazing Summer Glau (River Tam from Firefly/Serenity). She’s soooooooooo sweet!! I love her slight Texas accent. The top picture is of me and my sister with Summer, the bottom picture is of my mom with Summer. My mom actually saw her the day after my sister and I and Summer actually remembered me! And asked how/what my sister was doing.
So sweet. Amazing human being.
Her autographs are in the middle and they respectively say: ‘For Linda & Sarah “No power in the verse can stop me. -Summer Glau” and “For Karen, Stay Shiny & Serenity Always xo -Summer Glau’

A few of my favs from Motor City Comic Con 2018 thus far. Peggy Carter’s little leg pose, squee! Sis said, “I always knew Rey & Supergirl we’re friends!” Negan had the voice down pat, “Well shit, Rick, I’m having a damn good time!” Was surreal just chatting in line with Pennywise - everything except the boots was handmade by this cosplayer, count me impressed. See you nerds tomorrow for Day 2!

Huntress Cosplay 1.0
Yup, this post is definitely late and it’s totally my fault. I apologize, guys. I had a serious bout of con crunch (I swear upon my soul, never again will I endure that, not ever again) and afterward I was totally dead for a good five days. After that, it was time to start planting my vegetable garden and some insurance issues cropped up as well.
So, this is just pretty late and I apologize for that (computer kept crashing when I tried to download my pictures, so after cursing and an email shuffle later, I finally got them) and I hope the mad progress updates to come will make up for it!
Alright, so on May 19th, 2018 at Motor City Comic Con, I marched into the halls as the only Huntress of the show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Sorry, my photographer forgot I has feet.)
So, things wrong with this: The belt. *SHUDDERS* By far. I did not have near enough time to get the belt pouches done and so I had to quickly paint what I could in order to have something I could even carry stuff around in. =/ I didn’t even have time to practice posing (which is honestly, one of the worst things to not practice before a con.)
I also didn’t have time to get the white trim done along the bottom edge of the cape, but rest assured it will be there by the time New York Comic Con is around.
Additionally, I will have to make adjustments to the strapping on the mask to make it sit comfortably through hours of wear. It started out fine, but by the end of the day, I had a raging headache. I’ll cover that in a separate post, as I will with everything.
Here is my reference photo I was basing this off of:
Tumblr media
I gotta say, I was very happy with how it turned out! (Except for the belt, dear God, that hideous thing....) and a lot of people were super excited to see Huntress! I can’t tell you how incredible it felt to be recognized as Huntress and how geeked people were to see her. All my Huntress fans out there, know this: She is not forgotten. Not by a LONG shot! They were so excited to see her at the con, to have her represented, and that honestly just put me over the moon! Seeing other people just as nerdy and fans of Huntress as I am made all the work, misery and tears getting this costume ready in time made it all so much worth it. One guy even stopped me for a picture AND a selfie with me and proudly showed off his collection of Birds of Prey Sideshow Collectible statues -- the Huntress one provides the lockscreen wallpaper for my phone.
And the thing I think I loved the most: 5 kids wanted to take pictures with me. Needless to say, Helena was grinning from ear to ear in my mind. Nothing could’ve made the day better.
Credit for things I did not make:
The mask is by TigerStoneFX
The belt buckles (which I will show in more detail in following posts) have been 3D printed and designed by my wonderful and brilliant friend, ThatWhichLurks,
Crossbow by NXT Generation Toys.
Parachute buckles and sliders are from Strapworks.com. (Seriously, this should be on every cosplayer’s bookmark list.)
Cloth from Stylishfabric.com.
Combat boots from Volatile.
Additional shoutouts to those incredibly helpful people, and more to to come as I go:
Clarke Cosplay for his incredible patience and going above and beyond helping this newbie cosplayer wrap her brain around crafting bendy 3D objects from flat materials. He not only patiently answered all my questions, he even MADE a Huntress kneepad. Needless to say, I’m still BLOWN AWAY. All I can say is wow. And thank you, so, so much. This guy really knows what he’s talking about and if anyone needs help on the basics and getting started, definitely check out his YouTube channel. And please, let’s just admire his sheer expertise and faithful documentation of his process -- it’s cosplayers like him that really keep the hobby open and welcome to newcomers.
And I would be remiss if I did not mention Rianne Royale either. It was her help that got me into sewing and she also went above and beyond in helping me out with that maddening white trim on Huntress’s cape. Not only does she love a good challenge, but she loves helping others overcome their cosplay challenges as well, and without her down-to-earth advice, I would surely still be bent over that sewing  machine!
Additional thanks (even though he’s unlikely to see) is Angelegend for his videos on Plastidip and painting. They didn’t answer all my questions about paint but his videos are by far the most newbie-friendly that I found and gave me a very good handle on where to start when it came to painting foam -- especially the Plastidip! He also showed how to make the small things like padding the inside of the kneepad and how to make the piece of armor that goes on the back of the hand -- stuff that normally gets lost in so many pro cosplayer’s eyes, the simple stuff they don’t think twice about. He also has amazing builds for Halo and Mass Effect, so if that’s your cup of tea, definitely start there!
And of course, the wonderful woman behind Rainbow Curve Corsetry, a wonderful seamstress who is the reason why that cape looks as freaking fabulous as it does. Holy. Hell. Do I owe her a LOT. She’s in that vague group often called ‘a friend of the family’ but feels like she’s just a hell of a lot more than that. (Okay, she’s the daughter-in-law of my mother’s best friend, but that’s a mouthful to say.) She taught me the most important rule of sewing from scratch: Just dive in and do it.
Now, that definitely isn’t everyone, but it’s a few, and I’ll sing praises for everyone as I go through my process posts.
And many deep and heartfelt thanks to my incredible friend and sister-from-another-mister @slayerrelick for housing my miserable butt for a full month so I could even get started on this project. Her love and patience absolutely made this possible and I’ve no doubt she’s half the reason I’m still alive and/or not in jail for murdering someone ‘cleaning up’ my crafting table. This one is for you, hunny.
Additional notes!
Far as I could find, I’m the in the minority of Huntress cosplayer’s that went the full tamale with making the armor, including the kneepads, by hand from foam. So what do you all think? Does it work? Look good? Anything need changing? Hair, makeup not what they should be? Lemme hear your feedback!

SO, I had an amazing day today meeting Christopher Sabat and Todd Haberkorn!
The day got off to a good start because there were a lot of thunderstorms in the area and the line to get in always stretches around outside, but we got there fairly early and during a non-rainy pocket, and the weather outside was actually really nice! The line moved along super fast, so after only waiting maybe 10 minutes or so we were in. I had really wanted to wear my Piccolo costume to show to Christopher Sabat, buuuut there was no way I was going to risk it in the rain and mud outside, plus it’s EXTREMELY thermal and rarely worth trying to wear it anytime other than the fall. Instead I wore my Frisk shirt from Undertale and took my Flowey plushie along.
So first thing, I went hunting for Mr. Sabat, because I didn’t know how long the wait would be and I didn’t want to put it off and potentially run out of time. As expected, not only was his booth swarmed, but they actually had overflow line racks at the empty booth next door. Luckily, I arrived when the overflow racks weren’t full, so I managed to skip a fair amount of waiting. Chatted with a few other fans intermittently, but couldn’t really focus on the conversations. Not only was I just plain excited, but I was also worried because just before I got moved to the main line racks an attendant announced to us that he had to leave for a panel soon. I was REALLY anxious about my timing then, because if I couldn’t get through before he had to go I’d probably have to wait for at least another hour.
Luckily, this didn’t end up being a problem! I made my way to the table and I paid for both an autograph and a selfie, since if you got them together you saved $20 and I happened to have an extra 20 in my pocket. When it was finally my turn, I put the box of cookies on the table and slid them forward, and said a little quietly, “These are for you.” I was really nervous because I know there are nutjobs out there that put needles or poisons into foods they give celebrities, so I wasn’t sure if he’d take them or not.
More than anything, though, he looked kind of amazed by them and went, “Are these DRAGON BALL cookies?!” I told him that every time I meet a DBZ actor, I bring them a snack (to which I believe the girl behind me in line went, “That’s so sweet!”). He thanked me and he said, “And luckily, you look like the sort of person who I CAN take food from!”
At that point I opened my card holder and dumped them out on the table. I’d had two in there because I’d been having trouble deciding if I was going to spring for more than one autograph, but I’d only paid for one, so I slid the black-hair card forward. Sabat’s eyes got wide and he picked it up and said, “I haven’t seen one of these in YEARS!” and I told him I’d been saving that card since I was a teenager, just in case I ever got the chance to meet him. He seemed really impressed that I’d been saving it for so long and said he used to see it all the time, but that it’d been a very long time. For some reason at this point (I guess because I’d mentioned high school?) I also said in passing that when I was in high school I was so into DBZ that people stopped being friends with me over it, and without a second of hesitation he said, “Yeah, and they’re all regretting it now!” X3 I thought that was nice of him.
So he signs the card, and as I’m about to put them both back in the case, he takes the other one (the SSJ card) and says, “I’ve never even seen this one before!” and I told him I’d had that one for years, too. I didn’t even ask him to, but he suddenly signed that one as well, and I couldn’t believe it! I don’t remember if I said anything else, but I remember just telling him over and over, “Thank you so much!”
Then all of a sudden, maybe because of the cookies or because of how long I’d been saving up my swag or what, he stepped away from our end of the table and went over to the payment end, grabbed a print of SSJ blue Vegeta, and brought it over and started writing on that one too! As he’s writing it I remember him saying “Thanks, woman!” out loud, but oddly enough I actually can’t remember if he said it in-character or not. I think my brain was overloading because he gave me ANOTHER autograph, and this time on a print that I clearly hadn’t paid for. I was just so, so overwhelmed -- so much so that I had almost forgotten that I paid for a picture as well. I just kept saying thank you, thank you over and over.
As some point I had taken out my phone and set it on the table (I think to remind myself that I had in fact gotten the combo deal), and Sabat took it and whipped up the camera. I was about to stand next to him, but realized Flowey was still on my shoulder (as that’s how I carry him during a con) and I paused to set it on the table, saying, “Oh, let me get Flowey out of the way.” As soon as I put it down, Sabat goes, “No, he’s in the picture too,” and picked it back up. I was so amused that I think I was laughing rather than just smiling in the picture, and my mind got blown AGAIN because he actually snapped two pictures instead of one. He did one where we could see our faces, then took another with us hiding behind Flowey (aka the one posted here). By the time it was all done and I’d collected all my shit and stepped away, my brain was so blitzed that I had to take a second to even process what had happened!
I decided to go wander around the con for a while at that point so I could cool down after that encounter, and I went and got in line for Todd Haberkorn about an hour later. His line wasn’t nearly as busy and I was able to jump in at around the halfway point of the line racks, but ironically when I was almost to the front (like literally 4 people away) he got pulled away for a photo session and we had to wait for like 45 minutes. Happily though I was surrounded by nice people and the volunteer running his booth was a fun guy that did his best to keep a group conversation going so we wouldn’t get bored and tired from the wait.
Finally Haberkorn comes back, and after just a couple minutes it’s my turn. As I’d done earlier I slid him a box of cookies and told him, “These are for you,” and explained my ritual of bringing snacks to the DBZ actors, adding that at this point I’ve fed Team Four Star many, many times. He looked way more excited about them than I expected, then kind of glanced from side to side and said, “...I’m gonna have one bite right now.” He took out one cookie (I think the 2-star) and very slowly took a bite, and then moaned that it was SO GOOD! The guy behind me in line laughed and said he could smell the cookies from where he was standing. They were the orangesicle cookies I’d made for TFS in the past, so I wasn’t surprised. Haberkorn kept saying over and over that they were so good, and I told him thank you, to which he said, “No, thank YOU!” He then took out his phone and held the cookie box up next to my face, so I assume he was taking a picture. I keep wondering if I’m going to show up on his Twitter or Facebook accounts because of this, so if I do, I hope I’m not grinning too much like an idiot and that my hair is fine!
Once he seemed to be ready to put the cookies away, I took out my Jaco card and slid it forward, and he looked confused at the sight of it. He picked it up and mentioned he’d never seen it before and asked where I’d found it. I told him I’d hunted it down on eBay a while ago, specifically for this purpose. He seemed pleased to hear that, and when he put it down to sign it, well, you can see what he wrote about the cookies. X3 I laughed and thanked him again, and yet again he thanked me as well.
The only sad part of the day is that Sean Schemmel didn’t make it, as he apparently got sick just before the convention. I did hear that he’s already booked to come again next year, so, I guess I’ll be making another batch of cookies (or some other treat) this time in 2019!

Margot Kidder was scheduled to come this past weekend, but unfortunately, she had passed away on 5/13/18. :’( They still had a memorial table up for her and you could donate to her charity of choice which, I, my sister, and mom all did. We also wrote on a poster that was being sent to her family to show all the love and condolences from fans.
The 40th Anniversary poster on the bottom was one of the things you could get for donating, as well as some photos (the ones we all chose, you can see have the charity sticker on them). There were a couple of photos of Margot on the table as well as some flowers. The rock/spaceship looking thing is the actual prop from Superman IV: The Quest for Peace when Clark is out in the barn and finds the crystal. Very cool. It was just so sweet... I’m so grateful that I had the honor to meet Margot Kidder in 2013 when she was here for the 2013 Motor City Comic Con. Such an amazing lady. <3

Now that Arrow has concluded an incredible eight-season run, I couldn’t help reflecting on more than what happened on the show itself during that timespan. It wasn’t just enough to reminisce on what happened to the Emerald Archer on the small screen, but also to look back on what transpired in my own life over that period.
The more I got to thinking, this game-changing TV series was running parallel to my career as a writer. Although Arrow got things started by premiering in October 2012, I wasn’t lagging too far behind when I began as a volunteer contributor at Comic Book Movie in July 2013. As the show grew, I did likewise as a person and a writer – and there was more than a little overlap.
From this point on, I’ll sum up the finer points of my journey so that you can see the affect an inspiring work of fiction such as Arrow can have on a real person. I hope you all enjoy this piece, and you’re more than welcome to share your own stories in the comments section. Our own Damian Fasciani recently wrote a retrospective of his own, so click here if you would like to check out that as well.
My Name Is Oliver Queen, I Mean, Eric Joseph
Like I said, my time as a writer pretty much ran parallel to Arrow as it grew from a standalone superhero show/crime drama into something that birthed an entire universe of comic book adaptations on television. I didn’t stick around at the aforementioned CBM for too long, later making my way to Dark Knight News (2014-17) and We Got This Covered (2015-19).
Along the way, I had the chance to meet various cast members at different points during the series’ lifespan, thereby lending multiple perspectives on the tale as it grew. Some of them them I merely met at conventions, while others I actually got to interview.
Motor City Comic Con (you’re going to see that one referenced a lot) was often the means I had of making this all possible. In 2014 alone, I was able to shake hands with Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance), John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) and Robert Knepper (Clock King). Cool as that was, it prepared me for the interview opportunity I’d get with Michael Rowe (Deadshot) in 2015.
2016 was a mixed bag, as I met – but didn’t interview – Katrina Law (Nyssa al Ghul), though I did get to speak with Echo Kellum (Mister Terrific) over the phone. I won’t forget either of those experiences, but I’m holding out hope that Kellum will roll through Detroit as some point so that I may actually meet him face-to-face.
If you’re keeping track, these encounters went down near the conclusions of seasons 2, 3 and 4, respectively, with the Echo Kellum phoner happening right before the “Invasion!” crossover. Dedicated fans of Arrow shouldn’t have to strain themselves remembering what each of these characters were going through at those times, and what it must’ve been like to hear, say, Katie Cassidy tease the inevitable Black Canary reveal, or how Kellum’s Curtis Holt may deal with Dominators.

Cosplay
It’s at this time I’ll discuss the cosplay element. This is a field to which I’m certainly no stranger, and I always wanted to own an awesome-looking superhero costume. Seeing as how Batman is my favorite character, he’d be a no-brainer, right?
Well, if you’ve looked around at gear online, then you know how Batman costumes that don’t look like crap are quite expensive. This was key in my motivation for instead laying down money on a replica of the Green Arrow suit worn by Stephen Amell in seasons 5-7. For an affordable price, I felt every bit as badass as my onscreen hero, and the compliments from fellow convention attendees never cease whenever I choose to suit up. Heck, I’ve even worn that thing to a cosplay beach party!
Although I wouldn’t mind taking a crack at the Dark Knight at some point, there’s something inherently altruistic I’ve noticed about guys cosplaying as Batman that I don’t think I share. But Oliver Queen (at least The CW’s version) is flawed. He’s made mistakes unlike those of Bruce Wayne’s. He’s done stuff he’s not particularly proud of – but he never stops trying to better himself. That, I found relatable, and it occurs to me when I flip up that hood.
All that said, you couldn’t believe how elated I was when Stephen Amell himself shared a DC group cosplay photo taken at Youmacon 2017 (above) on his Facebook page for one of his “Fan Art Fridays.” Yes, I was the one who submitted it, but to see the man himself deeming myself and the accompanying DC enthusiasts worthy of sharing with his fanbase at large was truly touching.
Which brings me to…

The Main Event
If I have to single out my favorite event ever attended, that honor will probably go to Motor City Comic Con 2018. Should you have been there as well, then you’ll recall how that particular show was an embarrassment of riches when it came to booking actors from superhero shows – and where I finally met Stephen Amell himself.
Hey, he may have not been doing interviews for that weekend, but getting a photo with him and attending his panel meant the world to me. Despite him being only a few years older in age, that doesn’t mean I can’t look to him as a positive example.  I mean, the guy is known for having an incredible connection with his fans, doing charity work, and has even appeared on American Ninja Warrior.
Speaking of which, a lot of praise could be thrown Kirk Acevedo’s way as well. The man responsible for bringing the inhumane Ricardo Diaz to life is actually an awesome person himself. I actually did get to interview him during that weekend, as we discussed what was next for “The Dragon” in season 6.
Before I move on, I’d like to give an honorable mention to one Cress Williams. Black Lightning may have not been part of the Arrowverse at the time, but it sure is now. I likewise interviewed him on behalf of WGTC, as he was just cooling off after a spectacular debut season.
Fadeout
If there’s any impression I’d like this article to leave on you, the reader, it’s that you shouldn’t let anyone tell you it’s silly to say a TV show can impact you. Arrow, The Flash, Black Lightning and countless others can be a driving force in inspiring ourselves to become better people. To Stephen Amell, his co-stars and crew, I thank you all for eight years of phenomenal storytelling – and I hope to once again meet the people mentioned above.
You helped me become someone else…something else.
Reflecting On A Personal Journey Through Arrow's World Now that Arrow has concluded an incredible eight-season run, I couldn't help reflecting on more than what happened on the show itself during that timespan.

Entrevista exclusiva con Arc System Works
Tumblr media
A. No te preocupes.
A. Muchas gracias.

A. Aprecio tu entusiasmo.
Lamentablemente, no puedo garantizar cuándo sucederá.
