i like it when mu qing drops his cool cold god persona and does something only a child who grew up in slums can do, like getting so pissed off when a woman at a local market tries to scam him he actually shows all his hidden xianle style arsenal of curses.

feng xin cusses all the time but in comparison to mu qing he's a toddler repeating fuck, while the latest is a poet, a true master of berating

Xie Lian who remembers Mu Qing as polite, sweet, and mild mannered.

He remembers careful hands braiding his hair before sleeping, soft singing when he couldn't.

He remembers bright laughs that felt like gifts only for him and mean spirited giggles directed at Feng Xing.

He remembers powerful strokes and beautiful footwork. He remembers a companion in cultivation and the closer equal to him in martial arts.

He remembers beauty marred by sorrow and pain.

That's not what he finds after his third ascension. No, this Mu Qing may as well be a stranger for all Xie Lian knows.

General Xuan Zhen was beautiful like a snow storm. Cold, dangerous, uncaring and cruel in his indifference.

Fu Yao is almost the opposite.

He's bright, inquisitive, outspoken and sarcastic. It was as if the memories of his happiest days in the Heavens had been brought to life.

Xie Lian likes Fu Yao very much.

He likes Mu Qing just as much.

Sometimes it's easy to pretend they never parted in the first place. Sometimes it is easy to acknowledge that having Sang Lang along is even better, no matter the arguments and barbed words.

After finding out the truth about Jun Wu, Xie Lian wasn't able to recognize his friends.

It was as if something had shifted; something dark and primal. Something that was familiar in the way awful memories tended to be.

Seeing Feng Xing threaten Mu Qing's life had been horrifying— The fact that had only been on his command that he let go made everything worse.

But nothing as bad as seeing Jun Wu kill Mu Qing.

Hearing his neck break and watching as the light in his eyes went out, trapped in Sang Lang's arms –that for the first time felt like a prison instead of sanctuary– as his Ghost King prepared to break his chains so they could defeat the beast once and for all.

Guoshi asks for mercy.

Xie Lian's mercy had died along Mu Qing. They kill Bai Wuxiang, ensuring his evil will not touch anything Xie Lian holds dear again.

Feng Xing and him give Mu Qing XianLe funerary rights.

Feng Xing announces General Xuan Zhen's demise to his and Mu Qing's deputies. His eyes are dead as he speaks of promises in case one of them fell; hidden vows to take care for the south and the other's deputies.

Feng Xing calls Mu Qing his Zhiji.

And Xie Lian breaks into sobs, heartbroken and festering with guilt.
