Mysuru Dasara is the Nadahabba means state festival of Karnataka.It is believed that Devi Chamundeswari killed demon Mahishasur here in this place on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashami and the place was named as Mahishapura. From Mahisapura it is now called Mysuru or Mysore Mysore city is located at the foot of Chamundeswari hills.

Dasara festival was started by the king of Vijaynagar in about 14th century. The 412th Dussehra has been organized from September 26, 2022 to 5th October,2022.

On Vijayadashami, the last day of Dasara, the festival is marked by processions with decorated elephants known as Jamboo Savari. The main attraction of this procession is the idol of the Goddess Chamundeshwari which is placed on a golden mantapa on the top of a decorated elephant.

Another attraction to the festival is that the Mysore Palace and Mysore city is lighten up with thousands of light. The festivity is grand and it is a experience of lifetime .

President Murmu to visit Karnataka today

Sep 26, 2022 05:15 IST Bengaluru (Karnataka) , September 26 (Always First): President Droupadi Murmu will be on a two-day visit to Karnataka from Monday to attend a host of programmes. This will be her first visit to any state as the President of India. According to a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, on September 26, the President will inaugurate the Mysuru Dasara Festival at Chamundi Hills, Mysuru. On the same day, she will attend the felicitation function 'Poura Sanmana' organized by the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation at Hubali. She will also inaugurate the new campus of the Indian Institute of Information Technology Dharwad at Dharwad. The president will inaugurate an Integrated Cryogenic Engines Manufacturing Facility of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Bengaluru on Tuesday. During her visit to the state, President Murmu will also lay the foundation stone for the Zonal Institute of Virology (South Zone) virtually. She will further grace the inaugural function of St. Joseph's University on the same day and later attend a civic reception hosted by the Government of Karnataka in her honour in Bengaluru.
