Beyoncé’s Christmas Day NFL halftime performance, streamed on Netflix, garnered over 27 million viewers, surpassing the average viewership of the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards. Despite the success of her country album Cowboy Carter, which topped charts, Beyoncé received no CMA nominations in 2024. This sparked widespread criticism about the industry’s potential bias, especially as her Netflix performance achieved significantly higher viewership than the awards show itself. Critics have highlighted the challenges Black artists face in receiving recognition within the country music genre.

The Racial Divisions in America Are Out of Control
The Beyoncé halftime Christmas show has exposed just how sick America is, with racial divisions spiraling further out of control. The backlash to the performance shows a deep rift between the races that, if left unchecked, could lead to blood on the streets within a year. The show itself was pure Beyoncé, unapologetically political, as she made it clear that being snubbed at the Country Music Awards didn’t matter to her or her people. Instead, she reclaimed ownership of country music—a genre that African slaves and their descendants created and popularized in America with the introduction of the banjo.
Over time, country music, along with blues, rock and roll, and now even hip-hop, was taken over by the white population, who instilled the false narrative that these genres were European inventions. Beyoncé’s message was deliberate and powerful: dressed in white, riding a white horse, with all-Black dancers executing impossible moves, she sent a clear statement to the white community. On Christmas Day, when the world was watching, she showed that neither she nor her people could be silenced.
The response has been staggering. Social media is filled with negative comments, primarily from white Americans, attacking the performance and attempting to tie it to unrelated legal issues surrounding Jay-Z. These attacks ignore the fact that Beyoncé’s professional career stands on its own, as she continues to work and provide for her family. Meanwhile, when Taylor Swift is celebrated endlessly by the media and white America, there’s none of the vitriol aimed at Beyoncé. Swift, who can neither dance nor sing at Beyoncé’s level, is glorified without critique.
This double standard is nothing new. I was around when Elvis Presley was alive, and even then, I saw how the so-called “King of Rock and Roll” was falsely credited for a genre invented by Black pioneers like Chuck Berry and Little Richard. Elvis, who lived with a 14-year-old Priscilla Presley, faced no public condemnation, just as politicians like Matt Gaetz, accused of serious crimes, remain free and even offered positions of power.
The hypocrisy is undeniable. White America’s nastiness toward Beyoncé is a reflection of how bad things have gotten. If the African-American community doesn’t organize and stand firm, they risk being dragged back into the days of Jim Crow. America is on the brink, and this unchecked racial tension will only escalate if these deep-seated issues are ignored.

Best part of the halftime show. #eminem asked the league if he could take a knee and they said, no. He used his privilege and did it anyways and I’m here for it. #nfl #nflhalftimeshow #superbowl #superbowl2022 #superbowlhalftimeshow #blacklivesmatter #blm #blackhistorymonth #goodtrouble (at Atlanta, Georgia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZ8KyvNuoMk/?utm_medium=tumblr
