When Regulus wakes up, the smell of pancakes hits his nose almost instantly. He has barely gotten any sleep, but either way, he has to get up. So, he swings his legs over the edge of the bed and stands up, walking down the stairs.

"Good morning, sweet boy." James walks over and kisses his forehead, smearing a little bit of flour on Regulus' cheek, he wipes it off with a scowl.

"Morning." He sits at the island counter and puts his head on his arms with a light groan.

"Grumpy boy this morning, m'love?" James asks, continuing to flip the pancakes.

"Always grumpy." A small voice babbles beside him. Regulus looks over and strokes the child's head.

"G'morning to you too, Haz." Regulus quickly leans over and kisses Harry's head.

"Good morning, papa." Harry giggles and continues to color in his coloring book. Regulus smiles at his little boy and takes in his surroundings. The whole room was light, he was sitting next to his son who just turned 6 a few months ago, and he watches as his husband of nearly 5 years as he dances around the kitchen, humming a silly tune he probably learned on the muggle radio. Life is good for Regulus, he knows that.

James places two plates in front of him, one for him and one for Harry. Regulus hands Harry his plate, and helps him pour his syrup. James sits next to him and places a kiss to his forehead.

"Sweetheart, are you feeling warm?" James touches the back of his hand to Regulus' forehead. Regulus shakes his head and takes another bite. "You are feeling quite warm." James places the palms of his hands on Regulus' cheeks.

"Let me feel!" Regulus glares at James as Harry's hands slap to his cheeks, the light sound echoing through the room. James holds a hand over his mouth, trying not to laugh. "Oh, yeah, papa. You are warm!" Harry forces Regulus to look at him and squeezes his father's cheeks.

"Alright, Haz," James stands up from his place in the kitchen and picks Harry up once Harry is done eating. "If papa really is sick we don't want you to catch anything, so go on and put your shoes on." He places Harry gently onto the floor, Harry wraps his chubby arms around Regulus' calf's before running off to the front door.

"I'm going to work." Regulus states.

"You aren't."

"I am, James."

"Do you wanna get all those little kids sick?" Regulus glares at James, he had gotten into teaching not to long ago, now he teaches Harry's kindergarten class. "Hm?"

"Obviously not, Potter." James raises his eyebrows with a grin.

"Head off to bed, will you? I'll come in after I drop off Harry and cuddle you. Sound good, Potter?"

"Whatever." Regulus ignores the blush that spread on his cheeks, he gets up from his place at the table and sits next to Harry, helping him lace up his new lighting mcqueen sneakers that nana Effie bought him. "Papa isn't gonna be at work today, is that okay with you, babe?" Regulus tucks one of his little boys curls out of his face, Harry makes a pouty face. "I know, sweetheart, blame daddy." Harry's face up turns quickly. "I'll see you later, okay?" Harry nods his little head.

"I love you, papa." Harry puckers his little lips and kisses both his father's cheeks, grinning wildly as James rounds the corner.

"I love you too, baby." Regulus smiles back at him.

"Off to school!" James lifts Harry in the air, spinning him.

dark and edgy and cool all over !

and ofc kaori had a hand in it !

the y2k inspiration was still there bc what would kaori be without it, but it was clearly a lot darker to fit the theme of the album

there was a lot of leather, latex, and lace used this era ! a lot of corset tops and matching sets too,, like kaori was truly going for her that early 2000s pop / rock girl feel with this one

there were some early 2010s futurism thrown in the styling, as well ! lots of angular shoulder pads jshdjdk

the use of designer labels was definitely kicked up a notch, too ! kaori was in alexander mcqueen, versace, givenchy, miss sixty, archive tom ford,, like they truly went all out !

not too many bright colors during this era, either,, mainly red, black, purple, white, and occasionally shades of blue were used

her highlights were surprisingly not that bright this era ! she had blonde ones at the start, and we got the return of her purple highlights from the vmas,, her hair also had blue tips at the end of the year, which was cool !

and, yes, it caused another trend sjwijsjs like girl it was ALL over japanese social media,, gyarus were eating it UP

like it started a challenge too ! we love an influencer !

although the styling was darker, there were still a lot of elements present that we saw during the self title era ! rhinestones, fake tattoos, star motifs, body glitter, piercings, dyed eyebrows, rhinestones on her eyebrows, fingerless gloves,,

kaori even got a lip piercing, which caused (another) lil trend !

the piercing was fake though, so 😭

her makeup was very kesha inspired during this era, as well ! lots of glitter and rhinestones on her eyes, as well as sort of “smudged” eyeshadow, huge brightly colored and glittery stars / lightning bolts drawn around her eyes, and dark, smoky, almost messy eyeliner

her nails were so cute, too ! they had rhinestones and animal print and all these metallic elements,, and they were also very sharp swjsiwije

also ! kaori’s style finally got a name ! the media started dubbing it “kao-kei,” and the term eventually made its way to gyaru forums where gals who recreated kaori’s fashion were dubbed “kaogyaru” or “kao-gals !”

and a lot of gyarus LOVED the style bc a. it reminded them of namie, b. it was a lil nostalgic since it resembled ganguro and old school kogyaru, c. it was a combo of a bunch of different styles, and d. it kind of brought back tanning a bit, which was going out of style by the 2010s !

btw, kaori also developed a bit of an obsession with mainframe sunglasses during this era ! like she was wearing them in at least 3 of her mvs MSNKDJ

all in all, the styling for this era was phenomenal and everyone loved it MSNKSJ

— ERA HIGHLIGHTS !

oh god SO much happened this era

like when i tell you kaori was everywhere I MEAN IT !

this album truly made her pop star level like,, her debut showed that she had potential but this really reinforced it !

she was quite literally the most searched singer in japan ALONE, and she placed pretty damn high in the states,, like she was truly a big deal !

the lead single was HUGE ! it sold over 100,000 (!!!) units within its first week and debuted at no. 69 on the billboard hot 100, becoming kaori’s second consecutive entry on the chart ! here’s the thing, though, “black night” actually became her first ever no. 1 hit !

it debuted at no. 1 on the oricon charts, and girl kaori was floored once she found out msnkwkdk

it stayed there for a full month, too !

the promo during this era was crazy !

kaori had TWO full tv specials on both music station and gma, and everyone loved them ! she was greeting fans, and the specials were quite literally a taste of what the tour would be SMKJD like the energy, choreography, and stage presence were off the charts

and you could tell that kaori had been working on her vocals ! like that voice was CLEAR !

she even performed at the warped tour sjsmkejdj and her set was super fun bc there were a lot of her fans there (her aussie fans were so blessed like kaori already went there during her tour smjejdj) ! and the crowd favorite was def “black night” at both her gma special and her warped tour set,, like that song took OVER radio stations

and oh my god kaori finally got a vogue cover ! the concept was SO COOL like it was inspired by female rock icons such as joan jett and debbie harry, as well as by ayumi hamasaki and koda kumi !

she had a bunch of collabs this era, too !

i won’t spoil them here bc they truly deserve their own post, but all of them were so so good, believe me SMKSKDJ

another interesting thing was kaori’s endorsements this era jsiwks she became the face of shiseido due to them sponsoring her tour, but she also became the face of pepsi of all companies ! her campaigns were so britney inspired, and she had a commercial in japan that was quite literally EVERYWHERE

and they put her face on the cans ! (only in japan though </3)

she also became the face of luminous change, and she was all over shibuya billboards, on posters outside of 109, and on the packaging BSNSKM

kaori also had promo for something else, but that will be revealed in due time !

and and and ! she ALSO had a capsule collection with the gyaru brand jsg ! like the pieces were inspired off of kaori’s personal style, and damn did it sell skhdjdjdk like gals were truly all over it

her promos were mainly focused on the states, but she still had time to promote in korea ! like she was actually a guest mc for m countdown this time (for like. 3 days 😭), and she appeared on weekly idol with 15& ! and ofc kaori KILLED it like we all know she’s hilarious

her tour began in august, and my god the amount of celebs that came SKIWSJS

allume came ! like kaori’s bestest industry friends wbk ! minzy and cl came, as well as western celebs such as taylor swift and kesha !

the tour was so fun and so theatrical,, like it was probably kaori’s most acclaimed tour to date (and her longest girl whew MSNSJKD),, there was also added dates in china and some areas in japan bc demand was HIGH !

and oh my god “black night” was used as the first opening for tokyo ghoul ??? and “talkin’ 2 myself” was literally used as one of the endings of death note,, of all animes !

like girl kaori was ECSTATIC ! she was literally that huge !

but y’all know what the coolest thing was ??? when “talkin’ 2 myself” was released as a special single, the music video was animated !

like literally in the style of death note too,, they made kaori into a death note character SMSJS

she had a lil interview in mexico, and she had a set at lollapalooza chile,, she was also on the covers of quite a lot of magazines ! vivi, woofin’ girl, nylon, l’officiel, marie claire,, like you could literally not escape her during this era sjiwjdndn

all in all, very eventful era ! like sweet 18 truly made her a superstar (at only 18, by the way), and she literally became thee teen idol back then ! she was dominating charts, everyone loved her,, it was just great ♡

Black History Month Book Recs

To celebrate Black History Month, I thought I'd share a few recommendations of books I've read recently by black authors. All of the books below feature incredible black characters in a wide variety of genres.

Parable of the Sower & Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler (Dystopia): One of my favorite duologies. This is a haunting post-apocalyptic series about a young girl's plans and dreams after Climate Change has caused a societal collapse. Both books are incredible and feel upsettingly prescient at times!

Faebound by Saara El-Arifi (Romantasy): A recent read that I really enjoyed. This is perfect for fans of books like Fourth Wing who wish the genre was more diverse. Not only is this written by a black author, but it also includes queer characters and romances, and the world is Arab-inspired.

When the Reckoning Comes by LaTanya McQueen (Horror): One of my favorite horror novels ever. There are some truly terrifying moments in this as it explores some of the real horrors of American history.

Chan-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah (Dystopia): an incredible and thought-provoking speculative novel. This was one of my favorite new novels of 2023. It follows several characters set in a future where a fully privatized prison system has inmates take part in televised battles to the death.

Artie and the Wolf Moon by Olivia Stephens (Graphic Novel): This is a really sweet middle-grade graphic novel about a pack of werewolves. There's some great family dynamics and a cute queer relationship too. The art is beautiful, as well.

Future Reads

I also have several books by black authors on my TBR that I can't wait to get to. Here are a few that I am most excited about:

A Love Song For Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams (Romance): This was one of my picks from Aardvark Book Club this month and I'm really excited to read it.

Kindred by Octavia E. Butler (Historical): This is one that I really want to read soon. I'd love to eventually read all of Octavia E. Butler's works.

The Reformatory by Tananarive Due (Horror): I've seen so many good reviews of this. I got it from Aardvark Book Club a few months ago and look forward to finally reading it.

Legendborn by Tracy Deonn (Fantasy): I have heard such good things about this series. Book three is scheduled for release in early 2025, so I'd love to read the first two before it is released.

I'm also planning to finally read novels by both Kacen Callender and S. A. Cosby this year. I've had several of their books recommended to me and really look forward to finally diving into their books. Stars in Your Eyes by Kacen Callender is on my February TBR, so I'll be reading it very soon!

ᔑɩᥒɠꙆᥱ oɾ Ʈᥲƙᥱᥒ: Single. Though I believe that if Wayne McQueen were to have ended up staying in Christmasland an odd sort of dance/fine line of friends to closer than friends could happen. 

ᗣᑲɩꙆɩtɩᥱ⳽ ᥲᥒᑯ ᕈoωᥱɾ⳽: I believe that it is canon in the tv show and acknowledged that Millie helped Charlie create Christmasland so she could very well be a Fledgling Creative as it were. Though I highly doubt that she could reach her full  potential by remaining in Christmasland.

ᖴᥲʋoᥙɾɩtᥱ ᕈꙆᥲᥴᥱ to ᔑρᥱᥒᑯ Ʈɩຕᥱ ᗣt: The Ice Maze and the SleighCoaster. Both are attractions at Christmasland but both are places that Millie likes to spend time at. In the Ice Maze, she can wander around as she knows all the turns and dead ends that are there. And the SleighCoaster has the perfect view of Christmasland from the highest peak of the ride. 

Ʈᖾᥱɩɾ Ʈყρᥱ: Pretty Certain that Millie having zero dating experience from being in Christmasland would have no idea what her type would even be. However, Wayne McQueen could be an exception. 

ᙅᥲຕρɩᥒɠ Ꙇᥒᑯooɾ⳽ oɾ Oᥙtᑯooɾ⳽: Outdoors for sure! I headcanon that camping outdoors was something that Charlie and Millie would do from time to time pre-Christmasland

Dooley pushed Kevin in the stroller, the mall extra busy due to the weekend sales. Kevin uses his rattle happily as he's brought through entrance. "Oh boy. we'll be fighting little old ladies for deals. They're gonna kick our ass McQueen." He checked the map looking for the food court.

McQueen is resolute that he is going to invest in a Polaroid camera. He has family moments now that must be caught on camera. he'll get a neck strap for it so he can't toss it like he does with so many things. He'll save them in the same pocket he keeps the love letters in little waterproof baggies. Yes. This is what he'll do.

The crowding wasn't ideal, but they'll muscle through, "I haven't met an old lady that I couldn't take down for a bargain," McQueen replies, already feeling hangry and wanting to snap at the next person who bumped into him. Instead, he runs his hand down his face and takes some calming breaths, "well, Nana Dooley could kick my ass, but we tend to be on the same team." A true bargain power duo. He follows Dooley, hoping he knows how to get to the food court from here.

Today at work I got selected to do housekeeping which basically meant walking around the entire warehouse pushing a broom around and pretending to clean. I don’t even clean my own fucking room so why they think I’d put my all into cleaning theirs is beyond me. There is an actual cleaning team at this warehouse so why the fuck aren't they doing this shit work? A group of people who think nothing of cleaning shit out of a toilet (or in some extreme cases: on the floor next to the toiler or dripping down the walls next to the toilet) then they're hardly likely to be adverse to sweeping up some litter are they. If the cleaning crew are adamant that they are only contracted to clean up shit then I'm going to have to convince the other warehouse workers to start smearing shit all over the warehouse floor during the work day so that it becomes the job of the cleaning staff to get it cleaned up.

I can’t wait for my tattoo paying homage to Richie and Eddie from Bottom. It’s eleven days away and those days are going to drag. I never thought that I'd be feeling impatient to get a needle stuck in my arm for a couple of hours but my love for Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson is such that I am now counting down the hours until the moment of truth. The only thing I'm not fully decided on is where to get it done. My main choice is to have it on the left bicep but then I might end up finding out that there is no longer space for the other designs I want doing. So I could get it on the right upper arm underneath the hideous black star that I'm getting removed to make way for the Jim Morrison portrait. When I go for the tattoo I'll just ask the lass tattooing me where she thinks would suit the tattoo best. Although there is the possibility that she might think that Bottom is fucking stupid and advise me not to get it done at all.

I tuned into last nights Hollyoaks which featured Suzanne showing up to take her kids back home despite Darren's protests as he wants to reconnet with them. I put out the following hypothetical scene on Twitter:

Darren: You can’t take those kids away! I love them, I always have. What was my first reaction when you told me you were pregnant? Suzanne: Um you dropped to your knees and screamed “NOOO!!! WHY?!! DAMN YOU GOD!!” Darren:…what was my second reaction? Elsewhere the McQueen family went to visit Nana in the hospital who is still recovering from her stroke. Before they left Nana told John Paul to give Myra and Mercedes a kiss from her and I posted the following perfect response for him

John Paul: I’ll give Myra a kiss from you but you’ve got no chance with Mercedes. I’ll give her a handshake and then give my hand a good wash, that’s the best I can do
