The duality of my two most recent royal/peasant OTPs.
I mean, how a similar concept can be executed so differently based on the environment the show created.
Elena of Avalor is more on the "wholesome" side, so some of the biggest bumps in the road are Naomi's insecurites as "just a girl from the port". But with Elena being THE ruler of her kingdom (after her parents got PG murdered), she had full control over putting Naomi on the grand council and showing her how she's capable of more and worthy of being by her side (as chancelor once Elena officially becomes queen).
Comparing that to Stolas and Blitz... Boy, where do I even begin. Despite Stolas being high in the hierarchy, there are still SO MANY others above him, so he doesn't nearly have the amount of control as Blitz thinks he has. And despite Stolas trying so hard to show he cares, Blitz's insecurties are self destructive, so aren't as easily fixed by someone just believing in you.
But yeah, if these two shows and the OTPs I got out of it aren't prime examples of how my taste in fiction is so different yet the same, I dunno what will.
Can we talk about how Naomi sings a whole song about wanting to be “someone special” and then in Norberg Peace Prize, Princess Chloe tells Gabe that he should share the Norberg Lights with “someone special” and he shares them with Naomi?!
Yes, I realize that "Something Special" is Naomi's "I want" song and about how she wants to prove herself (setting up her great character arc), so she didn't mean it like that, but…it’s the exact same wording.
She is “someone special” to him. I’m gonna cry 😭😭💖💖
