Image: Heracles and the Nymphs of Himera painting by Rupert Bunny, Australian, 1913 or 1916, held by National Gallery of Australia.
Note: An obscure myth but so refreshing with Heracles being restored during or after his labours.

I went to the Jeffrey Smart Exhibition yesterday - 1/5/22. It was celebrating his 100 year anniversary of birth and the first time I saw a particularly large collection of his works together - enough that you could see the progression in stylistic technique.
It was cool to see the oil barrels in person when I've often seen the print at my parents' home, hanging next to the TV.
It was also cool to learn a little more about his friendship with David Malouf - a writer I studied at uni and dear friend who curated a small exhibition of Smart's works at USyd shortly after his death. Also his friendship with Germaine Greer. Both Greer and Malouf have portraits in Smart's collection.
But while I was wandering around, I couldn't help but think how utterly absurd it was that I was there paying to see those artworks, painted by a man who is dead and knows not of what the world thinks of his art now, while there are people in this world who are struggling to put food on their table, or getting bombed, or simply living without the privileges we have.
Absolutely absurd.
