Malachi and Tommy (name can be changed) were best friends since childhood. So, when Mal enlisted, Tommy followed even though he was leaving a young wife at home. That is until Tommy was killed by an IED. Mal, in keeping with his promise, has come to Moorbrooke to deliver the news and to help take care of Tommy’s pregnant wife. Cue sadness and angst but also deep friendships and sweet moments.

Week 9: Gender Explosion

Nico Tortorella - Nonbinary TV Personality

Nico Tortorella is a young model, actor, writer, and activist who identifies as nonbinary and prefers they/them pronouns. Growing up, Nico identified as a cisgender male and continued to do so throughout their years of budding stardom. However, as they explain in their autobiography, poetry, and podcasts, they eventually realized there was something off about their perceived identity and decided to further explore the boundaries of gender expression until they finally realized they were not male, nor female.

Aside from being unsettlingly attractive, Nico is a hugely positive force within the queer community. In their acting jobs, they do mostly male masculine characters, portraying the straight fuckboy to a tee very often and doubtlessly gaining the respect and possible adoration of the straight cis community. Once they reached his platform through these jobs however, they have used their voice to spread a vision of gender non fixity to viewers, readers, and friends everywhere and invite them to explore the boundaries of their own gender, often positing that it may not be as headset as one may think.

i need to rant for a sec about nico tortorella. i started listening to his podcast and i love the interviews but i hate when he tries to be all artsy and shit because it’s annoying. but i guess i’m realizing my problem isn’t specifically about nico tortorella but the fucking media. nico tortorella has been out for like a year maybe as bisexual and has a podcast interviewing queer artists and is on the cover of the advocate with a woman saying they’re a queer family. which i guess maybe will help some people feel it’s okay but whatever. it just bothers me that this man who reaped the benefits of being a cishet man his entire life suddenly has this platform and is a face for queer issues, while many of us are fucking dying or wishing we were dead. the media caters to rich white cishet people because that’s who has the money. i’m over everything. how many fucking trans women of color have been murdered this year? why are fucking white privileged men are going to continue to make money off of us while we are killing ourselves? i’m fucking sick of this fucking country.
