Zadnji je dan Mjeseca Hrvatske Knjige što znači da je također zadnji dan čitalačkog izazova Morine Kutije. Iako nisam uspjela dovršiti 3 knjige hrvatskih autora u tom periodu od mjesec dana, izvući ću se sa činjenicom da općenito često čitam domaće autore, pogotovo domaću spekulativnu fikciju. Tako da si opraštam što nisam ispunila svaki zadatak sa barem jednom knjigom.

Sa druge strane, ovaj mi je mjesec ipak dao priliku da proučim neke knjige za koje još nisam niti čula, a "Povratak Genija" je bila jedna od njih. Preporuku sam našla u jednom od članaka objavljenom na stranici Morine Kutije, i moram priznati stvarno sam se ugodno iznenadila. Ova knjiga doista bila posebna.

Radnja prati Niki Teruru, ženu koja sa svojom ostarjelom bakom živi na Hvaru i koju posjete prijatelji iz Brazila, blizanci Prutić i Bat. Prutića je nedavno udario grom te se pretvorio u pravog ekscentričnog genija, a njegov brat Bat odluči profitirati na njegovom fantastičnom izumu - kapi sreće. Niki im odluči pomoći kako bi sa zarađenom plaćom uspjela otplatiti novi krov za bakinu kuću te se tako upusti u neobičan, tajnovit i opasan posao stvaranja sreće.

Iako roman neupitno zalazi u granice spekulativne fikcije i znanstvene fantastike, stil pisanja daleko se razlikuje od drugih takvih dijela. Čita se primarno kao suvremeni roman, sa naglaskom na svakodnevni život i iskustvima sa gubitkom, ljubavi, tugom i obitelji. Autorica pristupa navedenim temama iz ciničnog pogleda svoje glavne junakinje, no ispod ironične površine i Nikine naoko općenite nezainteresiranosti za ljude oko sebe, krije se duboka povezanost sa svijetom i njezinim bližnjima. Niki možda ne vjeruje u sreću, niti je zadovoljna svojim životom, ali Ščavina tijekom cijelog romana otkriva dijelove njezine osobnosti koje su neopovrgivo vezane za ljubav prema svojim prijateljima, te pogotovo prema svojoj baki.

U svojoj suštini, Niki je opsjednuta sa potrebom da drugim ljudima olakša život. Njezina sreća izravno ovisi o tuđoj, zbog čega nikada nije zadovoljna. Njezina svakodnevica ovisi o raspoloženju drugih osoba, a svaka prilika koju iskoristi da napokon otvoreno priča o svojim vlastitim problemima i brigama, ubrzo okrene osobu kojoj se obraća protiv nje. Vječito izbavlja svoje bližnje iz neprijatnih situacija, ali skriveno se nada da se netko udostoji učiniti isto za nju.

Sa druge strane, Niki odbija prihvatiti ikakvu pomoć od drugih ljudi, koliko god ona bila dobronamjerna. Svoje nesigurnosti pokušava razrješiti preko prijatelja, ljubavnika i bake, pokušavajući im se umiliti, ponuditi podršku ili ih natjerati na promjenu, no isti princip odbija primjeniti na sebi, što je jedan od razloga zašto se neprestano svađa sa svojom najboljom prijateljicom Anjom i zašto joj toliko smeta što njezina baka odbija ikakvu pomoć koju Niki nudi oko kućanskih poslova. Tek kada Niki napokon iskreno popriča sa Anjom i kada baka doista zatreba njenu pomoć, Niki je napokon natjerana da nešto učini, umjesto da tek pasivno sudjeluje u svom vlastitom životu.

Kao što sam već prethodno spomenula, ljubav, sreća, obitelj i briga glavne su teme ove knjige, a Ščavina im pristupa na jedinstven način za koji bih ja rekla da je jako specifično domaći. Možda je u pitanju mjesto radnje na Hvaru, možda je suživot sa bakom i djedom, možda je gotovo tmuran odnos između likova koji je ipak ispunjen sa toliko emocija, a možda je u pitanju samo zašećereno mlijeko. Bilo kako bilo, brzo sam se uspjela povezati sa romanom na većoj razini, nego što bih to možda mogla učiniti sa knjigom nekog stranog autora.

Kapa sreće, znanstveni laboratorij i Prutićeva zaluđenost sa promijenom svijeta su elementi koji ovu knjigu službeno svrstavaju u znanstvenu fantastiku. Iako su bitni za samu radnju, ne predstavljaju temeljnu ideju knjige, već pružaju tek dodatni zaplet koji nadopunjava Nikin odnos sa drugim likovima. Ščavina ne predaje previše vremena nepotrebnim objašnjenjima spomenute tehnologije jer nisu bitna za ono što svojom pričom želi prenijeti čitatelju.

"Povratak Genija" doista me ugodno iznenadio i potpuno osvojio. Pružio mi je toliko toga, od smijeha do suza, te će mi dugo ostati u vrlo dragom sjećanju. Od srca ga preporučujem svakome tko uživa u knjigama sa naglaskom na likovima, tko inače čita primarno suvremene romane i želi isprobati nešto sa elementima znanstvene fantastike, i svim osobama koje samo žamo žele jednu šaljivu, ali toplu i neosporivo izvrsnu knjigu.

Era sadnya adalah, gua salah pilihan which is salah orang. Gua gak tau kapan belum bisa tidur, dan akhirnya gua ngajak ngobrol mas mas cemoro berinisial R.
