Things that surprised me as a European tourist in the United States
This is based on my experience as a Spaniard traveling to the United States (specifically New York City and Washington, D. C.).
Like many people around the world, I have grown up in contact with U.S. culture through literature, film, and music, so I didn't experience much cultural shock, but some things still surprised me.
All vehicles (cars, trucks, school buses...) are huge! Most cars are pickup trucks or SUVs. The most common brands came from the United States, but I also saw many Japanese cars, especially Nissan and Toyota (mostly Prius, USAmericans seem to love this model 😂).
Customer service is great, not only in restaurants or places where one is expected to leave a tip but also in museums and subway stations.
I heard many different languages spoken by locals, including Mandarin, Russian, and Spanish, as well as European languages spoken by tourists, such as French, German, and Portuguese. (I think that this is mostly the case in big cities, and especially NYC.)
People wear face masks more often, although I guess that this is transient due to flu season. Still, way fewer people wear them in Spain.
Taxes are not included in the price. (I was aware of this but used to forget about it at first.)
Toilets are not as deep as in Europe (the water is really close to your butt 😖), and many flush automatically. Public restrooms always have seat covers but normally do not have a toilet lid.
Doors are really heavy! No wonder many people (mostly men) held them open for me. I once had to throw myself against the door to open it. What is the deal with doors in the U.S.? (Is it a NYC thing only?)
People were quite loud (and this is coming from someone who grew up in a country that is renowned for how loud we talk) and played music/videos without headphones in the subway 😑
Cops are surprisingly chill despite the reputation that they have. A guy was insulting a couple of them from across the subway platform, and they just smiled and waved at him. In Spain, it is a crime to insult a police officer, so I was surprised that they were so calm about the whole situation.
On that note, there were a lot of cops around the city at all times (even at 5 a.m.). I counted nine of them in Penn Station!
Drivers honk all the time because of every minor inconvenience. On Thanksgiving Day, there were a lot of traffic jams, and people were honking as if that would magically clear the streets... And, of course, if one person honked, the rest honked as well, so walking on the street on the main avenues was really deafening 😐
Traffic lights are quite far away from where cars have to stop.
Fire truck sirens are really loud and sound like emergency alarm systems. (It reminded me of those TikTok videos ranking them.)
People say "Excuse me" in the subway when going in or out, which was a nice change from the shoving and pushing I'm used to in Madrid.
I saw a lot of people carrying around huge reusable water bottles. (Here's an explanation for why USAmericans drink so much.)
Tumblr media
People called me "Ma'am" instead of "Miss". I know it's the polite way to address people, but it was very weird 😂
New Yorkers love to use cardinal directions (north, south, east, west) when giving directions. Someone once told me, "Go west on Broadway" and I was like "I have trouble orienting myself when I use Google Maps, do you think I know which direction I'm going in at all times??".
There are lots of caution signs about worker safety on construction sites, both in English and Spanish, which leads me to think that there are many work accidents 🤔
As a solo female traveler, I was a bit concerned about my security in a city that I have heard is dangerous and in a country where mass shootings are a relatively normal occurrence, but I felt mostly safe. I was surprised to see many posters that read, "If you see something, say something".
Related to the above, I was shocked to see "This is a gun free zone" posters in public places and "No guns allowed" posters on supermarket doors.
Tumblr media
I was really surprised to see ads with phone numbers with words in them, like the one below. After doing some research, I discovered they are called vanity numbers and are easier for people to remember. (If, like me, you're wondering how to dial these numbers, apparently you just press the number that corresponds to the letter on the keypad.)
Tumblr media
I smelled marijuana everywhere! Although illegal in Spain, you can also smell it sometimes, but it seemed ubiquitous in NYC. (I personally hate the smell, which is why I noticed.)

K12 Nissan March from the 2003 Nissan March Cup
NISSAN MARCH CUP
East Japan Series/West Japan Series/Champion Cup
●Nissan March Cup
The 2003 March Cup was switched to the current model K12 and refurbished. Two series were held, EAST JAPAN and WEST JAPAN, and Kaoru Ijiri won the title with an overwhelming performance in both races. Furthermore, he dominated the championship match held in Suzuka, making the new March Cup truly a solo stage for Ijiri.
Despite being in its first year since being renamed K12, the March Cup has had over 30 entries in every race. The reason for this is that it targets not only beginners, but also drivers who are no longer satisfied with the number-free racing that is popular these days. A race-ready kit car was sold at a value price of less than 1.6 million yen. As a result, drivers who had driven K11 until 2002 were able to make a smooth transition, and it became extremely popular.
The EAST JAPAN series, which takes place in Motegi, Tsukuba, and Fuji, and the WEST JAPAN series, which take place in TI and MINE, will each hold five races. In addition, the championship race, which used to be held during the series, has now been changed to the end of the series, and the driver with the most total points earned in this race and each series will be awarded the Fairlady Z. Needless to say, this was one of the attractions.
The memorable first race of the new March Cup was held at TI. The winner here was Ijiri Kao. The driver, who had extensive experience not only in touring cars but also in formula racing, continued to dominate. At Fuji, the opening race of the EAST JAPAN series, he remained in 5th place due to contact on the final lap, but this was the only race in which he lost. From the second round onwards, it was all pole-to-win. He was originally scheduled to only appear in the opening round, but he re-entered the WEST JAPAN Series from the third round.
He won three consecutive games and won two titles. Ijiri categorically stated that the reason for such a fast advance was ``I was able to finish the car faster than anyone else.'' However, at the same time, he also acknowledges his own growth. ``Perhaps because I was able to win the March Cup, I am able to race while keeping an eye on the big picture. Before, I was only thinking about the short term. Now, I can run with a lot of leeway, and I am able to set the time on the lap I aimed for in qualifying.
Now I can do it.'' There is no way that Ijiri would be weak even in the championship match. Although there was a fierce battle for second place between Masaki Nishihata, Shingo Kanaya, and former motorcycle racer Kazuto Sakata, he managed to come out on top and completely dominate the 2010 March Cup. Of course, you can also hold Fairlady Z in your hands. It's been 10 years since March's one-make race, and it's just the 20th anniversary.
At this juncture in history, even more fierce battles are expected.
PIC CAPTIONS.
The new March Cup has gained popularity not only from participants but also from spectators due to its cute appearance. However, the exhaust sound is loud and the movement is sharp. Attractive and impressive that sets it apart from numbered races
The March Cup is an easy and inexpensive introductory race, but it also uses a data logger, making it perfect for serious skill development. There were 36 entries at Fuji at the start of EAST JAPAN SERES.
From the opening round, Ijiri's speed was outstanding, and his rivals were lagging behind throughout the year. He is currently winning the special award Z for his performance worthy of leaving his name as the first-year champion.

[NEWS] TWICE aims for top of the Billboard in the interview with Reuters.
"In an interview with Reuters, members of TWICE said they were elated to perform as a group after focusing on solo or sub-unit activities over the last year.
The six-track mini album and its lead single, "One Spark," were meant to embody the passion and love the members share among themselves and with the fans, Chaeyoung said. With two other band members, Jeongyeon and Dahyun, she wrote the lyrics.
"I think this album is a collection of things that represent our youth, the friendship and special bond that glues together nine of us and that only TWICE can show," she said.
The pre-released single, "I Got You," had headed iTunes' top songs chart in 41 regions, TWICE's management JYP Entertainment Corp (035900.KQ), said, and the band aims for a higher spot on the Billboard main chart.
"I have a dream. I'll be really happy if we score high on the Billboard, even if not No. 1," Chaeyoung said.
TWICE has resumed its fifth world tour, performing in Mexico City and Sao Paulo this month and is set to visit Las Vegas in March. In July, the band's members will become the first overseas female artists to play the Nissan Stadium in Kanagawa, Japan.
Like many other K-pop groups, TWICE faces tight schedules and public pressure, but "letting go of things" and strength as a group helped its members to cope, they said.
Jeongyeon also said she had taken boxing lessons to unwind.
"You need to learn to rely on the people around you, and to get help from them, not do everything alone," Mina said."

I VICINI SCOMODI
Tumblr media Tumblr media

unprompted HC
My VC for Trickster is Max Changmin.
No one can outdo the sexiness Mirotic had in the early 2000s.
but also man is a vocal KING (Both of TVXQ have the "Kings of k-pop" title.) His solo work and TVXQ work is fantastic.
youtube
youtube
Trickster could definitely have a smooth and more performative/theatrical sound that also hits a bit punchier and lend to rock/edgier vocals. (Plus having the sound of older/golden-era K-pop.) Man needs an amazing range for a soloist who has to make up for a missing band. This ties into: TVXQ actually began as a five-member boy band in 2003, and later became a duo. Despite their commercial success, the group plunged into legal turmoil and internal conflict when three members attempted to split from their Korean agency. Eventually leaving just the duo after a year hiatus, where they topped charts in most Asian markets.
I'll leave some songs here for your listening pleasure:
Piano is the smoother sounds; Devil for the deep soulful vocals, perfect for mournful ballads; and Fever for the rock/edgy vocals that would make NoSpin stand out.
youtube
youtube
youtube
Gushing about Max, he can speak excellent English and nails soft vocals. Can see it around 5:20 here! (and his talk about ramen + cilantro. You can't say it's not something you don't see him doing with YunJin) The whole interview is precious, from sad eyes due to being busy with little memories to being a bad guy/villain!
youtube
but also here you can hear his deeper vocals without music! (around the 2:34 mark) That deep chuckle around 2:50 is everything 🥰
youtube
Oh- plus there's this side note about TVXQ: Selling over 10 million records in the first 10 years of their career, TVXQ has become one of Asia's most successful music acts of their generation. They are often referred to as "Asia's Stars" and the "Kings of K-pop" for their immense success and contributions to the Hallyu. The duo became the first non-Japanese Asian artists to headline a nationwide five-Dome tour in Japan and were the first foreign artists to perform in the Nissan Stadium. Billboard has described the group as "K-pop royalty".
Seems like inspirational wise it'd lend to the "Legendary Trickster" status.

3 days, 2 nights and 34 miles solo on the Outer Mountain Loop plus the Northeast Rim in Big Bend National Park 1/10-1/12/23
As you might already know, I took a seasonal job as a waitress at the Chisos Mountain Lodge in Big Bend National Park to save money and create some beautiful experiences in the outdoors. It has been a blast! I’ve been able to hike so much and really knock out a lot of goals in solo and distance hiking. The outer mountain loop is a 31.6 mile backpacking route that takes you up from the basin, through the chisos mountains, out and around the range, through the desert, back up into the mountains, and back down into the basin. This is the hike I came here to do.
Tumblr media
Photo from all trails.
After a couple months of getting my legs on the trails, as well as tackling more and more distance, I finally felt confident in my ability to complete the route alone.
Due to the distance of the route and the dry nature of the desert, staying hydrated was the biggest challenge to tackle. There are 2 water caches located on either end of the desert stretch, one at Homer Wilson Ranch, and the other off of the remote Juniper Canyon rd. I couldn’t get to this one before my hike because the road conditions require a high clearance vehicle, and y’all better believe I’m still rocking that busted Altima. “I been through the desert in a Nissan with no Bumper” (or whatever America said) So my only option was to pack the extra water, and cache at Homer Wilson, a good 24 miles from my starting point. I carried 7L of water and 2 coconut electroLit beverages. 2.5 lbs per liter. My pack was heavy! But I did what I had to do. Attaching soon a list of what I packed.
1/10/23 Day 1
I woke up around 5 am, without an alarm, and realized I had forgotten my headlamp at the hot springs the night before. This added 46 miles to my morning commute, some of which was on a rocky dirt road. I got the shit scared out of me by some horses that I actually spooked first. Lucky for me, my headlamp was there, right where I left it. I ran back to my car under the last of the moonlight and hauled 30 miles to the basin. I worked a breakfast shift at the lodge and got out around 10:30am. I had to leave this day because I only have 2 days off at a time. My first day of hiking was only 6 miles so I had a little time to kill. I decided to drive back to my trailer and look over all my camp stuff to see if there was anything else I should take. I ended up figuring out how to pack my tent, as I was originally planning not to. So glad I did!! Being solo can be spooky in the dark. It’s nice to have a little barrier. I meditated in my room for a bit after securing my final pack. I felt many things. Excited, nervous, happy, sad, lonely, empowered. I let every part of me be channeled into what I was about to do. Heading back up to the basin, I grabbed a Red Bull and some stoke from Sarah at the gas station. Shout out to the homie. I got back up in the mountains just before noon. I stretched, used the bathroom, and texted parents as well as some friends at the park about where I was going and when I should be back. The last thing I needed before heading out was a tool to loosen the bolt on my hiking pole, so I ran to the maintenance room and got what I needed. Finally, in all my nervous energy, I was ready to start!!! The basin was pretty slow and not many people were around, but still, I felt super awkward putting on my giant pack while a group of teenagers gaped at me from across the parking lot like, “what the hell is that chick about to go do?” I hurried off onto the trail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mile 1, 2 and 3 in order.
Like I said before, my pack was heavy, and the pinnacles trail is the steeper route to take up into the mountains. I had a good starting pace but I had to take many breaks. A pair of 2 other girls on the trail helped keep me going, we passed each other on alternating breaks. We agreed it was nice to share the suffering. Hiking isn’t easy for anyone, it’s always a challenge, and that’s why we do it.
I made it to pinnacles pass around 2pm and made a sandwich. I talked with some older folks about my route, different parks, hikes they’ve done, and other general oldhead hiker things. After lunch, they headed down, and I headed up to the Northeast rim. I filtered some water in boot canyon on the way.
Tumblr media
I dropped my Patagonia fleece and backtracked a quarter mile to go get it. (This is the second time I’ve done this on trail, different occasions too, smdh. Feels like the universe is trying to teach me a lesson about attachment, I love that thing too damn much.) I got to my site, ER7, around 5pm and made dinner on the rim while bathing in the colorful sunset.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back at my site, it was the moment I had looked forward to all day, Spliff:30. I enjoyed 1, did some writing and reading from Last of The Mohicans, smoked another, and pretty much passed out as soon as it was dark. The weather was very mild, I didn’t use any cold gear. I slept 12 hours on the hard ground with the wind and stars all around me.
Day 2
I woke with the rise of the sun and packed up in time to see it come up over the horizon, lighting up the desert and cliff walls below me. I started hiking from my campsite at 8:15am.

Tumblr won’t let me add anymore photos so continue on part 2 (next post)

«Ópera y fútbol: un mundial y tres tenores»
Tumblr media

How to Maximize Savings on Your 3-Day Rental
To ensure you get the best deal on your 3-day car rental in Belize, consider the following tips:
Book in Advance: Prices for car rentals can fluctuate based on demand. Booking your vehicle in advance can help secure a lower rate and ensure availability, especially during peak travel seasons.
Look for Discounts and Promotions: Car-One Rental Belize often offers special discounts and promotions. Check their website or inquire when booking to see if any deals are available that could reduce your rental cost.
Choose the Right Vehicle: Select a vehicle that meets your needs without exceeding them. For example, if you’re only driving in the city, an economy car might be more cost-effective than an SUV.
Avoid Unnecessary Extras: While additional services like GPS navigation or insurance upgrades can be useful, they also add to the cost. Evaluate whether you truly need these extras before adding them to your rental package.
Refuel Before Returning: Car-One Rental Belize, like most rental companies, requires you to return the vehicle with a full tank of gas. Refueling the car yourself is usually cheaper than paying the rental company’s refueling fee.

Nissan My Room Camper Van
