I always enjoy your Doraemon posts! How about: something you really like about Doraemon?

I'd love to talk about something I really like about this series! I feel there's plenty, but I'll just talk about two things I think are underrated under the cut:

First things first, one of my favorite things about the series has always been Suneo's relationship with his mom. I always loved that he's like a lil mini her, and that they are close.

I love to see a parent and child be close and get along in any type of series, found family or actual blood relatives. It's just very sweet to see and it makes me happy!

There's an episode I recall where they were searching for his mom's favorite piece of clothing and it turned out to be a shirt Suneo made for her:

There's also a more recentish episode where Mrs. Honekawa allows Suneo to wear and share clothes from her own closet, and is overall supportive of his fashion designer dreams.

There's plenty I think that can be pointed to, endless list of examples, but overall they are my favorite family duo of the series.

Otherwise my other favorite thing is the Suneo, Shizuka and Gian friendship. It's strange and you wonder sometimes if Shizuka's so nice, why does she hang out with these two so much? I could go into headcanons or wishes for the series, but instead I'll say I just think what they have going on is sweet.

It's in the fact that, as it goes for the most part, there's a lack of any romantic interest between her and those two. Sometimes there's an occasional moment with Suneo, but it doesn't really ever feel like he's legit pursuing her. No predestined romance, or nonsense unlike with someone else.

I like how she laughs along with them often, that they all seem close enough that Suneo always invites them out with him. Presumably a popular enough kid, and perceived as very kind hanging out with two little menaces to society.

One of my favorite bits, an overall small moment, is in 'I Don't Like Shizuka-Chan Being Like This':

Context: This Shizuka is a fake, a copy robot, and overall causing problems for Doraemon and Nobita. I just love this bit because on seeing Shizuka fall down, and Nobita being the one to cause that to happen, they rush over FURIOUS with him.

I think it's sweet that they are immediately on the attack if someone is being mean to her, even if that assumption in this case would be false.

There's more in the series but I wanna point out Little Star Wars is amazing for the fact it's got Shizuka and Suneo as a duo. Also they get to blow up people together, now that's a bonding activity.

I love Gian and Suneo as a duo as is, but it is very refreshing to see them be apart.

I can give you the complete ending as per the Doraemon manga comic.After the outrage of pessimist ending, Nobuo-Sato derived this ending.

Actually, one day, when Nobita returns from school, on his way, as usual, he gets beaten-up by Gian. He then runs to home to ask a gadget from Doraemon so that he can take revenge on him. But when he enters hi room, he finds Doraemon lying unconscious on the floor. He then tries a lot to wake him up, but fails. Finally, he takes out time-television from his pocket and contacts Doraemi. After examining his brother, Doraemi exclaims that his battery had failed and had only two options. One is that taking him to robotic technician in 22nd century who will replace his battery and thus resulting complete memory-loss or else waiting until a competent robotic technician develops a perfect battery for him without any memory loss. Nobita chooses second one. He then completely changes and told his friends a lie that Doraemon went back to 22nd century.He start studying well and becomes determined to become a Successful robotic A.I. Scientist.

The story dates to future where all the friends are graduates. On the last day of their graduation, Dekisugi who is madly in love with Shizuka proposes her. But she eventually rejects him saying that she needs time and permission from her father. Gian is a successful businessman now and Suneo is the president of Honekawa company which manufactures many automobiles. But Nobita is a scientist but still a part of madness and innocent behaviour rests with him. He usually do a lot of silly things which made shizukha to like him and she eventually accepts his proposal rejecting Dekisugi’s.

The night before wedding, Nobita, Shizukha, Gian and Suneo do an adventure in reaching airport on time to handle Mii-chan, a cat to her owner who is leaving abroad. Finally, they make on time and after watching the owner-pet love, Shizukha rememebers her father who gifted a dog Peru on her first birthday. That night, Gian, Suneo , Nobita and Dekisugi had a joyful dinner at Gian’s home and Jeiko served them. Later on, On his way home, Nobita met his teacher and he questioned about his sudden change in attitude.Then he answered that change comes in everyone but it only depends on time.

At the same time, in Shizukha’s home, she helped her mother and went to her ill-health and old father’s room and then she questioned her father whether her decision to marry Nobita is correct or not. Then his father told, “The day when you are born to us, we felt blessed. You gave all the joy to both me and your mother. But now I am proud of you for taking such a best decision. Nobita may be innocent and mischievous but he is one of the kind-hearted and good determined person. I am sure he will make you happy”.

On the day of their wedding, Everyone visited and blessed them. Even Dekisugi arrived with his future wife, a scientist. And they married happily. After few days, when Shizukha entered Nobita’s room to hand coffee, then she saw Nobita repairing something. And finally he exclaimed “I did it”. Then the robot woke up and asked “Nobita, Did you complete your homework ?” Tears filled in both of their eyes and they both hugged Doraemon tightly and then Nobita narrated everything. Thereafter, they lived happily. Nobita and Shizukha used to go for work where as Doraemon takes care of their son Nobisuke.

Unpopular Opinions On Doraemon

if we take into account all the long 2d doraemon movies (so, excluding stand by me & its sequel), nobita and the windmasters (2003) is the best one by far. although i haven't watched them all yet, none of the others i have watched comes close to this one.

in general, i'm not a big fan of these movies where they go on adventures (the only one i absolutely loved and would watch again with no issues is nobita and the windmasters, maybe nobita's dorabian nights too). this is one of the reasons why i have watched stand by me 2 at least 7 times, despite its flaws. they should bring back short movies like dorami-chan: mini-dora sos!!! and nobita's night before a wedding (but possibly come up with new stories, that take place in the future, considering we already know this one by heart).

the art style they use for the 2005 anime is atrocious, they should have sticked with the one they used in the late 90s and early 2000s, it was so polished. well, with the 2018 animation update things only got worse. at least many of the episodes that came out between 2005 and 2017 were fun, but the recent ones are boring as fuck and most are just bad remakes of classic episodes.

saved the most important for last: some of the grown ass men in this fandom call shizuka a gold digger and they don't even know they're talking about. you've probably seen this image already, now tell me: what kinda power does gian have? because nowadays you have more chances of solving your problems with money, not violence (that's gonna get u in jail if anything). she didn't even need dekisugi's help with homework since her grades were pretty good as well. it's actually common for students to enjoy studying with their friends. and who are her other friends? exactly, 3 kids who couldn't care less about school, so no wonder she'd rather do her hw with dekisugi. also, what's wrong with a rich kid inviting his friends to his family trips? cuz if i recall correctly suneo always invited shizuka AND gian, never only shizuka. and that's bc those 2 are his closest friends. and let's not forget she married the guy who wasn't rich or good at school, which says a lot about her. mind u they got married when they were 24-25, doraemon had prolly been gone for a decade by that time (so she did not marry nobita for the fucking gadgets). she chose him over dekisugi, who had also proposed to her (the others hadn't, which makes sense bc it was always platonic what they had going on with her). this speaks volumes on her character i think, she could have had a flawless guy who works as a fucking astronaut (=💸) but she said no.

i would like to know if y'all agree, especially abt the last one. my other opinions i know are quite controversial: idgaf. and i might make a part 2 cuz why not!

Doraemon Vol. 8 from The Complete Works of Fujiko F. Fujio

The stories in this one were published in 1975–1981. In a clear indicator that some of them were drawn concurrently with the airing of the classic anime series, Doraemon and Nobita namedrop their own voice actors at one point!

Some of the most iconic Doraemon stories in this volume (as determined by my personal experience and biases):

"音のない世界" ("A World Without Sound", 1977): To avoid having to listen to another one of Gian's concerts, Nobita and Doraemon create a parallel universe where sound doesn't exist. It doesn't work as planned, because just reading Gian's lyrics is unbearable. I wondered how the anime handled this story, and as it turns out... it hasn't. This is one of the few Doraemon manga chapters that has never been adapted into the anime.

"天井うらの宇宙戦争" ("The Space War in the Ceiling", 1978): Nobita and Doraemon answer a distress call from tiny aliens, in a parody of Star Wars: A New Hope. Not to be confused with Nobita's Little Star Wars, despite the very similar theme.

"のび太の地底国" ("Nobita's Underground Nation", 1980): Nobita and his friends build a secret base underground. He appoints himself as their leader and the power goes to his head. The beginning of this story was later used as the basis for the movie Nobita and the Knights on Dinosaurs.

"ぼくよりダメなやつがきた" ("Someone Worse Than Me Came", 1980): Nobita's class receives a new transfer student who gets even worse grades than he does.

"のら犬「イチ」の国" ("Land of Ichi the Stray Dog", 1980): Nobita picks up a stray dog and realizes that there's a major stray animal problem in the area. He and Doraemon find a home for them in the Carboniferous Period. This story was later used as the basis for the movie Nobita in the Wan-Nyan Spacetime Odyssey.

"しずちゃんさようなら" ("Goodbye, Shizuka", 1980): Nobita worries that Shizuka will be miserable if she gets married to him in the future. He decides that the solution to this is to make her hate him.

"のび太が消えちゃう?" ("Will Nobita Disappear?", 1981): Nobita and Doraemon travel back in time to convince Nobita's dad to pursue his dream of becoming an artist, but then realize this might prevent Nobita from ever having been born.

why did u dislike stand by me? other than the art style

While you said aside from art style, I'll say it's worse than I thought it'd be. I hate when the characters open their terrible no tooth mouths, they do it so much it's hard to ignore and it's awful to look at. Aside from the uncanny factor though, the backgrounds and scenery look nice.

As for the movie itself, I feel like it just highlights everything I don't really like about the Doraemon series? From the Nobita and Shizuka """romance""", to the weird perverted jokes at Shizuka's expense. I'm also in general not a fan of the 'Doraemon leaves/April Fools' story they used at the end, so I wasn't happy to see it again and in a movie I could care less about.

It doesn't feel like anything changes or progresses, it doesn't make me believe Nobita ever grows to be his own person that can take care of himself, that they don't set anything up for any of the payoff it gives...

They throw in some dialogue about Nobita being depressed, they use sad lighting, and they use tears but they never are actually saying anything meaningful. It just feels like tools to cheat you into feeling sad but it really had the opposite effect on me, I just felt annoyed because the emotional moments do not feel earned.

When Nobita drinks the juice that makes people hate him and Shizuka fights against it to comfort him, that should be a moment that moves you... a triumph and instead I just sit there and don't feel very moved because it didn't feel like there was any progression in their relationship to earn this? Like the idea I like, it's sweet inherently but it doesn't play out in a way that makes me engaged in the story.

Everyone takes a backseat for Nobita's obsession with Shizuka which I think, is the worst thing you could make the focus. I know it's an important part of the plot but I've never liked it, I've already discussed how Shizuka doesn't feel like her own person but just a prize to be won by Nobita in the end... when movies, episodes, etc focus on it so much- it makes me believe in their relationship less and less.

I'm sorry but putting her in a weird outfit for your benefit, trying to force her to fall in love with you via imprinting, up-skirting her in public.... it doesn't make me root for him. Those things in the series have done the opposite of make me root for them, especially contrasted with how Dekisugi treats her. It makes me wonder why on earth she'd pick Nobita in any universe, but specifically this one?

Also something, something... how marrying Jaiko was not the issue and Nobita's misery is his own fault, but yeah sure let's focus on what wife this ten year old gets in the future.

It's especially horrible hearing her say, during the blizzard in the cave, "You need someone to take care of you." As a reason to marry Nobita, as a reason to say yes to the proposal... SHE'S TOO GOOD FOR HIM IN THIS MOVIE! Sorry to say. That is not a wife, that's a mother- it's not love it just feels like pity.

Nobita needs to learn some actual self love and not betting all his happiness on a marriage years from now. Putting all his points into one person for some distant goal is a bad idea, what about the now? What about building bonds with his friends, his family? What about fixing himself as he is now.

I get the point is that somehow earning Shizuka's love will help him, make him a better person, but it doesn't feel like it. It also just feels.... not good. I would talk about the reliance on gadgets instead of self help in any way, but that's always been a thing.

Anyhow, it's a movie that exists for people who are already a fan of the franchise to trick you into thinking it's emotional because your knowledge and feel for the characters already give you depth for them. It feels like it's trying to get cheap and easy tears out of you and I don't really care for that.

It's also a whirlwind of stories I already know, done a bit worse for some in a bad art style. It was doomed to be a movie I don't like. I just can't think of anything positive I felt from it that I couldn't get better in any other Doraemon movie, chapter or even episode.

Sometimes I like to characterize Nobita as Dekisugi's favourite person, not Shizuka. Yes, Shizuka is a perfect match to him but their bland on their own unless there was Nobita there.

They are a match in characteristics mainly the smart, attractive and kind hearted kids but without Nobita, they are just really bland. Sure, they are perfect but they lacked something Nobita always had, his understanding of people, his livelyness, his carefree attitude and his ability to be dependent on people, mainly Doraemon.

To me, Nobita is something that both Dekisugi and Shizuka want. They've both been independent for so long that Nobita's dependency was a new breath of air for them. Yes, Shizuka and Dekisugi are perfect but they love Nobita just because he is Nobita.

I think Shizuka knew if she were to marry Dekisugi, their dynamic would be bland because they are both independent people. So, she choose Nobita who is everything she wanted and wanted to be.

They are my favorite ship.

I just love how unique their dynamic is and how different they are from other Naruto ships and fictional ships in general. So much hate, hypocrisy and double standards are involved in spouting them but I never cared. It just increases my love for the ship, and Sasuke Retsuden absolutely nailed it in improving their dynamic!

Hyakkimaru x Mio

They are my new ship and since I'm currently watching Dororo, I can't refrain from mentioning them. They are absolutely one of the cutest, pure and genuine ships but sadly their story became a tragedy 😭 They both loved each other so much that they deserved a happy ending, I'm so sad 😞

Kane x Salima

Probably, the only couple in this list where there aren't enough canon implications to prove their romantic relationship, but from the anime it really gives me a feeling that Salima actually does like him because who would risk their life so much that they don't even mind falling debris? Well, but one fanfiction triggered me to like this ship and till date, my fondness for them never ceased. They aren't popular but who cares? It made me love them more 🥹♥️

Unpopular Opinions On Doraemon #2

shizuka should have ended up with dekisugi, or at least she deserved someone better than nobita. and not because he was a loser and a bad student, but rather because he wasn't very respectful of her and treated her like an object & a trophy to win. my sis wasn't even allowed to have a male friend without nobita losing his mind & becoming a jealous mess. actually, forget relationships & friendships, she can't even play a role unless he's her male counterpart. not to mention all those inappropriate scenes, you know which ones. idk abt u but me personally, i wouldn't see myself marrying a guy who does that to me.

to stay on topic, i don't like how grossed out by the idea of marrying jaiko he is & u know it's not because she's gian's sister, it's because she's ugly to him. he'd rather be with a pretty girl he has nothing in common with. and it's lowkey upsetting cuz there's some cute moments between nobita & jaiko but whatever.

nobita needs to stop inserting himself into suneo, gian & shizuka's business when he wasn't invited in the first place. i'm specifically talking about the space heroes film where those 3 are cosplaying as superheroes they saw on tv & filming themselves, & outta nowhere nobita & doraemon wanna join... there's many other occasions where those 2 pull this shit & it gives off desperate & obsessed everytime. and u know what irritates me the most? that they try to paint suneo as a snobby kid who excludes the poor loser, but the tea is: u can't force ppl to invite u to their activities, especially when it comes to family trips, that's private shit!

no, i'm not done dragging nobita yet, cuz he needs to stop copying suneo's hobbies. and i ain't even talking abt when he wants the same toys as suneo, everyone else wants them too. i'm talking abt when he copies specific hobbies like the fashion designer thing, i've already talked about this in a previous post & it's annoying & once again makes him look boring, obsessed & desperate. specially when suneo does it cuz it's his passion & relies on his knowledge & skills, while nobita only tries to keep up w him & has to rely on doraemon's gadgets cuz he obviously has no idea what he's doing, he's just bitter suneo eats him up everytime.

Thanks to Doraemon’s interference, Nobita and Shizuka end up married in the future. As children, Nobita’s crush on Shizuka is obvious, and there can be no question that Shizuka sees him as a close friend. She genuinely enjoys his company, goes above and beyond to help him when he is in trouble, and would be very upset if he had to move away. But does she ever consider him in a romantic light?

In the present day, Shizuka has not committed to the idea of marrying anyone specific yet. When Nobita uses the "Dream Recorder" (ユメコーダー) to find out who her ideal partner would be, her future partner is shown with a blank face. Her dream partner does say, however, that while they are lacking in accomplishments and riches, they love her more than anyone.

So how does Nobita stack up against Shizuka’s dream partner? There are many times when Shizuka seems unimpressed with him. When Nobita sends a pumpkin carriage to bring her over for a party, she is disappointed to see that he’s the one behind it.

She is disappointed again when he gives her a poster as a present, only to find it’s a poster of him. He wanted to give her a poster of a fancy car sealed inside "Easy Carrier Paper" (かるがる持ち運び用紙), but when the driver drove away, Nobita put himself in the poster in desperation.

Nobita uses the “Talent Selection Board” (いいとこ選択肢ボード) to improve his looks, but Shizuka doesn’t believe it’s him, saying that Nobita is much “funnier looking”.

After Nobita strands the two of them on a deserted island with the "Robinson Crusoe Set" (ロビンソンクルーソーセット), he tries to calm Shizuka by telling her that he’s there. She retorts that that’s the reason she’s worried!

When Nobita has appeared in Shizuka’s dreams, it’s sometimes a very unflattering image.

However, that is not always the case. When Shizuka is cast in the role of a princess in a shared dream using the "Indulgent Dream Kit" (気ままに夢見る機とアクセサリーセット), she is resistant to the idea of an arranged marriage and sneaks away from the palace, disguised as a male knight. But after adventuring with "Nobitania" (who, unknown to her, is played by the real Nobita), she admits that if he was her arranged partner, she would be happy to marry him.

When Shizuka tells Nobita about her dream the next morning, she’s not willing to say too much, but she does reveal that his dream counterpart was “very cool”.

Under the influence of the "Dramatic Gas" (ドラマチックガス), Nobita confesses his love to Shizuka and she shyly replies that she loves him, too. Although this should not be read literally due to the gadget’s effect, the "Dramatic Gas" seems to work by exaggerating existing emotions instead of making them up.

Shizuka is also known to get jealous when Nobita is attracted to other girls.

The anime contains more hints that Shizuka may harbor romantic feelings for Nobita. When Nobita uses the “Popularity Pheromone” (モテモテール) to make himself irresistibly attractive to women, Shizuka is affected, but continues to act normally around him and refuses to let him copy her homework. One interpretation for why her behavior does not change might be that she is already attracted to him.

Heart symbols are seen rising from her after Nobita saves her from a blizzard.

When Nobita enters her dreams and defeats a monster giving her nightmares, Shizuka (not knowing it’s the real him) is so grateful she wants to marry him.

When they first meet in kindergarten, Shizuka gives Nobita a kiss after he retrieves her hat, which Gian had dropped in a swimming pool.

In the present, Shizuka has kissed Nobita on two occasions. Once is after he spent all day looking for a pin she lost, and fixed it after he accidentally broke it.

Another time is when Nobita used the “Mosquito Needle” (蚊チューシャ) to get rid of her anxiety over a violin exam.

To tell the real Shizuka apart from a clone made by the “Clone Mirage” (分身蜃気楼), Nobita asks if Shizuka likes him. The clone is offended by the thought, but the real Shizuka blushes and refuses to answer. When Nobita asks for clarification later, Shizuka replies that her answer is "secret".
