The Little Mermaid (2023)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
The Little Mermaid has two thunderstorm sequences at night that contain constant and severe strobes of lightning. The first one does not end when the sound goes silent. There is magic performed at the end of Poor Unfortunate Souls that contains moderate to strong strobe effects.
The camera moves through both the air and water in disorienting ways on several occasions, with some rolling maneuvers being particularly dizzying.
Flashing Lights: 9/10. Motion Sickness: 6/10.
TRIGGER WARNING: A drowning victim coughs up water from their lungs very briefly.

Know what I just realized? Prince Eric’s overprotective mom trying to keep him away from the sea... is EXACTLY like The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea when he and Ariel do the exact same thing to their own daughter.
(In all seriousness if that cartoon gets remade I want to see Eric be a much more involved father. )

Some of y’all’s need to add racism and realism to fantasy when Black ppl are involved does not go unnoticed and needs to be studied. Like there is no reason y’all should be thinking that Ariel is gonna experience racism when she goes on land. Like at all. This isn’t a historical period piece meant for education or to tell of historical figures. It’s literal fantasy. How are y’all gonna react when the books and other ideas created by Black ppl and for Black ppl start airing??? Are y’all gonna be this weird? Cuz imma tell you now: y’all will not ruin LegendBorn, Raybearer, Children of Blood and Bone, etc for me. Period. Critiques are allowed but when your “criticism” starts sounding like antiblack rhetoric spread by white ppl then we have a huge problem and you need to reevaluate yourself. Quickly. And another thing. Let’s use common sense when discussing TLM. Why would Carlotta, or Vanessa for that matter, be wearing a crown??? Noma is Prince Eric’s mother and has been since the day she was casted. Be fr. Also, it makes no sense for Vanessa to be Black when Eric never even saw Ariel to begin with.

If UNIT is getting it’s own show, you know I’d love to see again? Captain Erisa Magambo.
You’re telling me that these two wouldn’t start with a slightly contentious working relationship, with Kate insisting that the science needs to lead UNIT and Erisa more focussed and insistent on the military aspect of UNIT.
Only for Erisa to find out that Ms High and Mighty Kate Stewart has in fact handled a gun and is not above using it. And Kate discovers that Erisa has a talent for xenolinguistics.
Do they fall in love? Obviously.
Or alternatively, they’re exes and this the first time they’ve had to work together.
Either way, I’d love to see them play off each other.
