NOIR CITY: Boston returns to its home at the Brattle Theatre, June 9-11 with eleven films celebrating their 75th anniversaries. FNF board member, film professor, and author Foster Hirsch will introduce the festival screenings. NOIR CITY opens with a double feature of Robert Siodmak's "Cry of the City", co-starring Victor Mature and Richard Conte, and Jules Dassin's "The Naked City", shot on location in New York City, starring Barry Fitzgerald. Five films will run on Saturday and four films will play on Sunday.

The second film of the day — Preston Sturges' black comedy "Unfaithfully Yours" also features an actor playing against type, Rex Harrison, as a murderous husband. riri x reader date at the fair? 💜reader trying their hardest to win prizes for riri stuff like that
ʜᴇʀᴇ'ꜱ ᴛᴏ ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ ɢʀᴏᴡɪɴɢ ᴜᴘ
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Characters: MCU!Riri Williams x Black!Fem!Reader
Type: Drabble
Synopsis: In which you and Riri spend a night at a winter festival on the northside, but your prize winning skills aren’t that great.
Warnings: some cursing but overall nothin but fluff!!
A/N: This is just something cute and short, wanted to finish the request while i had my spur-of-the-moment productivity burst. I’ll definitely be back with something longer for you guys!
Tumblr media
“Y’know, it’s okay to admit you ain’t got no game, (Y/N).”
“You’re not helping, Ri!”
Your words came out through gritted teeth as you tried to focus on the festival game ahead of you. It was a simple one in hindsight - a shooting game that involved knocking down three towers of cups in perfect succession. The reward, a big, stuffed teddy bear that hung in the corner of the vendors stall. While Riri was amused by your sheer determination to win something for her, the stall owner was slowly growing agitated by the fact that you were holding up the line. Though, in your defense, he did keep falling for your pleas of ‘one more time’, persuaded by the ten dollar bill that crossed the counter every time.
With a sigh, the vendor owner set up the cups for you one more time, and he reiterated that this would be the absolute last chance for you, because there were other people in line ready to play, and you were holding up business.
With skill acquired over the last thirty minutes at this stall, you hoisted the toy gun into shooting position, aiming at the first tower of cups. A clean shot rang out from the toy, and collided with the first tower, knocking it clean down. Then came the next shot, which, surprisingly, went down clean as well. With hesitation, you aimed for the third tower. You felt your heart rate speed up a it as you as you took the shot once more, immediately closing your eyes as you pulled the trigger.
After a moment of silence you peaked one eye open to see the results of your shot.
“You’re fucking kidding me?!” You shout at the sight of one measly red cup still standing in place. And while you would have went on a little tangent about the game being rigged, a frustrated vendor owner beckoned you and Riri off so they next customers could have a turn. The engineer takes you by your arm as you stuff your hands in your pockets, defeated, and the two of you walk on through the festival grounds.
“Hey, it’s okay babe,” Riri begins, slidding her arm through the opening of yours, linking the two of you together, “so what if you didn’t win that bear for me….or the turtle….or the oversized candy cane-”
“Aye, that game was rigged, I don’t give a fuck what that lady was sayin’-” you interject, in reference to the wack-a-mole game of which you lost in as well. You really wanted to win that turtle plushie for Riri - it was probably the most adorable one out of all the teddies you scouted out.
“-buuuuut, it’s okay, cuz guess what?”
“Mmm, what?”
Riri didn’t say anything, and as you were turning your head to face her, your lips met first. It was a soft, quick peck, one of encouragement and cheer. “You’re still a winner to me, baby.”
And maybe you weren’t able to win any prizes that evening at the festival, but having Riri by your side was enough of a reward for the both of you.

Darlinghurst celebrates Mardi Gras with Oxtravaganza!

Darlinghurst celebrates Mardi Gras with Oxtravaganza!
Tumblr media
Oxtravaganza, a Darlinghurst-wide fringe festival celebrating the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, is back again for its 8th incarnation in 2024!
The Oxtravaganza Festival is centred around Oxford Street and Sydney’s Rainbow Precinct, but stretches out across Darlo and into Surry Hills and Kings Cross.
This year this ‘festival-within-a-festival’ will run from the 16th February until the 3rd March.
“Oxtravaganza pulls out all the stops,” says Festival Curator Lorraine Lock.
“I mean it’s not unusual to find something happening on Oxford Street on any night of the week, but Oxtravaganza and Mardi Gras ramp it up to another level!”
There are two weeks of events including art exhibitions, an Art Walk, live performances, the Darlo Big Drag Brunch, retail deals, a dedicated Family Zone with storytelling, face painting, kids goodie bags, the ever popular Shop till You Drop, and more.
Something is happening every night of the week from drag shows and cabaret, to book readings and sweaty disco nights. There will also be nude drawing classes, a design market, and activations at the Sydney Design Centre and Sydney Jewish Museum.
And of course, this all builds towards the finale of Parade Night, a glittering glamorous celebration of our LGBTQIA+ community and the rowdiest party that Oxford Street gets to host each year!
All around Darlinghurst a host of businesses are putting on their sparkle for Oxtravaganza in 2024, including galleries, restaurants, small bars, pubs, clubs and retailers.
“We’re also lucky to have the National Art School and the Australian Museum on our doorstep,” says Lock, “plus a host of smaller galleries in the immediate neighbourhood.”
“Art is a big deal and such a huge part of our history!”
This year also sees the opening of the Qtopia Sydney Centre for Queer History and Culture, a hugely anticipated conversion of the old Darlinghurst Police Station into a queer museum and events space.
Qtopia Sydney will also be programming The Bandstand in Green Park, and The Substation and toilet block on Taylor Square (all heritage listed buildings) as cultural and performances spaces on the northside of Oxford Street.
All up, there will be around 100 different events across 40 venues that span the length and breadth of Darlinghurst. Reason enough to start marking your diary for 2024!
HIGHLIGHTS OF OXTRAVAGANZA INCLUDE :
DARLO BIG DRAG BRUNCH – Saturday 24 February Darlinghurst does Drag Brunch better than anywhere else in Sydney! Restaurants, bars and cafes will be hosting their own Drag Brunch, not just on Oxford St but right across Darlo. Some venues will offer bottomless deals every day of the week!
PHOTO EXHIBITION – 16 Feb till 3 March Featuring the “best of Oxtravaganza” from years gone by plus a series of portraits of local faces. Look out for theses amazing pics in the windows of local businesses. You may see a friend or two!
SHOP TILL U DROP – Saturday 24 February Retail deals and performance at key stores and galleries. There will be dj’s, discounts, drag queens, giveaways and more. Join us for a shopping spree like no other!
FAMILY ZONE – Saturday 24 February Drag story time and craft activities for kids and rainbow families. Just a stone’s throw from Oxford Street at the East Sydney Community and Arts Centre (ESCAC), but less hectic for the little ones. Fairy floss, goodie bags, make-up, stories, painting and more.
THE HUBS – 16 February – 3 March Darlo is a lot more than just Oxford Street. There are other hubs to be explored like the Rainbow Precinct, Hollywood Quarter, Stanley Street, the Glittering Mile, all within a short stroll from Taylor Square or the CBD.

Throwback: Happy 66th Birthday, Grandmaster Flash!
Throwback: Happy 66th Birthday, Grandmaster Flash! @DJFlash4eva
The pioneering and legendary Grandmaster Flash celebrates his 66th birthday today. Grandmaster Flash is especially important because his Quick Mix Theory, which saw him elongating drum breaks through the use of duplicate copies of albums. That technique eventually gave birth to cutting and scratching, an important part of hip-hop. I saw Grandmaster Flash play at Northside Festival back in 2016…
