i want your ice cream
buddie | 1k | (read on ao3.)
🍦🍦🍦
“You should ask my dad on a date.”
Eddie turns his head towards his son with his eyes wide open, “Christopher!”
Chris looks as pleased as punch when he smiles at Eddie before he begins walking towards the bench closest to them. When he’s four steps away, he turns around to say over his shoulder, “Bring me my ice cream after you say yes to Buck, Dad. And you’re welcome.”
The hot Los Angeles sun is beating down on Eddie’s shoulders and head, but he’s not naive enough to think he can pass the blush climbing up his necks, cheeks, and nose on it.
For a second, Eddie debates just running as fast as his legs will allow him to, getting as far away as he can before he stops. But as much as Christopher is the most meddlesome kid in the history of all children, that is Eddie’s meddlesome kid, and he loves him with his whole heart, so at some point he would have to come back to pick him up again and that just seems like more trouble than it’s worth.
Also, he has already paid for both his and Christopher’s ice creams, and he’s not big on wasting money. With a sigh, then, Eddie turns back towards the ice cream truck.
The sight of Buck holding two ice cream cones in his hands with the biggest smile Eddie has ever seen anyone wear is worth having stayed right here, right now.
“So a date, huh?” Buck asks, a blush of his own coloring his face.
He is so endearing that Eddie feels his fingers tingling with the need to tangle themselves in the mess of Buck’s curls, or bop his nose, or tug at his earlobes. He is so hot that Eddie’s mouth salivates with the desire to bite his neck, or taste his skin, or leave a mark in the place where his t-shirt tan lines are more visible on his biceps despite the fact that Eddie has never seen him wear anything but tank tops in the 3 months they have known each other.
“I… may or may not have been complaining for weeks to Chris that with him starting school soon again this fall we wouldn’t be able to see you as often,” Eddie says, feeling daringly brave and paralyzingly terrified all at once. “He… may or may not think asking you out would ensure we can see you as often as we like even after summer is over.”
“And what do you think?” Buck looks shy as he asks the question. He’s gazing at Eddie from under his eyelashes, but Eddie can tell he’s not trying to appear flirty or seductive. A shadow of vulnerability looms behind him as he bites his bottom lip.
Eddie holds onto his bravery and pushes his fear aside.
“I think it’s not exactly recommended by nutritionists to feed ice cream to your kid almost once a day just so you have an excuse to talk to the guy that you like,” Eddie says. “I think that you’ve become the highlight of my day since we moved to LA. I think that I want to know what you look like somewhere other than a beach. Maybe in a restaurant tomorrow night at 9pm. I think I want to know what you think.”
Buck’s smile is back to shining full force at Eddie. The shadow of his insecurities has been vanished somewhere where Eddie hopes it will die a painful death. Now, Buck just seems happy, and light.
“I think I must have done something incredibly right in a past life to be able to bag myself the hot surfer with an adorable kid that I have been pining after for the whole summer,” Buck says with a chuckle.
“Buck…” Eddie groans as he shakes his head. “I’m a terrible surfer.”
“Oh, I know that, Eds,” Buck says, laughing wholeheartedly this time. “That’s why I said hot surfer and not great surfer. Chris is a million times better than you.
“Well, that’s why I hired us both our own surfing instructors,” Eddie explains as he crosses his arms. “So we both could get better at our own paces.”
“Please,” Buck says with a scoff. “You did it so he wouldn’t keep showing you up like he did that first day back in May. He was a natural and you fell so many times my own body started hurting in sympathy.”
Eddie uncrosses his arms to rest them on the window opening of the ice cream truck as he tilts his head, “That was before we even came to get ice cream after our second class. You— You noticed me then?”
“It’s impossible not to notice you.” Buck shrugs, leaning forward to get closer to Eddie. “I’ve wanted to ask you out all summer long but you’re a client so…”
“Oh, I get it,” Eddie says, the corner of his mouth tilting up, his eyes focusing on Buck’s lips for a second before catching Buck’s gaze again. “You’ve been using me for my money.”
Buck exhales a chuckle through his nose, and Eddie feels the cool air of it on his face. “You’ve caught me. I can pay for our date tomorrow to make up for it.”
“Deal,” Eddie says before he closes the last few inches between them and captures Buck’s lips in a kiss.
During this summer, Eddie has basically tried all of the ice cream flavors that have been offered in Bobby’s Frosted Delight Ice Cream Truck. Buck is still the sweetest thing he has tasted.
“Tomorrow at 9?” As he speaks, his lips move against Buck’s.
“Tomorrow at 9,” Buck confirms, pecking Eddie’s lips three time before pulling away.
It’s only when he’s walking back to the car next to Chris, their surfboards under both of Eddie's arms, that Christopher says, “Dad, I’m happy you and Buck finally figured it out, but you forgot our ice creams.”
Eddie laughs. “Don’t worry, bud. I think there will be many, many more ice creams in our future.”

Grace Kelly in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California photographed by her dear friend Howell Conant in the fall of 1955. She was working on THE SWAN (1956), shot at MGM Studios in Hollywood. Grace rented a property in the Hollywood Hills from Gayelord Hauser, a renowned nutritionist at the time. He was known as a “doctor of natural science,” promoting foods rich in B vitamins and discouraging the consumption of sugar and white flour. Hauser was a nutritionist to several Hollywood stars, including Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo, and even Grace. She maintained her figure by eating whole foods and prioritizing nutrition, especially during her acting career. Nonetheless, she was naturally beautiful and photogenic, as this photograph proves.

Jack and Esme's arrangement was fairly new and he was still learning her needs, but there were several ways he could support her given the connections and wealth that came with his exclusive gym that gave high society in Los Angeles a discreet place to work out, train for films, and meet with nutritionists. "Lock the door behind you, Sugar." He hardly looked up from the papers he was scouring knowing no one except Esme would dare to enter into his office without knocking. Jack held out his hand for her, smacking the laptop closed the moment her hand was in his. Immediately his demeanor softened and he pulled her into his arms, wrapping them tightly around the top of her thighs and pinning her to his body. He nipped and tugged at the fabric covering the swell of her breasts and drank in the fresh scent of her body wash. "Did you have a nice workout, Babygirl? Meet some new people?"
As he spoke, his hands massaged her thighs, moving down behind her knees and spreading her legs until she was straddling one of his thighs, "Sit." His deep voice was commanding, firm but soft. Jack's palms worked up Esme's thighs, paying expert attention to the tight spots before he moving around her back. "Did I tell you I get invitations to shit all the time from my clients? I don't usually use them, but I think you can show me you know how to be a good girl. Do that and we can go to this fancy ass premier and after party. Does that sound like something you want to do?" With a raised eyebrow, he rocked her hips on his thigh and leaned back, watching her with his hands locked behind his head. She was otherworldly levels of attractive and Jack regularly liked to pause and drink her in, already picturing Esme dolled up and charming the directors and producers while wearing the vibe he'd ordered.

name : jordan mateo sanz nicknames : jm, jordy gender & pronouns : cis man, he / him age & date of birth : 44 ( september 28, 1978 ) hometown : los angeles, ca occupation :  podcast host / television personality / actor sexuality : bisexual faceclaim :  santiago cabrera career claims: dax shepard ( armchair expert ) & carson daly
trigger warnings: mentions of an eating disorder and substance abuse.
BIOGRAPHY
jordan started his career in hollywood acting in small-time roles or as a background extra for tv shows from childhood throughout his early adolescence. his father was a gaffer and his mother a set designer, so having ties to the industry through his parents was the leg up that helped jordan secure his first auditions.
his first major tv appearance was on a star search-esque program on mtv featuring talented teens from all over the country. though he didn't get the top prize, jordan's charisma and quick wit had him becoming a fan favorite. the network producers were well aware of his popularity among viewers and just a year after this stint, he was signed on to host total request live, continuing to do so well into his late twenties.
for the better part of at least two decades, the name 'jm sanz' was almost synonymous to pop culture. it was just so easy to associate his name to all these celebrities, even when he moved on to hosting other programs (most notably the voice on nbc) and even tried to make his own name in his feature film debut for a supporting role in an indie film that has become something of an unexpected cult hit as it made the festival circuits.
though he wasn't a backstreet boy nor was he mmmbop-ing his way up the charts, he was not spared from the scrutinizing eye of his audience, either, forcing him into a difficult relationship with food and the way he looked after his body.
what alarmed not only his fans but also anyone who even remotely browsed the tabloids was how often his appearance changed in public, how he would gain weight and lose it just as quickly. this how he would have to be relieved by a guest host every now and then due to rumored 'hospital visits' until he was permanently replaced aroused suspicion from spectators about the state of jordan's mental health.
then there were the rumors that he'd lost his apartment, was allegedly homeless somewhere in LA, was no longer on speaking terms with his family. he'd just fallen off the grid after that.
the years he'd been flying under the radar are all muddled in his head. there was a lot of pain involved. a lot of hurting people, hurting himself. despite the falling out with his family, he was lucky he found a steady stream of support from friends who managed to pull him out of the dark place he had been in. he checked himself into rehab for his substance abuse issues and started seeing a therapist as well as a nutritionist so he can start taking care of his body, something which he'd openly claimed to never having done before even when he looked 'fit'.
somewhere towards the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, photographs would surface of an older, somewhat healthier jordan walking his dog in santa monica or selfies of fans with him in coffee shops and broadway shows and comic cons. then he presented an award at the vma's in his first tv appearance in something like ten years followed by a guesting at an old friend and former co-host's talk show where he opened up about his past and before anyone knew it, jm sanz was making his comeback.
he started a podcast in 2021 where he would talk about film, music, tv, games, and generally all things pop culture with celebrity guests, a lot of whom were, like him, popular in the 90s and 2000s and had been forgotten about. he'd also recently started a health and wellness podcast called headstart which he hosts with a professional life coach and psychologist in what he describes as a 'full circle journey' and a way of paying it forward.
in 2023, he got engaged to his on-and-off partner of seven years. there isn't a set date for the wedding yet as he and his partner are still working out some stuff between them and jordan is secretly having second thoughts, what with his history of failed relationships but doesn't know how to voice out his apprehensions just yet.
TIMELINE
1998 - age 20, started hosting total request live.
2007 - age 29, total request live airs its final episode.
2008 - age 30, stars in his first feature film. gets married to his first wife.
2009 - age 31, starts hosting the voice. gets divorced.
2010 - age 32, gets engaged just months after his divorce. calls it off just three weeks later.
2012 - age 33, makes his last tv appearance on the voice before going on a decade-long hiatus.
[the missing years, tbd]
2021 - age 42, hosts the vmas. it's his first tv appearance in 9 years. starts his podcast, armchair expert.
2022 - age 43, starts a health & wellness podcast called headstart.
2023, may - age 44, gets engaged for a third time.
SUGGESTED CONNECTIONS
ex-wife. they're a lot more amicable now tho their relationship was filled with spite towards the end of their relationship.
best friend, helped him start his journey towards healing and recovery. also probably let him crash on their couch while he was homeless for a lil while.
celebrities who have been on armchair expert.
someone he'd shared a journey in showbiz with. probably lost touch over the years but have recently reconnected ( or about to reconnect? )
90s/2000s artists who've been on total request live. would be interesting to find kindred spirits who've gone on a downward spiral but have now recovered / are recovering and they can look back on the good ol' days that they probably don't miss lol.
someone he'd publicly had beef with in the past a la taylor v kanye, most likely due to his rude and chaotic statements before he got sober.
someone he's had a big crush on.
someone who's had a big crush on him.
someone he was romantically linked with only via tabloids and they laugh about it but 👀 it won't be the worst thing in the world tbh??

USC embrace chance to compete in Big Ten
Tumblr media
The USC Trojans have begun their first season in the Big Ten Conference with something to prove and a bit of a chip on their shoulder. While their level of competition rises, the team views this as an opportunity rather than a challenge. They checked all the boxes during their first test of the season, beating LSU in a highly entertaining 27-20 game at Allegiant Stadium. After taking down one of the top teams in the SEC, they look more than ready to contend for a title in their new conference this year. The Big Ten is known for power, while the Pac-12 Conference was more historically associated with finesse. There will certainly be an adjustment period for the Trojans, facing teams bigger teams like Michigan and Notre Dame, but they have been preparing for this reality all offseason.
Tumblr media
USC linebacker Mason Cobb (13) makes a tackle on a San Jose State runner during a college football game played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Aug. 26, 2023. Photo credit: Sammy Saludo/News4usonline "Going into the new conference, we knew that we had to get bigger and stronger. Coach Riley and his team did a great job along with the nutritionists, and every single guy who had a target weight hit that weight," said new defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn. "The Big Ten is a bigger, more physical conference, so going into that conference, you naturally had to do that." USC brings an underrated group of playmakers, a revamped defense, and a Lincoln Riley system that has proven successful in multiple conferences. In five years at Oklahoma, a Riley-led team never lost more than two games in a season. The defense already looks levels above how they did during Riley's first two seasons in Los Angeles. The Trojans made several key stops in the fourth quarter when they desperately needed to get the offense back on the field, something that would not have happened in years past. WHAT A WIN. 1-0.#FightOn | @WellsFargo pic.twitter.com/dLwiZJ1xqT— USC Football ?? (@uscfb) September 2, 2024 "I have been through this before. When I was at Missouri, we moved from the Big 12 to the SEC. Football is football. It is what it is. The guy in front of you is the guy in front of you," said offensive coordinator Josh Henson. "Football is football" seems to be the theme for the Trojans as they enter this new era. At the end of the day, they are a program that has always lured in top-tier talent, and having good ball players translates to any conference, no matter the perceived skill level. USC ranks near the top of college football recruiting year in and year out, and they are said to have the No. 3 class in the NCAA for 2025. They will be just fine in terms of the players they put on the field and whether or not they can compete. "It is not necessarily that we are going against big names; these are well-known schools, but at the end of the day, it is just a new opportunity for us. We are going to go about each game and each step the same way," said defensive back Akili Arnold. dub scenes?? pic.twitter.com/Sraq7ArC89— USC Football ?? (@uscfb) September 2, 2024 Since 2000, the Trojans have gone 12-3 against Big Ten teams and are 69-29-2 all-time. Even when looking at just bowl games, which come against the best teams in the conference, they are 19-11. USC is ready for the challenge, and quite frankly, it would be more surprising if they were not successful than if they were. "I haven't been paying attention to all the criticism, but obviously, there are expectations that are going to be held this upcoming year, and it is about just going out there and doing it," said defensive lineman Nate Clifton. They must get used to bigger linemen, run-heavy schemes, colder weather, and smash-mouth football. However, the Big Ten will also have to get used to a different level of speed and tempo that teams like USC and Oregon will bring to the conference. "I love to hit, I love to go against bigger guys; that is a challenge for me," said linebacker Mason Cobb. "Let's do it." Chris Geere and Aya Cash in You're the Worst (2014) Pilot
S1E1
It begins with a self-centered Los Angeles writer named Jimmy (British actor Chris Geere) who is at the wedding of an ex-girlfriend and pouting about it by taking pictures of his genitals with the gift cameras meant for the guests. After getting tossed from the affair, he meets Gretchen (Aya Cash), a self-destructive publicity agent for a record label.
The two have what they believe is a one-night stand involving a lot of sex. At one point during their tryst she tells him she’s not attracted to him. His response is, “What does that have to do with anything?” With a shrug she agrees and they continue having sex. There is also much self-confession during the night about all the rotten things they have done. Neither of them comes off as particularly admirable, but there is something oddly likable about their attempts to prove their hardheartedness...
*Killian: Hi.Jimmy: What?Killian: I just moved in... over there.Jimmy: Of course you did.Killian: Why do you say that?Jimmy: Because the death of any interesting neighborhood is the influx of white procreators.Killian: Oh, that's cool. My nutritionist is gay too.Jimmy: I'm not gay. I'm English...

Holistic Healing: Combining Hypnotherapy with Other Wellness Practices
In the bustling city of Los Angeles, where stress and fast-paced living are a common part of life, many people seek holistic approaches to wellness. Among the array of healing modalities, hypnotherapy stands out as a powerful tool for transformation. When combined with other wellness practices, hypnotherapy can enhance the overall healing process, providing a comprehensive approach to well-being. Let's explore how integrating hypnotherapy with other wellness practices can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life.
Tumblr media
 Understanding Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses guided relaxation and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness, often referred to as a trance. In this state, individuals are more open to suggestions, making it an effective method for addressing various issues such as anxiety, stress, phobias, and even chronic pain. Hypnotherapists in Los Angeles are trained to help clients access their subconscious mind, where deep-seated beliefs and patterns reside, to facilitate positive change.
 The Power of Holistic Healing
Holistic healing is an approach that considers the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—in the quest for optimal health and wellness. It emphasizes the interconnectedness of all aspects of a person's life and seeks to promote balance and harmony. By combining hypnotherapy center with other wellness practices, individuals can experience a synergistic effect that enhances their healing journey.
Integrating Hypnotherapy with Mindfulness and Meditation
Mindfulness and meditation are powerful practices that promote mental clarity, emotional stability, and overall well-being. When combined with hypnotherapy, these practices can deepen the therapeutic experience. Mindfulness helps individuals stay present and aware, making them more receptive to the positive suggestions given during hypnotherapy sessions. Meditation, on the other hand, can help maintain the relaxed state achieved during hypnotherapy, reinforcing the benefits over time.
 Combining Hypnotherapy with Yoga
Yoga is a holistic practice that integrates physical postures, breath control, and meditation. It promotes physical health, mental clarity, and emotional balance. When hypnotherapy is combined with yoga, the benefits are amplified. The physical relaxation achieved through yoga can prepare the body for the deep mental relaxation of hypnotherapy. Additionally, the focus on breath control in yoga complements the guided relaxation techniques used in hypnotherapy, enhancing the overall effectiveness.
Nutrition and Hypnotherapy: A Synergistic Approach
Nutrition plays a crucial role in overall health and wellness. A balanced diet provides the necessary nutrients for the body and mind to function optimally. Hypnotherapy can support nutritional wellness by addressing unhealthy eating habits, reducing cravings, and promoting a positive relationship with food. For instance, a hypnotherapist in Los Angeles might work with a nutritionist to create a comprehensive plan that addresses both the mental and physical aspects of weight management.
The Role of Acupuncture in Enhancing Hypnotherapy
Acupuncture, an ancient Chinese healing practice, involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body to promote energy flow and balance. When combined with hypnotherapy, acupuncture can enhance relaxation and reduce stress, creating an optimal environment for therapeutic change. The calming effects of acupuncture can complement the mental relaxation achieved during hypnotherapy, making it easier for individuals to enter a trance state and respond to positive suggestions.
 Chiropractic Care and Hypnotherapy
Chiropractic care focuses on the alignment of the spine and nervous system to promote overall health. By addressing physical misalignments and reducing pain, chiropractic care can improve the effectiveness of hypnotherapy. When the body is free from pain and tension, it is easier to achieve the deep relaxation needed for hypnotherapy. Additionally, the mental clarity and improved focus resulting from chiropractic adjustments can enhance the therapeutic process.
 Creating a Comprehensive Wellness Plan
Combining hypnotherapy with other wellness practices requires a thoughtful and personalized approach. It’s essential to work with practitioners who are open to collaboration and have experience in integrative healing. A comprehensive wellness plan might include regular hypnotherapy sessions, yoga classes, mindfulness meditation, nutritional counseling, acupuncture treatments, and chiropractic care. This multi-faceted approach addresses all aspects of health and well-being, promoting long-lasting change and balance.
 Conclusion
In the vibrant and health-conscious city of Los Angeles, holistic healing offers a pathway to profound personal transformation. By combining hypnotherapy with other wellness practices, individuals can experience a more comprehensive and effective approach to healing. Whether you are looking to reduce stress, manage pain, or improve overall well-being, integrating these practices can help you achieve your health goals and lead a more balanced and fulfilling life. Embrace the power of holistic healing and discover the synergy that comes from combining hypnotherapy with other wellness modalities.

7.25.2024
it's boiling hot in los angeles. it's boiling hot everywhere in the northern hemisphere, presumably. I try not to think about climate change too much, I was a vegetarian for three and a half years until my chronic illnesses got so out of hand that a nutritionist was like dude you have to eat meat so now I eat chicken and my symptoms are much more manageable and even still, my vegetarianism was not saving the planet, I know this.
I have two crushes. life really does shimmer with much more purpose when you have a crush. the shimmer does not compound exponentially with each crush but it does allow me to do what I refer to as "diffusing my romantic energy," i.e. it prevents me from obsessing over one man. the two men are very different, except for the fact that they both take up tremendous physical space. I am rereading elif batuman's the idiot right now, among other texts I'm reading for the first time, and it's fascinating how much of the central love interest, Ivan, is defined by his large stature. I don't think his exact height is ever specified, but he is referred to at least once as a "seven foot tall Hungarian." neither of my crushes are seven feet tall (or Hungarian? though I can't be sure about that, I guess), but they are tall, and they are strong, much taller and much stronger than I could ever be. as a tall woman it is remarkable to be in the presence of men who are much larger than you, it doesn't happen very often, at least for me. gender is no binary, of course, and it's a performance, sure, but I find myself attuned to innate masculineness and femininity when I am around these large men. being friends with trans and nonbinary people has forced me to be critical of my own gender performance, and has made me endlessly curious about how I can make and remake femininity in my own image. anyway, it is very enjoyable for me to feel small among men, principally when I also feel safe among them.
I was having a flare of one of my chronic illnesses, or was it both, because one begets the other, in many ways...in order to manage my symptoms, I engage in intermittent fasting, or go a few days on a liquid diet, as it seems that my symptoms are exacerbated by the act of digestion. there is a poem there, but I am too tired to find it. ever since reintroducing meat into my diet, my flares are less intense and last for less time. but they haven't gone away. I eat an extremely restrictive diet, to the point that I cannot eat in restaurants and I prepare the same two meals for myself every day (it's rare I actually eat three). I have lost more weight than I ever managed to lose while trying to shrink myself on purpose. it is not the day at the beach that I anticipated. didn't I just speak about feeling small among men, yes, but to have shrunk this much can be frightening. I pass my reflection and marvel at how narrow I have become. my clothes are all too big. I am cold all the time. my bones stick out. and yet. I know that women watch me and covet me. I know because I used to do the same thing. I know there are women who would do almost anything to be this thin. they don't realize I would do almost anything to give it back.
anyway, the flare is ending, for now. chronic illness is weird. I want a better adjective for it. it's an exercise in recognizing your own stupidity, your cliched cognitive distortions. whatever is currently happening to you, you think it is going to be happening to you forever. when I am bedridden and fatigued and shaking and itchy and howling in pain, I worry this is what every day will be like. when I am clean and clear and light and flat and empty, I forget that I have ever known pain. when you are sick, you think you are dying. when you are well, you pretend you have been cured. it has been this way for me for three years; is there a point, I wonder, at which you understand the definition of the word chronic? when you truly engage with what it means to lapse and relapse, to remit and recur and over and over again because there is no cure for this and there is no finish line and sometimes your body will go quiet and sometimes it will be loud so loud you cannot hear anything else. will it be when I'm in my thirties, my forties. will I have a baby and will my immune system reset itself and finish with this painful business for good. I don't know. no one knows. your bloodwork looks good.
for the first time in a while I have hope about politics. I am not kamala's biggest fan. I am sure that during her administration I will be horrified, repulsed, devastated by the choices she and her staff make about our country and about the world. and yet. I believe that her presidency could have so much light in it. so much possibility. at a minimum, I brighten at the thought of my career cresting in time to sing at a harris white house. I was a little mixed race girl once, too. I wanted to be the president, then, when I didn't know what it meant to be the president. I do however want to be the mayor of los angeles. fleets of electric buses to make driving unfashionable so that we can then build out the metro. slashing the police budget and giving it to education. rent control and a UBI in the hopes of lifting the unhoused off the streets and the impoverished out of poverty. bringing back sweet little trollies because they are so cute. promise you'll vote for me, I'll see you at the ballot box in 15 years.

How to choose a rehab center in los angeles that is right for you
When you are looking for a rehab center in Los Angeles for yourself or a loved one, there’s no doubt that it can be an overwhelming and emotional process. Not all rehab centers are safe or effective and many are taking advantage of the continued opioid crisis by using unsafe treatment measures. For that reason, you need to be more sure than ever that you’ve chosen the right place to meet your needs. Here are some tips as you make your selection.
Check for Licensing, Certifications and Accreditation of the Rehab Center in Los Angeles If a rehab center is reputable, it will be properly recognized, usually by the Joint Commission or the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Accreditation by either entity relies on performance standards at the rehab center, quality and value, as well as demonstrated success in treating patients for substance abuse. Furthermore, rehab centers should be certified to operate. Failure to produce licenses, certifications and accreditations should be a red flag that a rehab center might not be the best choice.
Staff Credentials and Licenses In addition to the rehab center itself needing to be properly certified, the clinical staff at the center must also be appropriately licensed. This tells you that they have been trained and have the experience necessary to assist you or your loved one during recovery. Some credentials to look for include:
LADC – Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor LPC – Licensed Professional Counselor CAC – Certified Addictions Counselor CCDP – Certified Co-occurring Disorders Counselor Multidisciplinary Treatment Team To ensure the best quality of care, you should look for a rehab center that offers a collective team of professionals who can help you with your recovery from all angles. This includes your physical recovery, as well as your emotional and mental recovery. These staff members should collaborate to create a customized treatment plan that best suits your needs. Your care team should consist of the following professionals:
Counselor trained in substance dependency Medical doctor Nurse Nutritionist or dietician Wellness expert Psychiatrist Psychologist Counselor trained in spiritual care Evidence-Based Practices Evidence-based practices are those that have been proven to provide effective and positive results when treating addiction. They are backed by research and science. Examples include the twelve step method, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), medication therapies, and others.
Other Important Considerations Beyond the above mentioned things to be on the lookout for, there are some other factors that should play a role in your decision to choose a rehab center or not. They include the following:
Mental health services – for patients with co-occurring mental health disorders Success rates/outcomes Acceptance of insurance Detox and medication therapies Customized programs to meet the needs of a variety of patients Length of the program Post-treatment support Support for families of the patient Don’t be afraid to get the answers to all of your questions before you choose a specific rehab program.
The premier care offered at Canon Human Services Centers, Inc. far surpasses that of any other rehab center in Los Angeles. Contact us today to find out what we can do for you or your loved one.

Why Holistic Drug Rehab is Changing the Way People Get Better
Holistic recovery is a new way of looking at health care, just like dawn is a sign of a new day. In the past, relieving symptoms has been the main goal, but that is starting to change. Especially in the field of drug treatment, people are starting to understand that treating a person means more than just fixing their physical problems. It's a way of looking at how the mind, body, and spirit work together. One might wonder why and how holistic drug rehab is making waves in a huge city like Los Angeles. So, let's take this trip together.
A Holistic Approach to Healing
"Holistic" is not just a new word that you see in health magazines or ads for high-end retreats. It is a belief and a promise to see a person as a whole person. Think of a person as a puzzle. One piece might show signs of addiction, while other pieces might show signs of trauma, stress, social stresses, or even a spiritual disconnect.  Traditional drug rehab only looks at that one piece of the puzzle. Holistic drug rehab, on the other hand, looks at the whole picture and how each piece fits together. It's important to know that people have many different sides, or pieces if you will. People laugh, cry, dream, and worry. Not only are our memories physical, but they are also strongly rooted in our minds and hearts. Addiction can be caused by the scars of past tragedies, the stress of present challenges, and the uncertainty of the future. A holistic method takes these links into account and aims to heal rather than just treat.
Top Benefits of a Holistic Approach
The holistic approach to healing is not just a technique; it is a process. It's a journey of finding yourself again, learning more about yourself, and coming out better. We’ll talk about some of the reasons why holistic treatment is great for recovery. We all know that every person’s history is different and with that in mind. One-size-fits-all treatment plans don't work for everyone. Holistic drug rehab takes into account that everyone is different. Our team of professionals makes care plans that fit each person's wants and problems by doing thorough evaluations.
Focus On Mental And Emotional Healing
The mind and its contents are a very big and complex place. One person might use drugs to get away from reality, while another might be dealing with sadness or PTSD. Holistic treatments like counseling, art therapy, and writing are meant to give people a safe place to get their feelings out.
Integration of Alternative Therapies
One of the best things about the holistic method is that it can be used in many different ways. Holistic drug rehab such as Conquer Recovery uses yoga, aquatic therapy, dance, and ground and family therapy, among other things, to take care of every part of a person. We even take into account the dietary aspect of recovery. Giving your body the right nutrients, getting it moving, and using routines like yoga or meditation can speed up your healing by a lot.  As far as spiritual reconnection, we also take an emphasis on that. The rocky path of addiction often causes people to lose touch with their spiritual side. It is very important to get this link back together. Holistic rehab helps people find peace of mind, whether it's through meditation, trips to nature, or spiritual therapy.
Leading the Revolution in Holistic Recovery
Los Angeles is known for its glitz and hustling. It is also home to some of the first people to work on holistic health, and Conquer Recovery is happy to be one of them. So, how is Conquer different from other holistic drug rehab centers? First of all, Conquer Recovery's commitment to total healing isn't just a claim; it's how we do business. We have doctors, nutritionists, spiritual counselors, fitness coaches, and more on our team. The center believes in the power of caring for each person as an individual, making sure that everyone feels seen, heard, and understood. We know that addiction is often a symptom of greater problems that aren't being dealt with. So, we don't just use their resources to treat the symptoms; we also try to find and deal with the root reasons. Every story from Conquer Recovery's testimonials is not just about getting better, but also about a big change in the person's life.
The Odyssey of Wholesome Recovery
To understand what holistic drug rehab is all about, we need to know that addiction is a cry for help from the whole person. Not only does the body want drugs, but the mind and spirit are also looking for peace, knowledge, and health. By taking into account these complex connections, the holistic method changes the way people get better. In the middle of busy Los Angeles, Conquer Recovery is a safe place for people who want to heal completely. Our center's goal isn't just to treat symptoms; it's also to figure out what they mean as signs of bigger problems. And in this understanding lies the hope of real recovery, a journey of not just beating addiction but also finding oneself. As holistic drug rehab continues to change the way people think about recovery, Conquer Recovery is at the front of the pack, changing what it means to really get better.

The Impact of Raw Vegan Foods on Bone Density & Osteoporosis Prevention
Tumblr media
Vegan diet and the risk of osteoporosis is a topic that has attracted the opinion of many experts. They say that if a vegetarian diet contains foods with the amount of protein needed by the body, they can also keep one's bones strong. Meanwhile, researchers believe that people who follow a vegan diet are at risk of bone fractures, especially hip fractures.
Researchers say that lower body mass index as well as calcium and protein deficiency can be risk factors for osteoporosis in these people. Vegetarians can keep their bones strong by consuming vitamins D and B12, as well as eating meat-free foods that contain a healthy amount of protein.
People who don't eat meat, especially vegetarians, may be at risk of breaking bones. Researchers from Oxford University in England reported that vegans are 43% more prone to bone fractures. Also, in some areas, such as hip fracture, the risk of fracture is higher in them.
Studies have shown that people who follow vegetarian diets are more at risk of fractures. According to these surveys, the most fractures were in the hip area. In such a way, the risk of hip fracture in vegans is 2.3 times higher than in people who eat meat.
This study, which is related to the vegan diet and the risk of osteoporosis, was published in the journal BMC Medicine. It analyzed the results of more than 54,000 people involved in the EPIC-Oxford study.
Among these 54,000 people, nearly 30,000 of them had a meat-eating diet. About 8000 people did not eat meat but ate fish. About 15,000 people were vegetarians and nearly 2,000 were vegans. The results of the survey showed that 3,994 fractures occurred among these people. Most fractures were in the hip area, followed by the wrist, arm, ankle and foot.
Vegetarians and people who eat fish but don't eat meat are at higher risk of hip fractures than their meat-eating counterparts, the researchers said. When body mass index (BMI), calcium, and protein intake are taken into account, this risk is somewhat reduced.
Previous studies have shown that low BMI is associated with hip fracture risk. Low intake of calcium and protein can both lead to weak bones. Based on these studies, vegans, who have an average lower BMI and less calcium and protein than meat eaters, have a higher risk of fractures in several areas of their body.
Balanced, mostly plant-based diets can lead to improved nutrient levels. They are even associated with reducing the risk of diseases, including heart disease and diabetes. People should consider the benefits and risks of their diet. They need to make sure they get the calcium and protein they need from their diet and maintain a healthy BMI and weight.
Lauri Y. Wright, PhD, assistant professor of nutrition and dietetics at the University of North Florida, explains why vegetarians are at risk for osteoporosis: "The root cause is partly related to protein and calcium intake, as well as BMI." But in people who follow a vegetarian diet, the consumption of these two is limited. Accordingly, the risk of bone fracture increases in them.
For example, vegetarians may have consumed adequate amounts of calcium. But many plant sources, such as spinach, do not contain as much calcium as dairy products. Vegetarians may have consumed adequate amounts of plant protein, but amino acids from plant sources are not as effective as animal proteins.
But, researchers say, a person may easily consume too much processed vegan junk food, which will have an adverse effect on health. However, when these people focus on whole, plant-based foods, they can reduce complications. People on a vegan diet can get the protein they need from soybeans, beans and whole grains, as well as nuts and seeds. B12 and vitamin D supplements are also recommended for health.
Dana Hones, PhD, is a senior nutritionist at the University of California, Los Angeles, and has been a vegetarian since 2001. Back then, it was much more difficult for vegans to find options for animal products that were fortified with essential vitamins and minerals, he says. But people who wanted to choose a vegan diet had to eat more fruits, vegetables and fortified foods. This is despite the fact that today there are many products that are composed of materials similar to animal products.
He says that choosing the right foods is important for vegetarians to stay healthy. People who want to choose this diet should create a balance between fresh products and some fortified products such as soy milk, almond milk or peanut milk. Even more of these products are enriched with calcium and vitamin D and other important nutrients.
He also advises vegetarians to exercise. even get vitamin D and calcium and consume enough calories.
A vegan diet consists of eating only plant-based foods. In this diet, people avoid consuming all animal products including meat, dairy and eggs. Some people do not even eat honey by following this diet. For some, being vegan is a dietary choice, while for others, it's a lifestyle.
