For that ask game
1, 2, 5, 6?
This one got long so I'm putting it under a read more! TYSM for asking these <3 The ask game
* Who was your first ever OC? Do you still “use” them? How have they evolved over time?
Technically Ian and Mikhail are tied for that though they weren't my first G/T OCs. I had this like running day dream for a while in high school and when I started writing again last year I wanted to still use them.
They started as these like all powerful beings of life and death (because high school me loved anime yes yes) Then I started making them sort of opposites. Mikhail always a bit of a brighter life with a worse power because he was death and Ian was always suffering because of others around him. Mikhail was always an older brother to Ian though.
Now they're human(or at least not anime level gods but who knows it could happen again), but I still like the idea of Mikhail having a way to protect Ian. So he's a size shifter and Ian's still sort of plagued by people and things around him.
My first GT OCs are Mira and Corus. They're kind based off dnd characters I played, but Mira's not evil and Corus isn't obliviously gullible. Also not a tiefling and a tritan. Their personalities changed more as I wrote them for GT since the dnd versions were more just namesake and general feel.
2. Who is your newest OC? Why did you make them?
Streya is the most recent OC! I have some others I haven't posted about yet since I'm still working out their story, but Streya was made after them.
She exists entirely because of GT July Cosmic prompt. I didn't have a cosmic giant and I wanted to write one. I didn't like the idea of putting and of my current ocs at cosmic level because their personalities didn't fit for it in my head.
Meg would be tied but she's actually a collab oc with @alarcomet!
5. What are some of your OCs biggest fears?(Melody, Delphia, Kyria, Mikhail, Ash)
Melody with heights for sure!
Delphia is actually terrified of water, it's a thing in every universe for her. It spawns from the first death in the seer and the gods story she consciously experiences.
Kyrie's afraid of being so big he can't really see the people he cares about (and hurts them by accident because of that)
Mikhail is afraid of losing the people he cares about because of who he is (an alien in that au, size shifter with some more predatory traits in og story)
Ash is scared of being too big and loud. They don't want to scare the people they care about
6. Do you have any OCs without stories? Will you ever create one for them?
Technically Evelyn and Conny. Evelyn is a human, Conny is an AI with a hard light body.
I have a general idea of their first story. Evelyn doesn't believe the claims that the AI have real emotions. Conny hates humans and thinks they all lie. They wind up together and that's part of what I'm still working out. Someday I'll write their story because I like the idea, but can't get it how I want it yet. I will not be abandoning them though!

Results of Expectations Part 1
This started as a streamer au for like all my ocs....then i decided to traumatize Mira. Yeah it's still kind of streamers and podcasts and stuff but it's very backend lol
TW: Panic, sort of panic attacks, a bit of dehumanization, IDK What else as always please tell me
Part 2 | Part 3
Results of Expectations Part 1
“Thanks for watching, we’ll pick this up next time! Signing off,” Mira smiled as she ended her stream.
It was always fun to have talks with her chat, but lately it’s just been questions about her size and what she looks like. It wasn’t like she was the only one who hid her size, but the others usually talked about things that gave good ideas. She laid her head on her arms, it was tiring. Her phone buzzed and lit up with a name that made her laugh. Ian should probably have changed handles from NervousGamer before streaming. She pulled her phone close and sent him the go ahead to call.
“Hey Ian,” she said, as soon as the call came through.
“Hey,” he chuckled, he was nervous. “How are you?”
“Ian, what’s on your mind? Talk to me!” She was putting on a begging act to get him to talk. She heard the deep sigh and knew she’d got him.
“I…Mik wants to tag along today. He’s worried since you don’t know if this guy is really human. He’d rather you get mad at him grabbing you and leaving than freeze up with a stranger… I would rather him go too.” He added the last part hastily.
“Ian… You and I both know I’ll be fine.” She could hear the lie in her own voice. Ian definitely heard it too. “I’ve been talking to Corus for months, there’s no way he’s a giant. He’s a human. He understood the stuff I’ve mentioned that only humans would. So there’s no reason for M-Mikhail to come with, at all.”
“Mira… you know he won’t hurt you. He’s like a really big brother. It’ll be fine. I’d go too and we’ll stay far away, even leave if he’s a human. Please?”
“Ian, trust me, I’ll be fine. I have to get ready anyway. I'll keep you updated, promise.”
She hung up quickly, trying to steady her hands. She had to get over everything for at least her family. They had giants in their lives and she couldn’t just ignore them. She could at least see them and keep going instead of freezing up. She closed her eyes and took some deep breaths. She had to get ready and go to meet Corus. A human that didn’t know her history was going to be a fun change. He said he moved here a few months ago. Plus he seemed to get the whole no control and hands thing too which was nice. It helped that he was cute for sure.
Corus was antsy as Delphia helped to fix his hair. He was hopeless with fashion, but couldn’t risk looking like a mess today. He’d been counting the days to this meetup, Mira was great. He’d planned this day since they first did a video together. She had been so nervous at first, he never expected humans to be what got her comfortable. Delphia stepped away and seemed to be happy with her work. He stood up and turned to face her, pulling his shirt down again.
“How do I look Del?” he asked. She studied him for a minute.
“Like a mess, but I’ve done all I can. I can’t hide your natural messiness,” she laughed. He acted like she’d shot him, his tongue hanging out of his mouth and a frown on his face. He smiled quickly though, today was too important.
“Thanks again. I don’t think I’d have ever been ready for this without you.” He pulled her into a hug and she patted his back before pulling away.
“Did you do what I said?”
“I told you she’s a giant, it won't matter. There’s no way I misunderstood. She's funny, amazing, kind, I’m sure she’s beautiful too. This will be great.”
“Corus, neither of you ever asked and you set all of this up. Please tell me you listened at least. I thought Ash was a giant after talking with them. It would have been awful if I didn’t know Alessia was human and only planned for giants.”
“Don’t worry Del, I did listen at least. I made sure to pick the park to meet so there’s no chance of trouble from a building. I also planned for us to get food at one of the new places that have every table set for humans and giants. Nothing can go wrong.”
“Just be careful, and don’t be too grabby if she is a human. She may not spend a lot of time around giants when she’s a streamer.”
“I know-” He planned to say more, but his phone beeped. Her stream ended which means he has to go. He waved quickly before running out.
The park wasn’t far and he wanted to be early. He picked a bench that was about midway for either size. He hoped she was a giant, but he wouldn’t change how he felt if she were human. He had every intention to ask her on a real date today. If she said no then they continue on as friends, but he was hopeful. He stared at his phone waiting for the message that said she was on her way.
Mira did one last thorough check in her mirror. A simple black shirt with jeans. They were just two friends meeting, although she definitely wouldn’t mind misunderstanding and this being a date. She pulled her phone out and snapped the picture that would seal her fate. The first image she’d be sending of herself to someone outside her small circle in years. She typed out a quick here’s how I look today before sending. She almost screamed when she got a picture back. Corus sitting in the park, he looked great. She shoved her phone away before her doubts could stop her.
She had called a car to get her there. It wasn’t too far, but walking near giants was…a lot. She was lucky she didn’t have to go out around giants basically ever. If only the ones her family knew could leave her alone. She knew they meant well, but after the way Ian and Mikhail even became friends she didn’t want to risk knowing any. At least Ian felt safe around one and that one would go with him to meet and greets. She shook her head to clear her thoughts as the park came into view.
She hopped out quickly with a quiet thank you before rushing to the human side of the path. She just had to reach Corus before another giant showed up. If another human was around then the giant was less of a risk. She made her way to their meeting spot, panic hitting her when she noticed the large feet up ahead. She felt her breathing start to grow rapid, she just had to get to the spot and wait. She’d message Corus and he’d show up and she could be ok. It almost never mattered who it was, a human made her at least able to handle being near giants. She took a chance to look up, if it was Mikhail she was going to kill Ian.
She almost screamed when she got a look at the giant face. The face that was supposed to be meeting her. That should be on the human bench that was too close to the giant feet. She couldn’t breathe, tears started to pour from her eyes. She was shaking and couldn’t get her legs to move. The giant would see her, know it was her, and grab her. She had to leave, she needed to leave. She watched in fear as the giant foot ahead of her lifted slightly slamming back down. She yelped as she fell back, staring up in fear as the giant head slowly turned to look down.
Corus was starting to get nervous. She had said she lived close, she shouldn’t take too long. She hadn’t sent him anything, maybe she was a human? Close for them usually was a lot slower than giants. He tapped his foot, freezing when he heard a small yelp. He looked down and saw a human knocked over, he must have scared them. He kept his eyes on them as he turned and kneeled to check on them. They had strange hair, bright…lavender?
“Mira?” he asked excitedly. He was honestly confused, he was positive she was a giant. How did Delphia always know these things? He reached forward planning to help lift her back to her feet, but he noticed her shaking before he touched her. Did he almost hurt her? He changed plans, stopping with his hand just a bit above and ahead of her so she could use it to get up. “Are you ok?”
He felt small hands against his fingers, the gentle pressure of pushing against him. He took the hint pulling his hand back. He tried to smile at her, to look gentle. He knew some humans still had nerves around giants, but he could manage this. He didn’t know if he should try to get lower or if that would make her upset. He just wanted a chance, she was perfect and he didn’t want her to hate him. He pulled his hand completely away putting it on his knee. She was still shaking. He hoped she wasn’t crying.
“Hey, uh do you still want to go get lunch?” he tried. That seemed to set her off, he watched as she jumped to her feet and started backing away. “Mira I-”
She was running. He couldn’t go after her, it would only make things worse. He just sat there staring at the little human he desperately wanted to turn around and come back. He just watched as she ran out of the park, was he that bad? He pulled out his phone planning to message Delphia. He took another glance at her and saw the worst thing he could imagine. Mira was running into the human street with a car coming right at her. He acted without thinking.
Mira kept hearing the voices of back then. Talking around her how she was cute and her new sibling would be so happy. The awful month trapped with barely any food and water. Different memories as she kept her world barely together. Bruises that had faded burning with pain. She just ran, she had to get away from here as soon as possible. She wouldn’t let another giant hurt her like that. They were awful and painful and she just had to get away.
Next thing she knew there was a blaring horn and bright lights. She froze as she saw the car coming at her. She was going to die, she couldn’t get her legs to move. Then she was in something warm and firm that felt familiar and awful. She started thrashing immediately, she hated this. This was a bad thing, this was something to hurt her. She started crying before her world filled with light again. She was shaking as soon as she found the giant blue eyes staring down at her. She was frozen again, a giant had her. She’d be trapped again.
Before she even had time to think there was yelling. Then another hand that moved her in a way that made her feel even worse. Then she was wrapped in arms, arms her size. She slowly turned towards the body that pressed into her and saw a face she knew. Ian was here. She grabbed him tightly, shaking only a little less. She took a careful look around, hand they were on hand. She grabbed him tighter, her shaking getting to a worse level and her start. She was pretty sure he said something, but her heart was pounding in her ears. Giants had them, giants would hurt them. Giants would trap them and torture them and kill them and the giant was moving.
She pulled Ian as close as possible. He was supposed to be with a good one. He was still a kid. Then he was pulling her and she was forced to follow. Ian took her to the ground, they had to run. She pulled on him, but he pulled her back. He started leading her somewhere. This was Ian, he was good, he was trustworthy. She followed him, stumbling over her own feet as she moved. Ian would only lead them somewhere good.
“Why were you holding her?” the man asked. His green eyes looked like he could burn right through him. Corus tried to watch what happened with Mira and the other human, but this man stepped in front of him. “I asked why you were holding her?”
“Sorry if you missed it, but she almost got hit by a car,” Corus answered. The stranger’s gaze softened slightly before flaring up again.
“I highly suggest you do not contact her again.” Corus tried to look around them, but they put out a hand to hold him back.
The stranger glared at him, but he wasn’t about to walk away. She ran like he was some monster, nearly getting hit by a car doing so. She seemed terrified when he was holding her, but she had nearly died. He was at least going to check on her. Hopefully they could work something out, maybe another chance. He at least wanted to stay friends even if she had a problem with giants usually. He sighed before finally turning away, the stranger just glaring after him the whole time.
Ian’s hold helped ground her a lot. It took almost the entire walk home, but she seemed to start coming back to the present. She slowly loosened her death grip on Ian and he smiled at her as she did. He kept them walking, he even kept them from being close to the giant paths. He was too good to her. By the time they reached her home Ian was barely holding her hand, she’d pulled the contact away. He waited patiently as she opened the door for them, then helped her inside. He sat her down on her couch and then took a spot next to her, pulling her close so her head rested on his shoulder. They stayed like that for a long time before she felt safe to even think again.
“...I’m glad you both came even though I said no,” she whispered. She felt the arm around her shoulders tighten before starting to rub her arm.
“To be honest, Mik had said he couldn’t let you risk it. Especially not with how you reacted to just trying to meet him. I didn’t disagree,” Ian admitted. She curled in on herself a bit more, leaning into the hold of someone who made sense. Someone her size. “Mira what happened?”
“I was fine and then I got there and there was a giant where we were meeting. I was going to message him, but then I looked up and it was him…” She had to take deep breaths to stop from crying. He’d been terrifying. The images in her mind holding a sneer and reaching to pluck her from her life. “Then I fell and he heard and he looked. Then his hand was there and I was running. Then bright lights and a honking horn and then his eyes. Then another hand then arms then you then the ground. Now we’re here…now I’m barely sure this isn’t some nightmare and I’m still there.”
“It’s ok Mira, I’ll stay until you feel safe again. Do you want me to call the others too?” She nodded into his chest.
He excused himself to walk outside, and make the calls. She knew one was to Mikhail too. She should thank him, even if Corus was safe she never would have managed to say anything. She would have had to rely on him deciding to put her down or call a human for help. If he even knew any humans. Every thought she had made things worse, he could have taken her. It could have been just like back then. Ian came back in and had her lay her head in his lap. At least she had a family that was the right size to help.
“Del, it was awful,” Corus whined. He hadn’t known anyone else to call or even talk to, going straight to Delphia. She was with her partners right now, but he couldn’t just sit on this. “She saw me, acted like I was going to-to kill her or something. Then almost got herself killed and some other guy showed up, grabbed her out of my hand and sent her off with someone who could have been a complete stranger to her. The guy then acted like I’d committed some awful act for even bothering to look at her. He basically threatened me not to reach out again.”
“I was getting worried that might happen,” Delphia sighed. He barely heard the soft voice of Alessia over the line. “What was the handle for her streams again? You never did tell me…”
“I wasn’t telling you cause she hides who she is. I was hoping you’d wind up meeting her so I thought it would be best.” He sighed. Delphia was asking for a reason he didn’t think he’d like it. He flopped onto his bed before he answered. Something about this made him feel like he’d be upset. He could hear Ash’s voice now too. If they were speaking up it had to be pretty bad. “I was meeting PinkEyedMiracle.”
“I knew it,” Alessia’s voice came through loudly. For someone so tiny she never failed to almost blow out his eardrums. “Look none of us can or will get into it, but there was no way that was going to go well. We grew up with her and it’s been like this for most of her life now. She can’t even face Vitus and Dabria who basically raised her. I’ll try to get her to at least be willing to talk to you, but I can’t promise anything. Delphia’s got to do us a favor now bye!!”
He had no time to respond before the line was dead. He stared at the phone for a while before deciding to open his chat with Mira. She didn’t seem to have blocked him yet. He scrolled up through months of chats, to the very first messages about working together. He needed to find where he messed up so badly. How could he have thought someone that terrified was a giant like him? How does he fix it?
It was a bit later than he wanted it to be, but he found his first clue. She said she hated going out lately. Everything in this town was so combined she was always on edge. He’d laughed and said he felt the same. That one still was a simple miscommunication. She was worried a giant would do something, he was worried he’d mess up and hurt a human. It was a clue, but definitely not an answer.
The next message was after they played a game offline together. She seemed really nervous and asked him about ten times if she could admit something. She’d said she was always terrified of the other size. She didn’t say which, and they had just played a horror game as humans escaping a giant together. He slapped his hand to his face, that one was pretty obvious. She said having him there was the only way she got through that game. He thought she’d meant being so small was terrifying, something he related to.
After that night there were so many obvious signs. She was terrified of meets after she heard about how bad things went for the human streamer NervousGamer. She wouldn’t meet this guy her friend had basically become brothers with because his size made her anxious. Of course he was a giant, maybe that was who pulled her from his hand. He tossed his phone on his desk, if he kept going he’d just see how blind he was. How was he going to fix this?
He rolled onto his back and stared at his ceiling. He could just leave it, that’s what that guy said to do. Alessia said she’d try to get her to talk to him. He sat up and stared at his phone. He could call her… He could maybe message her at least. Apologize for today and offer to make it up to her. Although what could she have been through to cause such a bad reaction? He groaned before reaching for his phone and staring at the last message in their chat. A picture of her before the meet up, the opposite of what he saw. She looked happy and confident, he wanted to see that face in person. He had to say something.
Mira spent the night curled up with her family around her. A group of kids who’d lost the people around them taken in by a couple with a soft heart. She loved Vitus and Dabria, even if they were giants. They had saved her, gave her a home where she still knew people, and they never made her talk to them. They were probably the only giants she could handle anymore. They were the only ones she knew wouldn’t do anything.
Alessia had her in a hug, Ash holding them both. The two were supposed to spend the night with their girlfriend, Delphia would have stayed here if she were human. Rhys and Ian were laying on each other on the couch, they fell asleep watching the movie they’d all put on. She slid out of the hug, smiling as Alessia rolled over snuggling into Ash. She carefully stepped out of the room taking a moment to breathe. She needed to think about things.
She had to check things, she had a lot she was supposed to do yesterday. She turned on her computer feeling a pang in her heart. She didn’t know if she wanted to see him say anything. She opened her chat app and saw the bubble she was dreading. She checked her email and posted an update while the bubble seemed to grow bigger on her screen. She hated this, she should get someone else to open it. She was running out of things to do and no one else was awake. She clicked the bubble, looking at a much longer message than she expected.
CorBuster: Hey Miracle, I kind of figured you may want me going back to your name on streams. Sorry I scared you so badly, guess I should have been more obvious I was a giant. I know some humans are pretty nervous. My best guess is I almost stepped on you when I tapped my foot. I was sure you were a giant, but that doesn’t excuse that I wasn’t paying attention. I’m sorry I grabbed you too, I hadn’t planned to go after you I swear. I just saw you heading towards the street and the car coming. I had to do something, I probably could have done something else if I thought about it for more than a second.
If you’re willing could we talk? On the phone or online or even chat like this. I just… Look I really like you and had been planning to ask you on a date officially last night. I don’t plan to push it or anything, but I would like to stay friends. Finish the games we were playing on and off stream. Fuck I might delete this before you even see it. This is stupid that guy told me not to bother you again, but I can’t just forget this. I don’t know why I’m even writing this part, I’ve typed this whole message like six times and deleted it all. I probably won’t even send this. I’m pretty sure the sun is coming up, I hope if I do hit send you think about it. If I don’t hit send I guess I hope you message me….asdfkajfwoihfasklj;nfv;llkjaf
She couldn’t help but laugh at the end. He had done that a lot in their talks, passing out because he stayed up too late. It was part of why she started talking to him more. She didn’t want him to hurt himself just to try and be popular online. She checked the time stamp, he sent it two hours ago. She could just pretend she never saw it, let him wake up and probably delete it.
Alessia had said she thought it was worth talking with him. She couldn’t even start to think of how to start. She had a panic attack and nearly died to desperately get away from him. It wasn’t easy to say she had a horrible fear of giants and actively spent her life avoiding anything to do with them. The only ones that she could even speak to were Vitus and Dabria, but that had to be done one at a time while she was hidden in her home. She can’t remember the last time she actually looked at one of them.
She sighed as she read the message again. At least she could handle telling him that it wasn’t exactly him that caused it. It didn’t help that she could still picture him only as the human she’d imagined. The giant yesterday felt like some horrible stranger. It was probably the only reason she could even stand to think about entertaining this idea. She started to type out a message.
PinkEyedMiracle: Look it’s…a lot to explain, but it wasn’t your fault. The only thing that happened was I should have asked if you were a giant before agreeing to meet you. Let’s just finish our current stream plans and call it done.
She hit send and tried to relax. She didn’t like that her hands were already shaking. That giant could never get near her again, Corus wasn’t that giant. Mikhail had put her down after getting her out of one hand. The giants aren’t bad, they aren’t going to do what the other did. They aren’t going to ignore it if she were to disappear. She had to keep repeating it in her mind as she slowly curled in on herself. A ping sounded and she jolted upright.
CorBuster: I’m willing to listen. Mira I don’t want to lose you even if we just keep being friends. Can’t you tell me what’s going on?
PinkEyedMiracle: Even if I tell you it won’t matter. No offense, but I’ve been through it plenty of times. Besides, I don't want to type out everything and have it sitting there where I can see it again and again.
CorBuster: Let’s video chat, just one time please. Just one chance.
PinkEyedMiracle is typing…
PinkEyedMiracle: …fine…
Corus was vibrating, she had agreed. He could barely wait, hitting the call and waiting for her to answer. She answered, it was so funny how they felt the same size right now. She didn’t look like herself. She seemed small, scared, like the person he’d known couldn’t possibly exist. This wasn’t Mira, the person he learned about slowly over months. This wasn’t PinkEyedMiracle the famous streamer who kept millions entertained almost daily. This was someone completely new. He wanted to know this Mira, this one felt more real.
He watched her as her face seemed to twist when it met his eyes. He wanted that to be the bright smile he’d seen for months. How could he fix this? Did she hate the idea of being with giants? It could be that she had a bad ex or something. He just wanted to keep his friend at least. He had an idea that may backfire, but it was worth a shot to get her to loosen up.
“So,” he started, she jumped and he felt an ache in his heart. “Giants suck. They’re all loud and grabby, and uh big.”
Mira chuckled at Corus’s attempt to help calm her down. That smile that had been something she was so excited for lit up her screen. He looked so human like this. Nothing that made it seem like he was a giant, like he could grab her and lock her away. She had to take deep breaths to push away those thoughts. He cared about her and she cared about him more than she ever thought she could about a giant.
“Look Corus, I…” she tried. She has to explain so much. A lot is horrible. “It’s probably easier if you just go back like sixteen years to find the articles about it. Although none of them mentioned much on the humans, just the poor giant kid who had their life ruined.”
Corus wasn’t sure if she meant for him to do it now, but she wasn’t continuing. He did look it up, a giant kid who had their life ruined and humans were involved. There weren’t many stories about that overall. There was one that came up that took place in this town. She had said she grew up here. The headline alone made him pray that he was horribly wrong. Human girl found with giant sibling after missing for over a month. He clicked the link, the images were all of the giant child and their family. It didn’t look like a single human was even spoken to or directly about.
He started reading and he felt himself getting sick. A giant couple had recently started to adopt orphaned humans. The first the couple took in had supposedly been doing fine and they took in a second. The second had lost her parents to an accident that happened between humans and giants. The girl hadn’t been seen after spending a day with her new family, a large assumption was she was healing. The giant couple claimed they hadn’t even reported her missing because they wanted to keep adopting humans. They were sure she’d come home when she was ready.
“Mira is this-” he tried to ask. He didn’t want to keep going if it wasn’t her.
“Keep reading,” she cut him off. He nodded.
The article didn’t go into much detail on what happened to the humans. It barely mentioned even their status after they were found. It did mention the first human child had been found deceased. Their second child was found after a concerned parent of her friend forced himself into her new home. He started searching and calling out for her when he noticed the couple’s child eyeing a box with a fierce look. The child tried to stop him, but he had forced them aside. He lifted the box, tearing it open and finding the girl. Reports on the human girl said she was emaciated and screamed in fear as the giant who found her went to hold her.
Apparently his wife had come along and took the girl to the hospital. Then the concerned father started searching through the boxes the child kept in the room. The other adopted human was found along with a number of missing humans from the town. All of them deceased. The giant child was charged with murder and sent to serve their sentence in a giants only prison. They were added to the human risk registry banning them from locations that humans lived unless their surviving victim spoke up for their growth. The child’s parents desperately apologized and wanted forgiveness from the human they had meant to take in. He couldn’t read anymore as it just turned into trash about how humans ruin the lives of prominent giants. Seemed like the one who wrote it was just a prick.
“Were you really the one who survived?” he asked. Mira looked up at him with a fiery anger that felt out of place. Anger was probably better to feel about that though.
“Yes I’m the one who barely survived some sicko locking me in a box after my parents were killed,” she seethed. “I don’t care what you say I will never state they deserve to be around humans again. There’s no way anyone like you could understand what that was like for me!”
“Mira I-”
“It’s easy for all of you to say move past and I can’t hold onto it forever! You didn’t fear for your life every day. Hear how people casually discussed you running away or hiding from them like it was just inevitable!”
“Mira… please let me-”
“Go ahead tell me how you think I’m just some cruel size focused bitch. I already heard it all before. You can take all the-”
“Mira!” She seemed to see him again, bright pink eyes filled with fear. He felt awful, he scared her again. “I don’t think you should be over it. I want to punch that person who did all of that and then personally thank your friend’s parents.”
“...what?”
Corus was the only giant outside of Vitus and Dabria who didn’t think she had to change. Delphia and Mikhail knew there was something, but she made the others promise never to tell them. She didn’t want to have them face the comments she’d heard before. Vitus and Dabria heard it all before and they swear these giants wouldn’t think like that. She wanted to believe them, but no one she’d met felt that way. It’s been years and there were others she told, humans always understood and giants always said they were different. The worst giants said she should just get them off the registry, they were only a kid when it happened. So was she…
“I well I think what you went through was awful and wish I could have stopped it. I can’t see where anyone would think you should just get over this,” he said. She watched as he rubbed his neck, cameras made giants so deceptively human. “If people have been saying that to you then I think they’re just focusing on the wrong part. That kid’s life was ruined because they treated people like trash and hurt them. That couple claiming they had no idea seems off too.”
“I need to go,” she said and shut her computer down. She nearly jumped away from the thing. He didn’t mean that, he was lying to her. He just wanted her to believe him so he could keep her like they did. She didn’t even realize she kept backing away until she hit the wall, sliding down and hugging herself. Alessia ran in, she was probably eavesdropping. She held Mira quickly trying to soothe her. It wasn’t panic, this was something else. It was like he actually understood… “He didn’t say I should be over it…”
Corus didn’t have any time to try and stop her. The call ended before he processed what she said. He wanted to know more, more about what that kid did to her. He started searching, he couldn’t find much on any of it. It was like someone made sure all of it was gone. He found one thing though, the couple that had taken her in had their contact information up. He typed out a professional looking email asking for details on the old incident. They replied in seconds with a number happy to take his call immediately. He didn’t wait either, relieved when the line connected.
“Hi, it’s a pleasure to hear someone looking into this again,” Mrs. Ambul said. She sounded almost hopeful, he couldn’t help the way it made him upset. She was probably hopeful that her child would be let loose around humans again.
“I was looking for some new content when I came across the old article. It seemed like the focus was mostly on how someone had invaded your home and ruined your child’s life. Can you give me some details?” he asked. He tried to sound curious despite the anger he had burning inside thinking about Mira’s face. She had expected to be rejected and blamed for something there was no way she controlled.
“Oh well, our child had some strange interests. They thought it would help the humans if they stayed somewhere dark and quiet, like a way to grow up. The first human child we took in had a history of running away and the second had just lost her parents. We had no reason to assume a story that came from a book would cause such trouble.”
“According to the article, there were a number of other deceased humans found alongside the two adopted. Ones that had been going missing from the town for an extended period. Can you tell me more about that?”
“Well there seemed to be a bit of miscommunication in that original article.” He heard forced laughter, he had a bad feeling about this. “Those humans had all been homeless and snuck into my child’s room for warmth. They frequently complained it was too cold so we had a heater in their room year round. The humans got stuck and no one knew they were there, nothing like you’ve heard.”
“I see.” He was going to be sick with his next line. “This adds up to a lot of what I found. Do you think you could connect me with your child? I have a lot I need their take on. A lot that if heard I might be able to get public opinion on their side.”
“Oh well that’s wonderful, unfortunately they aren’t allowed to interact over the phone or internet outside of their giants only community. I can give you their address and let them know you plan to come by maybe today?” The joy in her voice made him want to scream. He couldn’t though, he had to hold back and keep this up. He would probably wind up punching this kid in the face though.
“Tomorrow may be better.”
The woman spoke too quickly for him to hear, but he got an email with an address and the line went dead. He stared at it for a while. That reaction from Mira wasn’t someone who’d been misunderstanding a child’s antics. Their kid was almost ten at the time too. These people made him sick and he would get to the bottom of how anyone could think this was normal. Another email came in from the woman with a list of names. Others she spoke to before they spoke to the human who lied about her child. Things were getting clearer now. The first bits of a plan formed in his head as the dread settled in his gut.
He sighed before pushing away from his desk, he’d need Delphia’s help with all of this. He grabbed his phone and sent her a message. He may need her to contact that podcast friend of hers. That list of names is long and it makes him have a feeling there’s a lot more that got hidden. First he’d need to get some kind of recorder. He wasn’t risking his phone failing on him out there. He got a call after a minute, a bit shocked to see a number he didn’t recognize.
“Hello?” he asked as he answered. He hoped it wasn’t someone telling him Mira hated him.
“Cor, it’s me. I’m with that podcast friend of mine now. My phone’s being used by him for something. What’s up?” Delphia’s voice came through. He smiled, this had to get done.
“Look, long story short I found out about something that makes me sick. I don’t want to explain how I know, but can we meet and talk? Can you both come here? I want to get information on this and it’s a lot I can’t do it on my own.” He heard muffled voices on the other end. Delphia was probably asking, it seemed like she was agreeing. She always had his back.
“Ok we’ll be over in a bit. We weren’t far anyway. Although my friend said if you waste his time you’re paying for what he’d been out here buying.”
“Tell him I’ll do it anyway. Let yourself in when you get here, I’m going to be on my computer searching for some things.”
As soon as they were off the phone he went searching. He found article after article about how an innocent young giant was punished because a human made up lies. Each person on that list had written one, a number of them had petitions to get the giant removed from the human danger registry. Sob stories about reuniting them with their parents. He was ready to go hunt each one down and teach them a lesson. How could they see the way she reacted to giants and think she was just holding a pointless grudge?
Something else started to eat at his mind, she said her parents were killed, but the article mentioned an accident. It would have to be close to when that first article was written. He started searching for information on that. He was coming up with nothing until he widened the search area. He found an article, Tragedy at the Human Roads. It was small, but had more than enough information. A giant collapsed and fell on a human road, causing a number of deaths. The article had a picture of human survivors and it may be a much younger version, but he saw Mira.
He jumped when he heard his door open. This was worse than he thought, he just hoped he could do something about this. He couldn’t make her less scared or anything, but he could make sure that the humans hurt finally got the attention they deserved. He turned to his door waiting for Delphia and her friend. When they walked in he jumped up, it was the guy from yesterday. He was just as stunned, staring daggers at Corus. This wasn’t going to be easy to get help then. Delphia clapped, making them both look at her.
“I guess you two have met, Corus, this is Mikhail, Mikhail Corus,” she introduced them. Corus went back to his computer, closing the article on the accident and pulling up the main one he’d found on the creep of a kid. He stepped back again looking at them both.
“Obviously you already don’t like me, but just read these articles I found. I can’t just ignore all of this,” he explained.
Mikhail narrowed his eyes but approached the computer. Delphia leaned over his shoulder to read along. It wasn’t long before she had tears in her eyes and was backing away. She didn’t have the heart for all of this. Mikhail just kept reading, moving between each article slowly. Corus was getting worried he was actually on the side of the family that let humans like Mira suffer. Mikhail turned to face him once he reached the last article Corus had pulled up.
“What are you planning to do about this?” he asked. His voice sounded somewhat like when they met the day before. An anger thinly veiled under an air of decorum.
“I was curious after this, so I called the family from the article. They talked about how the human who survived misunderstood and how their child was being wrongfully punished,” Corus started.
“Are you intending to take their side in this?” Mikhail raised an eyebrow. That anger seemed to come forward more.
“I want to get the truth and have it reach as many people as possible. The last person the kid’s mother spoke with wrote an article a few years ago. I think if we work together we can make sure the truth about this kid gets out so there’s no risk to humans at all from them. A number of the articles spoke about reconsideration for the sentence. I have some ideas on how to help humans who deal with this too.”
“Corus, I need you to tell us, does this have to do with Mira?” Delphia asked. He knew the look in her eyes, he couldn’t get away with hiding it. He stiffly nodded and the two shared a look. Delphia turned back to him with a strength he didn’t expect. “What’s the plan?”
Mira hadn’t handled the call well. She shouldn’t have even spoken to him. She should have made up some excuse for all of this instead. Alessia had spent the whole day petting her head. Vitus came by at one point, the others had to talk to him. She couldn’t get over how loud he was with each word. He was trying too, but it was too much. Her mind kept thinking of a hand grabbing her, putting her somewhere she can’t escape. Of a single move that would end the lives of everyone around her. His steps as he left made her shake.
“Mira… this time it’s worse than normal isn’t it?” Ian asked. She nodded. Ian was supposed to go to a store with Mikhail today, but she panicked when she saw Ian walk towards his feet. She was going to ruin their relationships like this. Delphia had been on the phone with Ash a lot too, she was making them put things off.
“You guys should go, I’ll be fine,” she said. She was still shaking, this was the first time she’d been held since then. Then she spoke to him and he empathized, it left her mind a mess. She felt a squeeze on her hand and followed the arm up to Rhys’s eyes.
“We’re not going anywhere,” he said. “It’s just like when we were younger, extended sleep over. Maybe we can convince Dabria to get us a giant candy again. That time Vitus was so mad, but he never did anything. He said we looked too happy for him to really be angry at us.”
The others laughed, but Mira just smiled. She remembered that day differently. The giant candy and eating bits of it they handed to her. The others passed out from sugar crashes while she stayed up nervous and anxious. Vitus coming to check on them, shaking in fear when she saw the anger on his face. He hadn’t seen her awake, his hand coming in towards them. She could barely breathe as he took the candy from them. She heard him murmur then walk away, a tense moment that ended with her crying herself to sleep in fear he’d come back.

So the Prompt for this was How dare [you] and I tried for a while to pick the right story for it. Wound up with streamer au how Mikhail and Ian met. Originally I was like yeah a page or two....it did not stay that. Thanks for the prompt anon <3
TW: a bit of dehumanization.
How Dare You
Ian wasn’t excited to go to a meet and greet with giants alone, but it could help his sister. If he could prove nothing happened when he attended as a human alone, Mira might start feeling safer around at least their parents. He kept repeating that to himself as giants came to meet him. They kept picking him up in uncomfortably tight grips and posing for selfies. He wasn’t even getting a say in it. He had started to wish his parents were here, his dad would have been loud enough to shake the room the first time he got grabbed.
“Aww I thought for sure they were kidding when they said NervousGamer was a human,” a voice said. He turned to face them, a bit intimidated with the way they towered over him. He swallowed, he’d been around giants long enough to know when they were too quiet for another one to hear.
“Heh, it’s true I’m a human. I announced it when I started. I don't know why so many thought it was a joke,” he laughed. He didn’t like it when their hand came closer and their fingers started to wrap around him. It wasn’t like the others who were just excited.
“Well at least I can prove to my friends I met you.” Their smirk made his blood run cold. He looked to the guards who were supposed to keep him safe. They weren’t even looking his way.
“H-how dare you! You can’t just ta-” His words were cut off as the fingers gripped him tighter and one started to cover his face. He managed to look over his shoulder and see the guards hadn’t even heard his yell. They were mostly here for him and none of them were focused on the human in the room of giants.
The giant shifted their grip so he was forced to curl up underneath the fingers. They shoved their hand somewhere, probably a pocket. He was screaming and trying to kick to get attention. Someone had to notice he was gone, the next giant in line would. Then they’d shut things down and find him he’d be fine. He just had to rely on someone noticing. He flinched when the giant started to move around a lot, it wasn’t like walking.
“Excuse me!” they called out. He could feel tears starting as the terrible reality he was in set in. No one was going to notice. “Isn’t this where I meet NervousGamer? He’s not here, did I come too late?”
“Oh,” he heard one of the guards say. It was the one who dropped him from just a bit too high earlier too. “Human took a break, I’ll put up a sign. You can wait or come back later.”
“Aw, I was looking forward to meeting him. I don’t have time to wait. Thank you for telling me, sir.”
He went limp as he felt the giant start to walk away. He tried to move his head when he felt them use their thumb to pet him. He knew some giants were like this, he should have been more careful. Not only is he screwed, Mira won’t ever trust a giant again when he doesn’t come home. He could hear the footsteps of giants all around him as the one kidnapping him left. He was fucked.
“Stop!” He heard someone call. He thought he knew the voice, but he wasn’t sure. The giant holding him kept going, they might have sped up he couldn’t tell. “I said stop. How dare you try to kidnap someone!”
Ian started squirming again. He had hope. Someone did notice that they took him. The grip didn’t tighten, it seemed like they didn’t want to kill him or hurt him too badly. He could feel it as they picked up speed again, this time he could hear heavier footsteps coming closer. The one holding him was pulled back and he was let go, falling a bit deeper into the pocket. Of course the giant who tried to kidnap him kept their pockets full of stuff he’d never climb to the edge like this.
He screamed when a hand entered the pocket again. He could only assume it was the same person trying to take him, maybe with empty hands the one who noticed assumed it was a mistake. Ian started kicking and trying to fight back, but the hand didn’t stop. It finally started to wrap the long fingers around him and he felt ready to be sick. These fingers were definitely longer and the skin was a rich brown rather than the pasty white that had grabbed him. He desperately hoped they were a good person and not someone else planning to take him.
“Hey, just cause you’re some famous podcaster or whatever doesn’t mean you can go around harassing people!” the guard from earlier shouted. The fingers grabbing Ian moved faster, but there was still significant care in how they seemed to handle him. “You can’t go accusing people of kidnapping either. The human streamer just took a break and this person just missed the chance to see it.”
“If you want to remotely not be considered an accomplice to attempted kidnapping I’d call the authorities now,” the new giant growled. He heard some more footsteps coming up and his heart started pounding. He was still in the pocket and he couldn’t make his voice work. They were going to leave him with the one taking him.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” a new voice yelled. He knew that one, it was the nice guard who said they’d come by to help him to the break area later. “The guest didn’t go anywhere, I was supposed to pick him up in twenty minutes. What the hell did you let happen?”
“It’s just a human who cares if it ran off,” the cruel guard said. Ian couldn’t get the thoughts about Mira out of his head. Is this how she thought all giants acted?
“I’d like to leave, I'm going to miss my bus,” his kidnapper tried. He still couldn’t make his voice work. This was awful. The hand he was in tensed for a moment before pulling him out sickeningly fast. The hand turned quickly leaving him on his back and staring at the ceiling. His chest was heaving. He had been positive he’d never get out of the grip of the one who took him.
“Tch, all of this over a dumb human, just have them give it an apology and let’s move on.” Ian mustered all his strength to glare at the guard. It wasn’t easy to hold it with the way they were looking at him.
“That’s it, both of you are being taken in for this. I have a sneaking suspicion this wasn’t a lucky chance for our would be kidnapper here.” The kind guard’s face hovered above him with a look he couldn’t understand. “Sir, do you feel safe going with the gentleman who stopped this to the break area?”
Ian turned to look at the face of his savior. The green eyes staring at him almost made him think of his dad’s. He nodded, positive his voice wouldn’t work. The stranger pulled him close to his chest as he walked away from the scene. It was the first time Ian noticed how big of a commotion it was. He could see the phones being held up, so much for keeping this incident quiet from Mira. The giant carrying him stopped by the area he’d been taken from and picked up the bag that he’d put off to the side as giants started grabbing him.
Everything moved in a blur as the giant walked. They reached the area that his parents had dropped him off in and sat at a table far in the corner. The giant lowered his hand to the table, waiting with a look of concern until Ian finally climbed off. He stood and walked away, which admittedly terrified him. He didn’t want to be alone right now. All the stranger did was go to the area with human sized refreshments. He came back with way too many, but Ian greedily drank from the water bottles he was offered.
“Are you alright?” the stranger asked. He looked up at him almost shocked by the look he was giving him. It felt like how Ash and Rhys looked when he said he’d go alone. “I should have stepped in sooner. I assumed you’d told the staff it was fine to be handled like that. I’m sorry it got that bad.”
“It’s,” he stopped to cough a bit before trying again. “It’s my own fault. I should have probably said something. At least not have come alone.”
“Some fans are like that. I know it’s not the same, but I’ve had human fans climb into my pockets or bags before so I’d take them home and they could stay with me.” Ian actually appreciated the look of disgust that crossed the giant’s features. “It’s a disgusting preference some have to want to own or be owned by someone they idolize. I’m happy to help you handle giants any time, I can’t imagine other humans would be a great deterrent.”
“Actually, my parents are giants. I just tried to prove a point to someone, show giants are safe and I guess it backfired a little. My name’s Ian by the way.” The giant grimaced but offered a finger out to him.
“My name is Mikhail, you can call me Mik. I only let my friends do that so you have another giant you can rely on at least. I’m at these things a lot for this area especially after all. I hope at least you and your friend know that not all of us want to treat humans so poorly.”
“I do, she just has been through a lot. Have we met before?” Ian felt safe with Mik. He was kind and saved him from being kidnapped. It would have been easy to just ignore the little human getting taken away.
“I think I’d remember a human like you. I do run a podcast called ‘What the Ghoul?’ you may know my voice from there. Also, I can be pretty sure they’re going to need you to stay for a while you may want to call your family. I’ll stay with you as long as you need though. I just can assume it’s already gotten around.”
They shared a look as they both remembered the sounds of the pictures being taken and the phones held up. Ian knew he was right and slowly pulled the bag Mik had retrieved closer. He could feel the buzzing already. He pulled out his phone and had way too many calls and messages to handle. As much as he wanted to call his parents first, he knew he had to tell Mira. He pulled up her chat and smiled at the picture of her in a shirt from her favorite podcast. He hit call before the name on the shirt registered in his head and looked back up at Mik. The ringing stopped and he could already hear the panicked attempts at her speaking.
“Mira, Mira calm down,” he started. “I’m fine I promise, the guy who saved me is my friend. His name’s Mikhail, you might even like talking to him. He runs your favorite podcast.”
“Just come home please? Alessia said she’d come pick me up from my place. You can’t trust a gi-,” Mira cried.
“Mik’s my friend. I have to hang out while they deal with things. I’m going to call mom and dad. I promise I’m ok Mira. I also promise no more events like this alone ok? Go with Alessia. I'll make sure to answer any message you send, promise.”
“I’m guessing that’s who you tried to prove a point to?” Mik asked as soon as Ian hung up. He started searching for his dad’s number. His mom would want to stay by Mira if she can right now, even with how scared she is. He hit call and looked up at Mik again.
“Yeah she’s actually my sister…” Ian waited for the disgust and annoyance that people usually had towards her. Mira had no idea how much they noticed. Mik just looked sad. The ringing stopped before Mik could say anything else.
“Ian! Are you alright? Where are you? I’m on my way already. I'll come to wherever you’re waiting, stay away from crowds!” his dad panicked. He had an idea and put the call on speaker.
“I’m alright. I’m in that break room you dropped me off in this morning. My new friend is staying with me, he’s the one who saved me.” Ian looked at Mik expectantly and got a look of shock back.
“Uh hello, I’m happy to stay with Ian as long as needed…”
“See you when you get here!”
Ian hung up the phone. He didn’t want to have to hear the panic or the lecture he knew was coming. He grinned at Mik, but grew worried when he couldn’t read his expression. Mik folded his arms on the table and lowered his head so he was closer to Ian’s level. Ian hadn’t expected to feel as uncomfortable as he did from that. His mom and dad talked to him like this all the time, it should be fine. He just tried to keep his smile on and act like nothing was wrong.
“You know that it’s ok to be scared,” Mik started. Ian flinched, he didn’t think he’d been obvious. “I’m guessing whatever your sister went through already had you nervous and you ran into two giants that were treating you like nothing. If you want I can sit somewhere else to keep an eye out until your dad gets here.”
“No, no I’m fine. I’ve been around giants my whole life. It’s just like meeting messed up humans, it happens,” he tried.
His smile was shaking and he hoped Mik couldn’t see it. Mik moved so only one arm was cushioning his head. The other now had his hand out and moved towards Ian. There wasn’t a place he could go, he was going to be grabbed again. He shut his eyes and hugged himself waiting for the long warm fingers to trap him again. It didn’t come, he could feel the heat of the hand though. He opened his eyes and saw Mik looking at him with deep sadness.
“I don’t think you noticed, but when I tried to shake your hand you just ignored it. It’s ok to be scared, Ian. You don’t have a reason to trust me, or any of the staff here right now. If anyone thinks you’re overreacting I’ll make sure to speak up if you can’t.”
He didn’t want to cry. He didn’t want to be scared. If he started being scared he couldn’t do anything to help Mira. The hand near him had him panicking even if Mik made him feel safe. The idea of someone else showing up and taking him wouldn’t leave his head. He started sniffling and soon he was wailing. The hand near him moved a bit closer and he tensed again. Before Mik could pull away Ian latched on to a finger and cried into it.
“I can’t be scared, if I’m scared how do I help Mira?! Except maybe she’s right to be so scared! No one was going to notice!” he screamed. “I was going to be taken and never see my family again. I couldn’t fight back, I couldn't speak. Even when you stopped them I thought for sure that they were going to be believed and I’d just never be seen again.”
The finger he latched onto bent as the hand around him moved. Mik was careful as he started to scoop Ian into his palm, all the fear he felt forgotten as he cried. Mik saved him and even made sure he called his family. He was safe right now. He knew that Mik was moving, but didn’t care much of what he was doing exactly. He only figured it out when he was pressed against a cloth that had something hard behind it. A comforting beat was coming from the hard wall and he realized Mik was hugging him to his chest.
“Just let it out Ian, I’ll make sure you get home. We’re friends now. I'm someone you can call if you need help. You can still act like you aren’t scared to your sister. You can let me know when you’re scared.”
Ian was pretty sure he couldn’t feel it, but nodded into Mik’s chest. He didn’t get why he cared so much when they just met, but he didn’t care. It was nice having someone here right now while this just happened. He was terrified of everyone, he wasn’t even sure he’d feel safe with his dad. It was the first time he ever saw giants as dangerous and he never wanted to again.
Mikhail couldn’t explain why he cared so much about this human. There was something in the way he’d acted from the second he’d arrived at the table for the meet and greet. He couldn’t just ignore the kid here alone especially when he was the only human there. It didn’t make sense to him when the staff Mikhail knew was for Ian wandered off. Holding the human while he cried just cemented whatever started today. He’d help the kid stay safe and be someone he can open up to about his fears.

Rough Ride
TW: uhh wow i'm getting worse at knowing what is in my own stories. Mentions of death or well killing, a lot of self hatred cause these boys are both dumb
This started from that bus thing I posted.........it didn't stay the bus thing.
Rough Ride
This week had been hell. First Mikhail’s car broke down which meant bus rides to and from the campus. Then Ian started hearing something near the house and was terrified to stay alone. He took as much time off as he could, but he had to finally go back in. He had to be available for office hours today, it was too close to exams not to be. He heaved a heavy sigh as he looked at the bag he’d brought with him. He’d added a pillow and some blankets so it would be safe and Ian was sitting in there playing with a smaller tablet. It would be awful getting home today. Early in the morning the bus was quiet, but there’s been a lot of people in the afternoon lately.
“Is everything ok?” Ian said, poking his head out of the bag. Mikhail smiled at him and reached down using a finger to ruffle his hair. Ian made a face as Mikhail pulled away, he couldn’t stop the chuckle.
“Everything is fine, remember you have to keep your head down and stay quiet until I tell you,” Mikhail said, his tone mirthful while scolding.
“It’s fine no one is-”
“Professor, are you still available for office hours?” another voice called from the door. Mikhail raised an eyebrow as Ian looked up a bit scared and dove back down. He smiled at Ian’s confidence even away from home before turning to face the student who’d shown up. This was who he’d been waiting on to be truthful, she’d been falling behind recently.
“Of course, come right in,” he answered, motioning to the seat in front of him. She wasted no time taking the seat and pulling out all the papers she’d collected. He knew this would be a few hours and sent a silent apology to Ian.
He waved as his student finally left, she shut the door knowing it was far past his office hours at this point. At least she would be well set for her finals and thesis at the end of the semester. He leaned back in his seat groaning, looking at his bag for Ian’s small face to poke up. When there were no bright eyes, he felt himself panic and carefully moved the bag open. He was flooded with relief as Ian rolled over slightly squinting at the light. He smiled and pulled the tablet out. He closed the bag enough to hide Ian then slid the tablet in the side pocket. He gathered all his things quietly before gently lifting the bag.
They were leaving a lot later than he’d intended, at least the bus should be mostly empty. He carefully pulled the bag up on his shoulder, trying to keep his movements smooth. The bus ride should be simple, it was past rush hour. He shivered a bit as the wind blew once he walked out of the building. He opened the bag a little and carefully put his scarf around Ian. It hung out of the bag, but he closed it over enough to hide Ian and keep him warm.
The bus came quickly and Mikhail waved it down. It was almost empty so he took a seat further in the back placing his bag carefully next to him. He’d needed to check his emails, the holidays approaching meant his aunt was expecting more updates on his plans. He’d only been looking away for a minute or two when the easy trip became treacherous. He looked over to check on Ian when the person about to sit on his bag made his heart stop. He pushed the person and felt his own height shifting up. It had been a long time since he’d had this surge of panic grip him, claws forming on his fingers and caught on the person’s coat.
“Buddy what the fuck?” they screamed. Mikhail’s mind was a mess; he looked down and saw Ian’s wide eyes meeting his own. He didn’t think, clutching his bag and running off the bus. He wasn’t thinking, his claws getting a bit sharper as he rushed. He had to get home, get Ian safe then he could worry about everything. About how Ian would act seeing the bits of him that were a little less human. The parts he’s spent so much of his life controlling. He hadn’t realized how big he was getting as he ran, thankful he’d moved on his own to a town with a large forest. The bag fit in one hand, he could still tell Ian was there though. His senses grew stronger, more predatory, as his size changed.
He saw his home come into view and a wave of relief washed over him. He wouldn’t be able to get in like this, but he could bring Ian to the spot he’d sneak in and out of as Mik. He’d be stuck like this for a while, he couldn’t stop thinking about the what ifs. What if he’d stayed distracted? What if he’d dozed off? What if he was on the busier bus and someone did something? What if he’d moved wrong? What if he’d hurt him?
He got as close to his house as possible using two of his clawed fingers to put the bag where he could still see the covered entrance. The sharper vision was a relief when he got like this, but he didn’t want Ian to see him. Ian would know he’s a monster and finally want to leave. It would probably be safer for him though. He stayed closely and watched for Ian to poke his head out. He would do his best to keep his voice quiet and let him know he could go inside. He’d call Mandy to come by with Maria once he calmed down enough to use his phone again.
Ian finally poked out of the bag, Mikhail could see him looking around. He knew Ian was probably looking for an escape route. He could go inside though, there would be time before Mikhail could do anything and Ian could hide. He could gather any supplies he needed, Maria could help him feel safe after this. He had to work up courage to talk, the frantic searching Ian seemed to be doing was making him more nervous.
“You can head in there’s an entrance in front of you,” Mik’s booming voice sounded behind him. He whipped his head around, relieved Mik hadn’t abandoned him after all. He thought for sure Mik was mad he’d poked his head out on the bus, but there was a shadow over the bag and he got curious.
Ian wanted to talk, but his words were caught in his throat. Mik didn’t look like Mik. He had these long black claws on his fingers and his eyes looked the same as the cat the bad human had in their house. He wasn’t sure this was Mik anymore, but the voice sounded like his when he got bigger. It had to be Mik, he wouldn’t let anything hurt him. So he could feel safe, right?
“Mik?” he asked. He watched the thing that looked like Mik nod and instantly relaxed. If it was Mik then he didn’t have to worry. He climbed out of the bag on the side facing Mik and started to walk towards him.
“Ian no, you should go inside,” his voice was gruff and sounded off. Ian didn’t want to be the only one inside though. It would make him feel worse about making Mik bring him along today. He ignored Mik and started walking towards the hand he’d left on the ground. He climbed on top of it and stared up at him. He could make out some of the green he knew behind the yellow. This was definitely Mik it would be fine.
“Not until you do,” he said. He’d felt a lot better standing up to Mik even when he was bigger than humans recently. Mik had been so scared when he told him about when he was a kid, Ian didn’t want him to be sad or scared again.
“Ian, I might be stuck like this for a while...it’s too cold for you to stay out with me.”
Ian knew what he was thinking was stupid. He should listen to Mik and go inside, but he looked so sad. Ian didn’t want to leave Mik alone right now. He took a deep breath and grabbed the edge of the sleeve on the hand he was standing on. He started climbing before Mik could stop him. Mik was usually too scared to touch him when he was even human size so he shouldn’t have any issue doing this. His plan backfired almost immediately as his shirt was carefully pinched between two of Mik’s claws. He froze up instantly, terrified of falling from this height. Mik chuckled a little and Ian relaxed a bit in response.
“You’re a brat lately, do you know that?” Mikhail sighed. He brought a hand up to Ian so he’d be on a safer surface. Ian didn’t have to pretend to be brave; it was all right for him to be scared. People were scared even when he didn’t change his size much and these traits came out. A fun side effect of the blood that made him a shifter in the first place.
“Well that has to be your fault since you’re the only way I could be one,” Ian snarked. Mikhail laughed curling his fingers over Ian to keep him safe. Once his laughter died down he looked at Ian a bit more closely. He wasn’t shaking, and there wasn’t any scent of fear. Maybe Ian wasn’t pretending after all. “So...how come you have claws and stuff?”
Ian felt Mik’s hand tense as soon as the words left his mouth. He shouldn’t have asked, maybe he did something that caused it. Humans had some weird stuff based on the things he saw watching shows with Mik. Ian could have done something that did this by accident. He was pulled out of his thoughts as Mik sighed, it was enough to knock Ian on his back. He hadn’t realized just how much Mik’s small movements could affect him right now, it made him shudder.
Ian pushed the thought away, just in time too. Mik pulled his hand closer to him and Ian could tell just how different this was then normal. He was in the middle of his palm, normally he could stretch out and touch Mik’s chest when he was held like this. Right now he barely took up much room on the hand holding him. Mik could hurt him easily if he wanted to, and yet he held the bag carefully when he was running. He’d put it down gently and grabbed Ian by his clothes so he couldn’t hold him too tightly. Mik was safe, even if Ian was the size of dust to him Mik would always be safe.
Mik curled his fingers in almost touching Ian before air rushed around him. He felt his heart beat faster as the movement kept going. There was a booming sound of impact that Ian flinched from. He didn’t want Mik getting hurt because of him. There was more movement and smaller booms before it finally stopped. The air rushed around him again before a heavy thump sounded. The fingers above him uncurled and he was looking up at Mik again. He slowly sat up, ignoring the way Mik’s eyes were following him. He saw the tree Mik was sitting by, they weren’t close to the house anymore.
“D-did you walk over here?” Ian asked. He didn’t mean to stammer, but that would mean the air rushing by and the loud sounds were just Mik moving. Mik wasn’t that colossal...was he?
“Y-yes, I thought it would be better to talk where we could both probably be more comfortable,” Mikhail answered. He should probably have warned Ian, but he didn’t want to take the time to let the idea stew in his mind. He’d caught bits of fear from him and didn’t want to give himself time to reconsider. He sat with his knees up near his chest and placed his hands on top of them. The one with Ian flat, the other cupped around like a barricade from the chilly air. He hadn’t felt the part of him that reacted forcefully calm at all, he was stuck for a while yet.
“...I never thought about how it would be when you move and you’re so big…” Mikhail tried to ignore the smell of fear that grew as Ian spoke.
Ian was overcome by a terrified awe. Mik was so big, but still careful not to hurt him. He tried to imagine being on the ground when he moved and the image terrified him. Mik’s sigh had knocked him over, he’d probably be bounced around by his steps. It made Ian nervous to think of, at some point he’d have to walk while Ian wasn’t on him. He looked at Mik and saw how focused his gaze on him was, he’d be fine when that day came. Mik would never let him get hurt.
Ian was watching Mikhail expectantly. He didn’t really want to explain this part to Ian. He could still see Maria’s fear in his mind the first time his claws came in and his eyes changed. He hadn’t even been much bigger than a normal human. She got used to it eventually, but he never wanted Ian to look at him like that. He curled his fingers in, he hadn’t meant to do it. The more he got in his own head, the more he panicked the harder it would be to get back to normal at all. He just needed to keep his family safe, once he knew Ian was safe he would start to revert...probably. He let out a sigh again, wincing a bit when he saw it knock Ian over for the second time. He had to be more careful; he was more like a force of nature to Ian than just a human right now.
“So you remember what I said, about having a blessing or something passed down in my family’s blood?” he started, Ian nodded vigorously. “Well, the thing that gave us power wasn’t exactly...kind. They had apparently hunted humans...and borrowers. I spent a long time making sure I could keep this part under better control, but I panicked on the bus…”
Mikhail couldn’t look at Ian. He was sure he’d be met with panic, the fear would follow after. He knew his claws let him be more careful, but it didn’t stop them from being scary. His eyes helped him follow borrowers even when his size made them seem the size of ants. His senses were heightened and the fear wafted off of everyone as they met him like this. He had started holding his breath after he spoke, he didn’t want to smell Ian’s fear. He hadn’t even learned his natural scent yet either. It wasn’t something he should learn when he would probably be leaving. He twitched his fingers and waited for the scream that would follow it.
“So...you get claws and weird eyes?” Ian asked. He nodded, preferring not to say the scent thing. He remembered Mandy panicking when she heard that and worried he’d be too much like his ancestors. She’d kept him under strict watch until he started to control this part of himself better. “What else do you do?”
He had to breathe now, he couldn’t answer if he didn't. He took a deep breath and froze, there was no fear. He caught a bit of cinnamon, but there was no fear coming from Ian. He leaned closer to his knees and Ian didn’t even flinch. How on earth was Ian careless like this? He should be terrified, Mikhail just said he’s something that used to hunt people. Unless Ian doesn’t realize what he meant. He’d have to explain it more clearly. This was the worst outcome of Ian going with him to work.
“I-I can see better, even if you were the size of an ant to me I’d be able to pick you out and see your face. It would be a little blurry though. Then I can...smell you and others. You all have a scent...I can smell fear...too,” he said, hanging his head. He waited for that strong sweet smell to join the hints of cinnamon he started to get. It was taking longer than he expected. He felt Ian pat the hand he had used as a wind guard and looked up quickly.
“I think that sounds kind of cool.” Ian looked up at Mik’s eyes, seeing more green than earlier. “I mean if you can see me almost perfectly I don’t have to be scared when you’re like this. Right?”
Ian watched as the yellow almost completely left Mik’s eyes. Mik leaned forward close enough Ian could feel his warm breath. He wasn’t quite sure what was happening, but didn’t move. Mik would never hurt him so he could just wait for him to be ready to answer. He wasn’t entirely unafraid, Mik did look scary, but he knew he was safe. There was something dark behind Mik’s eyes right now too. It started to make him wonder if, just maybe, there was more to ‘hunted’ than he thought.
“Ian…,” Mik whispered, Ian stared up at his brother. “Stop pretending you’re alright. I can tell you’re scared. What’s on your mind?”
Mik pulled away and Ian shivered as the cold air hit him again. He stared at Mik and saw more of the darkness in his eyes. He got worried that he did something to hurt him. He didn’t want to be alone again. Mik had been the first person that seemed to really care about him. He felt stinging in his eyes as tears tried to fall in the cold. He almost screamed when one of Mik’s claws came close, relieved when it was pulled away after wiping one of his tears he hadn’t felt fall. The claw stayed close and he reached out to hold on to it.
“Ian, you don’t have to be brave. I know I’m scary like this. I had wanted you to go inside so you didn’t have to…” Mikhail trailed off. He wouldn’t admit he didn’t want Ian to know he could get like this. He tried desperately to ignore the newer wafts of fear coming from his brother. “I can bring you back over to the house, we can talk more once I calm down more.”
“You keep saying calm down, I don’t even know why you have to calm down. I’m not scared of you, just nervous about some things. Like why you keep looking at me like that, like you want me to go away. I don’t want to lose my family again,” Ian said. Mikhail felt his eyes go wide. He wanted to laugh, panicked and afraid of himself he’d run off the bus. Ian didn’t even know what happened. He leaned his head back hitting the tree he’d been leaning against. He didn’t even notice he’d gotten at least a foot shorter.
“On the bus...I almost let you get hurt. I had looked away for a few minutes and when I looked over someone had almost sat on the bag you were in. I acted without thinking, I had to protect you. I pushed them away, but I’d had the claws start already and tore their jacket. I panicked when I saw your head out of the bag, you looked terrified. I ran here after that, Ian I could have hurt them badly without thinking about it. I could hurt you without realizing it,” Mikhail said, on the verge of tears. He’d wondered since these traits showed up if that night with his parents there was more that he wasn’t told. That he’d done more. Now with Ian, he’d completely lost himself in fear on the bus. He could have hurt him so easily.
Ian was angry at himself. Mik wouldn’t be like this if Ian could just be brave. He was only there because he was scared to be alone. He shouldn’t have mentioned the weird noises he’d heard, then Mik would have left like usual and they’d already be inside. Ian started to cry, the wind making his tears sting his skin. He was bawling within seconds, rubbing his eyes to try and stop the tears. He needed to be strong and tell Mik he’d leave like he wanted. That way this wouldn’t happen again. He jumped, but relaxed into the touch when Mik carefully rubbed his back.
“I’m sorry Ian, I should have done better. It’s alright you don’t have to cry. I’ll get you back inside safely soon and then we can…,” Mik struggled to say it. “We can call Mandy and Maria and they can help you.”
“P-please don’t send me away,” Ian started to beg, “I’ll be brave about weird noises. I won’t ask to go with you when you leave again. I’ll be good. I don’t want to be alone again. Please…”
“Wh- no..Ian, I don’t want to send you away. I thought... I thought you were crying because I almost let you get hurt. Ian-”
“I’m sorry I won’t make you so mad you get the claws and stuff again. Please give me another chance.”
“Ian listen to-”
“I’ll stay in the house in your room unless you tell me. Or-or stay in the walls unless you call for me. I’ll just be a normal borrower and leave you alone. I-I really don’t want to leave you even if we don’t spend time together anymore. Please...please.”
Mik knocked Ian out of his spiral, literally. He’d leaned forward and nudged Ian with his nose gently. Ian immediately reached his arms out as far as possible to hug the nose that was currently larger than him. He kept crying and begging Mik to keep him. He didn’t want to start over and be alone. Mik said they were brothers, but his parents left him…they probably didn’t even care if he survived that day. Mik didn’t try to speak, just let Ian cry while holding him close. It was a few minutes before Ian’s crying fell to sniffles.
“Ian...I’m not sending you away. I wouldn’t do that. I just...I thought you finally saw the monster I am. I don’t want you living anywhere you’re scared Ian,” Mikhail explained. He could smell the fear, it only made him feel more protective of his little brother. This was a mess neither deserved, it was his own fault he’d made the mistakes. Ian was crying so hard, it shouldn’t be like this. He was determined to make sure he was safe. He felt his claws growing again, but his size shifted down. A better result than the other possibilities.
“Th-then can I ask you something? Will you promise not to get mad?”
“You can ask anything.” Mikhail pulled away slightly and tried to smile at Ian. It wasn’t easy to feel happy about all of this. He couldn’t imagine what he had to ask. He just had to stay calm with whatever it was.
“What did you mean by hunted? I don’t think I’ve heard that word before.” Mikhail felt his blood run cold. He had no idea why he assumed Ian would know what that meant. He was a kid who lived with indoor borrowers and a cruel human. He wasn’t scared because he didn’t know what hunting meant. He didn’t know that his ancestors had been…monsters. He wasn’t ready to explain this, he had to though. He couldn’t just not answer. He sighed, before looking Ian in the eyes.
“Hunted is usually when…someone or something stalks or-or follows something they see as well, uh, food. My… ancestors were a kind of magic creature that would hunt humans and borrowers. They uh, they needed them for…food.” Mikhail was hit with a strong smell of fear and his world shifted. Within seconds he was in the snow with Ian laying on the ground in front of him. He jumped up and ran to his brother, terrified he’d been hurt in the fall.
Ian groaned as he started to push himself up. He never expected Mik to drop him, he’d been terrified when he thought of something that could smell borrowers chasing them like Mik explained. He looked up for Mik, his fear spiking when there was no looming form dwarfing him. He felt his heart drop, Mik must have left him once he got scared. He asked something he shouldn’t have. He screamed as a hand touched his arm whipping his head to see the owner. His arms went slack as he recognized Mik and the concerned gaze despite his yellow eyes.
Mik tried to get him up, but seemed to struggle. Mik had carried Ian at this size plenty of times though. That seemed to wake him up, Ian jumped to his feet and looked down at Mik. Mik was always taller, he always had to look up. He was supposed to be at least an inch shorter than Mik, not the other way around. Something had gone wrong, he’d made something go wrong. He tried to reach for him, but Mik stepped back. There was something in his eyes, Ian didn’t like it. It made him think of when the bad human finally started to be bad, the way he felt then.
“Mik…what happened?” he asked. They were outside in snow, the worst thing for a borrower as the weather got colder. They had to move quickly, at least they could huddle in the bag until Mik was bigger, or they could use the entrance he mentioned.
“I-I…,” Mikhail was lost for words. He’d never expected to be looking up at Ian, the last time he was this small was when he was still a child. He had to protect Ian, but Ian was scared of him. At least if he was small then Ian didn’t have to be scared. Maybe that was why he was staring up into his brother's brown eyes.
Neither had long to dwell on the situation before the bushes near them rustled. Mikhail tried to stand in front of Ian, but Ian wouldn’t let him. He grabbed his arm and started to run, the snow slowed them by a lot. Mikhail looked back, terror overwhelming him as a fox poked out of the bushes. It must have been the scratching Ian had heard. It was trying to get inside and find warmth or maybe a meal, his house was isolated enough it wasn’t uncommon. He’d been sure to make it wild animal proof though, so this would be the only chance it has to get that easy meal if it wasn’t seeking warmth.
Ian continued dragging him along, the two making minimal progress. Mikhail had to do something he had to protect Ian. He couldn’t get himself to shift though, he was stuck and they were in danger. Ian tripped and looked back finally seeing the fox. Mikhail tried to move him forward, but Ian was stronger right now. He pushed Mikhail in front of him then turned and started to walk towards the fox. Mikhail’s blood ran cold.
“Ian what are you doing?!” he screamed. He couldn’t stop picturing the worst if the fox decided to pounce on them. “We have to keep going until we reach the house, it hasn’t decided to pounce yet!”
Ian shook his head and Mikhail’s blood was like ice. He wouldn’t be able to survive a fox. Mikhail knew they wouldn’t make it to the house either. The fox was eyeing them and he saw the predatory stance. It reminded him of the cat with Maria, almost. This was more dangerous; it wouldn't be a simple cut if he even managed to shift. He had to stop this.
“Y-you’re out here, l-like this because of me,” Ian stammered. He knew Mik hadn’t moved yet. He looked over his shoulder trying to be strong. “I-I’ll distract it. K-keep going.”
Ian didn’t want to wait for Mik to move and started to move towards the fox again. If he was braver this wouldn’t be happening. If he didn’t panic when Mik explained hunting because of his own imagination Mik would be safe and so would he. He would make it up to him though. Mik would get home and go back to his life without a borrower holding him back anymore. He didn’t need someone like Ian who couldn’t even borrow right in the first place. He shouldn’t have survived getting pulled away in the current back then.
The fox perked up more as Ian approached it. His entire world seemed to be slipping away as Ian walked away from him. Mikhail couldn’t breathe, his body was shaking. Ian would die and it was his fault. He didn’t protect him, he didn’t protect his family. He’d failed again…no he hadn’t failed yet. It was like something took him over and everything in the world looked…different. It was clearer, he could sense the feelings of the fox, the joy at the easy meal. His brother would never be an easy meal. Not while he was alive.
Ian was knocked on his back as something crashed in front of him. The world shook around him and he tried to think. He was terrified, something big just landed, where was Mik? Was Mik safe? He didn’t get to look before a shadow covered him, something huge surrounded him completely. His world was completely dark, is this something new humans figured out? Was this one of the things that hunted humans Mik talked about? His heart was racing, was his brother safe?
There was a loud rumble above him followed by the muffled sound of a fox barking. The rumble grew loud enough to be a clear growl. The fox yelped and Ian heard the bushes rustle again. He didn’t know what was going on, his panic rising. He needed to find Mik, make sure he wasn’t hurt. The thing around him started to move but came closer at the same time. When the light came in he wanted to get ready to run, but there was a humongous face above him. The face of the one person who always made him feel safe, even when he was scared. Mik.
Mikhail wasn’t sure what happened. He’d been huge and growling before he could think, fucking growling he never growled before. He slowly moved his hand, sliding his fingers to circle around the center. He needed to see that he hadn’t hurt Ian. When he saw Ian alive, the sweet scent of fear and strong cinnamon hitting him was still a relief. Fear meant alive, it meant he hadn’t accidentally killed his brother. Ian stared up at him, brown eyes filled with fear. He couldn’t believe he was even able to see him so clearly. He started to open his hand more and free Ian from the prison he’d made.
Ian had other plans. Once he recognized Mik everything became overwhelming. He stood up as fast as he could when Mik started to pull away and ran to the closest bit of finger. He was miniscule to his brother right now, but he didn’t care. Mik saved him, he always saved him and Mik was safe too. He leaned into the bit of finger, he wasn’t even tall enough to touch the top of it, but he didn’t care. He’d been terrified he’d lost his family again.
“Ian, are you alright?” Mikhail tried to be as quiet as possible. He’d never been this large around a borrower before. He didn’t want to hurt him. He tried not to let himself be distracted by how clear yet small Ian looked right now, and how quickly the sweet smell of fear grew stale. He almost cried when he saw Ian’s tiny head nodding as he seemed to try and snuggle closer into him. Mikhail had all his stress leave him quickly, his size slowly shifting down. Once he was only a few feet taller than normal, he used his claws to pick Ian up and place him flat on his hand. He pulled his hand close, careful to keep his claws from being near enough he could prick Ian.
Ian was happy when Mik put him in his hand. It made him feel safer, the fox could come back. As Mik pulled his clawed fingers away Ian crawled over and hugged one tightly. He felt the finger getting smaller, his arms reaching the edges of the finger slowly. Mik didn’t say anything as he started walking. Ian didn’t care, he just wanted to keep feeling safe. Mik bent over at one point, a claw carefully steadying Ian against the finger he was hugging. He wouldn’t move until Mik made him. He didn’t want to be away from his brother, even just in the same room wouldn’t be enough.
He heard a door open and close and the bag hit the floor. Mik didn’t even try to take his coat off and Ian was glad. It took only a few minutes before he heard the bed creak as Mik sat down. He was reluctant to pull away, but finally stared up at his brother’s face. He couldn’t read his expression, the yellow in his eyes overpowering the green. His mouth was open slightly and Ian saw fangs that he wondered if Mik knew about. He knew he was safe, even when he couldn’t tell what Mik was thinking.
“You aren’t scared?” Mik asked. His brother’s claw came close slowly and nudged his back. He turned to grab it and met Mik’s eyes, Ian saw them slowly go back to his green. He nodded and saw the relief replace the weird look he had before. Mik gently pulled the claw away and held Ian close to his chest. There was a rumble that started and he was worried it was the growl again.
“A-are you mad?” Ian asked, Mikhail was happy his face wasn’t visible to his brother right now. First he learns he growls, now he purrs. These mysterious ancestors had a lot more odd traits that Mandy never mentioned, he’d have to bring that up next time they spoke. He laid back on the bed carefully holding Ian over his heart. He was just about his right size now, just a few inches larger than his normal. Today was a lot more of a mess than it should have been.
“Apparently I can purr,” he answered. He waited for Ian to say something, the silence grating on his nerves. Then Ian’s quiet laugh filled the air. Mikhail started to laugh with him, after everything that happened he learns he can purr. The two laughed for a good while, then Ian started to squirm out from under Mikhail’s hand. He climbed over his chest, Mikhail holding his breath to help him with his path. He then slid down his shoulder and curled up next to his neck.
“Well your purrs are loud I’m staying here instead of your chest tonight,” Ian said snuggling closer to his brother. He was safe and warm and wanted to sleep. It was probably late too, maybe, he was still bad at times. “It’s warm and safe now…”
Mikhail felt his claws shift back and the purrs finally started to die down. Ian said he felt safe, which meant he hadn’t failed. Maybe he wasn’t as much of a monster as he always thought. He couldn’t be if he made someone like Ian feel safe. Although there was one more thing they had to settle.
“Ian…” he started. Ian squirmed to show he was listening. “Next time we take a bus, you’re riding in a chest pocket.”

Secret Gifts
Ian and Mikhail get fluff I did it. ty @alarcomet for reading this to confirm i did the fluff lol
Secret Gifts
Ian had been working on this for weeks. Ever since the bus incident, he wanted to give Mik something. He’d heard him on the phone talking with someone about sending gifts for the holidays. He wanted to give him something for them, even if he wasn’t sure what the holidays were. He’d spent a lot of time sneaking outside and around the house while Mik was gone too. He wanted this to be perfect. Everything was going well, until Mik came home and said he wasn’t going back for a few weeks.
Ian still needed some stuff to finish his gift. He didn’t even know when the gift was supposed to be given though. He wouldn’t let Mik see it until it was done. He was lucky to still find some flowers outside with the snow. The petals were all dried out so he just had to put it together, but he needed thread. Thread was something Mik would notice him going to get, he had to figure out how to ask for it or get him out of the house.
“Ian?” Mik asked. It made him jump. He’d been lost in his thoughts and he hadn't realized he’d walked into Mik’s room. “Is everything all right?”
“I-I’m fine!” Ian said.
He could tell Mik didn’t believe him. He turned around in his chair to face Ian better. Since that day on the bus he’d been less nervous about Mik at full size when he was on the ground. Mik got up and kneeled to be closer. He put one of his hands down next to him and Ian climbed on. He had started to find Mik’s hands comforting. Someone so big was always careful and kind with him. He had to finish the gift.
Mik pulled his hand up, curling his fingers over Ian. Ian stared at the ground as he left it, he felt safer in Mik’s hands than down there lately. Mik brought him up to the desk, flattening his hand so Ian could stand on solid ground again. He almost didn’t want to leave the palm, but he climbed off and started looking over what Mik had been doing. The desk was covered in papers that Ian struggled to make out. He hadn’t learned much reading yet.
“What are you doing?” he asked. He was genuinely curious, but if Mik started to ask questions he wasn’t sure he’d be able to avoid answering.
“I’m just writing some letters to some family,” Mik answered. “I’d rather not, but I unfortunately do want to keep up appearances with them.”
“Why keep up appearances?” Mik smiled and ruffled Ian’s hair. Ian pushed at the finger glaring up with fake anger. It made Mik chuckle, exactly what he wanted.
“They were my father’s family. Most of them aren’t great people, but there were a few decent ones. I at least keep in touch with them all and wish them well for the holidays.”
Ian made a face but nodded. He didn’t think it made much sense, but he wouldn’t expect to understand human families. He perked up when he realized this was his chance. He could ask what these holiday things are. He could find out when he had to get his gift done and give it to Mik. He just had to sound normal when he asked. He looked up at Mik, trying to make an innocently curious face.
“What are the holidays?” Ian asked. Mikhail felt his heart stop. This whole time he just assumed Ian knew about human holidays. He’d done nothing to let him ask or even try to offer explanations. It was already late in the month. Could he even go get anything for them to celebrate with?
“There are a number of holidays this month, many spent with family or friends. Personally I celebrate Christmas. Usually there are decorations put up and gifts prepared. Then the start of the new year roughly a week later,” he explained.
Mikhail watched Ian nodding and felt guilt eating away at him. There should be supplies at stores nearby. He’d never even thought of Ian when planning how to treat their home for the holidays. He didn’t have decorations usually, but with his brother here maybe he should. He could go out and get some small things certainly. He looked at Ian who had started trying to read the letters again and nodded to himself. He’d head out once these were finished. He’d be gone for a few hours at worst, but they’d have a much brighter home by the end of the night.
Ian was a bit bored as Mik worked away on the letters. He’d spoken like they didn’t matter, but he knew when Mik was doing important work. He just sat around waiting for Mik to be done, so he could try to get him somewhere a bit easier to sneak around. He’d started to feel his eyelids grow heavy, he might just go back to his place in the walls. Thumping on the desk made him jump, looking up to find an apologetic smile from Mik. Mik reached a hand down and ruffled his hair again before standing and shoving the papers in his bag.
“I’m going to send these out. I’ll probably be gone for a few hours. Will you be fine on your own?” Mik asked. Ian was ecstatic, this was the perfect chance. He’d just ask for Mik to set up the shows he likes and then he’d be in the perfect spot for what he needed to do.
“I’ll be fine, can you set up one of those cartoons again first?” he asked. Mik had a warm smile as he flattened his hand next to Ian.
“Of course.”
Mik took Ian to the couch in the living room and carefully slid Ian off his palm. He turned and started to set up the shows Ian liked, but he was focused elsewhere. He needed thread and that was kept in the kitchen in a drawer. When Mik taught him to borrow he spent a few days going over how to open drawers, he could get it. He’d almost missed Mik’s hand coming towards him, barely keeping his cool. When he didn’t know it was Mik, human hands were still scary. He held his hand around him and gave a small squeeze before pulling his hand away. Ian waved goodbye as Mik walked out the door.
He put his game face on and readied himself, sticking his hook in the soft couch to climb down. He had to hurry so nothing went wrong and he could finish it. He’d bring the gift out today, it seemed like the Christmas one was close at least. He slid down his string and had to fight to free the hook slightly. He always forgot how hard it was to get it free from the couch. He wrapped it up and ran towards the kitchen, quickly throwing the hook to the drawer handle he needed.
He pulled with all his strength and the drawer pulled open just a bit. That was all he needed. He climbed up the string quickly pausing on the handle to catch his breath. He hung the hook on the top of the drawer and wrapped the string around the handle before throwing it in. He climbed up on the part connected to the hook directly and climbed over the edge. When he got into the drawer he was relieved to see a spool of thread out in the open. He took as much as he could, some trailing behind him.
He would be back in the walls in no time. He just had to climb out, use his hook to close the drawer and head home. It would be easy, if he could actually get out of the drawer. He’d just assumed there was enough, but the string he’d thrown in was too high. He ran back to the spool of thread pushing it to the edge of the drawer. He started to climb it when he tripped, getting tangled in the loose threads. He tried to get himself untangled, but the thread he took mixed with the spool and wrapped him tightly. He was trapped.
Mikhail was relieved the trip took far less time than he estimated. The gift he’d ordered a few weeks ago could be brought in now that he’d wrapped it too. He hadn’t gone too crazy, a small tree for doll sets with ornaments the two could use together. He’d give Ian the most normal Christmas he could. When he opened the door he expected to find him asleep on the couch, not missing completely. He must have decided to head back to the walls. He walked in the kitchen to put everything down when he heard tiny grunts.
“Ian?” he called out. He didn’t want to assume anything bad, but he did feel his heart racing.
“Mik! I got stuck…” Ian called out.
He’d only made everything worse trying to get out while Mik was gone. He sighed when he heard the loud footsteps come closer. The drawer was slowly opened, light blinding him for a moment. Before he’d gotten his vision back, warm fingers wrapped around him. He was pulled out of the drawer and laid flat on a palm. He blinked quickly to clear his eyes, sending Mik a sheepish smile. Mik had an eyebrow raised, but he could see how he was searching for any sign Ian had been hurt.
“Ian, what on earth…?” Mik asked. Ian was brought over to a table that had bags piled up on it. He heard Mik’s sigh and felt awful. He was probably tired from all the human stuff he just did.
“I needed thread, but I got stuck when I realized I didn’t put the end of the hook string in enough and tried to climb on the spool thingy,” Ian explained. He refused to look at Mik’s eyes after that. He started to cry a bit, he messed it up there’s no way Mik would even take it now.
“Ian, you could have just told me. I would have gotten the thread out for you. I could have at least made sure you had the hook string right if you wanted to do it on your own.”
Mikhail couldn’t understand why Ian would do something like this. When he’d taught him how to get into drawers he also told him to make sure not to do it alone. It was risky with humans who weren’t aware of borrowers. He started to carefully free Ian from the string. When his fingers brushed against Ian’s face, he felt them get wet. Ian was crying, what could possibly make Ian cry right now. Did he get hurt from the thread? Had it been tighter than he thought?
“Ian what’s wrong? Are you hurt somewhere?” he panicked. He didn’t see anything wrong. He could get smaller to check a bit easier though. Before he could do anything, Ian started shaking his head. “Buddy, what’s going on?”
“I-I was t-trying to make you a gift,” he sniffled. “I heard you talking about gifts and wanted to give you one. I wanted to surprise you, but now it’s all messed up. I messed it all up, I’m a terrible borrower.”
Mikhail finished freeing Ian from the thread quietly. Then he pulled him close and held him over his heart. He waited as he heard Ian sobbing, rubbing his back gently. He’d learned by now when Ian cried none of his words got through. As the sobs finally died down he pulled Ian away and looked at him with a kind smile. Things were fine, nothing was ruined and he’d prove it.
“Ian, you aren’t a terrible borrower. You took a risk that had you been on your own and in a place you were hiding I’d doubt you’d have made. Nothing is ruined either, whatever you’ve planned is still a surprise. Needing supplies and having to get them with help doesn’t make a gift any less special,” Mikhail explained. Ian looked up at him with hope.
“R-really? I thought I had to do it myself, you kept saying you’d rather do it yourself when you talked about it,” Ian said. Mikhail chuckled and Ian tilted his head in confusion.
“Ian, that was me talking about wrapping the gifts I’d ordered for you. I wanted to do that myself. I can’t make or get everything I’d like on my own either. I had help for your gift, help is fine, it's the thought that matters.”
“So, I can still finish it and you’ll still take it?” Ian’s eyes were sparkling now, it was overwhelming to Mikhail.
“I’d always accept something from my brother.” Mikhail brought his hand close to his heart again before letting Ian off on the table. He returned to the drawer to grab the hook they’d left and carefully wrapped the string up. He placed it on the table next to Ian.
Ian grabbed it and started to fidget. Mikhail smiled and held his hand down next to him. He climbed on quickly and Mikhail moved his hand to the ground. He flattened his hand to the ground and Ian ran off quickly. It was seconds before his small form was back in the walls. Mikhail decided he’d set up their Christmas tree while Ian was gone. Grabbing the bags he’d brought in and moving them to the coffee table. The first thing he pulled out to set up was a ladder that could attach to the furniture. His aunt had made them and placed them all over the house when he’d first moved in. This set up wouldn’t take too long.
Ian was rushing to finish his gift now that he had the thread. He hoped Mik could use it somewhere as decoration. The petals all sewn on and finally staying in form he could bring it out. He was glad he’d chosen a ribbon to sew the petals onto, and that this was the one thing he’d learned from his mom before. She did this with flower petals they’d gathered from dying ones in their home. He took a quick look for Mik before finally pulling the ribbon and petals out of the wall. He was going to stick it under the couch when he saw Mik’s foot nearby. He yelped, hiding out of sight.
Mikhail heard Ian yelp and smiled. He was trying so hard to keep this a surprise. He stood up and shut his eyes, waiting for the feeling of himself falling as he shifted to Ian’s size. He opened his eyes when he knew he was done and went to the ladder he’d set up before climbing up to the coffee table. He sat down near the tree and spread of ornaments then shut his eyes.
“Ian, my eyes are closed and I’m on the table,” he called out. “I left something you could use to hide the gift in if you need it. Just let me know when to open them.”
He waited patiently as he heard shuffling from the floor below him. He heard a gasp and smiled, there’s no way Ian expected an easier way to climb up appearing now. He waited for the sound of footsteps on the glass of the table, a bit relieved once they sounded. There was more shuffling, like Ian was dragging something. Then he heard the crinkling of the bag he’d left out. He silently laughed as he thought of the year he’d gotten stuck this size around Christmas, the gift bags were a bit of a nightmare at first.
“All done, what’s all this?” Ian asked.
He waited for Mik to open his eyes, staring at the fake tree that he’d put on the table. Mik stood up and grabbed a few of the things off the ground. He handed one to Ian and brought him over to the plastic tree. He motioned for Ian to wait and ran off, hitting one or the remotes he kept on the table. Music started playing that he remembered hearing around now when he was younger. Mik came back with a big smile on his face.
“We’re going to decorate a tree and after this we have Christmas movies to watch. Christmas is well tomorrow actually, I hadn’t really thought of celebrating more than movies and the presents I’d gotten for you. I decided to run out and give us a better Christmas eve and Christmas,” Mik explained.
Ian’s eyes went wide at that. Mik said this was for family and friends. So that means he’s doing this because they’re family. His eyes started to water and he quickly wiped the tears away. Mik pulled him into a tight hug and he hugged back as tight as he could. Once they let go he followed Mik’s lead in decorating their tree. Once that was done they spent the night watching what Mik called classic Christmas movies. They all ended happily.
When Ian woke up he was laying on Mik’s chest, Mik back to human size. Mik must have moved to the couch after Ian fell asleep. He rubbed his eyes and sat up, planning to sneak off before Mik woke up. Instead he heard Mik groan a bit and turned to see his eyes opening slowly. He cupped his hand around Ian, yawning as he sat up. He put Ian on the table and reached under the couch pulling out a box filled with objects wrapped in paper. Mik set the objects around Ian before changing to match Ian’s size. He climbed up the ladder quickly, a smirk on his face.
“Merry Christmas Ian, this is what I’d gotten for you, go ahead and open it,” Mik said.
Ian nodded and walked up to one of the packages. He slowly started to rip it open and found a chair, made of wood and his size. He looked back at Mik in awe and rushed to the next one. Each package was furniture his size, but made of wood and not the hard plastic they’d been using. There was so much, he didn’t think he could even fit it all in the house Mik had gotten him. He could stop staring at Mik with wide eyes.
“I-is this really for me?” he asked. Mik smiled widely and nodded. He lunged at his brother, hugging him tightly. He never thought he’d get furniture that seemed made for his size like this.
“Mandy had a friend who made stuff like this for Maria and I. I had her reach out and make a new set to keep here for you, there’s a bit more coming. A better bed and other upholstered items. This was just what could be done in time for Christmas,” Mikhail explained. He was glad Ian seemed so happy.
Ian backed away from Mikhail slowly. His joy seemed to vanish slowly. He went and pulled the bag that he’d stuffed the gift in yesterday. He pulled it in front of Mikhail and then started to fidget. Mikhail waited for him to be ready to speak, he was sure this was worth waiting for. Ian looked around at the furniture and back to his own gift, Mikhail had concern hit him. Was Ian comparing their gifts?
“I-I think you should be human size f-for my gift,” Ian stutterd out. Mikhail listened, quickly sliding down the ladder and sitting on the floor before returning to his normal height. Ian looked up at him then stepped a bit away from his gift. “Th-this is for you Mik, Merry Christmas.”
Mikhail reached over and lifted the package carefully. He could see Ian wringing his hands, he was nervous about this. He pulled it out and found one of the neckties he’d been missing. It was a simple black tie that had now been covered in dried flower petals. He was astonished, where had Ian found flowers this late in the winter? He had no idea how to explain his feelings. It was probably the best gift he’d gotten in years. He may not wear the tie, but could already see a place in his office he could hang it up. It was amazing.
“I-it’s ok if you don’t like it,” Ian said. Mikhail put the tie down and picked Ian up. He held him close to his heart in a firm hug.
“I love it Ian, I want to keep it in my office at the school,” Mikhail said. Ian squirmed and Mikhail pulled his hand back.
“That’s what I wanted it for!” Mikhail laughed and laid down with Ian over his heart again.
“Merry Christmas, little brother.”

Results of Expectations Part 2
Back with part 2 cause i live having no chill (and writing is a way to be productively unproductive lol)
TW: Panic, sort of panic attacks, a bit (more) of dehumanization, Mentions of torture and starvation/dehydration, IDK What else as always please tell me
Part 1 | Part 3
Results of Expectations part 2
It felt like years of them all in her house. Ian was the first to finally leave, he said Mikhail needed him to help with a podcast. Mira pushed him out the door, hoping to encourage him while avoiding looking at the giant hand waiting for him. Alessia and Ash were next, Delphia called saying she had something that only they could do. She smiled as they left, Delphia wasn’t nearby which made it easier. Rhys stayed around for a few more days, but she sent him out to go get back to his vlogs and advice podcasts.
When she was finally alone in her house again, she curled up on herself. She should stop relying on them each time she panicked. Eventually they’d think she was too much and should just get over it like those giants she’d spoken with. She didn’t want to lose them. They were the only humans she knew, she’d stopped going out after everything. She did school online, got a degree online, started streaming because her life was online. Streaming had probably been a mistake, it opened her up to a number of giants. She thought she’d gotten better though. She could say things to Vitus and Dabria when they came by sometimes.
It felt like she had a set back once Ian almost got taken. An overzealous fan and crappy security had her brother nearly disappear on them. It was like the small bubble of safety she started to believe in popped. It could happen again and humans couldn’t stop it. She knew Mikhail had seen it and stepped in, that they wound up close by the end of the day. She couldn’t get past Mikhail’s size though. He could do the same thing to Ian, Delphia could do it to Ash and Alessia too. Rhys spends a lot of time with her too, they could all just disappear one day because of giants and she could never hope to save them.
She jumped as she felt the heavy steps of a giant on her street. She desperately wanted them to pass by quickly. It’s been sixteen years, why couldn’t she be better? The steps grew close and she felt herself shaking, please make them go away. They stopped for a minute, but she felt the step as it entered her yard. Vitus promised Dabria would wait a few days to come by still. She hugged herself tightly, please be a mistake, please leave. She screamed when a soft tap sounded on her door, she covered her mouth quickly. The giant would know she’s here, the giant could get her.
“Mira…” she recognized the voice. It was loud…too loud. She wanted to keep pretending he was human, it was the only reason she’d managed to get somewhat stable again. “Sorry for dropping by like this, I just wanted to make sure you knew. I’m doing a big stream tomorrow, I think you might want to watch. I have some others helping me, it’s not a game, it's something more important.”
She couldn’t make herself talk. She wasn’t sure she could even watch something he did. She said she wanted to finish the things they were doing, but hearing his voice made her question her resolve. She had felt his steps, it shook everything around her when he walked. She pulled out her phone, staring at the name she’d used for comfort for months. She typed out a quick message, a promise to try and hit send. His phone, his giant phone, played a noise. She could hear the sounds of fabric as he moved. It made her flinch, it was so much, how could anyone her size handle being around this?
“Trying is great, it’s perfect. I hope you manage it, I’ll uh message you after,” he said. She could picture the face he was making, she wanted the comfort the image used to bring. He helped her before, he didn’t know he was then. If he knew she was human how would he have felt when she started admitting her fears?
The footsteps started again, they were fast this time. Had he been slow for her? He was gone so quickly, she couldn’t believe he’d approached so slowly. The world was quiet and she stayed curled up where she was. She couldn’t get the sounds out of her head. The steps, the movement of fabric, it put her back in that place. She was waiting for the muffled voices and the talk about how she must have run away. The way the comments sounded so fake, like they knew where she was and they didn’t care. Her body ached as if the ‘games’ were happening only yesterday.
She climbed to her feet after a few hours of horrible memories playing through her mind. She was careful and slow as she moved, like a hand was about to shoot out and grab her. She managed to reach her room, then her bed. Collapsing on the mattress and curling up again. She wanted today to be over, to get back to the way she was feeling before she’d gone to meet Corus.
She took the time to read through messages. A number of comments of support for her unplanned hiatus. Well wishes from humans and giants alike. There were some comments from humans and giants saying pointless things. Other streamers jumped to defend her from those ones. The most vocal was Corus, he even kept the information he knew secret from what she could tell. Why did he have to be a giant? Why did she still want to reach out to him? Why did he have to be someone she got attached to so deeply? She let tears start falling, she hated her stupid heart and that Corus was a stupid giant. She cried until exhaustion finally pulled her into a nightmare filled sleep.
The next morning she woke up to hands shaking her. She blinked away the sleep shocked to see Rhys back. He dragged her out of bed without a word and pulled her out to her couch. His laptop was hooked up to the TV and she just gave him a strange look. He turned away and pulled up a stream, the one Corus told her about yesterday. It wasn’t like anything he’d done before, he was sitting with another person in more of a talk show set up. She opened her mouth to say something, but Rhys silenced her.
“Hey everybody!” Corus started his stream. He was more anxious than the first time he had a stream, but this was important. They put a lot of work into this. “Today’s stream is a bit different. Thanks for waiting while we got it all set up, first I want to introduce Mikhail.”
“We’re also recording this for What the Ghoul!’s news episode this month. Corus found something that needed a lot of attention. Corus if you’d like to start,” Mikhail said, gesturing to him. He took a deep breath before turning back to his camera, Delphia was there. Ash, Alessia, and Ian were there. This has to go well, it has to make it clear what none of them knew.
“Let’s start. First I know you guys know I moved recently, well I started searching the history of my new home. I found an article that made me sick to read. We’ve added links in the description, but it’s a hard read. The summary is a ten year old giant had decided they could treat humans like toys and this allowed a number of them to die. Survivor’s of the torture were traumatized, but that’s not the part that made these articles sickening. The whole tone of it was how humans ruined the life of this giant, but they killed people. I did more research, a number of reporters followed up contacting the giant and the survivors, but each time they said how the giant had been misunderstood. The giant was a kid who didn’t know any better. I don’t know about all of you, I knew not to lock people away at ten years old.”
“Following that, we have something to play for you all. Together we went to visit this ‘innocent child’,” Mikhail used air quotes as he spoke. “We recorded the conversation, we had to say some sickening things to get the person to open up to us now sixteen years later. We learned a lot of horrible facts from this and we’ll be playing this now. We do want to just get to the meat of this subject so we’ve fast forwarded. For anyone curious in hearing us play awful roles the full recording is in the description as well.”
“Ha, you think that story my parents told about not knowing was true?” the crackled voice started. Rhys grabbed Mira as the shaking started…it was them. “They knew the whole time it was why they started adopting humans. Humans from bad backgrounds running off was easy enough to assume. Especially when they live with giants. I wasn’t supposed to touch the last one though. They said she was pretty high profile and important because of how she wound up needing a home. I couldn’t help it, she looked so doll-like.” Those on and off camera flinched from the cruel laughter that started.
“I was enamored in a second, she was even better than the ones I’d grabbed off the street. Even better than the first one my parents brought me too. She had so much faith in giants, it was amazing. She didn’t bat an eye as I put her inside the lunchboxes I was using. Even after my parents came in and realized I’d already decided to keep her, they kept up the act just in case she got out and ran to them. They were going to give her right back to me. It was what they did with the first one they adopted. She didn’t realize she wasn’t getting out for a few hours, the quiet begging to go to her room was great.”
“So what did you do while you had her?” It was the first time anyone else’s voice had been heard since the recording started. She sat up straight, Corus had asked what they did to her. He said he understood, how could he ask that?
“I’d had plenty of practice with the others.” She shrunk back as the voice that haunted her started up again. “I managed to pull her joints out of their sockets a lot. It was a ton of fun. She kept begging to be let go promising to leave. She didn’t realize I wanted her to stay and keep begging and crying. Eventually she started to get boring though, she stopped reacting as much. I was pretty close to just shutting the box and not opening it again. I would have kept playing with her if she screamed for me like the one who ripped open the box. You said she’s still like that? I should ask my parents about another care package.”
“Care package?” Someone else, she couldn’t place it. That sick laughter had her hide her face in Rhys’s chest.
“Yeah, they knew it would be boring out here. They grab homeless humans, sometimes claiming how they are trying to ‘atone’ for me. Then they pack them up and send them here. Kind of funny how little they look into things you get sent from human inclusive towns while on the registry.”
“Ok I can’t do this anymore.” It was Corus again, was he sick of just listening to a monster? Did he plan to join in?
“Corus wait-” Mikhail’s voice sounded he must have been the one she couldn’t place, but wasn’t this the one Ian trusted? Why was he there? The sound of fighting played out. She flinched each time a crash sounded.
“You think you get to play with people like fucking toys!?” Corus sounded angry now, hadn’t he been on his side. “Where are the care packages you mentioned?! When did they start? How long have you been torturing people you sick freak!?!?”
She heard the sound of punching again. There were a lot of crashes and she could hear yells. She managed to look at the screen again, Corus seemed a bit bashful. She couldn’t help the bit of a laugh that escaped staring at his face. Mikhail seemed exasperated, how long was there a fight playing out? She heard Mikhail’s voice scream out stop, but the fighting wasn’t stopping. Corus was…violent.
“I’ll tell you everything just get him off me!” her tormentor screamed.
“He’d likely stop if you let us know where the humans are…” Mikhail sounded different. He was cold and cruel, nothing like how he’d sounded seconds before.
“They-” There was the sound of impact again. “They’re in my room, in the closet under the blankets!”
“Corus keep them handled until I get the humans.” She heard footsteps as she could only assume Mikhail walked off. There was the sound of struggling before running footsteps sounded out. “Corus go, we don’t have time. They’re all in bad shape. I’m not sure how they’re even alive.”
“It’s hilarious how far they’ll go when they don’t want to die.” The sick laughter sounded again, but it was cut off abruptly.
“You honestly think it’s funny to torture people. I’m going to make sure you pay for all of this, your parents too,” Corus spat. There was the sound of footsteps again. “Oh Mikhail, turn off the recorder, they don’t need to be on this.”
The recording ended and there was silence from the two giants on screen. Mira couldn’t help the need to grab Rhys’s shirt. There was a horrible feeling of hope that this time it might be different. That the people saved might get taken seriously. They won’t have giant reporters calling and making them relive it only to blame them for being scared. They can be afraid of giants and not face the years of constant hate mail and begging from that monster’s parents. Vitus and Dabria said they were still coming. One of the giant’s on the screen cleared his throat, she jumped leaning deeper into Rhys.
“That wasn’t my best moment,” Corus admitted, “but that was the start. We got the humans that monster had been sent to the hospital. They will need a long time of care, but they’ll survive. We contacted all the reporter’s the parents had contacted. Each one had tortured the survivor from the incident sixteen years ago. They believed the lies that a human just hated a misguided child, they never once listened to the words the survivor said. Once the police arrested their parents and the person we visited, we played them the recording. Each has refused to comment outside of, it’s hard to see the lies.”
“I’ve offered to allow each of them on my show to discuss the reason they blindly believed the criminal and then shamed the victim,” Mikhail added. “There was one thing they did have to say after that. They blamed it on the fact the victim had a traumatic experience prior to this. It was easier to blame her trauma than to believe a child or a whole family was that sick.”
“So exposing all this wasn’t our only goal here.” She didn’t know when, but she had grabbed Rhys’s hand and squeezed with all her strength. She couldn’t explain it, but she was getting more and more scared of the hopeful feeling she had. “We’ve set up a fund to help humans who need it who are scared of giants. There’s a lot of resources out there for giants nervous about humans, but the fact humans have every right to be scared or nervous seemed to have gotten lost. All the money we’re making off this stream and any listens to Mikhail’s podcast will go straight to that new fund.”
“I’ll be doing a week of streams coming up on Flower Oracle, along with some multiplayer games with PlantProtectors,” Delphia said as she walked on screen. Mira saw Alessia and Ash in her hands, they looked happy. It was probably the first time she ever managed to see the three of them. She smiled seeing it, but the bit of warmth it brought faded when the darker thoughts invaded, how easily Delphia could change. “NervousGamer and GodlyAdvice will also be running events this week. Our goal is to get this up and running as fast as possible. Things have to go both ways. Here on we’ll be taking questions from the chat about what we learned and why we got involved.”
She squeezed Rhys’s hands again. She didn’t think she could handle it if questions came up. She tried to speak, but she saw the first one pop up. It was about her, well her as a streamer. Does this have anything to do with PinkEyedMiracle’s recent break? All the questions coming in were about her and her career. Why isn’t she part of this? Is she the cause of this? Is she the human survivor? Is she one of the humans that was sent there? Is she part of the giant’s family? Is she the giant? Rhys pulled out his phone and dialed a number.
“Do you want to answer these?” he asked. She stared at the phone. The memories of those calls right after everything, the times Vitus and Dabria would be fighting for her after an article ran. She shook her head, Rhys smiled at her and put the phone away. “That might be better.”
“Actually, we didn’t ask PinkEyedMiracle, just like you guys none of us know too much about her outside of her streams,” Corus started. She actually pulled away from Rhys leaning towards the screen. For the first time since this event started she could only see the person she’d started to open up to. “We didn’t want her to feel obligated to jump in on this when we were sure a number of questions like this would pop up. Once she’s back we plan to ask her to run some streams for our new charity too.”
Rhys tapped her shoulder and tilted his head when she turned back. She nodded at him and he started typing on his phone. She watched a chat message appear from her account. Sorry I’ve been sick, I’m always happy to help a good cause. Let’s chat about it after the event! She sent Rhys a look that met his trademark innocent smile. He did this when she first joined her family too, stealing her login information to talk to Vitus and Dabria for her. He was a better brother than she’d ever say.
“...can we turn this off? I-I don’t think I can listen to them answer questions,” she asked. Rhys nodded, going to close the laptop. They froze as a commotion on screen sounded. Corus had stood up, he was shaking. His chair was pushed back and knocked over. Mira started shaking as she saw the angry giant on the screen. It seemed the part of her that kept him human in her mind was finally losing the battle.
“Alright, we’re ending the stream. I don’t know what’s with all these questions that seem to be pushing the blame. After everything we showed you, it’s sad you’re like this. You heard how they felt torturing her. Are you like them, do you think humans aren’t worth it? Mods, I want these people banned. I don't care how much of my audience you make up, I won't have anyone who looks down on or belittles humans here!” Corus shouted.
Mira stared at the screen until the stream ended. A giant actually got upset over humans being blamed. She never thought it was possible, they all would just turn on humans eventually. She walked away from Rhys shutting herself in her room. She slid to the floor, now that she wasn’t next to Rhys everything came flying back. That first night there, when the giant meant to be her sibling held her too tightly. When they put her in a box and she tried to laugh it off like it was fine. When she realized they hadn’t even said anything to her and she begged to get out.
Her mind raced as the following days played again. Waking up to a hand grabbing her and pulling her up too fast. Feeling nauseous and trying desperately not to be sick. Given next to no food or water, constant pain as they treated her worse than a doll. The day she finally gave up and how they hadn’t opened her box for three days. When she begged for food and water after that. She could still remember the panic when a larger hand came at her, she didn’t care who it was, it would mean more pain. Giants just treat humans as they please and they always will. Any giant could turn on a human in an instant, there’s no way to defend yourself.
She had the awful images that plagued her everyday pass through her again. Ash and Alessia stuck somewhere as the giant they claim loves them makes them suffer. Ian given away by Mikhail for being too much trouble. Vitus and Dabria throwing Rhys away or locking him up for expecting their care. A new one now, Corus showing up here again. Pulling her out as she screams and begs, locking her up just like when she was young. She fell to the side, laying in a ball as she poorly fought off the images in her mind.
She vaguely heard a door open, she couldn’t put together why she did or how long ago she’d heard it. Then there were steps, heavy earth shaking steps. She started shaking again, attention was brought to it all again. She’d be contacted, targeted, told how she was wrong for her fear. The steps were getting closer and she started to openly sob. Were the thoughts she had finally coming true? The steps halted too close again, she started crawling. She was desperate to hide from this giant. If she wasn’t easy to find they might go away, she might get to stay here. She jumped when the steps went to her backyard, no no no they were staying. The way her world shook as they sat nearly had her screaming.
“It’s me, little one,” a female voice said. She knew that voice…Dabria. Dabria is here. Where is Rhys? He was here, where did he go? Door, she heard a door, did he leave? Please be safe, if she gets caught and he doesn’t that’s fine. “Take deep breaths. You’re safe around me.”
Safe, safe, safe! How could she be safe? It wouldn’t take much for Dabria to turn on her. One wrong word or move and she’s done. She started crawling again, curling up as small as she could under her desk. Just wait for the giant to leave and things will be ok again. She can find Rhys and they can be safe. She needs to get the others too, they aren’t safe. Ian…Ian wasn’t on the stream! Where is he? W-would Dabria know? She had to find Ian.
“W-where’s Ian?” she tried. Her voice was quiet and she felt sure the giant near her would miss it. Instead she heard shuffling of fabric. Screaming when an eye appeared in her window. Red like blood, definitely wanted blood. She was shaking worse than before.
“I’m sorry little one,” Dabria said. She heard the shuffling again as the eye disappeared. “I had thought I heard you say something, but it wasn’t clear for me. I meant to get closer to hear you better not to scare you.”
Giants are liars. Dabria is lying. She wanted to find her, that was all it was. She wanted her to lock her away. The part of her not wrapped in panic and memories seemed to wake up then. Vitus had saved her, Dabria took her to the hospital. They fought each time a new article came out about the prejudiced human. Never touched her and even added a human house onto their own for her. She kept repeating the things they did for her until she managed to breathe normally again. She took a deep breath.
“Where’s Ian?” she called out. She squeezed her eyes shut expecting the shuffling again. It never came.
“He was with the others this morning, he didn’t want to be on camera. They made sure we were watching too little one.” She shivered, Ian was with giants and she couldn’t protect him. She couldn’t do anything if they turned on him. W-would Dabria or Vitus save him? Were they really good giants after all? “It was why I decided to come see you. We learned a lot we hadn’t known.”
They were mad now. They were going to make her pay for the kindness. She bit her lip to keep her sobs quiet. The giant seemed to be waiting for something. Maybe for her to come out? She wouldn’t make it easy even if she couldn’t get herself to climb to her feet. Instead a loud and pained sob rang out around her. Why would Dabria be sobbing? She’s mad isn’t she? For everything they did for her and she had been overreacting and should be over it. She should just be used to giants again already.
“I’m so sorry we never knew how horribly you were treated for that month,” Dabria cried. Mira’s shaking started to die down, the giant was sorry? “We assumed it was just you were locked away, maybe grabbed roughly, and starved. We never knew they tortured you like that. We would have done more to get you away from giants then. Found a human only town and helped you get there. I’m sorry we hadn’t done enough for you, please Mira if we can do anything more tell us. You’re our daughter, we want you safe and happy, even if it means we never even speak to you again.”
How could giants be kind like this? She could still see the one falling in front of her, crushing so many people. She could still see the sick smile that the kid had every play time. She couldn’t think of a single time Dabria and Vitus looked at her badly. They’d gotten angry, but their faces were always soft and loving. She didn’t want to keep being scared, she wanted to be able to face giants who cared about her. She was slow as she crawled out from under her desk.
She was moving slowly as she got to her feet. She felt like a newborn fawn, barely able to stay up. She had to keep reminding herself of the good things Dabria did. The kind ways Vitus sheltered her. It was the only way to take each step as she moved forward. At the window she heard a gasp, but forced herself to ignore it. She was panting, the idea of looking outside inducing a new bout of panic. She wanted to see her face, she could barely remember the way she felt before the accident and torture. She wanted to see Dabria and Vitus as her family again, not as giants or monsters. She was close to them before her parents died, they took her in every time she was left home alone. She held her breath as she finally turned her head up and up and up to meet Dabria’s eyes.
She fell to her knees as she stared into the giant red eyes. Dabria’s face came closer, she couldn’t stop her flinch. Dabria paused but continued to move closer, she could see the concern on the giant’s face. She was searching Dabria’s face, trying to find the hint of malice. There wasn’t any, just love and worry. They both just stared at each other for a long time. Dabria didn’t have a way to help her and she couldn’t move anymore. She almost wanted Dabria to stand and start walking to scare her into moving. The worry eventually morphed to a warm smile, she let out the breath she’d been holding as Dabria leaned away again. She was still hunched a bit looking into the window.
“You look well Mira,” she said. Mira couldn’t help the shaking that started, hearing a giant and watching one talk were two separate things. She slowly hugged herself as she stared up. It was Dabria, she was kind, she was good, she wouldn’t hurt her. “How can I help you?”
“I-I-I,” she tried, the words wouldn’t work. This giant…this person took her in and cared for her like her own child. She can at least say something while in her house. While somewhere that would take more effort to be reached from. She felt tears hitting her arms, she didn’t know she started crying. She watched the sadness behind the warm smile grow, why couldn’t she start to trust them? “I want…”
“Mom!” Ian’s voice called out.
Mira was snapped out of her thoughts as a fear crept in. Ian could be held against her. She watched as that sad smiling face turned away and faced her brother. She watched that huge arm move forward, her heart was pounding too loudly. She realized with horror that the sound wasn’t her heart, but footsteps. Another giant, she can barely handle the one that she wants to see. The hand came back and there was Ian, he was safe. He was brought to Dabria’s face hugging her nose.
“Ian, are you here to check on Mira?” Dabria asked, if he answered she couldn’t hear it. Just wait for him to get away from the giants then it’ll be fine. “Who is this? I don’t believe we’ve met.”
“I’m Corus, nice to meet you,” Corus said. It was so loud, she fell further. She couldn’t take her eyes off of Dabria and Ian though. She saw those huge eyes gaze towards her for a moment, a flash of understanding following. She saw the smile change before she returned her gaze to Corus.
“Nice to meet you, you were the one who started the fundraiser and all today?” She couldn’t see his reaction, but she saw Dabria soften. Her gaze switched back to Ian who seemed to have gotten comfortable against her face. “I think it’s best you head inside and I get going.”
She couldn’t hear Ian respond again, but felt her heart stop as the fingers curled in around him. Dabria is good, she’s good, she won’t trap him, she’s good. She couldn’t get the panic to die down as the hand started to move, stopping on the ground. She felt like she could breathe again as the hand opened completely again and Ian climbed off. She watched him run inside, snapping her eyes up again as Dabria moved.
She felt like she was watching a living mountain. Dabria and Vitus were both taller than most other giants. Before everything they had held her and she felt safe because of their size. She wished it could be like that again as she watched the face she’d been staring at go up until she couldn’t see it anymore. She watched as Dabria stepped over the human size house Mira lived in panic settling on her again. It would be so easy for Dabria to have an ‘accident’ like the one that took her parents. She jumped to her feet. She needed to get Ian.
She ran out of her room, barreling into her brother as he’d been about to enter her room. The two fell just in time for Dabria’s step to hit the ground over the house. She was holding him tightly as she waited for the footsteps to fade. Only one set, Corus was still here. She pulled herself and Ian up, he tried to make her stay still. He rubbed her head, that was the first time she’d seen a giant step over anything human in so long. She couldn’t help the assumption it would turn out badly.
Ian managed to get her up and to the couch. How were they so calm with her? Their lives included giants and none of them minded she was like this. She was hugging him tightly, she couldn’t break the image in her mind of a footstep landing closer. Crashing through her home and stealing the people she cares about again. There was the sound of shuffling again, a thump and she expected more to follow from Corus. He must be taking Dabria’s spot, she would never manage to stand like she did for her.
“Mira,” his voice was quiet now, almost like a whisper, “Ian should be able to let you know everything. I hope you’re not upset with what I did. I had a bad feeling after we talked, you deserved better and that creep deserved a lot more punishment. I’ll… I’ll be home all week, if you want to try talking again.”
She looked up at Ian, he had a calm smile on his face. The footsteps started, they were so fast. It almost sounded like he was running from her home. She furrowed her brows before pulling Ian closer. She can’t stop worrying he’d be taken, he’ll suffer like her. She knows he has people to protect him. Vitus and Dabria would kill any giant who dared to hurt him, but she couldn’t back away from her thoughts. They were worse when he’d been gone and everyone else was on that stream or with her.
“Where were you?” she whispered. Ian forced them both to be sitting and made her look at him. He looked so happy, she’d need to stop calling him when she panicked.
“I was hiding out in Mikhail’s hair the whole time,” he smirked. Her eyes went wide and he laughed. “I didn’t want to be on stream, but if they needed me I wanted to be there. I had a feeling you’d have a bad reaction to me being held, so I just hid in his hair. Corus brought me here after so we could be sure.”
“Sure?”
“Sure you were ok. Corus started panicking after he told you and got worse when Alessia said she sent Rhys to make sure you watch. He didn’t want you panicking like when you met him.”
She turned to stare out the window. He’d been gone for a while already. Why was this giant doing so much, caring so much? She just kept staring, Ian eventually got up and walked away. She couldn’t even think of why he would. At least, until he shoved a plate of food in her hands. She looked down at it, when was the last time she had eaten? She ate quietly, Ian typing away on his phone. This was the worst time she’d had since they saved her. How were they all ok with her like this?
“I don’t get it…” she murmured. Ian looked at her with his eyes wide, he’s always an open book. “Why are you all always here? Always ready to help me… I won’t even talk to the people you care about…”
Ian stayed silent and she understood. They were probably sick of it too. Ash, Alessia, Rhys, Ian, Vitus, and Dabria. She knew in her head that they were her family, but every time she heard Vitus and Dabria talk she was scared. Each time Ian, Ash, or Alessia talked about the giants they knew she panicked. Rhys has nearly closed himself off from giants to make sure she has someone. They should stop, she can learn to handle this on her own. She jumped when Ian’s hands held her cheeks.
“You’re an idiot. You’re my big sister, why wouldn’t I be here when you need me? We all care about you, Mikhail and Delphia do too. Corus was the one who went to them, turns out he knew Delphia and her podcast friend. He asked for help, they found out it was connected with you and took it further. The entire time Mikhail and Corus were getting that recording and the creeps handled, Delphia was starting that charity,” Ian explained. She pulled away, placing the food down and walking away from him.
She heard him sigh, but he didn’t approach. She just wound up watching as he took the dish back to her kitchen. She couldn’t put together how to feel, they were helping do all of that. They saw the articles and heard the claims that she’d been misunderstanding a child. There wasn’t a comment made about how she should have spoken up for them. She walked back to the couch staring at her hands thinking about everything. How could she respond to this?
“Mira, I’m heading out,” Ian called. She looked at him and waved, still not sure she could believe it was worth it to keep all of this going. She could so easily shut them all out. “Oh by the way, I think you may be making progress. You called them people.”
Ian left as she stared with wide eyes. She always called them people didn’t she? She tried to think of when she’d last spoken about giants to someone. She didn’t call them giants all the time…did she? Had she stopped seeing them as people at some point? Is that why she couldn’t stop seeing Corus as a human, he was a person to her? The idea she’d made them something other made her feel disgusting. She never meant for that, but she must have if Ian felt it was worth commenting on it.
She had to be sure. She pulled up her chats with everyone. Everyone that she would have a reason to reference others. Ian was first, each time he brought up Mikhail she just called him a giant. She switched to Alessia, then Ash, always calling Delphia a giant. She checked with Rhys, every time they spoke about Vitus and Dabria she called them giants. Not even their names usually. She pulled up the chat she had with all of them. She had to know for sure. She sent them a simple message, just asking how she refers to Delphia, Vitus, Dabria, and Mikhail all the time.
Each of them answered with what she was dreading. She’s always called them giants, even if it was about them together it was humans and giants. She tried to think of how she felt when she was staring at Dabria. She had to tell herself she was a person. It wasn’t something that felt normal or natural. Ian added she called them people today so she should be happy. It had to be progress, but he didn’t get it. She never knew she wasn’t calling them people. She had somewhere else to check, a journal she kept since moving out here alone.
She dropped her phone on the couch and bolted to her room. She ripped the book out of the drawer she kept it in, flipping through the pages. Every mention of them, she said giants. Sometimes she even called them monsters, how could she have done this? She should have known better, she needed to do something. Her home felt stifling, she grabbed her coat running outside without a second thought. That was apparently her mistake.

Secret Brother Pt1
New OCs let's go. Trying out something idk if I'll write more with these guys. Realizing some bit of traumatic past seems required in my ocs so far.
TW: mentions of abandonment. Later parts will have mentions of a borrower being treated like a pet this is entirely painted in how fuckin wrong it is and how it added to the trauma.
Part 2 Part 3 (Final)
Secret Brother Part 1
Everything started when Mikhail’s students were talking about some weird happenings in their dorm. Things were going missing and a voice was heard commonly late at night. They started to say they thought it was haunted. He offered to host a study session to disprove anything, making sure to bring his shoulder bag. It was easy enough to leave open on the ground and should be tempting enough for the ‘ghost’ to climb in. He kept a close eye out and sat near a wall he thought he saw a crack in. He was starting to worry that this wouldn’t work, until he saw a small form climbing up the edge of his bag. He didn’t like doing this, but he knew the students in this dorm were more likely to share their discovery. They were being too obvious here, probably someone who just struck out on their own. Now the dorm ‘ghost’ would be somewhere much safer and could learn the skills they needed.
Mikhail was anxious for the remainder of the session. He couldn’t be obvious for the sake of the one in his bag, and the others around him. He carefully placed his bag on his shoulder, opting to carry the books he’d used out as he continued speaking with the students. He rushed to his car, placing the bag safely on the floor of the passenger seat. He took the drive slower than normal, eyes constantly drifting to his bag. He parked and rushed straight to his door. Once inside he placed his bag on the ground, unzipped it, and pulled out a random book. He quickly walked off, settling down in a chair pretending to read. He was keeping an eye out for when his passenger left the bag. After an hour he decided to just leave the bag on the floor for a few days, give the little one time to get out.
It took a few days, but he finally heard the ‘ghost’ acting. It started with a clatter sound from his kitchen late at night. He held his breath, waiting for another sign. A voice that sounded somewhat young started mumbling. He wanted to get involved and help, but it’s never gone well in the past. He would just stay as an oblivious human and they could figure this all out. At least that was his promise to himself, but the little one was far from subtle. He could hear them talking to themselves on a daily basis, they were leaving messes, and worst of all they left trails back to their entrances. Mikhail had promised himself he wouldn’t get involved anymore, but he couldn’t leave this. He sighed, gathering what he needed to help out the inexperienced borrower.
He faked a phone call claiming he’d be gone for a few days then left shutting the door loudly. He went around to the back of his house, pulling out a fishing hook with a line attached and hanging it on the windowsill of the kitchen window. He’d left it open just enough someone the size of his guest could squeeze through. He focused on the feeling he’d grown used to over the years and watched the world slowly grow around him. In only a few seconds the world towered around him. He started climbing quickly, a little out of practice since he’d gotten his size under control.
He squeezed through the open window, reminding himself to open it just a bit more next time. Once inside he froze, he never once considered the borrower might recognize him. He considered squeezing out the window again, but was stopped before taking a step. He heard a small clatter, and saw a poorly made paper clip hook fail to catch. He heard a groan from below as the paper clip fell from the counter. He just had to hope they wouldn’t notice the similarities between the human they were living with and the new borrower in the house. He took a steadying breath then marched to the edge of the counter. The borrower was already murmuring to themselves, it was clearly a problem.
“You know you’ll get caught talking to yourself like that right?” he called down. The source of the failed hook screamed, clearly not expecting anyone to be here. Mikhail hadn’t been wrong, this was definitely a kid. They were probably a teenager, and honestly didn’t look like they’d had an easy time. He took his own hook, placing it down and throwing the string off the edge. “Climb up and we can talk. Don’t want to be too loud in case the human is around.”
The kid had no hesitation climbing up, that much trust could be dangerous. Although most people this size trusted each other almost blindly. They were worn out and panting once they were at the top of the counter, clearly new to borrowing. Had he accidentally kidnapped a young curious kid? He’d find out if anyone else was there once he’d trained the kid a bit. He gave them another minute before finally starting with his plan.
“Kid, why were you making so much noise? Half of being a borrower is being quiet especially when out in the open.” he said. The kid opened their eyes and Mikhail realized he’d made a mistake. Their eyes were watery, they must have been terrified. The kid sniffled a bit as they finally got their breath back.
“I-I didn’t mean to,” they said, “my parents didn’t really teach me how to borrow yet. W-we were on our way to a new home when a storm hit and I got separated. I wound up here by accident. I climbed in the human’s bag, I thought I saw loose threads I could use, along with some food. Th-they closed the bag on me and I wound up in this house.”
“Where were you before?” Mikhail asked. He wondered if there was a chance he could find the kid’s parents at the school.
“I’m not sure, I was dragged by water for a long time. When I got out of it I-I ran to the first building I found. I’m pretty sure they got dragged away too...” the kid’s voice was quiet. They seemed to know they weren’t going to find their parents. It sounded like there may be more to the story the kid didn’t want to mention yet. Mikhail would do everything he could to make sure they could survive on their own. He was getting attached already and he hated it.
“Well I was planning to stay here for a few days before moving on again,” he started. “I can teach you the basics. I happen to know you picked a pretty good human to live with. This one doesn’t tend to investigate small noises, but he has gotten curious from times I took too much.”
“Wait wait, you'll teach me? W-why? Isn’t it better to just move on and leave me to whatever happens?”
“Who told you that?” Mikhail’s voice went icy. The kid lost their family and just needed some guidance.
“Well, I uh, I met other borrowers who always said that. Then my parents too...sometimes.”
Mikhail was ready to scream hearing that. He’d dealt with people like that a lot since he lost his parents. He wrapped his arm around the kid’s shoulders and pulled him into a half hug. They froze but soon melted into the contact, he started rubbing his arm on their arm to calm them. The kid started to cry and Mikhail just let them. He knew they were safe and later, he’d say they should be careful. He let them go as long as they wanted, he knew sometimes you just needed times like this. The kid was the first one to pull away, looking a bit ashamed as they did so.
“I’m sorry about that,” they said. “We were lucky the human didn’t come back, I could have gotten us both caught. I-if this is where you usually live I can leave. I don’t want to put you at risk.”
“I offered to teach you, didn't I? No one has to leave, besides I tend to be a bit more nomadic. My name is Mik, he and him,” he said.
“I-I,” the kid shook his head, “My name is Ian, he and him too, I think. Are you really all right to teach me?”
“Don’t worry about the he and him thing too much, if something else feels right just tell me, ok Ian?”
Ian nodded his head. Mikhail took the time to really assess him now that he didn’t have to worry about being an accidental kidnapper. He didn’t look like he’d had much to eat recently, although that wasn’t uncommon for borrowers. His clothes were a bit baggy, and needed some patching. Mikhail may try to pull some tricks with his shifting to get him some better clothes. Ian seemed to be at least a full inch shorter than Mikhail, which wasn’t reassuring if they ever met when he was human.
“Ian, how old are you?” he finally asked. He needed an idea before deciding the next steps.
“I-I’m seventeen, or well I’m almost seventeen.”
Mikhail nodded, a little surprised he was that old. Ian was just a teenager after all. He knew what to do then. First they’d make a better hook, then practice having it catch on tables and counters. Then how to grab supplies without leaving a trace. He’d leave him with the fish hook once the few days he gave himself were up. The fish hook and line is sturdier, and would last with fewer replacements longer. Perfect for someone still just learning, plus he could just start a collection of random hooks to leave out.
“All right, here's the plan,” Mikhail explained. It didn’t take more than that for Ian to get excited. He trailed behind Mikhail hanging on every word, mouthing the important things. Mikhail felt like he had a little brother with how this was going. He couldn’t deny that he was enjoying being with Ian like this. It’s been a while since he really spent time with people outside of work. By the time the weekend ended and ‘Mik’ had to move on, neither was happy with it. Mikhail knew Ian would get better without trouble, but he didn’t want to leave him alone.
They were sitting in Ian’s home, set up a lot better with the supplies they grabbed safely over two days. Ian had gotten into a habit of staying almost on top of Mikhail while in the home, like he thought he’d disappear. It left Mikhail with a sour feeling, knowing he had to leave the kid at least for the week. He jumped a little as that thought crossed his mind. He could, probably, keep this up on the weekends. Eventually Ian would see the human’s face and he may put two and two together, until then he could keep this up. He’d only come back until he was positive Ian wasn’t being reckless, if he went a week without seeing him then ‘Mik’ would come to say goodbye. It would work fine and then Ian wouldn’t have to deal with everything that’s happened alone.
“Can I go with you?” Ian asked, it knocked Mikhail from his thoughts. Mikhail looked at him with a sad smile shaking his head. “Why not? You said I was doing well. I can get used to being an outdoors borrower. Or, or just a traveling one or whatever. Please?”
“It’s too dangerous. Maybe when you’ve improved more. I don’t want you taking risks you don’t have to. I was told the same thing by the person who taught me everything,” Mikhail explained, he knew he couldn’t just abandon him. “I can try to come back though. I help keep some others connected, but I’ll come back, I promise.”
Ian grabbed him tight into a hug, the promise barely keeping him together. Mikhail knew it was a dumb idea, but he couldn’t do it. He’d promised himself not to get involved with borrowers again after the last time, but he never expected to find a kid who had no one. Once Ian could take care of himself he’d tell him the truth and then deal with the consequences. For now he’d help him stay safe. Ian fell asleep holding Mikhail in a tight hug. He knew he shouldn’t stay like this, but it was nice to be with someone else. After a few hours he knew he had to leave. It was Monday so he had to be a human again and go to work.
He slipped out of Ian’s grasp, careful not to wake him. Quietly he grabbed the hook that they’d fashioned out of some threads and a paper clip, leaving Ian the one that he’d brought. He snuck through the walls until reaching an entrance that he’d leave open just enough to come in through again. Once out of the walls he focused on shifting back to his human size, the world slowly matching him again. He quickly made his way to the front door, keeping an eye out for anyone awake right now. He snuck in quietly, trying to avoid being loud enough to wake Ian up. He collapsed on his bed, turning his phone on with an alarm set for the class that started in a few hours.

Testing Boundaries
More for the new brothers. Sadly can't write much happy for them yet. I'll try though.
Testing Boundaries
It had been a few weeks since Ian found out Mik was a human, or well Mikl said he was a sizeshifter. Ian felt a bit weird about everything honestly. He had never expected to see anyone else his size again, let alone a human he thought he could trust. Mik was spending a lot of time his size to help him too. It felt like he was cared about, it felt nice. Now he just wished he trusted Mik as a human a little bit more. He didn’t think he’d do anything bad, but a part of him didn’t want to fall for any tricks like he did with the bad human.
All of that weighing on his mind, Ian started testing boundaries. He was going as far as he could in every way. He was ignoring Mik when he’d call for him. He was borrowing food and supplies instead of asking or taking what was left out. He also knocked things down he knew wouldn’t matter. Overall just being a lousy borrower and maybe a lousy brother, although he pushed that thought away. He just needed to see what would happen if Mik actually got mad. It probably wasn’t his best idea, but really he hadn’t had anyone around long enough to think of better methods. He was more encouraged when Mik stopped getting to his size.
Nothing was making Mik angry though. Ian had tried pretty much everything, so he knew he had to step it up. Mik spent a lot of his human size time sitting at the desk in his room. Ian knew this would be where he could finally find out how Mik would act when angry. He climbed up and started looking for something to steal or mess with, anything that didn’t seem super important. He saw some papers that didn’t look like when Mik left notes. Ian couldn’t actually read what the paper said, he hadn’t been taught how. If Mik didn’t act differently after this, maybe he could ask him to help him learn how. He grabbed one of the smaller pens Mik kept on the desk and started to draw on the papers. He was focused on his task when he heard the bedroom door hit the wall. He looked at it with wide eyes, holding his breath as he met Mik’s eyes.
Mikhail hadn’t had an easy week. Ian was leaving messes all over the place, which Mikhail had to clean up. Ian had refused to come out when he was human size too. It didn’t help that he'd put off a usual assignment that involved a dinner here. He didn’t want to bring humans home when Ian wasn’t even aware it could happen. He settled for an early exam, which he’d have to spend all day grading. At least once that was over he could try to find Ian and talk to him, maybe have him stop acting out and avoiding him. At least he hoped he’d feel relaxed enough to shrink down.
He sighed as he opened the door, wincing when the door slammed on the wall. He didn’t even realize he’d put that much power into opening it. He sighed eyes drifting towards his desk, freezing when he noticed the small form there. He was going to speak, until he noticed the pen being held tightly and the ruined exam on the desk. Mikhail was finally angry at Ian. He wasn’t sure why Ian was doing this, but he couldn’t tell if it was the answer sheet or a student’s exam. The kid had been through a lot, and Mikhail tried to understand, but this was a step too far. Mikhail tried to calm down, taking deep breaths, but felt himself shoot up a few inches. At this point, staying in the house would make things worse. He stalked over to his desk, trying not to react to Ian’s trembling.
“Off the papers,” he growled. Mikhail didn’t have any patience right now. He’d take the papers, stick them in his car then go calm down. He’d probably deal with grading them in his office at the university. Ian scrambled back, clearly terrified of his currently human sized brother. Mikhail hated seeing him scared, but he wasn’t calm enough to talk with him right now. Mikhail barely softened when he saw that it was only the answer sheet. He grabbed the papers once Ian was off of them and quickly left the room. He grabbed his bag and shoved the papers in with little care. He grabbed his keys and left, wincing a bit when the door slammed as he walked out. He needed to cool down, after he graded the exams he’d talk with Ian about everything.
Ian was terrified. Mik had never looked at him like that before. He might have gotten bigger too, which made it even worse. Mik took the papers, was he even going to come back? The first time the bad human got mad like that, he came back with a more secure cage. Maybe Mik left to get a cage...no, no, Mik wouldn’t do that. Mik just left like when he went to that school place. He’d be back like normal, Ian would apologize and things would be fine again. Ian was tempted to just stay here and wait, but he didn’t feel safe enough for that. He made his way back to his home in the walls, curling up on the bed they’d made there. Mik would be back and they’d talk.
Ian slowly opened his eyes. He couldn’t remember falling asleep. He slowly made his way out to the human bedroom, but it looked like earlier. That meant Mik hadn’t come back. Ian felt tears pricking at his eyes, he must have made Mik really angry. He went too far and Mik wasn’t going to come back. He climbed on to Mik’s human bed, curling up on one of the pillows there. Mik had said this could be a bed out here for now. In case Ian got scared, he had a place that was his out here. It was nice to have somewhere he fit in Mik’s human room. He started to cry, curling up tighter and hugging himself. Mik had to be coming back, Ian would probably be all right if he came with a cage too. At least he still had someone there.
Mikhail had fallen asleep in his office while grading. He’d calmed a lot after getting here and decided he’d finish the papers then go home to talk with Ian. He wanted to give Ian his full attention to solve this. He had meant to be back sometime around midnight, but when one of the janitors knocked on his door in the morning, his blood ran cold. He rushed out with a quick thank you and to enjoy the weekend on his way. He had to get home and check on Ian, he’d left so angry, he felt like an idiot. He shouldn’t have let it get to him, Ian is just trying to figure out things. Ian couldn’t have known he was stressed, or that the paper was important.
He was rushing home when a thought popped into his head. Going home and talking wouldn’t solve the issues. Ian had gotten worse when he couldn’t shrink down, but when he was stressed it took a lot to stay human sized at all. He drove past a store when he got an idea. Maybe he could show Ian that even when Mikhail was human sized, he still mattered. He pulled him quickly, hoping they had what he wanted.
Ian had fallen asleep on the pillow. It was wet where his head was, he must have cried a long time. The sun was up and Mik still hadn’t come home. He wanted Mik to come back. He shouldn’t have written on the stupid paper. He curled up tightly again just staring into space. He couldn’t bring himself to go anywhere this time. He could stay here and pretend Mik had left the pillow out for him last night. He figured this time he’d go to sleep by choice, closing his eyes and hoping he’d wake up and the last day was a dream. Then the front door opened.
He froze, he wanted Mik back, but he might also still be mad. He should hide until he knows, but then Mik might leave again. He couldn’t decide what to do, fresh tears pricking his eyes. He didn’t know what was better, he didn’t want to be left behind even if it meant Mik became a bad human. He had barely decided when he heard the door crash into the wall again.
“Damn it,” Mikhail whispered. He wasn’t being careful, he was too focused on the image of Ian curled on the desk scared in his mind. His eyes focused there first, almost relieved he didn’t see the boy curled up. He looked around the room, hoping for a sign and almost missed the small boy on the pillow on his bed. He rushed over falling to his knees, relieved he was even still here.
“Ian, buddy, are you awake?” Mik’s soft voice surrounded him. Ian was too scared to move. He came in angry like when he left, he didn’t want to be punished. He felt a warm hand cup around him, and he yelped. “It’s ok Ian. I’m so sorry I left like that. I didn’t mean to be gone all night, I fell asleep working in my office. I was angry and wanted to get the work done so we could talk this weekend.”
Ian slowly looked up at Mik. He didn’t look like he was lying, but the bad human hadn’t at first either. This was Mik though, maybe he could believe it. He sat up and inched away from the hand that had settled near him. Mik frowned, but didn’t move to touch him again. Ian hugged himself, waiting for the punishment about the papers. He was happy Mik was here, but he knew better. Mik couldn’t just be back and not angry anymore. There had to be something coming, right?
“Buddy, give me a second all right? I stopped at a store on the way home. I got something for you.” Mikhail went back out to his car, making sure not to shut the doors. He didn’t want Ian to think he’d left again. He grabbed the box, a silent prayer to anyone that this would help. There had been a lot of options, but this had the best layout for their situation. First he’d talk about how Ian has been acting then show him the gift. He moved carefully going back inside, shutting doors quietly. Ian was on the pillow shaking. Mikhail almost dropped the box, clearly this had been worse than he thought. He sat down on the ground in front of the bed, placing the box to the side.
“Ian, buddy, why are you shaking?” he whispered. Ian just seemed to get smaller. Mikhail felt guilt eating at his heart, what happened while he was gone? He saw Ian try to look at what he’d carried in and things clicked. His eyes went wide. “Oh, oh no, Ian. Ian, please look at me. God I’m an idiot please buddy.”
Ian was scared, he didn’t want to see what Mik brought. He knew Mik was better than the bad human, but he could be like them if he wanted. Ian slowly turned to face him, hugging himself tighter. Ian looked into Mik’s eyes. He looked...sad, guilty maybe. Ian stopped shaking, confusion overtaking his fear. He watched as Mikhail’s face shifted to something he couldn’t quite understand. Ian wasn’t sure if it was a good thing, but didn’t look away. He watched as Mik reached down next to him picking up the box.
“W-what’s that?” he asked. He meant to stay quiet, but he couldn’t keep his curiosity under control. He didn’t want to hear Mik tell him he bought a cage. He saw Mik smile wider making a shiver go down his spine. This was what he wanted though, wasn’t it? For all the pretending to stop. He had almost believed it wasn’t pretend though.
“Well, I was trying to think of something to help with how things were going with us recently. So I picked this up on the way home. What do you think?” There was a long pause and Ian wasn’t sure why. “Buddy, I can’t really get your opinion with your eyes closed.”
Ian didn’t realize he’d shut his eyes again. He swallowed thickly, then slowly opened them. He could barely process what he saw in front of him. The box showed a house, with open doors, but the roof was taken off. It seemed like it had only one floor and a couple rooms to it. It looked just like a small house. Ian sat there staring, he couldn’t believe this was what he was being shown. Shouldn’t it be a cage? He had been causing so much trouble. Isn’t that what Mik meant?
“I wanted to get something for now, we can pick out a nicer one online later. After how things went this week, I thought you might feel better with a spot out of the walls that’s your own. I’d meant to spend some more time picking out the first one, but after yesterday I thought it would help. So I stopped and grabbed this” Mik moved the box up a little, looking away. Ian couldn’t believe this was real, it was a present for him.
“W-why?” Ian asked. “A-aren’t you mad at me? F-for how I was acting”
Mik put the box down again, then placed his arms on the bed with his head on top. Ian stepped back a bit, falling on the uneven surface. He saw Mik’s green eyes filled with something he couldn’t understand. Is this where he finally found out the truth? That the house is for when he’s good or something.
“Ian,” Mik’s voice was serious, “even if I’m mad nothing bad is going to happen. I’m not going to hurt you, maybe take the TV away or something, but nothing you need. I definitely won’t take your freedom away. You thought I’d brought home a cage didn’t you?”
Ian shrunk in on himself while nodding. Mikhail couldn’t blame him. The human left angry then came back with something for him. He felt stupid, he hadn’t considered how that might sound. This wasn’t going to be an easy adjustment for either of them, but maybe this could reassure him at least. Mikhail slowly pulled his hand out from under his head and reached toward Ian. He moved slowly, giving Ian ample time to tell him no or show discomfort. He wouldn’t push anything right now. As his hand got closer he saw Ian flinch. He stopped and just left his hand where it was.
“Ian, I told you, you can set the rules for how we do things. I’m not able to get your size right now or I would, I know that makes this easier.” Mikhail hated when his emotions ran high. He wanted to make Ian feel better right now, and human height isn’t helping. Ian didn’t seem to react. Mikhail tried to think of what he should do. He could just leave him in the room on his own. Although they still had to talk about the messes and the papers it could wait. “All right bud, I’ll lea-”
“W-wait,” Ian called out. “C-can we set up the house?” Ian watched Mik’s face soften, a warm smile forming.
“Of course, where were you thinking?” Mik asked. Ian looked away, unsure how Mik would feel.
“C-could we put it on the table there?” he pointed to the nightstand Mikhail had put the pillow on the night Ian had told him about his past. His eyes went wide, but he looked at Ian warmly.
“Sure, just let me know if you ever want it moved,” he said. Ian felt a sense of relief come over him. It wasn’t only all right he wanted to stay near Mik, he could change his mind. He moved closer to the edge of the pillow so he could watch Mik open the box. He pulled out the house that looked like it would take up the whole table, and a roof that was separate. Mik placed the house on the table then carefully put the roof on top. He inspected it for a second before pulling the roof off again and turning back to Ian.
“All right, so here's the more fun part,” Mik said. “It comes with a bunch of furniture to put inside, if you want to head over I’ll put down each bit as you tell me. Just need you hanging out in the house so you can tell me where it all goes.”
Ian jumped up, more excited than he expected. Only to lose his footing on the pillow again. He fell forward this time, and completely off the bed. He closed his eyes expecting the hard floor, but landed on something warm. He opened his eyes and saw Mik staring down in concern. Mik didn’t say anything though and carefully held his hand up to the table so Ian could climb off. The two spent the rest of the day setting up Ian’s house.
They did talk eventually, but Ian stayed in his house and Mikhail sat looking in from the floor. Mikhail couldn't help the smile he had that Ian was talking while he was human, they’d figure this out.

Secret Brother Pt3 (Final)
Ending for Ian and Mikhail.
TW: mentions of abandonment. This part specifically mentions pet like treatment. It is painted as how wrongly Ian was treated Mikhail does not stand for it.
Part 1 Part 2
Secret Brother Part 3 (Final)
Ian was shaking his head mumbling no. Mikhail almost wanted to laugh at himself. He was so upset about everything, he didn’t even have to worry about growing right now. He took a step towards Ian who matched with a step back. He let out a deep sigh and sat down on the table waiting for Ian to approach. Ian just started pacing, clearly unsettled. This went on for a few minutes.
“Ian, can we talk?” Mikhail asked. Ian looked at him, eyes wide with fear. This is exactly what he was dreading since he first shifted to help out. He hated the fear borrowers always had when it came to him changing sizes.
“Why should I talk to you? I don’t know you at all.” Ian tried to sound fierce, but fear was seeping through.
“Ian, just because I can change my size doesn’t mean anything else is different. I’m still the same Mik who helped you.”
“You’re Mik?!” he screeched. All right, if Ian was willing to interact after this he was teaching the kid to focus on details. There wasn’t any other way for him to know his name. It was also kind of funny to hear just shock about it, Mikhail started laughing. “Don’t laugh at me! How was I supposed to realize!?”
“Buddy, I’m not laughing at you, it’s just funny. Here I was so sure you’d figured me out. That I had no options to avoid telling you now, but I could probably have played it off until next week when I was planning to talk to you.”
“So-so you’re the human, so you don’t need to be protected. So this was a waste,” Ian looked at Mikhail with a mixture of fear and acceptance. “W-What do you plan to do with me now?”
“Well we can talk, you can tell me about this human that scared you. You can just go back to the walls and I’ll leave you be. We can keep going like before if you want. You can move and I’ll help you or you can move on your own. Next steps are up to you. I’ll follow your lead, I know the fact I’m human sized most of the time can be troubling.”
“What will you do if the bad human shows up?” he asked.
“Keep you safe.”
“What if I ran away from them, wouldn’t most humans give me back?”
“Nothing will make me change my mind. You’re a person and from how you acted it doesn’t sound like they treated you like one.” Mikhail was positive he wouldn’t let Ian get caught by that person again. There isn’t anything Ian could tell him to make him change his mind. He wasn’t going to encourage Ian thinking he didn’t have choices. Ian was a person who could make his own decisions.
“Fine, I'll tell you what happened with the bad human. We’ll see how serious you are after that.” Ian moved closer to sit in front of Mikhail. His face was more serious than he’d seen until now. It made him nervous, this wasn’t an easy story it seemed.
“I lived in the house with the bad human and their family pretty much my whole life. My family didn’t like how curious the child was and had been talking about moving for a few years. When my mom got pregnant, my dad decided I should start borrowing. He didn’t want her out, and wanted me to be able to get supplies we needed once the baby was born. It went fine at first, I’d practiced a lot, but I was seen. I told my parents and we packed up everything, they’d been prepping for that for a long time. They didn’t want to risk staying with the curious human child so we left the same night. It was raining and I got caught in a current. My dad held my mom back from trying to help me. He said it was better to let me live with the consequences, it was my fault we were moving anyway. She fought against him, but the current was strong and I was pulled under. When I woke up I was in a room I recognized. It took me a few minutes to realize I was also in a cage.
“That was the bad human’s room. At first they were nice, they said they were just keeping me there so I wouldn’t get hurt. After a week I started to ask when I could leave. They would play up this idea that I would be in too much danger. One day I decided to try to leave, they hadn’t taken my things so I could open the cage pretty easily. Apparently while I’d been out they found all the entrances in the room and blocked them off. The human was angry when they came back. They took everything, but my clothes that day. Then I started getting punished if I acted wrong. Days without food and water, sometimes they’d leave a sheet over the cage so I couldn’t tell any time. A few times other borrowers showed up, they promised to help me usually. I would point them to an exit and never see them again. I can’t blame them, I probably wouldn’t risk capture by a human who kept an underfed borrower.
“I’m not sure how long I’d been with them, but eventually they started talking about some project. The human took me with them to that building. They kept saying something about the perfect topic. I’d been behaving for a while so they’d started making mistakes. They left me on their desk along with some other things. I stole what I could to make a hook and tried living in the walls,” Ian took in a shaky breath. Tears were falling down his face as he spoke. Mikhail was trying to stay calm as he listened, ready to go find the cruel person and show them how being caged felt.
“Then there was the day you showed up. I’d been listening to the bad human a lot and they were planning to try and capture me again. I knew climbing in your bag might be a bad idea, but you didn’t live in that building. I didn’t want the bad human to get me again. I figured once out I’d either make it work in the new human home or die trying.”
Mikhail couldn’t hold back anymore. He stood quickly walking over to Ian. He fell to his knees in front of him, pulling him in to a tight hug. He felt himself grow a bit, the desperate need to keep Ian safe taking a bit of control. He fought himself to keep close to Ian’s size, now wasn’t the time to loom over him. Ian froze, but soon turned into Mikhail’s chest crying. He grabbed the cloth of the shirt in tight fists, letting out everything he kept inside. Mikhail held him tightly until he’d worn himself out. Ian had started to fall asleep, it made sense and Mikhail let him. This was a rough night and he deserved some rest. Ian’s world was changed a lot. As Ian fell into a deep sleep, Mikhail moved to get them both off the table. He had grown carrying someone before, although this was the first time in a long time.
He sat at the table edge with Ian in his arms and focused on getting back to human height. He watched as the boy got smaller, sliding him off into one palm as he reached his human height. He slid off the table trying to be quiet enough for the borrower in his hand. He watched for any signs he woke up, then turned to grab the hook off the table. Mikhail took slow, steady steps to his room. He wanted to let Ian sleep, he’d clearly been on edge for a while. He placed the hook on his palm next to Ian and used his free hand to pull a pillow off his bed. He placed it on the nightstand and carefully slid Ian off on to the plush pillow. Ian curled up smaller, tempting Mikhail to lift him back up. He grabbed a shirt from his dresser laying it over the borrower, he placed the hook just out of the way in case he moved in his sleep. Mikhail wouldn’t let Ian think he was trapped.
Mikhail got into his own bed, facing Ian with a sad smile. He’d been through a lot, it wasn’t fair he’d had to deal with all that. He would make sure whichever student it was didn’t have a chance to get near him again. He felt himself slowly drifting off to sleep, hoping Ian wouldn’t have run off tomorrow morning. His sleep was dreamless and he was thankful. He wasn’t happy when he was woken up by someone banging on his front door. He opened his eyes, sleepily looking towards the pillow. He couldn’t tell if Ian was still there, he wanted to check, but more bangs came. He sighed knowing he couldn’t take the time to talk with Ian while this was going on.
He slid out of bed and stalked over to his front door. He wasn’t expecting anyone he knew to be there and was ready to yell at the rude solicitor. He opened the door, getting far more annoyed when a student pushed past him into his home. He glared at the girl who invited herself over. She had been far too pushy from the start of the year and this was a breaking point. He had no time for her today, especially with how sure he was that this was Ian’s captor.
“Can I help you Anise?” he asked, voice dripping with annoyance. “I don’t particularly appreciate students barging in to my home.”
“I’m sorry professor,” she said, with no ounce of remorse. “Just that topic I’ve been bringing to you for the last few weeks. I know it sounds crazy, but I did have proof that I could use for the project. I know this sounds crazy but if you’d just let me look around for a few minutes I know I could find it. I’m positive it left with you when you held the study session.”
“Anise, I’ve told you before this is a scientific course, you will not be doing a paper on the folklore of small humanoid creatures,” Mikhail was barely controlling his anger. “I expect you to leave. Now.”
“Professor, just trust me!” she yelled. He’d had enough of this student and was ready to kick her out. Unfortunately there was an audible yelp from the bedroom, one that she had clearly recognized. She started walking towards the bedroom seeming sure this was her chance. “Professor that noise, I’m positive it’s my proof if you’d let me just-”
Mikhail had enough, he slammed his arm across the doorway she was just about to enter. He could tell he’d grown a large bit, but honestly couldn’t care less. She stormed into his home, going on about using a person as proof, and intended to just wander around. He glared down at her, not willing to put up with her much longer.
“That noise you heard was my brother, who you just woke up,” he growled. “I’ve had enough of this fantasy. I will be removing you from this class effective Monday. I will also be contacting the school about this conduct. And to entertain your theories, even if these humanoid creatures existed based on the folklore you so heavily have referenced, they would be sentient and equal to us in intelligence. I question your ethics based on how desperate you seem for this fantasy. This field expects a level of compassion which you clearly lack.”
“Wait no please just-” she tried to argue. She knew that Mikhail was respected in his field, it wasn’t good to be on his bad side.
“Get out of my home before I throw you out,” MIkhail’s voice was dark. He had definitely hit over a foot higher than normal, he was lucky this girl wasn’t focusing on that. She opened her mouth to try again, but she stopped as she met his glare. She slowly turned and walked out of the house. This was poor conduct, it would be handled and he’d be letting his family know about her. He slammed the door behind her, a bit harder than he’d intended. He tried to calm down as he walked back to his room, Ian was probably terrified. He couldn’t calm down enough to get his size back to normal, unfortunately.
Ian was sitting up on the pillow, the shirt pulled up around him. It looked like he’d been shaking. Mikhail sat on the floor in front of the nightstand, it made him just about eye level to Ian. He couldn’t bring himself to meet his eyes, he didn’t want to see him scared. It was bad enough he wasn’t a borrower, but he was pretty clearly bigger than his usual human size. Although he could luck out again with how oblivious Ian proved to be after last night. Ian seemed to be just as lost with how quiet the room was. Mikhail looked up a little, but couldn’t read Ian’s expression at all.
“You actually stopped them,” Ian said. Mikhail almost thought he heard awe, but that couldn’t be right.
“I told you I’d keep you safe,” he smiled a little.
“You said I was your brother.”
Mikhail blushed, he hadn’t meant to grow so attached. He didn’t mean to announce it like that either. “Yeah, I uh, I kind of think of you like that, after the last few months.”
“So what’s next if I stay here?” Ian asked. Mikhail looked at him with wide eyes.
“Then, we figure out the boundaries for us,” he answered. “You can stay in the walls or we can set something up out here. Up to you entirely.”
“Is it ok if I think you’re like a brother too?” Ian’s voice was small, Mikhail had to strain to hear it.
“I’d love to have a secret brother like you,” Mikhail smiled. He leaned his face closer to the pillow, just realizing he’d gotten down to his usual size. Ian crawled to the edge of the pillow hugging Mikhail’s nose. His smile grew and he carefully cupped his hand behind Ian. This wouldn’t be easy, but having a brother like Ian sounded pretty great.

Results of Expectations Part 3 (Final)
Part 3 hope it's a satisfying ending
TW: Panic, sort of panic attacks, a bit (more) of dehumanization, Mentions of torture and starvation/dehydration, IDK What else as always please tell me
Part 1 | Part 2
Results of Expectations Part 3
A few steps out she nearly ran straight into a foot. She slowly looked up, the confidence of her realization fading. She felt her blood run cold when a familiar sneer stared down at her. It was older, but she’d dreamt of this face for so long. She tried to back up, but they were too fast. She was wrapped in a hand in seconds, her stomach falling as she was brought endlessly up. The fingers moved enough for her to see their face, her heart pounding loud enough she thought they could hear.
“H-how?” she choked. Their laugh still made her freeze. She wished for the first time she hadn’t moved somewhere away from most of town. The cold eyes made her feel smaller than the hand holding her.
“It’s a funny thing how bail works, they didn’t even think to check the human danger registry before letting me off on my own,” their voice was loud and shook her to her core. The hand she was in moved to a coat pocket, dropping her in. They patted it and she felt aches starting already. “I think we should play a bit more. Especially before they find you to come talk at the newest hearing for me. The poor little human who lost her family then broke up a giant family for revenge should tell the truth.”
She grabbed the edges of the cloth as it started to sway. It happened, she was always so scared it could happen. How does she survive now? She needed to get away, she needed help. Phone, she has a phone now she can call someone. She searched her pockets, but came up empty. She must have left it when she ran out. She was trapped, no one would search for her. She had every reason to be abandoned after how she acted. She started shaking, she’d probably die this time.
“Watch it,” her captor said. They grabbed the pocket she was in as she got thrown. They must have bumped into someone as they went to her grave. No one is going to help her this time.
“Sorry,” she heard a voice say. She knew that voice. She only had one chance for this to work out. She had to put in all of her strength, beg for help. There was no reason she should get it, but she’s got to try.
“Corus!” she shouted as loud as possible. “Corus! Help me! It’s them! Hel-”
She was cut off as a hand reached in and wrapped around her. The grip was tight, too tight. All around her was flesh and she desperately wanted freedom. If he had heard her he didn’t care. She felt tears falling as the hand got even tighter, just barely leaving enough room for her to breathe. They’d make sure she dies now. She tried to get away and she’d be punished. She was foolish to think Corus would help, she should have just stayed silent. She would have had to hope for a miracle to be heard through the cloth and from so low. All she could hear were the footsteps to her death.
“You’ll wish you stayed quiet once I’m home,” they snarled. She tried to fight the tight grip, failing to even squirm. “First I’ll play all the games we did as kids when you were my sis-”
There was something that knocked into them again. The coat was pulled forward, the hand holding her shoved deeper in the pocket. The bit of air she had was squeezed out of her. She started to see spots dancing across the vision she did have. They didn’t even know they were killing her. Whoever or whatever knocked into them wouldn’t know either.
He hadn’t been sure at first, convinced hearing her call for him was in his head. He turned back and saw the person he’d bumped into sticking their hand in their pocket. The way they stood and moved felt wrong. He started following them, matching each step the best he could. Then they started talking and he knew he wasn’t crazy. He grabbed them hard, spinning and holding them by the collar, he’d get her back.
“Where is she you fuck?” Corus growled.
He wasn’t risking there being any chance of them hurting her more. He grabbed the hand that he’d watch them shove in a pocket. He could feel the clenched fist and dread filled him. He ripped the hand out of the pocket, the fingers uncurling as he did. For a second he felt his heart stop, focusing only on the small form now plummeting. He shoved the creep away and rushed to catch her. He’d only just barely gotten close enough to catch her on the tips of his fingers.
He curled them in quickly, rolling her into his palm. She was limp, he was terrified she might actually be gone. He lifted his hand slowly, holding her close enough he could make out the frown on her face. He waited, staring at her small form until he finally saw the rise and fall of her chest. He was flooded with relief for a moment, glaring at the person who apparently chose to hang around. He pulled her close, curling his fingers over her and holding her to his chest.
“You really are quite the freak aren’t you?” they asked. “What did you claim her? Decide you’ll be the one to keep her all to yourself, we both know how fucked up any kind of relationship is with humans and giants. Are you going to spend years convincing her that you’re different you won’t get possessive, lock her away and throw away the key? Make the little human trust you because you’ll be kind and gentle forever. They aren’t worth our time. We should be able to do anything we want to them, they’re no better than a toy.”
Corus had to fight to keep his voice low as he said, “I think you’re just a sick confused individual. Thinking anyone is no better than a possession is a mistake. I didn’t claim her or any other fucked idea you may have. I care about her, and I’ll do anything to keep creeps like you far from her, even if she hates me. Even if she stays terrified because of monsters like you, I’ll keep being one of the ones she can remember as nothing like you.”
Corus carefully moved her to his other hand. Cupping her against him, he was hoping she was still out. He walked up to the creep, they started to back up. He took longer strides, towering over the shorter giant, a glare in his eyes that could kill. He moved quickly, punching them with all his strength. They went down, hard, a bit of blood from their nose. He pulled out his phone dialing Delphia.
“Del,” he whispered as soon as the ringing stopped. “Go to the park, by where I was meeting Mira. The creep was here, they had grabbed her.”
“What?!” she shouted. He heard tired voices near the phone, they must have fallen asleep near her head. “What do you mean they grabbed her? Like they had Mira? Is she ok?”
“They had her, I don’t know how they even wound up in town. I’m going to take her to the hospital, she’d passed out in their hand. Can you have Ash or Alessia call their family?”
“Yeah, yes, Ash wake up.” The line went dead.
Corus walked away, he didn’t want to check on her by them. Before he left the park he felt it was safe to finally check. He flattened his hand out, pulling it slowly from his chest staring down at her. She was small, smaller than Ian. He felt like a twitch could change everything in a single second. He brought his free hand close to her, carefully moving her hair from her face. She still looked pained and scared. He needed her to be safe. He moved his hand back to his chest, curling his fingers over her. She’d be fine.
Mira felt something warm around her. She saw Corus, he looked her size, but he was far away. He started coming closer, each step seeming to make the world shake more and more. She felt a fear gripping her as she craned her neck to see his face. The steps seemed to grow heavier until she fell back staring up as he loomed over her. She started shaking as he watched her, but his face wasn’t cruel.
It wasn’t the sneer she pictured each time she thought of that day. One of his hands came close to her. She started shaking more, would he hurt her? Gently a finger touched her, the tip gently brushing her hair from her face. She waited and waited for the pain to come, but it never did. Both of his hands were near her, but nothing seemed to happen. Slowly she felt like she could believe the kindness on his face. The hands pulled away and the warmth disappeared. As a shiver ran down her spine her eyes snapped open.
She was coughing horribly. The hands around her were her size, normal size. She looked around, this wasn’t where she should be. She remembered seeing them, getting dropped in a pocket too. She called for help when she thought she heard Corus’s voice, but nothing happened when she screamed. Then she was held tightly, but she wouldn’t be surrounded by humans like that. They covered her face with something that made the air taste different.
“Wh..ere..?” she tried. Her voice was broken and quiet, but someone near her seemed to hear. They…were a nurse? A doctor?
“You’re in a hospital hun,” they answered. “You’re lucky someone got you here. You took a decent bit of damage from someone on the registry according to the one who got you here. He said your family was told and should be on the way by now. We just need to get you checked out and treated.”
She opened her mouth to speak, but couldn’t get the sound out. The world seemed to be moving a million miles a minute. The nurses and doctors took her somewhere, put her in machines that they claimed said she was mostly fine. A few bruised ribs and her arm would need to be in a sling. They started treating her quickly, but she was falling asleep as their bandaging began. When she finally opened her eyes again Ash was next to her. She reached out carefully and started to pet their head. This is how she woke up every time she got sick after Ash joined their family. They groaned a bit before looking up at her.
“You’re awake…” they said. She nodded. “Good. You had everyone worried. Dabria wound up having to drag Vitus off the one who did this. They won’t be able to do anything for a while thanks to him.”
“How did they…? How did I…?” she trailed off. A part of her didn’t want to know how she got here. She wanted to have the chance to dream up some story about one of them saving her. Ash smiled and turned their head so she could keep petting it, she couldn’t deny knowing they were real made waking up easier.
“Corus saved you. He wouldn’t tell us everything, just that he was glad he was there. He asked us to let him know when you woke up…can we?” If Corus saved her, how much of that was a dream?
“Yeah… I’m guessing Delphia and Mikhail know I’m here so tell them…mom and dad too…”
Ash’s eyes went wide and she felt awful when the tears started to fall. She was shocked when they stood and hugged her. Ash never acted like this. Slowly she returned the hug, they dug their face into her shoulder. Alessia and Rhys walked in during this, dropping everything they were holding. They were frozen staring at the scene, Ian came running in only a second later. It looked like he only just got here.
“How long have you been awake? You guys told me not to come until this morning cause she’d be out until then,” Ian whined. She smiled a bit; he always worried they’d leave him out of things. Ash turned to face them, finally letting her go.
“Can you tell them what you told me?” they asked. She looked at them confused, but didn’t see a reason not to. Is it something else she never knew she did?
“I said it’s ok to tell Corus, Delphia, and Mikhail I woke up. That you should tell …mom and dad too.”
They all just watched her for a minute before things erupted. Rhys, Alessia, and Ian hovering over her and asking so much she couldn’t understand. Ash slipped out as they started the onslaught and she just sat stunned. She didn’t understand what had made them so worked up. Ian eventually handed her her phone and the thing that sent her running out of her home came back to her. The way she kept referring to the giants in their lives, like they weren’t people. She looked up at her family, the joy on their face almost painful. Tears started spilling from her eyes.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” she cried. She felt the added weight on the bed as Rhys and Alessia took a seat on each side. Ian climbed up on the end facing her, all three giving her looks as though she were crazy.
“What are you sorry for? Getting kidnapped?” Rhys joked. “Hate to tell you, but I’m pretty sure that’s not your fault, we can consult the laws though.”
“You don’t have to be sorry for anything Mira,” Alessia said as she wiped her tears away. “You’ve done nothing wrong.”
“No, no I did. This whole time I-I’ve been awful. I kept thinking like they weren’t people, as if they were something else. I…how many times was I cruel and didn’t even realize it?” Ian reached up and grabbed the arm that wasn’t in a sling. Carefully rubbing circles on the back of her hand.
“Mira if I knew that would get you this worked up I wouldn’t have said anything,” he explained. She tried to say something, but Rhys quieted her with a look. “I don’t think you saw how you spoke about them each time. You were clear in saying giants and humans, but you never said anything bad. Even in your worst times, you said you were scared they’d become monsters. You weren’t cruel, you were scared they’d change and we’d get hurt.”
“But I still…so many times I said things that-”
“That fit with someone who was scared of the worst kind of people in the world,” Ash said as they walked back in. “You’re not a bad person Mira. Even if you want to be so you can find a reason to stop having people care about you.”
“I-”
“Don’t lie to us, we know you better than you realize. Don’t think we didn’t notice you starting to push us away even when you’d had a bad panic and needed someone. We’re your family and even better, we chose to stay your family. Don’t think you get to kick us to the curb.”
Rhys pulled her into a hug once he finished. She wanted to argue, she was awful. Corus just saved her and the idea of seeing him made her ready to run. She wanted to change and be able to spend time with her family and the people important to them. She wanted to be able to handle life where she wouldn’t have to cut out a part of the people who care about her. She wanted to tell them all this, that she wanted to find a way to move forward. She just cried into Rhys’s shoulder; her wish to move forward could come later.
She was stuck in the hospital for a few months. Mostly to make sure she was safe as the issue with that awful family was handled. Someone came to interview her for the case the second day she was there, claiming it would be easier and safer for her. After that they moved her to a room closer to the giant wing of the hospital. It was her request, plus they had rooms just for humans with giant loved ones. Vitus and Dabria were waiting when they brought her to the new room. She couldn’t stop the shaking that started when she saw them, but Rhys and Ian managed to help her calm down. Her brothers held her as she tried to talk, calling Vitus and Dabria mom and dad directly. The two broke down immediately, she finally learned why the others had freaked out. She never even noticed she’d started to call them that, maybe Ian was right.
During her stay the hospital staff spoke with her about what happened. They had specialists in handling humans with giant trauma on staff now and offered to connect her. She jumped at the chance. Vitus and Dabria visited her each day, but made sure to only come by one at a time after the first day. The specialist came to talk to her once during their visit, then set up a schedule for her to speak with them almost every day. They said once she was released they’d do video calls, her parents can be the ones she works with if that would make her feel most at ease. Shockingly it did.
Unsurprisingly things blew up pretty badly once it got out someone on the human danger registry was let out in town. Most of the people in charge were replaced with ones who took the safety of everyone into account. The whole time she didn’t hear a word from Corus. When she finally got released Ash and Alessia took her home. They actually had a car unlike the rest of them. They got her settled quickly and offered to stay if she wanted. She sent them out, she wanted to be on her own.
The next day she had her first virtual meeting with the specialist. Talking with them helped a lot more than she thought, she got a number of better coping mechanisms for when a giant is near her. She just had one that she had to approach. She sat at her computer, it felt like eons since she’d last been here. She hit the power button watching as the screen lit up with everything she’d left up the last time. A new trending topic that hit her a bit harder than she’d like to see. ‘PinkEyedMiracle was hospitalized by the person CorBuster outed!!’
She sighed, it wouldn’t be hard to see this getting popular. She clicked on the trending topic and was dumbfounded. There were stories of how she was taken as a human. Others where she saved a human that they tried to take. Some stories where they knew she was connected to the streams and she got attacked. There was nothing concrete, like someone had actively hid the truth in the lies. She had an idea of where Corus had been the last few months.
She pulled up the chat app. Clicked on the bubble that hadn’t been touched in so long. It felt like a different lifetime when she agreed to tell him what happened. Like a dream when she’d agreed to meet who she thought was a human. Her heart was racing as she put her hands on the keyboard. She tried the breathing techniques the specialist taught her as she typed, this might be a bad idea. She hit send before she could rethink it, hopefully he’s home and she doesn’t have time to convince herself to delete the message. A ping sounded, no turning back.
CorBuster: Are you sure? You don’t have to.
PinkEyedMiracle: Positive. Don’t give me time to change my mind lol
The ringtone started right after. Video call with a giant, this is fine. She answered it, feeling the panic starting to hit as she stared at him. There was no illusion of a human in her mind anymore, that dream might have been what did it. They both stared at each other for a few minutes, it seemed like he was lost for words this time too. She kept reminding herself he saved her, he’d heard her scream. He was good, he was like Ian and Ash and Alessia and Rhys and mom and dad. He was someone she could trust.
“Hey,” she murmured. She could feel herself starting to shake as different images forced their way into her mind.
“Hey… you sure this is ok?” he asked. She could hear a tinge of fear, he was scared she’d say no wasn’t he? She wasn’t going to lie.
“No, but… I don’t think I can just pretend I don’t want you in my life…” She swallowed thickly and looked away. The embarrassing part now and it wasn’t any easier when she was shaking like a leaf. “Especially when I would have said yes to a date and still want to even if I’m terrified.”
“Then I have an idea. Hang on a second.” He turned off his camera and she heard a lot of noise on his end. He was gone long enough she started to calm down again, the camera turning back on more of a shock than she wanted. He’d put on a dress shirt and tie. He even had a flower from somewhere. He was insane. “Well Mira, I would like this to be our first date. I’ll give you a better flower once you tell me you’re ready to see me for real.”
“You’re unbelievable.”
She smiled and laughed, he followed her laughter quickly with his own. She still struggled with the thoughts of what he could do, what he could be. There were moments he seemed to notice she got bad and the camera ‘cut out’. She couldn’t believe how sweet he was after all of this. They were on a call for hours, the anxiety level unfortunately high the whole time. This is what she wanted though, to be able to do things like this, get used to talking to anyone despite her fears.
“I’m seeing a specialist for all of this,” she said. He was making dumb faces to make her laugh before she blurted that out. He seemed to sober up from their laughter and he looked at her with a seriousness she never expected.
“You don’t have to. It’s ok to stay scared, it’s not like anything you went through was easy or simple,” Corus said. “Mira I… I honestly think I love you after all the time we spent talking before trying to meet. If you want I’ll, we all will, we can help you go to a human only town. No one is hurt, we know it’s hard since most movers are giants, but we’ll get you there. Rhys told us he’d probably even move with you.”
“That’s what I don’t want. I want to move forward and see the people who care about me without fear anymore.” Deep breath he said it she can say it. “See the person I love without having a breakdown or shaking at the idea of him coming close.”
Corus’s eyes went wide. He seemed ready to declare his love, but never expected her to reciprocate. She watched his cheeks turn bright red, she could only assume she was the same. They both just sat there for a decent while before a knock sounded on his door. He looked at her with a question in his eyes, she wanted to say yes, but wasn’t ready for that. She shook her head, and he smiled anyway.
“I should go,” she said. He opened his mouth, but she was faster. She ended the call, her face feeling hot from….everything. Messages popped up in their chat quickly.
CorBuster: Boooo! I didn’t get to say bye. I thought you loved me.
CorBuster: I’ll just cry and cry until you call me again and let me say bye that time.
CorBuster: At least I have a cute picture to stare at when you hurt me like this
CorBuster: Wait I shouldn’t have reminded you. Don’t delete it please!! :’(
PinkEyedMiracle: Go answer your door you dork. If you don’t I will delete it!
She pushed back from her desk and went to her bed. She curled up, still on edge from talking with him. It was nice though, she just had to remind herself he was good more times than she liked. She was shaking a lot too, but he didn’t seem to mind. She would talk to the specialist tomorrow about all of this. She can’t imagine when she’d be able to actually face him, let alone be held. There was some hope though, more hope than she had after that day in the park. She pulled up the picture he sent that day, noticing everything now. It might be a good thing she was so nervous that day.

Secret Brother Pt2
Continuing Ian and Mikhail gonna keep the same tws unless someone's asked for changes
TW: mentions of abandonment. Later parts will have mentions of a borrower being treated like a pet this is entirely painted in how fuckin wrong it is and how it added to the trauma.
Part 1 Part 3 (Final)
Secret Brother Part 2
Mikhail started living a double life after that. He was making good progress with Ian. He wasn’t sure how Ian had made any kind of home before, he seemed to struggle with basic bits of borrowing. It was becoming the highlight of most days to go home and sneak in to his own house the size of a borrower. Ian seemed almost nervous to be left in a house with a human alone, it didn’t make a ton of sense. The thing that started his move before must have been pretty bad.
The last few months had been a bit stressful too. At least one of his students seemed aware that the dorm ‘ghost’ had left with him. She claimed it was discussing her thesis, but it seemed to be highly focused on borrowers. Although she kept calling it a hypothetical idea of small beings. A study on the folklore of creatures like that which pop up in a lot of cultures. Finding ways to push her to new topics was becoming hard. Mikhail was looking forward to his afternoon with Ian.
“Ian, you around bud?” he called out. Ian rushed at him, covering his mouth. Mikhail looked at him curiously. Ian slowly slid his hand off him, seemingly happy with the silence. “What was that about?”
“I, uh, I thought I heard the human before,” he said nervously. Mikhail had been quiet, he hadn’t even opened his door. “I figured we should be extra quiet today, or just stay here, I have enough supplies for at least a week.”
Mikhail studied him, this wasn’t normal. Even if he made noise on his way, he can’t hear the noise in the walls as a human. Well he couldn’t hear them this far in, he made Ian move to make sure of that. Ian was jumpy, looking around like something would show up out of nowhere. He’d go with it for now, they’d hang out in the walls. He could teach him better sewing and they could work out the paths a little more.
“All right bud,” he said, hoping the smile would calm him. “We can stay in the walls just get some chores done in here, set up some extra paths you may need.”
Ian visibly calmed hearing that. He grabbed Mikhail’s arm and dragged him to the makeshift table. He had plenty of projects he started and needed guidance on. Mikhail was happy to oblige. They worked in a casual silence, Ian showing the parts he struggled with and Mikhail guiding him. It was a pretty normal day as far as life for a borrower is concerned, but Mikhail couldn’t ignore how terrified Ian was. It couldn’t just be that he thought he heard Mikhail, or well the human sized Mikhail, in the house. He was trying to think of how to bring it up when Ian dropped his project.
“Mik,” he started. “You’ve been coming to this house for a long time right?”
“Yeah it’s a normal stop,” he answered. He didn’t think he wanted to know where this was going.
“What do you think of this human?” Ian looked at him, his eyes had something in them he couldn’t read.
“I’m not sure what you mean bud,” he knew the right responses, but didn’t want to give them. He didn’t want to encourage Ian to be afraid of him.
“L-let’s say, there was a human you knew was bad, like really bad. If you had to pick between them and the human here, which would you pick?”
“I mean, as far as I can tell with this human, they wouldn’t do anything bad,” he started slowly. “I don’t know how bad the bad human would be in this scenario, but I’d pick the human who lives here. I’ve known them for an extremely long time, they don’t seem the type to do anything cruel.”
Ian nodded solemnly. Something was going on and he wasn’t telling him. Mikhail was tempted to push, but there wasn’t a good way to ask. He didn’t like leaving like this, but he had some work to get done this weekend, he couldn’t stay. He ruffled Ian’s hair standing to stretch, then started gathering the few things of his he brought with him. Ian grabbed his shoulder tightly.
“Mik, can you stay? For a few days?” his voice was small. Mikhail wanted to stay, to help him with what he wasn’t saying, but he couldn’t. He had to grade assignments and review thesis topics. He turned with a sad smile to Ian.
“I’m sorry Ian, I can’t. Honestly I may be gone for about a week this time. I can’t put off this work much longer. It won’t f-”
“Can I come?”
Mikhail sighed, “Ian I can’t take you with me for these trips. It won’t feel that long promise.”
Ian let go of him. Mikhail turned and saw he looked close to tears. He pulled Ian into a hug, holding tightly. Ian melted into it, seeming to need some sort of reassurance. Mikhail was more reluctant to leave, but he had to work so they could keep this up anyway. He let go and moved towards the exit, relieved to see Ian sitting back down at the table. He’d tell Ian the truth next time, he had to know he wasn’t as alone as he thought when ‘Mik’ wasn’t around.
“We’ll talk about some important stuff when I come back too all right?” he asked. Ian perked up, nodding with a look of relief. Things like that seemed to calm him, promises that meant he’d return without that being the promise. Once outside the house Mikhail waited a few minutes before shifting back. He needed to make sure Ian wasn’t planning to follow him. Once sure he focused and the world returned to its usual view. He took slow steps toward his car, climbing in to move it. Next time he saw Ian wasn’t going to be easy. He pulled the car off to the side, hidden completely from view for the weekend.
He sighed as he walked in, far from excited to deal with the guilt he’d be feeling. He went straight to his desk, if he could make it through the papers fast enough he could talk with Ian sooner. He pulled out the first and got to reading, blocking out the world around him. Ian wouldn’t come out for a while based on how he was acting. Hours passed as he worked through the assignments, a number of which would need to be completely redone. The black ink on white paper getting to him, he walked out to get a drink. The house was dark, he never bothered to turn on any lights when he came in. He reached the kitchen and flicked the light on, nearly screaming.
Sitting at the center of the table was Ian, his hook placed clearly out of reach. Mikhail couldn’t believe his eyes. He decided to act like he saw nothing, continuing on to get his water. He would go back to his desk and then Ian could keep up whatever crazy thing he was planning. Unless this had to do with the question earlier about trusting the human here. Did he know it was Mikhail who lived here? Ian must have figured it out. He turned to leave, trying so hard not to let his concern show.
“H-human!” Ian called out. There went any hope of pretending not to see him. Mikhail locked his eyes on Ian, the boy flinching as he gained the attention he wanted. Mikhail crouched down, getting himself eye level with the borrower. He was barely ready for whatever this meant.
“Hi?” he said. He had no idea how to do this. Wait he called out human, does Ian not know?
“I-I want to make a deal with you.” Ian was trying to be confident. Mikhail felt a lot of pride at that. He was so much more confident than he was a few months ago.
“What do you need?”
“I-if you’ll keep the bad human from me and my friend I’ll stay with you.”
“Wait what? What bad human? What do you mean stay with me?” Mikhail was utterly lost. Ian was here in front of him when he was human. Offering to stay with him in exchange for protection from the bad human. Now he really needed to know what was going on. He leaned down on the table, arms as a pillow, to be a little closer.
“I-I ran away from a human. They were keeping me as a,” he paused a mixture of fear and disgust on his face, “as a pet. I’ll stay with you as one if you’ll keep the bad one from me and my friend.”
“First no to that whole pet thing, you’re clearly a person. Second, I need to know about this bad human to help.”
“I-I can be good. I won’t run from you. I’ll be the project thingy for you they were talking about. I can-”
“Whoa slow down buddy, I just need information.” Mikhail was trying hard to stay calm. This is what scared him so much. Some human kept him as a pet and brought him to the school. Mikhail was going to deal with this, later though for now Ian had to calm down.
“I can do tricks, I won’t complain really. You can go get a cage now and I’ll wait right here. I won’t move at all. I won’t fight if you try to show me off either. I’ll be a good pet just as long as you protect us.”
“Kiddo, I just said the pet thing isn’t happening. I’ll just help you if you talk to me about this bad human.”
“I’m not stupid. I know you’ll want something eventually. I’m giving you something. I know you spend time at the place the bad human had brought me. I’ll be obedient for anything you need just keep the bad one away. I put the only way I can get down far enough away. Just admit you like this idea and-”
“Ian, knock it off! I’m not entertaining you talking about yourself like that’s all you’re good for. You’re a person, damn it!” Mikhail shouted. He hadn’t meant to, but hearing Ian thought he’d like this idea hurt. Over the last few months Ian felt like a younger brother, he’d do anything for him.
“H-How do you know my name?” Ian’s eyes were wide. Mikhail didn’t realize he used his name, he’d gotten lucky until now. Ian seemed far more scared than before hearing the human knew his name, starting to back away. Mikhail stood up and backed off. This wasn’t what he wanted to happen. He was going to have to show him as much as he hated it. He made his way back over to the table gripping the edge with both hands. He focused on them as he willed himself smaller. He pulled himself onto the table then sped up how fast he shifted. Focusing his gaze on Ian once he was done.
“This,” Mikhail gestured to himself, “would be why you couldn’t come with me.”

Mikhail's Past Pt.2
Going in to Mikhail's past now. His is a bit harsher. Overall mentions of death, fire, buildings collapsing. Poor treatment of a child as well.
Pt. 1 Pt. 3 (Final)
Mikhail's Past Pt.2
Mikhail was woken up by Maria roughly shaking him. He looked around confused by where he was for a few seconds. Taking in the fabric and makeshift furniture reminded him of everything. Maria was still shaking him, clearly not happy he hadn’t moved yet. He shifted up to sitting and rubbing his eyes. She threw something at him and he stared at it confused. She sighed and started wandering around the room. Mikhail picked up the thing she threw and started investigating it. It turned out it was a bag like she had hung over her shoulder.
“What’s this for?” he asked. “I have a bag already.”
“You aren’t using some human’s toy for supplies. This is an extra one I have for big trips. We'll use this for anything you get tonight.”
He nodded and she finally grabbed her pin and fish hook. She put the pin through her clothes and stuck the string and the hook in her bag. She signalled for him to follow out to the tunnel again. He rushed to keep up, stumbling a bit now that she wasn’t leading him. It was hard to see where he was going. Maria sighed, turning back to grab his hand and lead him. She didn’t seem willing to move at his slow pace. They walked for a few minutes before she finally stopped.
“This is where the child was supposed to stay,” she explained. “There’s a few supplies we can use for you to get a hook and some practice in.”
He nodded again, a little afraid of what practice meant. She pushed on the wall, opening a door he hadn’t been able to see. She slipped out, holding a hand out to signal him to wait. She left completely and he was alone in the darkness. He felt anxiety creep in. He couldn’t remember much about the day he lost his parents, but there was an anxious feeling just like this. He felt himself start breathing faster, almost like the walls were closing in. Until light creeped in from where Maria had disappeared. She came back in, grabbing his hand to lead him out. She brought him to the desk he usually used for homework. It was frighteningly huge right now.
“All right, since the child isn’t coming yet you can get the hook up there,” she said. “We’ll come in here to practice and once you can land and free a hook we’ll gather what we’ll need for your own.”
“Wait what?” he asked as she started to swing the hook around in a circle. It seemed like she was getting ready to try and lasso something.
“You need to be able to do this. Watch closely.”
He did as she said. Watching how she did things closely. She made throwing it look easy. She tugged the string and it didn’t come down, then she flicked her wrist to free it. She handed him the hook and he tried to mimic her movements. It didn’t go well. He’d barely thrown it a foot, or well an inch, in the air. She had him keep practicing, standing guard only stopping him when the sky started to lighten. She took the hook back, brought them to the entrance and sent him back the way they came. She went off to get supplies. His arm was sore, but he’d made it at least an inch higher than the first attempt.
The days continued like that. Maria would have him stay in the walls but follow around as she borrowed. Every night she would take him to try and catch the desk with the fish hook. It took a few weeks, but he did finally make it. The first time she came over congratulating him then tested the hook and it fell right away. She showed him the proper way to test and the process repeated. He managed to get the hook to stay after a few days, but then she made him free it before they climbed. Once he could free it they climbed up, gathering paper clips and some other random bits left on the desk before returning home.
Maria had string so she taught him to form a hook with the paper clip. Then he was allowed to go on trips with her outside the walls. Things with Maria felt nice, he almost forgot about his human life sometimes. Then he’d hear his aunt talking to the police about Mikhail, about himself. His mom’s sister over the phone worried how they’d find him. He had to find a way home eventually, but he didn’t want to leave Maria. He didn’t know how he got like this anyway, it wasn’t like he could just make himself normal sized and walk in the door. He had been left home, repairing one of the bags, when things took a turn.
“Mik, we need to pack now,” Maria said, running into the room. “We have to leave tomorrow morning to find a new place.”
“W-Why?” he asked. If they left then he’d actually be missing. He wouldn’t be able to figure out a way to tell Maria he was this missing human child by morning either. He couldn’t try to contact his mom’s sister for help, or get Maria to help him back to his real height. Although then he’d be free, no more getting locked away or grabbed and almost thrown in rooms. He wouldn’t be sent from place to place all the time either. He would be allowed to stay with someone who liked having him around.
“The human is calling an exterminator. She apparently checked the human child’s room and saw marks on the desk. I didn’t even consider how my hook would mark the wood. It must not be made as well as other things in the house,” she was pacing as she spoke. “Look, just pack up anything important and go. This time we’ll use that human toy though, we have the ability to take more than normal if we do. One of the bags we usually use will just hold food.”
Maria kept explaining and Mikhail kept nodding. He was packing as she told him to, and she was running around grabbing everything she could. Soon they had the three bags packed and were getting comfortable on the fabric bed. They had to leave at dawn, so they’d sleep now. Maria had done this before, she knew how to keep them safe. She wouldn’t stop reassuring him, it made him nervous. Did she think things would go wrong?
Mikhail had a fitful sleep. Nightmares he couldn’t quite remember kept waking him. Maria didn’t sleep well either. Morning came and she quickly set him up. She placed his backpack on him, then draped one of her bags over him. She put the other bag on herself, slipping her pin through her clothes. She grabbed the two hooks, placing the one with the fish hook in the bag she’d placed on Mikhail.
“But that’s your hook,” he said. She gave him a sad smile, it filled him with dread.
“I want you to have it. I have my pin for protection. This is sharper than the paper clip. Also if we get separated this will last you a lot longer,” she explained. His feeling of dread worsened. The two left, he could get through the tunnels now. She took a path he’d never followed her down before leading to an entrance outside. It was at the back of the house, and opened to the yard. A yard fenced in with lines of trees, just thick enough for people to have trouble. For them it looked like forests. Maria looked around nervously.
“Mik, stay close,” she whispered. “Outside there are a lot more dangers. I haven’t gone over them with you. We’re small and there are a number of animals that will see us as an easy meal. Do everything I say.”
“O-ok” Mikhail answered. He didn’t like this. If he knew how to be his normal size again then they could stay. He could help her stay safe from the exterminator and say thanks for helping him. At the new place he’d tell her he was supposed to be the human child in this house. No, he had to tell her before they were really gone from here. Then maybe they could get him normal before they had to travel like this. Mikhail was lost in his thoughts he barely realized she’d been pulling him along.
She was careful and quick as they moved. Taking each step with purpose. She was never looking in one direction for more than a few seconds. Mikhail tried to bring up the size thing once he noticed they’d started moving, but she turned and glared at every noise he made. He tried to talk each time she paused and didn’t notice how much it was irritating her. Finally she stopped turning to glare at him.
“Mik stop, we can’t be talking out here,” she yelled.
“I just, I wanted to tell you that I,” he mumbled. He couldn’t get the words out. She was glaring at him the whole time.
“Out with it,” she commanded. He opened and closed his mouth. The idea of telling Maria, revealing he’s supposed to be human, suddenly terrified him. He didn’t want to lose her, she was the only one he felt comfortable with in a long time. She was the only person who felt like family. He looked up at her, lost for words when he noticed a shadow behind her.
“C-cat!” he screamed. She turned to see the cat looking at them. It was clearly getting ready to pounce. He was trembling, he’d never seen a cat look so monstrous before. Maria was ready; she'd turned to face it pulling her pin from her side. She pushed Mikhail away from her and stepped closer.
“Go now!”
“What about you?!”
She looked over her shoulder with a bitter smile, “I gave you the good hook, get somewhere safe. I’ll catch up.”
He knew it was a lie. He couldn’t move as she turned back to the cat. She was ready to fight and was keeping the cat’s attention. He watched as she started swinging the pin to keep its attention. The cat lifted a paw, getting ready to strike and Mikhail’s heart started pounding. He couldn’t watch her die, he’d lost his parents and he didn't want to lose Maria. Time felt slowed as he watched the cat’s paw coming down. He reached out for her, barely aware the world had changed.
The cat’s paw came down on his hand, the size it was when he showed up at his aunt’s house. The cat screeched out a hiss and ran. He had a nasty cut, but that was easy enough to handle. He felt Maria’s small frame in his hand and tightened his grip a little. He carefully picked her up, putting her in the hand the cat hadn’t cut. She didn’t look like the person he’d been with for so long. She looked small enough to just be a toy. She stared daggers up at him and he felt guilt eat at him.
“Fine you caught me you must be the kid they’ve been looking for,” she snarled. “I won’t be an obedient pet and I’ve made sure your old one is long gone.”
He tilted his head confused. He was going to ask what she meant, but they were interrupted.
“Mikhail, where have you been?” his aunt called out. He stood quickly holding Maria close to his chest. He wouldn’t get her seen by his aunt, that's for sure. He wasn’t really sure how to answer and just stared up at her as she came closer. She grabbed his arm and dragged him into the house sending him straight to his room. He heard her outside on the phone. “He’s here. I have no idea where he’s been. Just come get him. He’s your problem now.”
He frowned at that and waited for her to say anything more. It wasn’t like he got to unpack so it would be easy to move his things to the new house. It still wasn’t safe for Maria though. He wanted to just let her go, but she’d run and that cat was still out there. He pulled his hands away from his chest to look down at her. She looked scared. He couldn’t figure out how to say anything to her. His aunt and the others were always so loud when he heard them at her size. He didn’t want to make this worse. He didn’t have time to say much before his aunt was back and Maria was held close to his chest again.

Mikhail's Past Pt.3 (Final)
Going in to Mikhail's past now. His is a bit harsher. Overall mentions of death, fire, buildings collapsing. Poor treatment of a child as well.
Pt. 1 Pt. 2
Mikhail's Past Pt.3 (Final)
“Come on, your aunt Mandy will be here in a few minutes,” she said. She dragged him by the arm again and held it tightly as they waited on the porch. She didn’t even care that he hadn’t spoken or moved his hands from his chest. They were standing there for a few minutes, Maria had started squirming in his hands. He tried to keep from reacting so his aunt wouldn’t try to force him to show her his hands. He wouldn’t risk Maria getting hurt “Where did you get that awful bag?”
He opened his eyes wide and looked to his side. The bag Maria had given him was still there. It must have changed with him, that was weird. He shrugged his shoulders, his aunt just huffed and tapped her foot impatiently. It was another five minutes before his mom's sister showed up. His aunt dragged him to the car and nearly shoved him in the backseat. He wouldn’t move his hands so his aunt huffed again and buckled him in. The two adults spoke for a bit and he just made sure that he didn’t hold Maria too tightly. They drove off and he was almost sad to leave. This was his home with Maria, even if she’d hate him soon. He might as well be like the humans she talked about.
“So guess you’ll be with me here on out,” his mom’s sister said. He’d never really met her before. “I’m Mandy, call me aunt if you want it’s up to you. There’s a lot we have to talk about when we get home. We can wait until you’ve settled in. I’ve set up a room for you, it should be everything you need. I wish you could have come to me sooner, the will was set up with some foolish stipulations.”
The silence between them felt heavy. He didn’t have anything to say to her, it would be the same as everywhere else. He’d have a room with the essentials and then be kept there. He just wanted to put Maria down, this ride was taking too long. Maria had stilled once he got in the car and he felt worse. She didn’t recognize him yet, and probably thought he had trapped himself before. He looked through the windshield and saw Mandy staring at him through the mirror.
“Mik,” his eyes went wide and he felt Maria stiffen, “I know things have been hard. I'm sorry I couldn’t take you sooner. You’re young and have had to deal with a lot, but once you’ve had time to settle in we can talk about all of it.”
Mikhail didn’t say anything. He knew Maria would put it together now. He just wanted her not to hate him. She was the only person nice to him since his parents. They finally pulled up to a house and Mikhail was careful as he took off his seatbelt. Mandy put her hand on his back, not grabbing him surprisingly, and brought him inside. She pointed out the kitchen and bathroom as they walked then stopped in front of a closed door.
“This is your room,” she said. “Let me know if you need anything take some time to settle in then we can talk.”
Mikhail nodded and slowly walked into the room. It was nicer than any of the places his other family had for him. It even had a bookshelf filled to the top.He shook his head to focus again. He had to put Maria down and talk to her. He picked the bed, he thought that might be the best place. He carefully pulled his hands away from himself to place Maria down on the soft surface. She hopped to her feet, backing up a bit to glare at Mikhail. He had no idea if she knew or not.
“So what are you going to do with me?” she seethed. He could still see her trembling though. Maria was amazing. She was brave like the heroes in the stories his mom and dad used to tell him. Mikhail took a deep breath trying to make sure he didn’t talk too loudly.
“Nothing, I just wanted to make sure you were safe,” he whispered. He still felt too loud. Maria stared at him. He couldn’t tell what she was thinking, probably just mad at him, the human. He almost wondered if it would be better for him to leave, but realized she was missing her things. Her pin was gone, her bag looked empty, and she didn’t have a hook. He must have caused that. He probably scared her when his hand appeared out of nowhere and she dropped everything. He checked the bag still on him, the stuff inside was still small, that’s probably weirder than the bag growing. He pulled out the handful of things he’d been carrying. It felt like so much more this morning. He held his hand out to her.
“Here, you can replace the stuff I made you lose, I’m sorry I lied,” he said. She looked at what was in his hand, slowly recognition seemed to dawn on her face. She looked into the sad green eyes that wouldn’t meet her.
“Mik.” she breathed. He nodded. There was a lot to say and a heavy silence fell between them, until his mom’s sister walked into the room.
Mik, I brought some-” she stopped as she took in the scene in front of her. Her nephew sitting on the floor in front of his bed, and a borrower on the bed. She moved closer and Mikhail tried to put himself in between them. It was his fault Maria was seen. She said humans are bad so he wouldn’t let her meet another one. Mandy crouched to be at eye level with the borrower.
“So you must be the one who was taking care of Mik while he was gone,” she said with a warm smile on her face, “Thank you for that. You’re welcome to stay here as long as you like. We can set up a place for you to stay so you aren’t stuck in the walls.”
“You’ve met my kind before haven’t you,” Maria said, her eyes narrowed suspiciously.
“Mik-”
“Mikhail,” he interrupted. She looked at him with confusion. “You should call me Mikhail, only mom and Maria can call me Mik.”
Maria smirked and Mandy nodded, “All right. Would you happen to be Maria?”
Maria stepped back once the focus was on her, Mikhail moved a bit more in front of her. Mandy didn’t move at all. She stayed there and waited for the borrower on the bed to answer. She knew her sister wouldn’t have raised Mikhail to treat them wrong. Maria seemed to get a bit more brazen seeing as one human was protecting her. She stepped forward and stared up into Mandy’s eyes.
“I took care of a kid named Mik, thought he’d escaped from humans who kept him as a pet,” she said. Mikhail winced, she must be mad at him, she must hate him. Mandy nodded and looked between the two. There was something unspoken there. She switched from crouching to sitting on the ground. Talking with Mikhail seemed more important now than later.
“Well thank you for taking care of him Maria,” she started. “I think now is probably the best time to explain some things. A long story short, our family has a kind of blessing passed down in our blood. If the blood of our partner is compatible then our kids will have some power. One person in the family usually has the ability to tell what power a child will have before it manifests. I was that one this time around. When Mikhail was born, it was predicted he’d have the ability to change his size. Sadly knowing what he’ll be able to do, doesn’t confirm he will have it. We keep them separated from our side in case they don’t, the blood becomes too weak once a generation is skipped.”
“So you knew he’d become the size of a borrower and left him with humans who had no idea about it?” Maria bristled. “What the hell is wrong with you humans?”
Mandy gave a sad smile, “It’s better not to involve someone who doesn’t need to be. There was a good chance he wouldn’t have the power. I’m relieved he met someone like you when it did happen though. Honestly we never really thought he’d have to do this without his parents, but after what happened it was too late to change things.”
“No one told me what happened,” he murmured. The two women looked at him, Maria had lost basically all her fear. This was the kid who followed along with everything she said. He still needed someone around to help him when he was borrower size. At the very least having a human to keep you safe around another one couldn’t hurt. She inched closer and cautiously put her hand on his arm. Mikhail jumped and looked at her, tears in his eyes. She glared up at Mandy.
“That’s a lot harder to explain,” she said.
“I think he deserves to know after what you people risked with him,” Maria chastised. Mandy let out a deep sigh, clearly not happy with the topic. She looked reluctant to say it, but after a few minutes relented.
“You’re right, Mikhail, you should probably sit down, this may be rough,” she said. Mikhail looked to Maria who nodded at him. He slowly sat on the floor, making sure to stay between Maria and Mandy. Mandy had a pained look on her face, Mikhail wasn’t sure he wanted to hear this.
“It’s been about four years since the accident, there were a lot of things involved. The main cause was a wiring mishap. Your dad knew there was a chance you could be dealing with size shifting so he had the three of you living in one of the more secluded homes he’d had access to. He was working on setting up a small room for you at a borrower size that was similar to your human size room. He always said it was harder to downscale than upscale so he’d start small. The wiring wasn’t done well and it started a fire one night. I’m not sure what happened in the fire other than the house had taken severe structural damage.”
She paused and reached out to hold his hand, “When they got to you, all three of you were trapped under some debris. You all were bruised pretty badly, but your parents had been hurt worse. They’d...”
Mikhail couldn’t hear Mandy anymore. He had started hyperventilating. They’d been hurt worse than him. His parents were crushed by the falling house. The room was spinning. Mandy and Maria were both starting to look smaller. He looked at the hand Mandy had grabbed, it was at least twice as big as when she'd grabbed it. It made things worse. Tears were filling his eyes, he remembered that tight feeling he had in the walls with Maria. It had felt so familiar, it was something he thought he recognized. He could barely register the two women calling his name. He tried to listen but his heart was pounding. He didn't want to hurt anyone again.
“-hail, -ikhail, Mikhail!” Mandy was screaming his name. He looked down at her, he shouldn’t be looking down at her. “You didn’t do anything Mikhail. There’s no telling what happened that night. You were just safe and it’s a relief you were. You need to calm down.”
He couldn’t calm down. He hurt them, it was like locked memories came back. He could see them that night in the doorway, he looked down at them. They were terrified. He was seven and he terrified his parents. He remembered things falling, reaching for them. He could remember holding them. The night of the fire, it was so hot, stifling. He could remember thinking it was a nightmare. He’d moved in a space far too small. A flash of the roof coming down. It was all his fault.
“Jeez, you were bad enough the size of a normal human,” Maria’s voice was in his ear. He froze, all the thoughts going through his mind freezing too. “Didn’t you hear her kiddo, they were hurt covering you. You didn’t do anything. Calm down now it’s all right.”
Maria seemed to be what he needed. He could faintly feel her near his ear. The world stopped getting smaller. It actually started getting bigger. He was back down to his normal height in no time, going even smaller too. Before he knew it Maria was standing next to him and he was looking up at her again. He started to cry, Maria held him tightly. He didn’t know everything but he felt like a monster now. Even if they were protecting him it was a mess he made. Whether or not his movements that night caused it the fire wouldn’t have happened without him around. Mandy watched the two, face filled with concern. Trying to help wouldn’t fix anything right now.
“Why don’t you go for now?” Maria asked. Mandy nodded. She was careful as she stood to leave. Trying to keep her movements slow and quiet. She made it to the door before looking back at the two of them once more.
“I’ll come back in a few hours with dinner, feel free to come get me if you need anything,” Mandy said. She left the door partially open and disappeared. Maria focused back on the crying Mikhail. She gently rubbed his back, placing her head on his. She couldn’t leave when this kid needed someone so badly. It took a while before he finally quieted down to sniffles. He wouldn’t meet her eyes though.
“Hey,” she said. He stiffened but didn’t look. She grabbed the hook he’d offered her earlier from where she’d tied it to her waist. “I gave you this didn’t I? You still need it, can’t be a borrower without a good hook.”
He sniffled, “I’m not a borrower, I’m not a human either. I’m worse than the humans that you told me about.”
“The humans I told you about didn’t see borrowers as people. Seems like I found some crazy humans that do. Kiddo, you didn’t hear everything she said, did you?”
“I hurt them, I could have hurt you all day, I could have hurt you both just now.”
“You didn’t. You’ll get the hang of this thing you can do. I might even hang around for a while until you do. Wouldn’t want you lost and confused as a borrower even if there’s a human who seems like they won’t hurt you.”
Mikhail hugged her tightly. Maria was the first person who cared about him since then and it helped she could look past his size, or well sizes. It took a while to adjust to everything, but Maria wound up staying with the two. Mandy basically adopted her, and she wasn’t willing to leave Mikhail. It took a few years before he finally got his abilities stable, during that time there had been a number of mishaps. He’d even found borrowers a few times, the first time he terrified them. He learned after that not to let them know his real size.
…”Maria usually takes care of borrowers I find who I get out of risky houses. She’ll get them what they need and either move them to a new house or let me know where to go and I take them. Mandy helps when I can’t. It’s been pretty normal over the years. Maria used to sneak around with me too. If she thought I might lose it she’d sneak along hiding in a bag,” Mikhail let out a strangled laugh. He didn’t want to look at Ian, he knew what it sounded like where his parents were concerned. Mikhail was a lot more of a monster than the average humans were to borrowers. The last person he’d told called him a monster too. Mandy and Maria knew he was telling someone, they were ready for him to come by if anything happened. He’d bring Ian there so he could feel safe again.
“So the hook you gave me is like a family heirloom or something?” Ian asked. “Wow.”
Mikhail couldn’t hold back a laugh, “After everything I just told you, you would latch on to the hook being the same one I was given.”
Ian smiled up at him, “Well there was a lot of bad stuff in what you said, but this was a good part of it.”
Mikhail gave him a bitter smile, just realizing he’d kept his human size this time. Last time he talked about his past he’d wound up a few feet taller, making it worse probably. Ian couldn’t just be ignoring the part about his parents. He’s probably scared. Mikhail moved to kneel in front of the bed, laying his head on his arms. He’d talk to Ian here, remind him he can leave and he’d help him. He wouldn’t make him stay with a monster.
“Ian, everything still stands from before you know,” he started. “I can take you somewhere safer to stay. You don’t have to pretend to be all right around me.”
“What do you mean? Why wouldn’t I stay? Do you want me to leave?” Ian’s voice wavered. Mikhail could hear the same fearful tone he used every time he thought he was in trouble.
“No of course not, I just, I thought,” Mikhail couldn’t get the words out. He had to though, Ian had to understand and feel safe. He knew Ian’s past and he didn't want him thinking he didn’t have a choice. Mikhail took a deep breath. “I thought you wouldn’t want to stay with a monster.”
“You aren’t a monster!” Ian shouted. Mikhail jumped, pulling back from the bed. Ian had stood up discarding the blankets he’d curled up in. Mikhail was stunned, he never thought anyone else would think he wasn’t a monster. Maria and Mandy were the two who never thought he was, but he hurt his parents. He was why they died, sure they had been killed from the collapse of the house just like he’d been injured. The house wouldn’t have collapsed from a fire if they weren’t trying to set up places for him at different sizes. It was his fault.
“Ian… I-” Mikhail tried.
“No, you helped me, protected me from the bad human. You helped Maria too. You probably tried to help your parents but couldn’t do it, you probably got tired or something,” Ian was staring at him with a strength he hadn’t seen before. Mikhail sighed, he still felt like a monster, but he’d try to live up to whatever it was Ian saw in him.
“I don’t think I can agree with that, but I’m happy if you want to stay here,” he said. Ian climbed over and hugged Mikhail’s nose. Mikhail carefully cupped his hand behind him. He was sure he’d always feel like a monster, but at least Ian didn’t hate him. That was enough.
