I've been reading this old GT book from like 1947, and I've developed severe "borrowers are the descendents of kidnapped lilliputians from Gullivers travels" brain rot

Sweet Nothings
What can a giant's promises be but empty when they are given after having stolen the tiny away from her home?
~~~~~~~~~
"Shhhh, shhhh, you're alright," came the rumbling croon, a gentle yet still overwhelming pressure brushing softly against her fragile back.
She buried her face further into her knees, arms wrapped tight around her calves and fingers digging crescent's into the meat of her thighs. It did little to mitigate her trembling.
"I'll take care of you," the voice soothed, once more stroking along her shivering spine.
A single set of tears spilled past her cheeks, dampening the threadbare cloth of her pants. She desperately withheld a whimper, clamping her lips tight as her chin quivered and her throat strained.
Her attempts did not matter; her captor noticed anyway. "Don't cry," he whispered, cupping her further between his undeniably monstrously-sized palms.
She squeezed her eyes shut, huddling more tightly in on herself and flinching as the soft touch against her back returned.
"You'll be happier, with me," her kidnapper murmured, and she could not tell if the words were more for her or for himself. Either version would not make the supplication any less of a lie.
Her chest heaved and stuttered with her aborted breaths, her bottom lip pulled between her teeth to stave off the worst of it.
The giant shushed her again, oh-so-comfortingly, sweetly, promising, "I shall give you whatever your heart so desires." His fingertip brushed gently against the back of her delicate neck, and she flinched at the touch. The attempt to soothe felt like nothing but a threat, an emphasis on the disparity between their sizes. His promises were worth less than that. How could they be more when she knew them to be so bitterly, laughably, untrue? For she knew he would never free her, and that was the only wish her tremulous heart so covetously, now cruelly, desired.
"Nobody will ever hurt you again," he lovingly crooned, gently stroking her trembling sides with a finger as long as she was tall. It was a bastardization of comfort for her, an unwanted touch.
If only she was brave enough to answer his words. To reason that her life had not been made of just hurt, and even the hurt had been proof that she had been living - had been alive. What was human nature, but for a struggle in life to achieve their self-destined goals? And so she had struggled, perhaps more than most - certainly more than many - but it had not meant that she ever, ever wished to be taken away from it all. From her life, from her people, from her home.
If she had the courage, she would rise to her feet and glare up to her captor, this leviathan monster disguised as man. She would jab a finger up to him and shout and rage that he was hurting her, far deeper than most, as this pain went to her very soul instead of only skin deep.
What did it matter if he outwardly treated her gently - if even his capture of her had left her with nary a bruise - if his very actions in and of themselves rent her heart to shattered pieces.
It did not matter, and it never would. She would never trust this giant and his sweet nothings, his gentle touches, for he had made it clear from the very beginning that he saw her as something lesser than.
To him, she was nothing but a doll, one to be picked up - to be 'rescued' - from the dirt and carried away, heedless to her protests, to her autonomy or to her desires.
No, she would not fall for his sweet nothings, for his entreaties, for his meaningless platitudes. Not for this giant who had stolen her away from her life as if it had meant nothing. She could never forgive such an irreparable, callous cruelty.
And as she curled up tightly in his cupped palm, feeling his thunderous heartbeat through the bare soles of her dirt-stained feet... she dully wondered if her forgiveness would even mean anything to him at all.
~~~~~~~~~~
;( kjsjhf BIG sad, mah bad. Highkeeeey wanted to make it so the giant does have a legit reason? Or at least thought he did bc of some misunderstanding or smthn - but for now, here's some more unresolved angst! :D
but fr this was uhh a lil (a lot) depressing ngl, but uhhh ye hopefully you liked?? :DDDD *sweats*

Brainrot gt idea
what if like, a borrower and human were friends as kids. The human kid would maybe make the borrower tiny toys and stuff. They would be best friends. But what if one day the human kid-now a teenager- looses their memories, maybe they got into an accident and had to go to the hospital. Then when they return home, their tiny friend has no idea what happened. Since the human won’t remember the borrower, they are shocked when the borrower approaches-maybe concerned as to why the human had been gone for so long- and the borrower is hurt by their friend seemingly forgetting them. The borrower might stop trying to talk to the human, and the human would be shocked about the tinies existence. Maybe the human would try to bargain with the tiny, or befriend them. And the borrower would be hurting due to the loss of their friend. Also there could be a resolution if the human started to regain their memories.
Idk it’s been on my mind, and would be good for some hurt/angst/comfort tropes. If anyone decides to adapt this, please tag me so I can read it🙂

Pocket Tiny
Just a lil' blurb of a tiny in their giant's pocket ;3
--------
Poke
...
Poke
...
Poke-poke-poke-poke-poke-
"Okay okay," Sale whispered down at his chest pocket, gently cupping it with his palm and giving it a soft press to show he understood the tiny's demand.
Taking a moment to look around himself surreptitiously and confirm that nobody was watching, he broke off a corner from the cookie he'd been munching on, pinching the crumb between his fingers and carefully lowering it to the opening of his pocket.
Tiny, nimble little hands darted up from the cloth nook, snatching the crumb from his fingers in a flash before disappearing back into the dark depths of their temporary nest.
Sale huffed a fondly amused sigh, following it up with a soft laugh as his sensitive ears made out the nearly inaudible sounds of Leef beginning to chow down on their prize.
"You know I was going to give you a piece when we got home," the giant reminded them under his breath, still smiling even as he shook his head.
All his words did was earn him another pointed poke, and he laughed again, his eyes crinkling.
The little things in life were always so much more entertaining with his pocket-sized friend around.
--------
ehhehehe thought it was a cute idea ;D hope you liked it!!

More g/t stories with dating apps and awkward first dates please! I want mixed societies with humans and giants living together. I want the main characters to match on an app and think “ooh, you’re my person and perfect in every way”, only for them to meet in real life and realize “oh shoot there’s a huge height difference”. I want awkward to the max — The giant trying so hard to be gentle and not scary but the tiny is very taken aback and has no clue what to do. I want the giant to be so smitten, and so is the tiny but they just need a bit more time to adjust to everything. I want slow burn and trust building and all the tender steps as they fall in love with each other. I want the tiny finally allowing the giant to hold them for the first time. I want the first time they cuddle together. I want the first time they kiss. Hell, give me all the firsts!
Tell me this isn’t the sweetest, fluffiest trope you can imagine. Ugh, need more of this

NOT Wholesome Relationships in GT
this is basically another entry in random GT thoughts: I always hear about how ppl would love to have a tiny/giant S/O in the, how their relationship would be filled with fluff and wholesome moments, and while I love the sentiment. oh my god does the power dynamics of a one sided relationship make a good story. Giant pressuring tiny to go out with them, not even having to threaten anything because 'holy he's 80 feet tall Imagine what he could do to me if I made him mad'
bonus points if Giant doesn't even realise they are scaring the tiny into a date, they just think that tiny is into them as well and is nervous abt it for normal reasons, only for halfway through the date when tiny hasn't disagreed or voiced their own opinion, 'I suggested tiny to get apple pie as a joke because they're allergic, but they actually got it, why are they acting different all the sudden now that we are alone?' and it all comes to a boil when tiny finally breaks down, breaking their facade and expecting for Giant to get mad at them over it all and giant is MAD but NOT for the reasons tiny thinks, Like they just realized the only reason their 'S/O' went out with them is because they were SCARED of them? like how heartbreaking would that be? And on the other side for tiny they have been trying their past weeks to tip-toe around Giant, only to be 'forced' on a date with someone they don't even feel SAFE around?!
Oh my god this scenario has been living in my head for the past week and i CANNOT get it out of my head. If somebody doesn't write this i WILL don't test me

Prompt #26 (DP X DC)
Due to shenanigans with his parents inventions, Danny is now borrower sized, and on top of that, the weapon that shrunk him also blasted him through the portal and straight through a natural one. Now he’s in the DC universe and, staying invisible, he starts to explore, and learn as much as he can about this universe
He follows different superheroes, trying to figure out what to do in his tiny new form, and eventually gets found by one of the bats/birds, who is concerned about him being tiny, seemingly defenceless, in Gotham of all places, and take him back to the cave while he’s sleeping (“no, it’s not kidnapping it’s a safety measure”)
Danny wakes up in a jar on a table in the batcave, and, making sure that no one was looking, goes through the glass, and tries to leave, only to get immediately found by said bat/bird again. Danny gets taken back to the jar, which the bat/bird then reinforces to try make sure he can’t get out. He doesn’t phase through it until the member of the batfam leaves, not wanting to give away his escape secrets
Danny always complains that he can handle himself, and the bat/bird always argues against, and puts him back into the jar
This carries on for days/weeks, until the combination that makes it ghost proof gets used accidentally, at which point Danny sulks for ages

Thinking about tinies feeling bad that they can't do more for their giant friend/partner.
Like, the giant can protect the tiny physically from danger with their massive size, but also comfort the tiny, hold them in their arms and hands, hold them to their chest to warm them up, rub and massage their back with a single finger, carry the tiny over long distances so they don't have to walk, etc.
And what can the tiny do for the giant? They're too small to protect them in any way, or to give them a proper good hug or massage. Obviously, carrying them or warming them up with their body heat is out of the question. They could comfort the giant emotionally, but in most cases that's what the giant is doing for the tiny, and the tiny wouldn't know how to do that anyways.
So the tiny feels like they're useless to their giant, and they're a bad friend or partner for them because they can't do anything for them, regardless of if the giant feels the same way. And when they end up talking to the giant about this, the giant holds and comforts them, making them sure that they don't need to be useful or do anything for the giant to be important to them, and that they care for them no matter what.

Whatever happens... A, B, and C
Tumblr media
"Hey C? Buddy? How're you doing in there? Are you ready to come out yet?"
Their question was met with a cold silence, but B could do nothing about the unpleasant response. It was meant to still be a secret between B and A, with the idea being that once they had reached their third month's anniversary of their relationship that they would tell C. But the surprise came a little too early.
A bent down. "Have they still not come out yet? It's been an hour..." They spoke in a soft and hopeless tone, which was conflicting with their usual upbeat personality.
"No..." B replies while eying the bathroom door. "I just hope they'll be okay... what if they don't like us anymore after this? I don't want to lose them. This is exactly what we were trying to prevent..." he says while silently acknowledging the irony of this whole situation.
B knocks on the little door again. "C? Please come out...". "N-no!..." came a soft squeak, which very briefly settled B and A's worry that their partner had somehow managed to escape through the window. They knew it would actually be impossible for C, but the fear was still there, C had a tendency to accomplish the impossible, such as dating two people who were secretly giants.
The two shared a look of grief, and A could see how B's mind was tumbling: "What if they break up with us? W-what if they leave us?" B asked with a choked voice. "Then we let them... it's not right to hold someone hostage. That would definitely make us monsters. C is already so overwhelmed..." A spoke with pain in their heart. At first, A wanted to pry the door open and get ahold of C, but now that they've thought things through it would most likely never go well.
"I miss them..." B hugged themselves tighter. "I miss them so much, and they're right here. They're so close, and we're losing them A... what do we do..?" A sighs "I don't know..."
Hours continued to fly by till the early morning, around 4. C finally decided to have a peek outside the bathroom to investigate the silence. They almost yelped when he saw how close the two were to the door, A was snuggled up to B, they both looked exhausted. To C, this was a relief. This was their chance to get the hell out of here... C grabbed their keys and bag off the counter and quietly made their way to the door. They took their time to observe their home for a final time and made some connections, such as why the ceiling was so high and why the two always had a glimmer in their eyes whenever they saw each other... C always thought it was because they were in love, which may have been the case, but also because the two shared a deep secret with one another... one that they never deemed necessary to tell C despite being their partner. Maybe C's insecure thoughts were right about them being nothing more than a third wheel.
Suddenly, he noticed B's eyes flicker open. In a panic, C rushes to the door, his steps waking the both of them. He pulled on the door and... nothing. It didn't budge, he tried again, then he tried pushing, nothing. Finally, he looked up from the handle and saw A's hand pressed against the top. Fear struck his already broken heart as he felt it sink to his stomach. He spun back towards the bathroom to see that his safe haven had been blocked off by B.
C looked up at the two with frantic eyes, unable to get his legs to move. He had no real other pace to hide as their layout was rather open. B gently reached to make contact with C, but C jolted away as if B's fingers were knives. "D-Don't touch me!" C hated how the fear rang in his voice, how he stammered in front of them. C never was one to speak up for himself. He was the timid and soft-spoken one of the three.
B and A kept their distance, looking down at C with pleading eyes, please C please don't go. Let us explain, let us hold you, show you that we would never hurt you.
But their silent pleading fell on deaf ears. C stared at the two with blurry eyes, tears obscuring his vision. "Let me go." he rests his hand on the handle, looking at A. Please let me get out of here.
A & B share a look before returning their eyes to C. "Let us first explain ourselves... please Cc?" B pleaded with an all too familiar nickname that made C feel uneasy hearing at the moment.
C's legs were ready to make a run for it as soon as either one made an attempt to grab him again, he was particularly eying B for that distinct twitch they'd show when they lost their patience. This would be C's only chance to speak their mind before something were to happen to them. "I... no, I've heard enough, I've... I've seen enough. I don't know why you'd keep such a big secret from me for so long! I'm not a stranger. We've known each other for years! And not once was I ever considered your equal! I-I'm just that easy to get forget about, aren't I? The small third party! Quick and easy to get rid of!" C's breathing quickened, and his blood boiled, yet he still kept his voice lowered. Regret began to almost instantly set in after he was done talking back at the two in such a tone, he swore that the two were now staring right through him. How dare he speak to them that way, how dare he try to question their decisions when he was so disposable to them?
Instead, A let out a very pitiful sniffle, a gate of tears rolled down their cheeks. "We're sorry, we're so, so sorry... we really messed up this whole plan." they say while trying to wipe all those messy tears off. Wanting nothing more than to be given a second chance to try and be better at how they handled the situation. They wanted to explain how scared they were of C's reaction and how they knew he would be scared if they had revealed this secret any sooner.
B held A's hand before looking at C. "C... no, no C, you're not! Don't say that! Please get that out of your head it was never meant to get so out of hand. We swear we would have told you a-and it was supposed to be a whole setup and everything!" Slowly B moved their hand closer to C. C hadn't even noticed B's hand. they were too occupied by their heart ringing in their ears and the sight of A sobbing in B's arms. Even B looked completely heartbroken.
When C suddenly felt B's hand wrap around his waist and legs, he began to frantically squirm, watching and attempting to push away any enclosing fingers that hugged his body. "n-no stop! Stop!!" C yelped. "I-it's okay! It's okay, I won't drop you, I promise you C..." B spoke with a gentle yet strained voice, trying to hide the pump in his throat as he felt his panicked lover squirm and scratch. Wincing a little as he felt warm tears drip down his fingers.
A quickly wiped his tears and let B open their hand. The two had talked for hours about what it would be like to hold C in their hands, how they wanted C to take naps, demand being held, how soft he would feel... this would probably not be the case anymore... "Cc..." A spoke softly. B looked at C. "I'm sorry I... I just wanted to be near you. Please don't be scared, A and I... we were trying to prevent this reaction, but it just happened. A-and now everything seems forced and-and the timing is terrible and we're scared we're going to lose you! We don't want to lose you C. Please, please believe us, we promise there's nothing else to hide from you, we will tell you everything... let us prove it to you... we will do anything to make up for this mess."
C was a shivering mess. They looked at both lovers like they were predators despite the duo's best attempts to calm him, giving gentle rubs and holding him against their chest. Talking to him with a soft and sweet voice that tried to reassure him that he was safe and that they would never hurt him while also repeatedly apologizing. This continued till the sun rose, and C finally passed out on B's chest.
The two laid him in bed, their poor C was exhausted, their cheeks stained with tear marks and their eyes were puffy, their body never stopped shivering and every now and then they'd jolt and mumble incoherently. The two looked at each other with equally stained cheeks and puffy eyes. They decided it would be best for them to shrink down to the size C was familiar with. B held C's hand and gently kissed their forehead while A kissed C's cheek and snuggled up to spoon him. The 3 got cuddled up together and fell into a deep sleep... hopefully, when C woke up, they'd be more willing to talk. But they couldn't be certain. All they could really focus on was that C was in their arms, and hopefully, after some time, they'd be able to sleep together without fear.

Pinned Down
Premise: A giant pins down a tiny by their stomach no matter how much they writhe and squirm.
Little does tiny Lai know, but his high school bully Core is about to make that the least of his worries!
~~~~~~~~~~
"C'mon sweetheart, put some effort into it," the giant - Core - encouraged oh-so-caringly, his grin widening as Lai continued to struggle fruitlessly from beneath his thumb.
Lai pushed hard against the underside of the pad of the digit, arms straining with the effort, but it was for nothing. The giant's - his bully's - his tormentor's - thumb remained pressed firmly against his vulnerable stomach, keeping him pinned to the desk beneath him.
Sweat was beginning to bead along the tiny's brow from the exertion of his efforts, but he needed to escape - fast.
School had only just ended a few minutes ago, which meant that there were still plenty of tinies and actually decent giants roaming the halls to help him. The longer Lai stayed stuck under Core's thumb, though, the more his chances of escaping and finding someone to keep the giant away dwindled down to nothing.
Core rubbed his thumb along Lai's stomach, brushing up against the tiny's ribs and back down over his abdomen, pressing ever so slightly more against the soft, squishy skin.
Lai squirmed in discomfort, squeezing his eyes shut and trying to shove himself forwards to slide out from under the giant's thumb instead of uselessly trying to push his massive finger up, but it didn't work.
His tormentor just laughed, head propped up against his free hand with his elbow resting against the table to support it. His cheek was pressed against his fist, further crinkling his eye, which was already crescented with the force of his too-wide smile.
"Get. Off of me." Lai wheezed up to him, baring his teeth through his panting.
Core only laughed, rubbing another circle against the tiny's stomach that might've tickled if Lai's abdominals weren't already burning from his continuous strain.
His giant captor leaned in, coming closer and closer until his face was only a scant inch from Lai's own, the tiny's eyes going wide and his form still like a hare under a hawk's eye.
"Or what?" the giant breathed, the warm mintiness of his breath gusting out over the tiny trapped beneath his single thumb.
It took Lai too long to find his words, and when he did, he tried and failed to ignore how they trembled. "B-because - I - I'll tell," he strangled out, swallowing forcefully around the quiver in his throat.
Core only laughed, showing off his sharp canines and exhaling another too-warm breath over Kai's trapped body, eyes glittering. "'cause that's worked out so well for you so far," the giant teased, giving a careful yet firm press of his thumb against Lai's stomach that had the tiny gasping and squirming again at the uncomfortable sensation of his organs shifting ever-so-slightly with the force of it.
Almost worse than that, though, was the cold, hard truth to Core's words. Because Lai had tried to speak up about the bullying before. About how Core wouldn't leave him alone even when Lai explicitly requested him to. About how Core would pick him up without permission, carrying him around wherever he wanted and ignoring Lai's cries until they petered off into defeated pleas. About how Core would poke him whenever he felt like it, an action made monumentally different than how it sounded when a single prod from the giant often sent Lai toppling over.
Lai had told of it all. After months of the same treatment, of bearing it with thinned lips and a set jaw, he'd broken down.
And nothing had happened.
Or, well, something had happened: his life turning into a living hell.
He'd thought Core had been bad before, but it was nothing compared to how the giant treated him after.
Before, Core's attentions on him were definitely intrusive, crossing boundaries and disrespecting his autonomy. But at least it wasn't for too long. Just half an hour at most during their free period, where there weren't classes to restrain the giant from acting out. And it wasn't every day either - closer to once or twice a week.
Now, however, Core's presence was constant. Every day of the school week and nearly every hour within that, the giant found some way in which to torment Lai.
And the tiny was soon informed why by the gleeful giant himself.
The principal was Core's father. Not only that, but the man had a not-so-secret disdain for tinies as a whole. Of course nothing would be done about Core's treatment of a single one of them.
It seemed the very proof of as much was what had 'freed' Core to fully letting loose his desires on tormenting his unwilling little tiny.
And Lai hated him for it. Hated Core for his blatant disregard of Lai's autonomy, his person-hood.
It was that sudden, horrible thought that was what made Lai's next words spill free from him in a rush.
Those thoughts were what had Lai making the worst mistake of his short life.
He blurted out, "I'll go to the Dean!" The Dean, who was the only man above the school's principal that had any sway over what happened within the facility. A man - a giant - who was also firmly in support of the protection of tiny rights.
Above him, Core stilled.
Lai stared up at him, wide-eyed, his breath momentarily pausing in his chest as he found himself caught under the giant's gaze.
Core had stilled, yes, but not in the way Lai had. Not like prey under the eyes of a predator.
No, Core's eyes darkened slowly, inexorably, and fell half-lidded. His lips tilted up into a gleefully cruel smirk, and his thumb carefully pressed down just enough for Lai to gasp in fear at the threat.
"We can't have that, now can we?" Core murmured gently, even as his hand moved too fast for Lai to even process, catching the tiny up in the giant's too-warm fist.
"Wh-what?" the tiny forced himself to stutter out, his breath hitching. It was only now, as he stared up into Core's blank eyes that were usually so expressive, that he truly felt the stirrings of complete, irrefutable fear at being within the giant's hold.
"We can't have you go tattling to the Dean," Core obligingly explained, rubbing his thumb against the tiny's cheek despite how Lai tried to squirm away from the intrusive touch. Core clicked his tongue scoldingly, making Lai flinch. "Guess I'll just have to take you with me."
For a second, the tiny didn't process the words. Even when he did, he could only stare up at the giant uncomprehendingly.
Core saw his look - his lack of understanding - and gave a sickeningly sweet coo. "Don't worry, little thing, I'll take good care of you."
Lai's cry of disbelieving, rapid and all-encompassing panic was muffled as he abruptly found himself encased in darkness, the giant's hand still firmly around him and keeping him locked in place.
It dawned on the tiny. He was in Core's pocket. He was in Core's pocket, and he wouldn't be let go.
There was shifting and movement around him, no other acknowledgment to the tiny's trapped form, and the realization was set in stone.
The giant was taking him home, and Lai didn't know if he'd ever escape from it.
pepper & felix
part one
In this universe, when a person turns 21, they gain the ability to communicate with their soulmate telepathically. For the borrower Pepper, this turns out to be quite a shock. word count: 2.9k
“Can you hear me?”
The words floated around Pepper’s mind for a moment, soft and fuzzy as if he was hearing them from a distance.
“Hello? Can you hear this?”
Pepper spun in a circle, searching for the source of the strange voice, but he was completely alone in the secluded area under a floorboard. He tensed up, briefly remembering a myth he had been told as a child, of soulmates and telepathic connections. He hadn’t thought it had been real, but…
“I’ll just try again later.”
After that, the voice went quiet, and the fuzzy feeling in Pepper’s mind vanished. He spent the next few seconds staring around at his surroundings, heart heavy. Once he was certain that he was completely alone, he tightened his grip on his satchel and continued his trek back home.
He could worry about the messages after he rationed out his food for the week.
The second time Pepper’s mind was filled with someone’s else’s voice, he felt more prepared.
The wiry black-haired borrower was sitting in his hammock, a thick piece of fabric being held up by two push pins in the wall. He had been absentmindedly scribbling in his journal when he heard it.
“Hello?”
Pepper bit his lip. He briefly thought back to the myth, stomach currently twisting in knots.
“It’s me. Your soulmate.”
A chill settled into Pepper’s stomach, and he drew his knees closer to his chest.
“Um, if you want to talk back, just interlock your fingers and press them to your chest. And then I’ll be able to hear you.”
Pepper didn’t really understand how moving his hands somehow would allow this mystery voice to hear him, but he knew that being heard was not something borrowers wanted. He drew his bottom lip into his mouth, vaguely wondering if he was going crazy.
The voice had gone quiet for a moment, clearly waiting for him to respond.
Pepper could hear the disappointment as the voice said, “It’s okay if you don’t want to talk. I don’t even know if you can hear this. But, I just wanted to say hi. We’re… We’re soulmates.”
Soulmates? Pepper swallowed hard. Most borrowers go their whole lives without seeing more than fifty others of their kind, and they needed to be incredibly lucky to find someone they liked enough to start a relationship with. The idea that there was another borrower out there, that was supposedly “perfect” for Pepper, was astounding.
What if his soulmate was hundreds of miles away, hiding somewhere across the country? Pepper would never be able to meet them.
“I just turned twenty-one a few days ago. You know, soulmate-connection age. Oh… maybe you’re not twenty-one yet and that’s why you can’t hear me. This is a little embarrassing, then. But I guess if you’re not listening, it doesn’t matter, right?”
Pepper was struggling to follow. He himself was twenty-two. You had to be at least twenty-one to communicate with your soulmate, then?
“I like to sing. I’ve always thought that my soulmate would maybe be a singer too. Or maybe not. I just get the feeling that you are artsy, too, you know?”
The borrower shifted in his hammock, peering down at the journal in his hands. He had ripped up thick sheets of paper and sewn them together with thread. He supposed he did enjoy making things.
“Are you artsy?”
The voice had lifted up a little, clearly hopeful that Pepper would respond. The borrower didn’t move an inch.
“...That’s okay. I’ll tune in later. Remember— interlocked hands on your chest. If you wanna talk.”
Pepper was left in silence. His small chest heaved with uneasy breaths, while tan arms hugged his journal close to his torso.
Despite his apprehension, it was kind of nice to hear about his… “soulmate.” His soulmate might even be sort of brave, considering the fact that he is apparently a singer. Pepper hadn’t met a single borrower that felt comfortable enough to even speak loudly, let alone identify themselves as a singer. A strange feeling of appreciation wormed its way into Pepper’s chest. Maybe this wasn’t so bad.
Maybe it’s just nice to hear from someone, the borrower concluded. He had lived alone in the walls of this apartment for a little over two years, and he couldn’t remember the last time he had had a real conversation with someone.
A smile settling over his face, Pepper continued doodling in his journal.
“Hey. My sister came to visit today.”
Pepper nearly jumped out of his skin. He spun around, tiny hands clutched around a grape twice the size of his head. When he realized that he was alone in the kitchen, he relaxed microscopically.
“She just wanted to stop by to wish me a belated happy birthday. And she made me a bracelet, which is so sweet! I moved out a few years ago, and since we’re both so busy it’s hard to see each other. It was really nice.”
Pepper’s mind wandered to his own sister. She was a few years older than him, but they could be twins, sharing tan skin and shaggy black hair, two dark features that every borrower wished to have. Basil, Pepper's sister, had moved out when Pepper was fourteen. He had seen her twice since then, on the rare occasion she was able to stop home and say hi.
He really did understand his soulmate. If his hands weren’t holding the grape, he might have considered saying so.
“I don’t have any roommates, or anything, so I’m alone a lot.”
Pepper was trekking across the counter, one arm holding the grape to his hip. He reached the edge, where his hook was latched onto the smooth surface.
“I’m an introvert, so it’s fine, but it’s definitely nice to hear from the people that I care about. You know?”
It only took a few seconds for Pepper to slide all the way to the floor, carefully holding the grape in one arm to prevent it from falling.
“My sister asked me if I had heard from my soulmate, now that I’m twenty-one. She’s really into the soulmate thing, but she’s only eighteen, so she has to wait. Anyways, I told her that I had reached out to you, but I think you might be younger than me, and you can’t hear me, maybe. Or you’re just shy?”
Pepper found the crack at the base of the counter and eased his way through, yanking his hook and his grape with him. He was met by a familiar darkness, and he subconsciously relaxed in the safety of the walls.
“Anyways, well… It’s late, and I should probably get some sleep. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight,” Pepper murmured, wishing he had the strength to truly say it back.
It had been a week since Pepper had first heard from his soulmate. Since then, the soft voice had entered his mind a total of five times— chatting about his sister, sometimes, or his favorite songs. Pepper was always left with a fondness, followed by a feeling of guilt, that he was ignoring his brave soulmate for the safety of his own comfort.
He was afraid that he would fall in love with this person. He would tell them all of his secrets and thoughts and desires, only to learn that they were miles and miles apart. Hell, even if his soulmate lived down the street, they would still be out of reach for a borrower.
But— why give up before even trying? Was it really that harmful to say hello?
So, Pepper pressed his shaky hands against his chest, feeling the pounding of his heart. He closed his eyes, focusing on the fuzziness in the back of his mind, tuning in. “Hello? Are you there?”
He felt his own heartbeat quicken as a voice immediately responded, bright and ecstatic.
“Yes! Hello! Oh my gosh!”
Pepper let out a sharp breath, a mix of a gasp and a laugh. Biting his tongue, he tried again. “It’s… nice to meet you. I’ve been wanting to talk back to you, but… I don’t know, I get scared every time. Um, yeah. I’m Pepper…”
Something strange happened, when he tried to say his name. He knew that he was saying “Pepper,” but as he did so, static had filled his mind, clouding the word.
“Oh! I guess you didn’t know. Soulmate telepathy doesn’t let you say your name. I didn’t catch that, I’m sorry.”
Huh.
“Why? That’s dumb.” Pepper’s brow furrowed.
“I don’t know. The universe makes the rules.”
Pepper laughed again, pressing his hands further against his chest. The warmth of his hammock surrounded him, but he was solely focused on the warmth of the voice in his mind. “Well, I guess I’ll always be a mystery to you.”
“I guess you will,” his soulmate said teasingly. Pepper smiled to himself, thinking hard before proposing his next question.
“Did you have a good day?”
“I did! I called my sister.”
Pepper blinked curiously. “You called her?”
“Yeah. To say thank you again, for the bracelet. I haven’t taken it off since she gave it to me!”
The borrower stared at the wall, trying to fit the pieces together in his mind. “Do you live close to her?”
“Oh yeah, she’s only like twenty minutes away. I just called her because I was out all day.”
Pepper nodded to himself. That made more sense, he supposed. If his soulmate lived that close to his sister he could easily call out to her while on a borrowing trip.
“I have a sister too,” Pepper admitted. “But I haven’t seen her in… maybe a year? She’s six years older than me, and once we both moved out, well… you know how it is. We are not nearly as close as you and your sister.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Were you two close growing up?”
“Yeah, definitely. We actually lived right next to a bakery, and she would always come home with the best stuff. She got me a big piece of this brownie thing once, and it was incredible.”
Pepper found himself smiling at the memory of Basil coming home with a big chunk of chocolate, beaming as she showed it to her younger brother. They had shared it and it had been the best thing Pepper had ever tasted.
He wondered how Basil was doing.
“Aww, that’s sweet! She seems like a nice sister.”
“She was.” Pepper relaxed into the hammock, closing his eyes. “I’d like to run out and visit her soon. Especially now that it’s getting warmer, and I can actually walk outside without drowning in snow.”
“Yeah, I get that,” his soulmate said with a note of amusement. “I still have a bruise on my leg from where I slipped on ice last December.”
Pepper raised an eyebrow. His soulmate must really be brave, going outside in the middle of winter! “I couldn’t imagine trying to walk on ice.”
“No need to rub it in,” his soulmate giggled, and he once again was left in confusion.
When Pepper said nothing, his soulmate continued. “So, how old are you? What do you do for fun?”
Pepper chewed his lip. “I’m twenty-two. And I’m crafty, I guess? I like to draw sometimes, when I have the materials. I really like to make things.”
“I knew you would be artsy!” His soulmate said brightly. “What do you make?”
Pepper stared around his room from the height of his hammock. A scrappy rug, fairy lights, and assorted articles of clothing surrounded him. “Decorations for my room. I’ve really started getting into clothing, too. I just finished up a jacket, actually.”
“That’s so cool!”
“…Thank you,” Pepper responded, mildly surprised.
“I’m not very good with my hands, but I’m pretty good at singing. I like to perform.”
“That’s cool, too,” Pepper admitted. “I’ve never sang in my life. I don’t really know how, and I would be so scared of getting caught.”
“Aw, that’s okay. I used to be super shy when I was younger, but the stage fright eventually goes away, I promise!”
Pepper blinked up at the ceiling. “…Thanks?”
“Oh— sorry, I should probably go. I’ve got to get up early tomorrow. But… I’ll talk to you tomorrow..? If that’s okay?”
“Yes,” Pepper said immediately.
“Okay, great! Then I’ll see you tomorrow. Goodnight!”
“Goodnight.”
Pepper’s heart was pounding out of his chest.
He stood stiffly, back pressed against a metal thermos. He was currently stranded on the counter in the early hours of the morning, and he had greatly underestimated how early the resident human would be getting up today.
The heavy sound of footsteps filled his ears. Pepper swallowed hard, praying that the human wouldn’t touch his thermos of coffee anytime soon. The human usually forgot his coffee half the time, as sporadic as he was. Hopefully Pepper will be lucky this time.
The borrower shuffled to the side, peering around the edge of the thermos. His stomach chilled at the sight of the massive human.
The human’s hands alone dwarfed Pepper in size. A torso the size of a house moved around the room, easily carrying an enormous backpack that Pepper couldn’t even imagine trying to budge. A head of sand-colored hair was turned away from the borrower, much to his relief. The human seemed to be typing something on his phone.
The human left his apartment at different times each day, which was frustrating for Pepper. The borrower wouldn’t have ventured out this morning if he knew the human would be up before the sun rose.
Pepper’s gaze darted over to a thin crack on the wall, a few feet to the side. He could make a dash for it, but it would take about fifteen seconds to get there, and the human could turn around in any of those seconds… Pepper could wait for the human to leave the apartment, but the human might not leave without grabbing his thermos first…
The sound of keys jangling filled his ears, and Pepper’s blood ran cold. He begged for the human to leave.
He heard enormous footsteps receding, moving away from him, and he nearly sobbed in relief before a murmur filled the air. “Fuck, almost forgot—“
It took less than three seconds for the human to cross the room, and Pepper slapped his hands over his mouth at the sight of massive pale fingers closing around the thermos. He instinctively flinched away, staring up as the thermos was pulled away, leaving him stranded on the counter with a human who was sure to snatch him up the moment he laid his eyes on the defensiveness borrower—
But… the human wasn’t even looking at him.
Pepper swayed on his feet, staring at the human who was now opening his front door and stepping outside. The human had grabbed his thermos and left the apartment without even sparing a glance in Pepper’s direction.
The front door clicked shut, and the second Pepper was alone he collapsed to his knees, hugging his chest. Heavy gasps left his mouth, as the terror of the last thirty seconds left his body in shaky waves. “Oh my god, oh my god…”
He swallowed thickly, squeezing his eyes shut. Without even realizing what he was doing, he slid his hands to his chest, clasping his fingers together. “Hello? Hello? Are you there?”
It took a few agonizing seconds to receive a response, and Pepper almost sobbed in relief at the familiar soft voice that filled his mind. “Hey, what’s up?”
“I almost just got caught,” Pepper blurted, heart pounding.
“What do you mean?”
“Caught! I almost got caught! I was out, and the bean almost saw me, I almost— oh my god, I could have… this could have been so bad. Oh my god.”
His soulmate was silent for a long time, and Pepper’s stomach twisted in apprehension, a feeling that quickly morphed into irritation, that his soulmate would just ignore him when he was so clearly upset.
“Did you hear me?” He demanded with more anger that he intended.
“Uh, yeah, I— yeah, I heard you, I’m just a little confused. Sorry. Are you okay?”
Pepper swallowed hard, squeezing his eyes shut. Suddenly filled with the horrifying thought that the human could return at any moment, he jumped to his feet, beginning to jog towards the crack in the wall. “Yeah… Yeah, I’m fine now, he’s gone. I— I’m sorry, I’m just shaken up. That was just a really close call.”
“Uh,” his soulmate said. “Were you in danger? Did someone attack you? Maybe you should call nine-one-one?”
Pepper nearly laughed at the absurdity. “Of course I was in d—“
He skidded to a halt suddenly. “…nine… one one?”
“Yeah? Oh, I’m sorry— are you not in America? What’s your emergency line?”
Ice seeped into Pepper’s veins. His hands remained clasped against his chest, although they were significantly shakier than they were before.
“Are you… a…”
Pepper couldn’t bring himself to ask. Despite being alone, terror was sinking into his stomach like a rock. There was no way. No way!
“I’m sorry,” Pepper said numbly, staggering towards the crack in the wall. “I have to go.”
“Wha— are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Sorry. I promise I’m fine. Bye.”
His hands fell from his chest as he squeezed into the walls, immediately stumbling against a piece of wood to catch his balance. His soulmate was sending him a confused farewell, but he could barely hear it over the blood pounding in his ears.
“I can’t believe this,” Pepper heaved, burying his face in his hands.  “My— my soulmate is a human?”
thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed :]
G/T Fluffy Domestic Story Idea
Okay I highkey wanna write this but idfk when, so if anyone else wants to give it a shot (or already has) lmk so I can read it big plz and thank ;-;
G/t story where friendly giant builds whole house to be Tiny accessible while the tiny sits nearby swinging their legs and watches and chats them up, maybe helping where they can or giving pointers over things they struggle with and would need help for:
Walkways up to counters/higher surfaces
pulley systems?
little ladders and staircases everywhere
hehe some slides for the way down
Ways for tiny to turn on sinks for water/showers
giant makes it so all drains have grate bottoms so there's no risk of tiny falling through
maybe a shoelace attached to faucet so tiny can climb out
Safely carrying tiny
if on shoulder, could be interesting if giant has an earing that tiny can attach a harness to so they can't fall (or maybe tiny just holds onto earing like one of those handles for tall people in trains)
giant makes comfy chest pockets in all the shirts they wear at home
Private nook for tiny's bedroom/nest
with a somehow working toilet XD
a cute little wardrobe filled with clothes either the giant or tiny (or both) made
soft bed, maybe out of a commandeered pillow or some of the giant's old clothes
tiny-sized mirror made from smoothed out shard of a larger one
Little sitting areas all over the house
in front of/on windowsills that get direct sunlight
a mini dining table on top of giant's dining table
Mini greenhouse
for fresh fruits/plants/veggies for tiny to pick/care for themselves
flower garden full of those little flower types <3
maybe a mini water fountain
Food storage spot for tiny that's constantly restocked
teeny containers to keep crumbs and the like fresh
something to keep fresh produce cool??
Appliances
tiny cups/plates/utensils (bought or made by giant?)
whittled down graphite for pencils
maybe a teeny inkwell to dip a pin in for a quill/pen
sheafs of paper meticulously cut into the perfect size for tiny
maybe an old iPhone is bought as a TV for the tiny XD
Ways to make sure tiny stays safe while living with a giant
Giant doesn't wear headphones at home and keeps music low
Tiny is properly accounted for before any cleaning gets done (especially vacuuming HA)
Little bells all over the house so tiny can call for help if they need it
Helium balloons periodically exchanged for fresh ones that tiny can tie around their waist when crossing over the floor so they're easy to spot ;3
----
imma prolly keep adding to this as thoughts come to me, but ye this was stuck in my brain like friggin' glue so I had to spill it out, no two ways about it
