It's newsletter time babey!!

I've some catching up to do 🏃‍♂️

I basically ended up taking a complete hiatus from tumblr for several months when my migraines got real bad last year. And then things, as things do, kept on happening. Bastards.

I haven't looked much at the tag yet and I still have to catch up with the first five? Chapters and relearn the ropes so to speak, but hopefully I'll see some familiar faces around this year, and new ones 👀

Last time I couldn't get to the end but what I did get through was a lot of fun and the best part was what everyone else was saying and drawing and discussing! That's what I missed the most, was talking and joking with everyone. Lotr is probably my Favorite Story, and to have this in-time community readthrough is such a treasure. As usual, three cheers for @sindar-princeling for organizing. It's a hell of a feat 😁

I don't think it's okay to use nightow's artwork to make yourself some money selling stickers of it.

While funny edits and memes of official content are commonly made and sold by creators and I understand it is a topic of debate for many reasons, as I say in the post and on the page, it isn't about the money and I think I'd have to sell hundreds to even make much profit! I did a lot of calculations and the price is close to the supplies/costs/the size of the small print run/etc., and while I'm not the best at math, the cents leftover per sticker aren't adding up to much and--again, like I said in the post--will be spent getting leftovers in case of errors if it's enough. If someone chooses to leave a tip for running bookclub, I'm grateful, but a vast majority of people don't and that's fine and what I expect. The point is having fun and celebrating bookclub! The amount of people who wanted a sticker/badge of completion was enough that I really wanted to do something for you guys.

TL;DR: As I said in the original post, this was designed for fun, not money. Transparency is personally very important to me and I try to be as honest as I can whenever possible. Of course, I'm a stranger on the internet, you should take that with a grain of salt, but I do try to be clear about my intentions.

All of your "fun facts" are either outright brags, kind of weird and personal, or just kind of boring. That's why people don't like doing it.

I mean, I'm sorry you don't like sharing fun facts about yourself, that sucks esp when "fun facts" are a pretty common thing when getting to know people in a group setting.

IMO, the point of a "fun fact" is to help people get to know you a bit and to share something memorable about yourself so you stand out when getting to know a bunch of ppl at once. Sharing something weird or impressive is a good way to accomplish that.

I'm also confused about your logic here. So you're not allowed to say something cool/an accomplishment (that's bragging), you're not allowed to talk about your family (your # of siblings is apparently uncomfortably personal), god forbid you say something weird, and you can't say something normal because that's, apparently, boring. What exactly IS an acceptable thing to say? Kind of sounds like there's no correct answer.

Honestly, if someone hears me share a fun fact in a group setting and ends up thinking I'm weird/full of myself: cool. we've immediately established that we don't vibe. we don't have to awkwardly discover that 10 minutes into a conversation that's going increasingly downhill. we know our personalities clash and we've saved ourselves time. you don't have to vibe with everyone.

Personally, I'm not sitting around analyzing everyone's fun facts. I'll probably forget them in 10 seconds unless they're particularly cool/strange/unexpected. The point is just to get people talking and give them a chance to make an initial impression in a room full of strangers. Unless you say something wildly inappropriate, the worst case scenario is that you're forgettable, or people don't immediately vibe with 0.001% of your life. Pretty low stakes.

I don't know if I've ever initiated fun facts in a group setting, and it's certainly not a hill I care about dying on, but I do think it's pretty wild that you hate them so much that you felt compelled to tell me that mine suck. But, much like a fun fact, this short interaction gave us the opportunity to establish an initial impression of you: you're kind of rude!

Best of luck navigating the dreaded "fun facts" conversation in your future life. Hope you make a better first impression next time, lest strangers think of you unflatteringly for even a single moment.

Kept this one separate because it's important and I have to pre-emptively post about it. This is non-corrupted, fully independent Uldren talking from his own experience and of his own volition, not influenced by anyone or anything. For the record.

Everything I did... I did for her. That's true. Everything my sister did... she did for you. For humanity. You'd have been jealous too. But now we have a fresh start... the Crow and I. We can be the man we were always meant to be: the adventurer, the rogue, the great hero. And this time... Mara won't look away.

I want to emphasise that this isn't Uldren looking to crawl back to Mara or whatever people think is happening because I know some people will say that. This is him wanting a fresh start. Including with his sister. Which is a sentiment she has exhibited as well.

They had an awfully tragic life and incredibly fucked up sibling relationship and they both want to use this second chance to make it better. Mara spent all of Season of the Lost explaining to us how she messed up and how she regrets it and she wants to do better by Crow. Crow is not ready yet which she respects and is waiting for him to be ready. I hope they reconcile at some point.

Unfortunately I looked at the comments and lo and behold I found the person who originated Mara hate on tumblr and harassed a dev off social media weighing in. I will tentatively say that it's overall a good comment that's at least not lying about Mara this time but this bit is absolutely destroying my brain:

"Because despite all the shitty things she did, saving humanity was her intention. I am... confused. To say the least. If we agree that Mara did everything for humanity and to save humanity, something she has done twice directly (Twilight Gap and Oryx), and more than that indirectly, how could she have caused more deaths than she saved?

This is incomprehensible. If Mara saved humanity, and she did - she saved THE ENTIRE SOLAR SYSTEM - how did that cause more dead people than it saved? What is the math here? I am bad at math, but it is logistically impossible to save the entire solar system and be responsible for more deaths than there are people in the solar system.

People really can't accept that Mara's concern has always been humanity and that she sacrificed even her own life for it. Lucky for her, her gamble against Oryx worked, but it could've easily not have worked. She didn't know what would happen. She did it anyway because that sacrifice saved the entire solar system.

partially picked bc of splatoon but also i think it really fits Henry. Also like i guess he deserves a cool-lookin phone (he doesn't but it still fits)

Admittingly, I didn't have any other phones I can think of that could fit her vibes except garfield phone. cat lady moments. Other than that, the princess telephone was another retro telephone brand that i dont really see a lot. can't find a nice striped one though

assassins for one! yagi starts teaching izuku assassin stuff before ua, which is a convenient head start for him, but it also means am goes into ua with some teaching experience. would that color his classes there? no lethal techniques, but tracking and other techniques I imagine would make it. esp when afo is confirmed alive and midoriya could use experience. why are all might's classes so oddly underground-oriented, they wonder. still some private lessons w/ midoriya but less time for them.

Hmm yeah I'd say while tracking, stealth, speed, and lethal moves to watch out for from villains and other such information ends up in All Might's lessons more than in canon.... I don't know if I'd say his method of teaching that information would be better in the first semester. (Teaching one kid enthusiastic about murder is very different than slipping techniques into a lesson for twenty very different kids)

it does get ramped up (along with his teaching skills) over time and especially after summer, yeah. More direct, more scaffolded, more metacognition built in, plus the worry about the class's safety. Izuku's still better at passing it on to the classmates he does though

Hey guys. It's been um *checks watch* like 5 or 6 years since I've used this blog. How's everybody doing? Sorry for the unannounced hiatus all that time ago.

I don't know if this blog will become active again. However there is a good chance that it might! I'm starting to create a plot for the blog's characters (because I still love them dearly), so hopefully I can create that and get this show up and running again. I've also been updating everyone's refs. So even if I don't come back to posting here officially, I think I'm going to at least upload those. I also have some new characters in the works that I may post refs for if I don't go thru with returning/making this blog more plot-centric.

I really do want to return to sometimes-stufful. However I'm an adult now (I'm literally about to turn 25 in 10 days, holy shit), and the past few years have been rough as hell on my mental health. I've lost a lot, and am just starting to heal from everything that's gone down. And I work full time, and have a datemate now, so finding the chance to draw is difficult. But this blog helped me on my art journey before. And I'd love to use it as an excuse to draw more, which is the main thing that pulling me back into the pokemon ask community. Another thing that's been pulling me back is the strong af urge to create content for my characters. Because I still love them so very much. I think about them so often that I want to put them in Situations and share it all with you. Although first I wanna get better at drawing humans lol (its relevant I swear). But I could get back into the swing of drawing some 'mons if I really set myself out to.

Let's see how it all goes. I'll keep you all updated. For those of you who have stuck around waiting so long, thank you. I hope to join you in this community again soon.

how do you decide what books to read?

oh! i have many devious methods. i get recs from friends/family/mutuals, i plough through the entire works of authors who have written one book i've liked, i check rec lists e.g. on library websites or goodreads, and awards lists e.g. the man booker prize, but my fave way is to go and browse in a bookstore for 7 hours, scope out the books i'd like to read, write them down, then go home and borrow them from my local library (for free!!! support your local libraries kids!!!!) and THEN only if they're great will i keep a lookout for them in second hand stores and eventually get myself a copy
