"Recently, a wave of fresh paranormal romance books have hit the shelves. The real question is, which new books should you pick up?

Paranormal romance is a subgenre of romance that follows the HEA/HFN (happily ever after/ happy for now) arc of human, non-human, and/or superhuman characters. The paranormal beings involved could be ghosts, werewolves, vampires, witches, or other supernatural creatures of legend that slot into a paranormal version of our world. If it’s in a high fantasy otherworld or is a monster romance, I am following the judgment of fellow Book Riot writer Jessica Pryde in her paranormal romance recommendation list and disqualifying them from this round-up.

As a longtime fan of the genre, I have plenty of backlist recommendations and a carefully curated list of fresh paranormal romance books. Every book here was published in the last five years, between 2019 and 2024. As a general personal rule, I like my paranormal romance to have believable, well-developed characters and a plot that hooks me in. If either the love interests or plot are paper-thin, my attention swiftly drifts. So, if you are looking for a witch, werewolf, vamp, or otherwise paranormal being falling in love, I’ve decided these are the ones you should read."

I was updating my profile photo when I realized I never introduced myself on this platform, so here’s a little about me. Hey, I’m Azalea Crowley. I’m an author, artist, astronomer. Okay, one of these is probably a lie. It’s the author part, you got me. I write quirky stories about classic movie monsters that are chaotic and funny. The sole heir of two families, you found yourself wanting and asking for nothing. Whether it was a toy or a pet, you got it all. You were never spoiled, never crying or demanding for things, but when you did demand, those requests had to be immediately obeyed. Fortunately for your family, those requests have been scarce, until one fateful day when you met Iris Vampire. It was love at first sight, or whatever next to love it is that humans felt and yearned for. They were everything noble and charming and just the perfect match - but they were engaged to be married to someone else. Both of you have been in despair over it and you refused to attend their wedding. Imagine your surprise when you learned of their runaway bride and with glee you found yourself accepting their proposal before that same year came to its end. For decades, you enjoyed the bliss and affection only a happily married couple can know. You were aware of others’ envious looks and how the tongues wagged behind you, but you simply didn’t care. He brings you peace, and serenity, and whenever you leave the confession room you feel elevated, calm. It’s been a while since your last visit so you’ve been meaning to drop by for another chat.

HEMLOCK SIREN. The priest’s wife is odd. There’s something dangerous about her and while you don’t know what it is, you try not to spend too much time in her presence. When she looks at you it feels as if she can look deep into your soul, and for a few moments there you find yourself terrified of what she might discover.
