Theory of the Unconscious Mind: Freud developed the theory that human behaviour is largely influenced by the unconscious mind, which includes desires, memories, and experiences that are not accessible to the conscious mind. He introduced the concepts of the id, ego, and superego as the three parts of the human psyche.

Dream Interpretation: Freud believed that dreams are a form of wish fulfilment and provide insights into the unconscious mind. His book "The Interpretation of Dreams" (1899) is one of his most famous works, where he detailed his theories on dream analysis and the significance of dreams in understanding unconscious desires.

Developmental Stages: Freud proposed that human development occurs in a series of stages, each centred on erogenous zones. These stages are oral, anal, phallic, latent, and genital. He believed that experiences during these stages profoundly impact an individual’s personality and behaviour in adulthood.

Controversial Theories: Many of Freud's theories, such as the Oedipus complex, have been highly controversial and have sparked extensive debate and criticism. Despite the controversies, Freud's work has remained influential, and his ideas continue to be studied and discussed in psychology, literature, and cultural studies.

i'm an english teacher in a small language studio, i teach people of all ages. i'm also a private tutor and i have a degree in translation but i'm not particularly good

If you could go back to school, would you?

no way lmao. i was very confused and unsure of myself and i didn't know most of the people i'm close friends with at the moment, i was drinking quite a lot and generally being a teenager sucks

Do you think aliens are real?

i would like to believe so! i think they certainly are in some shape or form. i really want vulcans to be real...who else is waiting for the first contact date to happen in their lifetime ☝️

gossiping i guess...i like to talk shit sometimes...it gives my life meaning

besides the crippling fear of terminal illness and sudden death of my loved ones...hmmm...i hate ladders and escalators, i am always afraid i'm gonna fall, especially when i have a suitcase with me! i always panic and i'm afraid of riding long escalators by myself. i also don't like heights ofc

Favourite childhood sport?

i loved diving and swimming as a child, i did roving professionally for a couple of years too. i also enjoyed and still enjoy riding a bike

Do you talk to yourself?

yeah, in english usually (which is not my native language, as you probably can tell). i have to talk and/or sing to myself almost constantly, especially when i'm alone at work

Tattoos?

i have nine! albeit not really big ones. i have three different bugs, bats and mushrooms on my left shoulder, the smiths quote with a candle on my ribs, a quote from a mcr song on my left calf and a harlequin and a revolutionary girl utena tattoo on my right calf. i'm planning to get more in the future! my last one was the harlequin - it was the biggest one and the most painful because it's in colour, so i'm gonna choose the next place carefully.

i looove orange 🧡 and yellow 💛 and blue 💙 and brown 🤎 i have so many things in orange these days and people always give me orange things...i have a manicure now and it's two different shades of orange...

i don't feel any particular way about them...paul mccartney's sexuality puzzles me constantly though

i do!! or i try to at least. sometimes i don’t care as much and it depends on how much time i have in the morning but i usually always make some kind of effort to straighten my bed out

i like 50 and 34 :] 50 was always my favorite as a kid and lately i’ve been catching :34 on the clock multiple times a day and i just think it’s cool

If you could go back to school, would you?

i can’t tell if this means go back and relive high school or something or just start going to school again. but both answers are no ❤️ i survived hs by the skin of my teeth and i live in a college town so it would be crazy easy for me to start school again. but i don’t want to so i’m not going to YAYYY for adulthood and free will

yes but it’s an entire process and also time consuming. that one homie whose questionable methods produce undeniable results

Cocaine Use in His Research: In the early stages of his career, Freud experimented with the therapeutic uses of cocaine. He initially believed it could be a cure for various ailments, including depression and anxiety. However, he later recognized its harmful effects and distanced himself from its promotion.

Freud's Jaw Prosthesis: Freud suffered from oral cancer in the later years of his life, leading to the removal of his jaw in 1923. He wore a prosthesis to cover the surgical site, which impacted his ability to speak clearly. Despite his health challenges, Freud continued his work and writing until his death in 1939.

Fears of Traveling: Freud had a fear of traveling and rarely left Vienna. This fear, known as agoraphobia, limited his international travel and kept him largely within the confines of his home city.

Freud's Daughter Anna Freud's Contribution: Anna Freud, Sigmund Freud's youngest daughter, became a prominent psychoanalyst in her own right. She made significant contributions to child psychoanalysis and continued her father's work. Anna Freud founded the Hampstead Child Therapy Course and Clinic in London.

Coalitiegesprekken Sint-Martens-Latem

Laat mij, als trouwe toeschouwer van het lokale politieke schouwspel in ons schilderachtige gemeente, mij nog een laatste keer buigen over de curieuze capriolen tijdens de coalitiegesprekken van onze geëerde burgemeester, Pieter. Ik zag hem daar staan tijdens die coalitiegesprekken, armen gespreid, ogen groot van ontzetting, leek als een kleuter die zijn moeder kwijt is in de supermarkt. En wie kwam daar aangesneld met een koekje en een aai over de bol? Juist, Agnes, voormalige ex-Burgemeesteres, terug van nooit weggeweest, opnieuw als een boemerang in de lokale politieke soap.

Pieter, onze vriendelijke doch ‘onverschrokken’ leider, met meer ambtstermijnen op zijn cv dan er jaren in een decennium zitten, leek plotseling misschien wel zijn politieke kompas kwijt te zijn en begon volgens mij toen op een weekdier te lijken. Hij, die al een decennia de gemeentelijke paden bewandelt, had nu plots de hulp nodig van zijn politieke moederkloek? Krijgen we hier te maken met het Oedipuscomplex in de gemeenteraad? Oh tragedie, waar is mijn discretie?

Maar wacht, was het Agnes onze politieke 'Florence Nightingale' die kwam om Pieter's wonden te verbinden tijdens de coalitiegesprekken, of zwaaide ze eerder met de scepter als een dirigente die haar orkest niet kon loslaten? De situatie schreeuwt om een satirische noot, als een opera waarin de tenor zijn tekst is vergeten en de sopraan nog een toontje hoger probeert te zingen.

Als getrouwe toeschouwers van deze dolkomische lokale politieke soap kan ik het niet helpen om het mij af te vragen: waar zijn toch die glorieuze dagen gebleven waarin daadkracht en zelfstandigheid het politieke toneel sierden? Zijn die vervangen door een bonte kabuki-voorstelling, waarin iedereen zijn masker opzet en het vooraf uitgeschreven script volgt? En kijk daar! Was Agnes de dirigente zonder orkest, die Pieter manoeuvreerde als een doorgewinterde poppenspeler die haar marionet subtiel door de nieuwste act dirigeerde? Wie zal het zeggen?

Wat moet ik nu denken over 'onze Pieter'? Een vriendelijke en sympathieke man maar waar is zijn ruggengraat gebleven? Is hij nu verworden tot de schaduwburgemeester, een politieke marionet die nog altijd danst op de melodie die Agnes speelt met haar gracieuze vingers? Dit politieke mimespel biedt mij, een eenvoudige ziel van het electoraat, een rijk palet aan twijfels omlijst met dikke lagen hilariteit. Ben ik hier soms getuige van een grootste politieke lokale klucht sinds de uitvinding van het stemhokje?

Het lijkt er voor mij alvast op dat onze lokale politieke arena is veranderd in een theater waar de schijnwerpers fel schijnen, de kostuums extravagant zijn en iedereen een rol heeft gekregen in dit onvergetelijke drama van twijfel en lachstuipen. Applaus, alstublieft, want de volgende scène is aanstaande!

Ik mag mij niet vergissen. Dit is geen tragische ondergang van een eens zo machtige politicus, maar eerder een kluchtige verhandeling over de eeuwige terugkeer van hetzelfde, lijk me. Terwijl Pieter blijkbaar stuntelde en struikelde over de 'complexe' choreografie van de coalitiegesprekken, bood Agnes blijkbaar de dramatische flair van een soapster op haar retour. Zal hij ooit uit haar schaduw treden? Of blijven we toeschouwers in een eindeloze herhaling van dezelfde oude aflevering? Applaus alstublieft want het volgende bedrijf belooft komisch te worden!

En voor de eeuwige klagers en criticasters onder ons: maak je geen zorgen, dit persoonlijk opiniestuk is doordrenkt met ironie en humor—geen bittere spot. We bevinden ons hier niet in het tragische epos van een gevallen held, maar eerder in een komedie van eindeloze déjà-vu’s, toch? Terwijl Pieter zich door de politieke arena bewoog alsof hij net een dansles had gemist—struikelend over elke stap van de coalitiepolonaise—bracht Agnes een dramatische flair alsof ze rechtstreeks uit een vergeten soap werd geplukt. De grote vraag is nu: zal hij ooit uit haar schaduw tevoorschijn komen, of zijn we gedoemd tot een eeuwige herhaling van deze oude aflevering met Agnes in de achtergrond? Wie zal het zeggen? Tromgeroffel …
