NOTES: Excellent HD capture of the Mexican production of The Woman In Black. Filmed with a mix of medium, wides and closeups, first minute or so is heavily obstructed by the people in front but almost fully dissapears after that, some washout - specially on faces on brighter scenes as well as a bit of wandering, audience members can sometimes be heard cussing/screaming after getting scared.

Presentato all’ultimo Toronto International Film Festival, il toccante film del regista Felipe Holguín Caro cattura la vivacità della vita interiore della città; la musicalità delle chiacchiere quotidiane e delle faccende domestiche svolte lungo il fiume, il tempo trascorso a giocare a domino e i bambini che sono bambini. Molto più di un'ambientazione o uno sfondo, La Suprema e i suoi abitanti incarnano le qualità accattivanti e durature dello sforzo collettivo, delle gioie e del dolore.

Nella storia degli Oscar la Colombia ha conquistato la nomination 1 sola volta e cioè nel 2016 con la pellicola co-diretta da Ciro Guerra e Cristina Gallego, El abrazo de la serpiente, per poi andarci molto vicino nel 2019 con il film Oro verde – C’era una volta in Colombia dato che fu selezionato per la shortlist dei semifinalisti senza però conquistare successivamente la nomination.

American Star

There have been many tales of assassins at the end of their careers of late. From the wild fantasies of John Wick to the comedies of The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard to the emotional suspense of things like Memory of a Killer.

Enter American Star, which follows a tired but very competent Ian McShane (American Gods) as an ex-military, private mercenary. While he wiles away the days on a secluded island awaiting his mark, Nora Arnezeder (Army of the Dead) and Oscar Coleman intersect with his life and shift his perspective. Or perhaps better put, wake him back up from years of missing life.

Adam Nagaitis (Gunpowder Milkshake) eventually joins the effort keeping a sense of dread, confusion, and chaos in the mix while we wait for the resolution. He’s a little over the top for the profession, but is cold and calculating and gregarious with those not in the know in a very believable way.

Director Gonzalo López-Gallego guides the cast through various shifts and keeps the whole thing moving in ways that keep it unpredictable and intriguing. We don’t get all of the answers, though you can intuit more than is said. But there is enough to sell the story and a fun night of quiet intensity that pulls you along like the swift currents that surround the island.

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A local group is trying to add some beauty and color to San Diego County.

The Artreach Mural Program is designed to allow kids to explore their creativity while establishing a connection to their community, something that's done even before murals are painted.

Oscar Gallegos, a student at John J. Montgomery Elementary, said this is the feeling he gets every time he sees the brand new welcome mural at his school.

"It feels great to think, hey, my friend helped make that. I helped bring this to life," Gallegos said.

He, along with his classmates, participated in the unveiling Tuesday morning. It was designed by the entire 6th-grade class. Their idea was to highlight the school's eagle mascot, palm trees that are seen all around San Diego, to an art brush that represents the arts on campus.

Isabel Halpern, the mural program manager, says, "They don't just start by painting - they start by drawing out our ideas having group collaborative brainstorms for what they can see for the walls on their school or community center."

All of this is done through the organization Artreach Mural Program, which works directly with youth in our community through their schools or community centers, giving them a platform and tools to create murals.

Now, this may be hard to believe but my vintage media collection tends to skew pretty heavily toward boys. So I have a smaller pool of images to pull from for girls but I do have a few “artist model books“ from the 50s and 60s which were meant to be for art reference only, As opposed to the traditional straight Lovers cards these two lovers are embracing each other and being watched lovingly by a fellow sapphic archangel. I didn’t include the apple tree or the snake or any of the Adam and Eve symbology instead I focused on lesbian and gay symbology. Pomegranates for womanhood, the Gilbert Baker rainbow, a lambda symbol, and many many violets.
