Kettle Reopens at Shangri-La Mall With All Day Breakfast Promo

Kettle, the home of the city's most famous Buttermilk Fried Chicken, has recently reopened at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall after closing for a few months. While they have another branch in Greenhills Mall to serve their loyal patrons, the original branch at Shangri-La remains to be a popular destination for friends and families alike.

Kettle is the home for delicious American Southern Comfort Food. Their pioneering branch at the 5th floor of the East Wing reopened last January 9, 2025 after closing for four months for renovations. As a treat to their customers, they are offering an All Day Breakfast promotion which comes with free coffee and beignet on all their breakfast meals.

The Hungry Kat was invited to visit Kettle's newly reopened restaurant a few weeks ago and I was happy to have lunch with my long-time The KTG blogger friends. Chef Chiloy Santos and Jem Zafra graciously hosted our little get together inside their charming venue.

We started with some of their signature Warm Brioche Rolls. These warm and fluffy brioche rolls are a good way to start the day. Choose from Honey Butter (P205), Cheddar Garlic Butter (P285), or Cinnamon Sugar (P215)- each roll baked fresh everyday.

I really liked the Cheddar Garlic Butter brioche rolls which are probably the best rolls I have ever eaten. The bread was so soft and the flavors were just outstanding. It took a lot of effort to stop myself from getting more.

Kettle offers a variety of refreshing beverages to accompany breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Choose from their lineup of coffee, shakes, smoothies, sodas, beers and wines that can suit your needs any time of the day.

I loved the Super Green Smoothies (P365) which comes with a very healthy combination of banana, pineapple, spinach, yogurt, oat milk, and chia seeds. Most healthy beverages usually don't taste as good, but I liked this one even more than other fruit shakes.

Coffee lovers can choose from the espresso, americano, cappuccino, or this pretty Iced S'Mores Latte (P285) which comes with marshmallows and a beignet on the side.

For our appetizers, we ordered the Pork and Potato Strips (P625-sharing portion) for the table. These have a combination of crunchy potato strips, lechon bacon, parmesan cheese, white truffle oil and roasted red pepper aioli.

The Kettle Club Sandwich (P515) is also good to share. These giant loaves come with an egg salad spread, buttermilk fried chicken, bacon bits, cheddar, chipotle mayo, and potato strips.

For their reopening promotion, Kettle is letting its loyal guests enjoy their All-Day Breakfast Meal served with FREE Coffee and Beignet. This promo is available from February 5 to April 30, 2025. You also have the option to level up your cup by upgrading your brew to a cappuccino or latte. Start your day with the Longganisa (P375) all-day breakfast meal that comes with organic eggs served your way, garlic rice, and pickled veggies.

Other breakfast options include the Angus Tapa (P595) which has marinated US Beef strips while the Bacon Steak (P395) comes with a thick and juicy slab of mapled bacon to go with your garlic rice and eggs.

There's also the Marinated Bangus (P445), an all day breakfast seafood option with its marinated baby milk fish served with your choice of eggs and pickled veggies.

Aside from these Filipino breakfast favorites, Kettle also serves some continental breakfast options like the Three Cheese Omelette (P335). This is prepared with organic eggs, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, sharp cheddar cheese, and served with hash brown, brioche toast, and mixed greens.

Of course, Kettle is popular all over the metro for their fried chicken, so the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sampler (P1,255) is a great option any time of the day. This huge plate comes with three pieces of buttermilk fried chicken in original, spicy, and nori flavors. It also comes with corn bread, coleslaw, cajun honey, and gravy.

You can also go for the Nori Fried Chicken with Matcha Waffle (P525), a must try with its Nori buttermilk fried chicken strips served on top of a homemade matcha waffle with miso butter and maple syrup. It's a combination that really describes the ultimate comfort food.

Kettle also serves main dishes for those quick lunch breaks or hearty family dinners. The Angus Roast Beef Hash (P655) comes with tender Angus roast beef, potato hash, house gravy, and steamed or garlic rice.

I highly recommend the Miso Glazed Salmon (P695) for seafood and pasta lovers like me. The salmon fillet is presented on top of green tea soba noodles and doused with roasted sesame dressing and mango cucumber salsa.

For meatlovers, the U.S Angus Short Ribs (P625) is a great choice. These barbecue short ribs are cooked in a sweet barbecue sauce and are served with coleslaw and garlic mashed potato.

But those with a big appetite like me should go for the Steak Frites (P1,345) with its huge serving of U.S. Beef flank topped with steak butter sauce and served with gravy and shoestring fries. This was actually my order but don't worry, I shared it with the group.

If you have a sweet tooth, you can have these options for your dessert or merienda. Start with the decadent French Toast (P360) topped with melted butter and whipped cream.

Another option is the Blueberries and Cream Pancake (P395). This gorgeous plate comes with blueberries, whipped cream, whipped butter, and maple syrup.

Kettle also offers several colorful cakes to choose from like the Taro Cheesecake (P195), Mango Biscoff Cake (P195), or other flavors including Ube Brulée Cake, Carrot Walnut Cake, Banana Cream Pie, Blueberry Cheesecake, Mango Biscoff, and more.

The Pastry section is just as exciting. Go for their Cinnamon Roll (P125), Apple Cinnamon Roll (P145), Ube Cinnamon Roll, or any of their giant ensaymadas.

How ʿUmar received the treasure of #Persia (Present day Iran)

Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbd Al-Raḥmān b. ‘Auf reports:

ʿUmar b. Al-Khattāb – Allah be pleased with him – was given the treasures of the Persian Emperor (after his conquest), ʿAbdullah b. Arqam asked,

“Are you going to put this into the public treasury (bayt al-māl) until you can distribute it?”

ʿUmar replied, “No by Allah, I will not take this under a roof before I have passed it on.”

So they put it in the middle of the mosque and spent the night guarding it.

In the morning, ʿUmar uncovered the treasure and saw such an amount of gold and silver that it almost shone; so he began to cry. ʿAbd Al-Raḥmān b. ‘Auf – Allah be pleased with him – said,

“Why do you cry o Amīr of the Believers?

This is a day of thanks and a day of happiness for sure.”

ʿUmar replied,

“Woe to you, this has never been given to a people except that it has cast enmity and hatred amongst them.”

Ang karanasan ko sa pagpunta sa isang Zoo

Isa sa hindi ko malilimutang karanasan ay noong nag punta ang aming eskwela sa isang zoo. Naganap ito noong ako ay nasa ika-2 na baitang, nag punta ang aking paaralan sa Zoobic Safari. Dito nakakita ako ng iba't ibang uri ng hayop. Mula sa mga hayop sa lupa, hanggang sa mga hayop sa karagatan. Ang pag punta sa isang zoo ay nagbibigay-daan sa akin na mabisang matuto tungkol sa mga hayop. Ang pagmamasid at pagtalakay sa mga hayop ay lumilikha ng interes sa pag-iingat at ang pagkaunawa na ang mga hayop ay mayroon ding mga damdamin at emosyon.

Zoobic Safari

Isang espesyal na petting zoo at lugar ng mga hayop na makikita sa isang tropikal na kapaligiran sa kagubatan. Marami sa mga hayop na ito ay naging acclimated at palakaibigan sa mga tao kung kaya't malaya at gumagala sila sa gitna ng mga bisita. Dito makikita mo ang mga usa, ostrich, albino caribou, oso, unggoy, agila, maliliit na bahay (miniature houses), mga bearcats, guinea pig, ferrets, at marami pang iba.

Tiger Safari

Tingnan ang kamangha-manghang-mahaba at matutulis na mga ngipin ng tigre-canine na napakalapit sa iyo na talagang nararamdaman mo ang takot at pananabik ng mga mabangis na mangangaso na ito. Kabahan habang ang isang 400 pound na tigre ay madaling tumalon sa ibabaw ng iyong safari vehicle habang kumakain siya ng isang buong manok! Minsan lang sa buhay mararansan ang abentura na nakasakay sa isang safari jeep at papasok ka sa isang malapit na istraktura ng bakod at mabibighani na makita ang mga live na tigre na gumagala habang naririnig ang kanilang nanginginig na angil.

Croco Loco

Dito makikita mo ang mahigit 200 na buwaya. Maglalakad ka sa ibabaw ng bakal na tulay na daanan kung saan nasa ibaba mo ang mga buwaya. Pagkatapos ay maglakad pababa sa Crocodile Café kung saan maaari mong tingnan ang mga ito mula sa water-level glass observation area habang ikaw ay nagmemeryenda sa ilang goodies.

Serpentarium

Makakakuha ka ng close-up na view ng mga reptiles mula sa maliliit hanggang sa malalaki. Makikita ang mga ahas mula sa buong mundo mula sa simpleng king snake hanggang sa ilang malalaking sawa at boa constrictor. Kasama rin dito ang mga lizard , iguanas, monitor lizard, pagong, at iba pang nilalang na cold blooded.

Tingnan ang mga hari ng gubat at ang pinakamalaking hayop sa pamilya ng pusa nang malapitan sa sarili nilang lugar ng pagtulog at pahingahan. Maglakad-lakad nang ilang pulgada lang ang layo mula sa mga kamangha-manghang mababangis na hayop na ito. Rawrrr!!

Morton's The Steakhouse Opens Its First Philippine Branch at Uptown BGC

One of the best and most popular steakhouses in the world recently opened its doors in Bonifacio Global City. Morton's The Steakhouse originated in Chicago and has expanded into several international locations including Hong Kong, Beijing, Tokyo, Singapore and more so it is great that they have finally opened their first Philippine outlet earlier this month.

It was also fortunate that my birthday came up exactly a week after their grand opening on December 1, 2024 so it was the perfect excuse to visit Morton's and indulge in what some say is the best steak in the world.

It was very easy to find Morton's The Steakhouse because their huge location is just at the corner of Uptown Eastgate and Uptown Mall in Bonifacio Global City. They have their own paid parking spaces inside the building so the restaurant was very accessible.

What began in Chicago in 1978 is now one of the most award-winning steakhouses around. For 46 years, Morton’s The Steakhouse has been on a mission to provide “The Best Steak Anywhere.” My husband had dined at Morton's before at their Macau branch so he could attest to the quality and taste of their steaks.

For me, it was going to be my first time dining at Morton's so I was really excited, especially since everyone knows I'm a big steak lover. The BGC branch is really huge and impressive. The bar area greets guests when they enter the restaurant and those looking for a more informal drinking or bar bites experience can choose to stay here. A separate bar menu is available for guests dining in this area.

Those who want to get the full Morton's experience should head for the main dining hall which also offers several private dining rooms which can be booked with a minimum consumable amount. Morton's was brought into the Philippines by The Bistro Group which has been expanding quite rapidly in the past years.

I really appreciated the cute birthday greeting and setup that Morton's provided for me. My husband indicated that is was my birthday when he made our reservations so the staff greeted me when we arrived. The flowers were courtesy of my husband.

We started by ordering a few cocktails from their Morton's Mixology menu. I had one of their signature cocktails, the Seasonal Sangria (P795) while my husband ordered a Bourbon Old Fashioned (7995).

Complimentary bread and butter was served and this was a big piece of bread that can be shared by two or more guests.

For our appetizer, we order the Bacon Steak (P1,395) and this was the best way to start our adventure. Most other steakhouses offer their own versions of the bacon appetizer but this one was by far the best one we have had. The thick and juicy slab of bacon was smoky and sweet, just how we imagine bacon should be. The flavors were just oozing from each bite. This was also a big serving that can be good for 2-4 persons.

We also tried the Lobster Bisque (P995) for our starter. We told the staff that we will be sharing this soup, so they actually served it to us separately in two bowls. This was a warm and hearty soup that balances all the other meaty items on the menu.

For our main courses, I ordered the Fillet Mignon 8 oz. (P4200) cooked medium rare. This was a juicy steak that was actually bigger than I had expected. Most of the servings at Morton's are quite big because they are probably American sized, so you can actually share them if you like.

My husband had the New York Strip 16 oz (P6,450) and this was really huge. This was a more flavorful cut of prime steak and it was really special. The beef was seasoned well and you can really taste the premium beef.

The portion was so big that my husband wasn't even able to finish his steak. Now that is a rare occurrence, but we happily took home the unfinished portion.

We also had some Signature Sides to go along with our steaks like the Creamed Spinach (P595-sharing portion). We also tried the Smoked Gouda Au Gratin Potatoes (P695) which was quite heavy and filling as well.

Sauces can be ordered separately as add-ons to your steak. We tried the Black Truffle Butter sauce (P225) which gives the steak a different taste and highlights their beefiness even more.

For dessert, I ordered another one of my favorite steakhouse desserts, the Key Lime Pie (P325). This is always a great treat to end an indulgent steak course.

There was another surprise waiting for me when the staff brought out this platter while singing a birthday song for me.

I received a complimentary birthday dessert platter from Morton's with this lovely cheesecake and some chocolate mousse to complete our dining experience. Not just that, they even gave me this printed photo and album that they took during our meal. It was a gesture that I really appreciated.

Morton's The Steakhouse is another fine addition to Manila's growing international steakhouse lineup. We now have so many choices to spoil ourselves when we are craving for premium steaks. The price range at Morton's may be on the high side, but I am hoping that they will eventually offer Bistro group promos as well so we can get discounts using the Bistro card or other credit cards next time. We're keeping our fingers crossed!
