Image Description: Press Release with heading: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 17, 2024
Statement from Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre
Earlier today following his first event in Las Vegas, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19. He is vaccinated and boosted and he is experiencing mild symptoms. He will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time. The White House will provide regular updates on the President's status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.
Note from the President's Doctor:
The President presented this afternoon with upper respiratory symptoms, to include rhinorhea (runny nose) and non-productive cough, with general mailaise. He felt okay for his first event of the day, but given that he was not feeling better, point of care testing for COVID-19 was conducted, and the results were positive for the COVID-19 virus. Given this, the President will be self-isolating in accordance with CDC guidance for symptomatic individuals. PCR confirmation testing will be pending. His symptoms remain mild, his respiratory rate is normal at 16, his temperature is normal at 97.8 and his pulse oximetry is normal at 97%. The President has received his first dose of Paxlovid. He will be self-isolating at his home in Rehoboth.
Tumblr media
also did a brief skim through a cnn article and found this picture of him getting into a car not wearing a mask AFTER TESTING POSITIVE. and the narrative the media is trying to spin by continuing to state what the CDC has "advised" is truly awful.
Image Description: Joe Biden wearing sunglasses getting into a car. Caption reads: "Biden gives a 'thumbs up' as he prepares to board Air Force One after testing positive for Covid-19, July 17."

So now I’m finally back in the UK, and because I’m waiting for the all clear PCR test results, I’m playing Fallout New Vegas again.
...Because I ended up in Las Vegas through no fault of my own whilst I was in America, and I’m obnoxiously just pointing and saying, “HAHA I’ve been there! Wild.”

Well it finally happened - triple vaxxed but the COVID found me. 😣 Self isolating and taking it easy for a bit. PS: home tests are not that accurate! Get a PCR test to be sure of your results. Glad I did, or else I’d be operating on incorrect information. 🫠🙏🏻 Anyway, send me all your positive vibes and cat memes. Emmylou Harris & Los Lobos Live Show Review: 8/5, Canal Shores, Evanston
Tumblr media
Emmylou Harris
BY JORDAN MAINZER
“Behold: the vaccinated!” Emmylou Harris proclaimed on Thursday night to a crowd of cheering concertgoers in their lawn chairs, before launching into “Wayfaring Stranger” in all its slide guitar glory. Technically, at Out of SPACE this weekend, guests are required to present either proof of vaccination or a negative PCR COVID test conducted within 24 hours of the time of the event. But the sentiment of the night remained, one of cautious optimism more than a party, all while allowing for some combined levity and healing from the dearth of live music during the pre-vaccine era of the pandemic. In a sense, for the first night of what was likely for many the first outdoor festival since COVID (I’ll guess that there isn’t too much Out of SPACE/Lollapalooza crossover), Harris was the perfect headliner, not one to make many jump up and dance but instead reflect. Opening with “Here I Am” from Aughts opus Stumble Into Grace, Harris sang, “My arms are ever open / In this harbor calm and still / I will wait until / Until you come to me.” More than ever, it functions as an allegory for having not just respect but patience for your fellow person, navigating a world of seemingly infinite uncertainty.
To me, what’s always made Harris so great is not just the wonderfully weary quality of her voice but the adaptability of it. Throughout her career, some of her best recordings have been songs written by or initially recorded by others, taking nothing away from her own tremendously empathetic writing. Whether it’s Gillian Welch’s “Orphan Girl” and Steve Earle’s “Goodbye”--both recorded for 1995′s rockier pivot Wrecking Ball--or a chugging rendition of Gram Parsons’ eternal jam “Ooh Las Vegas”, appearing on Elite Hotel, Harris uncannily emphasizes every sentiment of the original. Sad songs become sadder, and hopeful songs more hopeful, all while allowing listeners to project their own emotions onto the material. A song like The Flying Burrito Brothers’ “Wheels” is at once yearning and golden, the backing band (Red Dirt Boys + Eamon McLoughlin) providing a boost of burning energy. Harris certainly does contain multitudes; biographical songs like “Red Dirt Girl” are just as much about her life as they are about longing to escape your current situation, even if it seems impossible.
Tumblr media
Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo
The two songs she performed before her encore were more on-the-nose selections: “Together Again”, the Buck Owens song recorded for Elite Hotel and dedicated to the crowd, and Drifters adaptation “Save the Last Dance For Me” from Blue Kentucky Girl. (“It’s one of the few songs I could sing at a wedding and get away with it,” she quipped about the latter.) For the most part, though, Harris did what she does best, pay tribute to characters past and present, fictional and real. She mentioned the late great mandolin player Byron Berline who passed away last month before performing “One Of These Days”. (Berline played on the recording.) She and the band did a rendition of Bill Monroe instrumental “Get Up John”, a live favorite. “My Name Is Emmett Till” from 2011′s Hard Bargain presents Till’s story from his perspective and in the most straightforward terms possible, as if to let the evil that caused his murder show itself sans pretense. In an extended time period that saw many people fail to ask, “What is the worth of the life of a person who I don’t know?” Harris begged us not to look the other way.
Openers Los Lobos were an inspired choice to pair with Harris, and not just because both bands featured fantastic accordion players, as she noted. The East L.A. rock band are troubadours like Harris but of a sonically different kind, coupling their stories with blues shuffles, scorching psychedelic wah wahs, and snappy funk. Their songs offer journeys both lyrical and musical, from “The Neighborhood”, the title track of an album paying tribute to the second-generation immigrant community, to a buoyant track like The Town & The City’s “Chuco’s Cumbia”. Of course, they did provide a little bit of a party, including a medley of The Undisputed Truth’s “Papa Was A Rollin’ Stone” and Tito Puente’s “Oye Como Va”, and predictably ending with their best-known adaptation, “La Bamba”. I do wish they had played more from their most recent release, Native Sons (New West), a collection of tunes from Los Angeles artists from well-known acts like Jackson Browne and the Beach Boys to lesser-known bands like the Jaguars. (The album has one original track, the title track). Since the set was slightly plagued by feedback/sound problems, songs from the new record, like a blistering version of WAR’s “The World Is A Ghetto” or Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth”, might have given the band an opportunity to play their new material while giving the audience something familiar with Los Lobos’ unique spin. It also would have showcased their ability, like Harris’s, to adapt old material just as well as write new tunes, all filtered through David Hidalgo and company’s singular experiences. Either way, both sets proved to be a welcome, but prudent return to live music.

Thursday, Oct 14th started off with a long nice ride to Henderson, NV from West Las Vegas. After that ride my next pickup was literally in/on side of mountain in deep Henderson. It was an area I've always wanted to go and it happened. The passenger ended up being a retired LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department). Awesome car ride and conversation, talk about a whole lot of stiff on our 25 min journey to North Las Vegas. From there bounced around all over town to car rental center to hotels on strip until I picked up a couple from Toronto out here for a friends 40th Birthday. I had to take them to get a PCR Test so they can fly back to Canada. This test cost them $150 each and they have already been vaccinated. We agreed on every topic we talked about. I would say 90% of my rights are on same page I am, which makes it more reassuring of my beliefs of this chaos created by others. My last ride was a couple on their honeymoon and they were going out to The Summit Club in West Las Vegas in Summerlin Area to watch the CJ Tournament part of PGA.
All rides were fun and exciting. Thank you all for being so thoughtful and polite.

Solo Female Travel Mexico - Is Puerto Vallarta Safe? + Yelapa & Los Arcos Video
Is Puerto Vallarta Safe?
Puerto Vallarta is located on the West side of Mexico and is lined by the Sierra Madre Mountains & a lush jungle coastline. Puerto Vallarta is known for its warm tropical weather, inexpensive cost of living and traditional Mexican culture. During whale season (November to March), you are guaranteed to see whales every day in the Bay of Banderas, and sting rays and dolphins year around.
So, is Puerto Vallarta safe for solo female travelers?
The answer is - YES!
As a solo traveler myself I have lived in Puerto Vallarta for almost 4 years now and have never run into any situations that I felt were dangerous or unsafe.
Is there a lot of theft or violence in Puerto Vallarta?
There is not a lot of theft, danger or violence in the tourist areas of Puerto Vallarta and any of the surrounding cities, but like with any place you choose to travel to it is smart not to wear a lot of flashy jewelry and keep a small amount of cash on your body.
The key here is: don’t come to a third world country and flash your first world luxuries and you should be just fine.
Puerto Vallarta is very safe and violent crime does not exist in here.
What is public transportation like in Puerto Vallarta?
Taxi’s, Uber, the bus and now INDriver are all available to you in PV and are all equally safe. Taxi’s are the most expensive option while the bus is still only $10 pesos (.50$ USD). Uber and INDriver are reasonably competitive.
The bus is currently the most used form of public transportation in Puerto Vallarta and personally my favorite! Can you drink a beer or a margarita on the bus in YOUR home country? Didn’t think so!
Is the ocean safe in Puerto Vallarta?
Tides, currents and jelly fish are all things to watch out for anytime you’re in the ocean, but there is no reason to be overly concerned.
In the Bay of Banderas, waters are calmer here than most other parts of Mexico because it’s crescent shape protects the beaches from currents out in the open ocean.
Sharks are not a concern in Puerto Vallarta which is one of the main reasons the humpback whales choose to breed here as well as bring their young calf’s to the warm tropical waters.
There are life guards on the beach at some beaches, but its good to pay attention to the flags on the beach:
Green Flag: Water conditions are safe for swimming.
Yellow Flag: Use caution while swimming.
Red Flag: Dangerous conditions.
Black Flag: The highest warning level. Do not swim.
Is it safe to eat the food in Puerto Vallarta?
Street food stands are located everywhere in Puerto Vallarta and are safe to eat at. Some of the best food in Mexico comes out of a little mom and pop street food stand because it is delicious and cheap.
Is it safe to drink the water in Puerto Vallarta?
That depends on where you are in the city and where you are staying. A lot of the major hotels have a filtration system and will inform their guests that the water is potable - ok for consumption.
Locals and visitors do not drink tap water in Puerto Vallarta, so we purchase a garrafon (5 gallon filtered water jug) 2-3 times per week from any OXXO or grocery store for around $35 pesos.
Is there crime in Puerto Vallarta?
Puerto Vallarta is safe, but that doesn’t mean you should always be letting your guard down. Crime still exists, but crime levels are low, especially compared with the rest of Mexico and significantly lower than the crime rates of major cities in the U.S. like Miami and Las Vegas.
Is there Cartel activity in Puerto Vallarta?
Puerto Vallarta has largely remained uninvolved in Cartel conflicts. Violent crime is rare, and in the few instances of violence that have occurred, the victims were expected to be involved with the cartel in some way.
Crimes that do occur are usually petty in nature, and mostly crimes of opportunity such as bag snatching, pick-pocketing or theft. But even these aren’t very common.
Mexico has this reputation…
Mexico has a reputation - mostly with Canadian and American travelers - that it is not a safe destination to travel to for people like retirees and solo female travers, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.
In 2018, AARP ranked Puerto Vallarta the #1 place to retire in based on safety and the cost of living against 100 other cities around the world.
10 Quick Solo Female Travel Tips for Puerto Vallarta
Double check the license plate of your Uber/InDriver.
Never leave drinks unattended.
Take your belongings to the bathroom with you.
Smile and acknowledge the people you pass, most of the time they just want to say hello.
If you need help, ask for it. Almost everyone is here to help you enjoy your time in Puerto Vallarta.
Don’t wear flashy jewelry.
Always be conscious opening your wallet in public.
Be aware of leaving your purse open and pick-pocketers.
Don’t carry too much cash. $200 USD per day is more than enough.
Avoid walking home at night if you don’t know the neighborhood.

**Current COVID-19 Safety Protocol in Puerto Vallarta**
Masks are required in all public places & social distancing is enforced. Public beaches are open & groups are limited to 10 or less, with mask use optional once you are on the beach & distanced from others.
Restaurants & bars have limited capacity, but isn’t much of a problem since tourism is so low right now since the beginning of the pandemic.
“Wearing a mask or not wearing a mask is not a political statement here as it is in the US, but from my observation, most seem to follow the protocol.” - Jim Kellett.
“As of January 26th, 2021, all passengers on international flights bound for the United States will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test, PCR or rapid antigen, or written documentation of recovery following a COVID-19 infection. Canada only requires the PCR test.”
Testing requirements for both countries must be within 72 hours prior to departure.

What is the weather like in Puerto Vallarta?
From December through April, the average daily high temperature is about 81 degrees, with a low at night hovering around 65 degrees, so not too hot during the day & no air conditioner needed!
During the rainy season (June through November), temperatures are higher at around 89 degrees, with full-day sun and lightening showers in the evenings.
Where is Puerto Vallarta?
Puerto Vallarta follows the coast of the Pacific Ocean & shares the same latitude line as Hawaii, making it the best year around weather in the world. Most tourists visit the East coast of Mexico first because they assume that the Caribbean Sea will provide a better ambiance, but once those same people come to Vallarta they realize it’s the only place in Mexico where the tropical ocean is lined with the lush jungle of the Sierra Madre Mountain range.

Hi. Do you have any specific thoughts about venue’s COVID restrictions (I know certain venues have none…) for Harry’s shows?
I’m a Canadian (RIP my show, I would have sold my other tickets had it gone forward) with tickets to both NYC and LA. I’m very much uncertain that I’ll be attending… (starting august 9th, Ill be able to cross the land border (air never closed) as a double vaxxed person, we’ll see if it holds of course…)
For NYC: “All guests will be required to provide proof of full vaccination, meaning the day of your event is at least 14 days after your final vaccine dose. The only exception is for children under the age of 16, who may provide proof of a negative antigen or PCR COVID-19 test, or full vaccination, to attend a fully vaccinated event when accompanied by a vaccinated adult.” (The unvaccinated under 16s have to wear a mask.)
For LA: “All Guests will be required to confirm on the day of the event, prior to their entry into the Forum, that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of the date of the event or that they have had a pre-entry negative COVID-19 test* before entry into the Forum.”(As of right now in July 21, non vaccinated people have to wear a mask at all times and it’s recommended for vaccinated people.)
___
Does the 100% vaccinated in NYC make a difference for you? (As in it’s a better bet to not get infected?) I haven’t read anything that was 100% conclusive on transmission rates in vaccinated vs unvaccinated people, have you?
I obviously will decide for myself in the end (and there are other factors in play), but would you attend a show without restrictions (hello Las Vegas! From what I read), with LA type restrictions, or with NYC type restrictions?
I know ventilation is THE thing but there’s no way for me to check that… Would bringing myself a mini electric fan help or make it worse? Lol, I dk.
Thanks for your thoughts!
(I sent an ask several hours ago re: COVID restrictions for Harry shows (LA and NYC). Just to add, I was wrong about the border. It’s only opened on the Canadian side starting august 9th so double vaxxed Americans can come in but Canadians still can’t cross into the US by land. I didn’t want to misinform anyone.)
***************
Hi anon,
It's great that you're vaccinated anon.
To me, personally, the rules at the venue wouldn't make much difference. I think those sorts of rules are mostly for show, so that people to feel like the venue is safe.
There's a few reasons I think that, but the first is most fundamental: such requirements are not able to be enforced in a meaningful way. It would basically require more than doubling the staff that you need to check tickets to check vaccine status in a meaningful way (you're talking photo ID checks as well as making sure ). Venues that say they have these reqirements will end up waving people in. On top of that the documents are pretty easy to forge. (The popcast episode about the return of live shows invovled people describing both these experiences already going to shows in NY).
The vaccines do work very well, and as well as reducing severe disease and death (which is the main goal), fully vaccinated people have a reduced chance of catching the disease and are less likely to pass it on. You asked if I'd seen definitive information - I've seen some good studies about household attack rates of vaccinated vs unvaccinated people - but I can't find them now. What I remember was the risk was reduced, but there was still household transmission. The takeaway message I've got from what I read is that the risk is reduced, but it's still there. As for the test - testing lots of people will act as a screen to reduce the total number of people who have COVID - but there will always people who test negative on Thursday, but are infectious by Saturday).
So the key point is that while these rules may lessen the risk that someone with COVID-19 will be sitting next to you during a concert, they don't eliminate it, whatever the rules it's a very real risk.
*****************
What all this means is that no matter what rules a particular venue has, you are risking being exposed to COVID-19, by going to an arena concert. Rather than rely on venue rules, that are probably more theatre than anything else, I would accept that there is a risk (and decide if you want to take mitigating steps like mask wearing) - and think about the worst case scenario.
I assume that you don't have a medical conditions that suggest the vaccine might not be effective - people that do would probably not come to me for advice. So the vaccine will protect you if you do get COVID. So the two things to consider are you then infecting other people - and your own fear.
I don't know the situation where you are - but take the risks of infecting other people seriously. Are most people in your community vaccinated? Do you have particular people you see regularly who are vulnerable and/or unvaccinated? People are in wildly different situations - and I think it's only by thinking about your situation carefully that you can figure out what sort of risks are appropriate for your situation.
I have two more things to say about fear - a little contradictory. First of all respect your feelings and your fear. You'll figure out over time what feels safe and what doesn't
But also - you, like everyone else, are deeply influenced by cultural ideas about disease. And one of those cultural ideas is that people who get sick deserve it. That plays out in all sorts of ways in general - but in this pandemic it has meant people have overestimated the risk of things that are fun and joyous and underestimated the risk of things that are more mundane (I just read this article, which touched on some of those issues which I really liked) A lot of discussion of the arena tour I've seen suggested that an arena would be a different order of magnitude than anything else when it came to risk. I don't think there's any reason to think this is true. Singing in a place with lots of other people is obviously risky, but so are lots of jobs and going to the gym, and living with people. It's a risky thing to do, in a world where there are lots of thing that are risky - not exponentially more risky than anything else.
So to answer your question - if I had the option to go to one of Harry's concerts - then whether I'd go would depend on what other decisions I had made about how to navigate this part of the pandemic. If I was regularly doing things inside, with other people and without masks (whether that was eating out, or going to people's houses, going to the gym, or going to smaller events), then I'd think about going to Harry's concerts.
When I had to make those choices for myself, I was very cautious, and I wouldn't be doing most of those things in the UK at the moment if I was still there.
I know I'm very lucky that I don't have to make these decisions any more. I found them very anxiety inducing and upsetting that I did make them. I was always worried that I was being impossibly reckless and would get sick, but also that I wasn't taking the opportunities that I had to meet some of my needs.
You have time - New York and LA aren't until October. You can wait and see how you feel, and how the situation has changed in the next few weeks. Good luck making a decision. I hope that whatever you decide it's an easy decision and you sell your tickets easily/have a great time.

John Mayer Tests Positive for COVID-19 for Second Time in 2022
- Four Sob Rock shows postponed
John Mayer has COVID-19 for the second time in as many months.
And this time, it’s worse.
“The first was extremely mild, but this one’s got the better of me,” Mayer said in a statement.
So after pulling out of Dead & Company’s ultimately canceled Playing in the Sand gigs in Mexico in January, Mayer has now rejiggered his solo tour in support of 2021’s Sob Rock.
Mayer’s positive test comes after drummer Steve Ferrone and singer Carlos Ricketts also came down with COVID.
Four concerts scheduled for this week in Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts will now happen in early May.
“This is a bummer for everyone in the band and crew, to say nothing of the question hanging over everyone’s head – mine included – as to how I tested positive on PCR twice in two months,” Mayer said.
Mayer and his group - which has previously featured Questlove and former Tedeschi Trucks Band drummer J.J. Johnson subbing for the ailing Ferrone - are slated to return to the stage March 11 in Las Vegas.
“We’ll give you everything we’ve got at these upcoming shows, just as soon as we rest up and regroup,” Mayer said.

Pidgeyyyy!! I just read on twt that someone tested positive at the Las Vegas show yesterday 🥲 I know it’s still super early but i can’t handle tour being cancelled again, i’m not strong enough. Wear masks, people! And get tested! Please! Rapid tests are unreliable vs pcr testing. If you have time before your date, please get tested!! 😭😭😭
ugh I knowwwww its bound to happen tbh but people just need to keep their masks on and get tested beforehand if they can!!!

Limitations of Covid-19 antibody testing
The COVID-19 test results may not be very accurate, especially if you immediately take the test after infection. Unfortunately, some manufacturers do not have enough precision and supervision over the production process of antibody test kits. For this reason, you can access online data on the performance of some antibody tests at the US Food and Drug Administration.
In addition to the above, there is a possibility of false-positive or negative results. False-positive results cause you to mistakenly think you are immune to reinfection. However, even with true-positive results, you can not be sure of immunity. False-negative results are also obtained when you do the antibody test soon after infection.
Remember that the body needs time to make antibodies.
Despite a positive test result, you should not be sure that you will not get the infection again. So you still have to wear a mask, wash your hands regularly, and keep your social distance to avoid spreading the virus.
