Probabilmente, se non fosse stato per l’influenza di Superman e del peso che questo film ha avuto nel corso della storia dei blockbuster americani, Christopher Nolan non avrebbe mai potuto realizzare Batman Begins, il primo capitolo della sua trilogia dedicata al Cavaliere Oscuro uscito nel 2005.

A rivelarlo è stato lo stesso regista durante il Q&A dell’evento organizzato per il ritorno nelle sale della trilogia, passando in rassegna parte del processo che ha portato in sala il cinecomic con Christian Bale nei panni di Bruce Wayne sette anni dopo il flop di Batman & Robin di Joel Schumacher con George Clooney. E se in alcuni casi un autore riesce a gestire la volontà dello studio esercitando il proprio controllo creativo, spesso accade il contrario e i dirigenti spingono affinché la storia vada in una direzione diversa da quella scelta in partenza.

Una situazione simile è accaduta con Batman Begins, dove Nolan è stato costretto ad adottare un approccio differente con l’obiettivo di convincere i produttori a investire sulla sua idea. Ma come? Portando l’esempio di Superman: The Movie, il classico del 1978 di Richard Donner con Christopher Reeve:

“Sono stato in grado di dire ‘Bene, Christopher Reeve non indossa il costume fino al minuto 53…possiamo farlo anche noi. In verità questa statistica non è vera, perché accade un po’ prima, ma il concetto rimane“.

Di fatto uno degli aspetti studiati dal regista per Batman Begins era il momento esatto in cui il personaggio diventa un supereroe, abbracciando finalmente e ufficialmente l’icona di difensore della giustizia. E chiunque abbia visto il film sa che Bruce Wayne non assumerà l’identità di Batman fino a metà del racconto, uno snodo narrativo che all’epoca preoccupò i dirigenti della Warner Bros. Basti pensare al panorama dell’epoca, decisamente meno “coraggioso” di quanto lo sia ora in termine di cinefumetto.

Vi ricordiamo che una replica della maratona speciale de Il Cavaliere Oscuro arriverà il 13 aprile a New York all’Amc Lincoln Square, mentre altre proiezioni si prevedono per la fine di aprile presso l’AMC Metreon di San Francisco, il Cinesphere Ontario Place di Toronto e l’IMAX Theatre dell’Indiana State Museum di Indianapolis. In tutte le serate verrà trasmessa la registrazione del Q&A di Nolan sul maxischermo.
