July 20th 1912 saw the death of the prolific poet Andrew Lang.
Andrew Lang was born in Selkirk. He was the eldest of the eight children born to John Lang, the town clerk of Selkirk, and his wife Jane Plenderleath Sellar, who was the daughter of Patrick Sellar, factor to the first duke of Sutherland. On 17 April 1875 he married Leonora Blanche Alleyne, the youngest daughter of C. T. Alleyne of Clifton and Barbados. He was educated at Selkirk grammar school, Loretto, and at the Edinburgh Academy, St Andrews University and at Balliol College, Oxford, where he took a first class in the final classical schools in 1868, becoming a fellow and subsequently honorary fellow of Merton College. As a journalist, poet, critic and historian, he soon made a reputation as one of the most able and versatile writers of the day. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman, and he and Leonora traveled to France and Italy. Off My Game By Andrew Lang "I'm of my game," the golfer said, And shook his locks in woe; "My putter never lays me dead, My drives will never go; Howe'er I swing, howe'er I stand, Results are still the same, I'm in the burn, I'm in the sand - I'm off my game! "Oh, would that such mishaps might fall On Laidlay or Macfie, That they might toe or heel the ball, And sclaff along like me! Men hurry from me in the street, And execrate my name, Old partners shun me when we meet - I'm off my game! "Why is it that I play at all? Let memory remind me How once I smote upon my ball, And bunkered it–BEHIND ME. I mostly slice into the whins, And my excuse is lame - It cannot cover half my sins - I'm off my game! "I hate the sight of all my set, I grow morose as Byron; I never loved a brassey yet, And now I hate an iron. My cleek seems merely made to top, My putting's wild or tame; It's really time for me to stop - I'm off my game!" Andrew Lang died of angina pectoris at the Tor-na-Coille Hotel in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, survived by his wife. He was buried in the cathedral precincts at St Andrews.

“Eloise Taylor, Daughter of Lady Helen Taylor.”
@bubbaloo2269
Eloise Olivia Katherine Taylor was born in 2 March 2003, so it’s difficult to really have an opinion on a 15 year old.
We only really see Eloise at Trooping the Colour and in the back of her parents car when they come for holidays and receptions. Her most notable Trooping appearances were probably 2011 and 2018.
Eloise’s grandparents are The Duke & Duchess of Kent (Prince Edward George Nicholas Paul Patrick and Katharine Lucy Mary Worsley) and her parents are Lady Helen Marina Lucy Taylor née Windsor and Mr. Timothy Taylor. Her father was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma before her birth and she has 3 siblings: Columbus George Donald Taylor, Cassius Edward Taylor, and Estella Olga Elizabeth.
Eloise and her family are members of the British Royal Family via her great-great-grandfather, King George V, who is Queen Elizabeth II’s grandfather. Eloise is 45th in the line of succession.
She seems really sweet in pictures, or as sweet as a teenager who we really don’t know much about can appear.
Picture is of Miss Eloise Taylor with HRH The Duchess of Cambridge and The Lady Margarita Elizabeth Rose Alleyne Armstrong-Jones. (I apologize for the blurriness)

I got tagged by @lastcenturykindagirl to do the four films that define me meme - but as I’m not much of a movie watcher, I decided to do four TV shows that define me instead.
Doctor Who - it gave me a life-long love of time-travel stories, introduced me to the concept of bigger on the inside, and gave me a love of snarky women ‘assistants’. I started watching with the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) and Sarah Jane Smith (Lis Sladen), and I loved Sarah Jane’s practical, no-nonsense, down-to-Earth approach. Although there have been times when either the show or its fandom (or sometimes both!) have driven me almost crazy with rage and frustration, I am very much looking forward to seeing Jodie Whittaker play the Thirteenth Doctor. (At last! A serious take on a woman Doctor!)
I’m lumping the prequel series Endeavour with the first show Inspector Morse because they’re inextricably linked. Morse, the cranky, opera-loving, a-loser-with-women detective is my favourite TV version of a detective (though Patrick Malahide’s Inspector Alleyn runs him a very close second!). Morse is cerebral - and while I vastly prefer Scrabble to the crosswords that Morse loves, and I would definitely buy a cherry red Corvette over a classic Jag (!!), I still identify quite a lot with Endeavour Morse. Plus, the show’s set in Oxford, which made me fall in love with the city and influenced my decision to study computing in Oxford (not at THE University of Oxford, though - I’m way too working-class for that institution!) in the early 90s.
May to December was a sitcom from the late-80s to mid-90s. I confess, I’ve never re-watched it so I’ve no idea if its as funny as dim memories recall. I’m pretty damn sure it was hetero as fuck, but the reason it defines me is that it not only properly introduced me to but also gave me a name for the ‘May to December’ romances that I have loved ever since. (I say ‘properly introduced me’, because Louise May Alcott had introduced me to the concept with Jo and Mr Bhaer but at the time I read Little Women the age gap didn’t seem important or significant to me so it pretty much went over my head.)
Agents of SHIELD - dear gods, this show! It frequently drives me mad (right now, for example!), and yet I cannot get enough of Daisy and Coulson and their ridiculously romantic yet supposedly platonic relationship. It’s had some beautiful moments that have made me weep with joy, and then some infuriating ones that have left me whisper-yelling with rage (I watch it stupidly early in the morning so *actual* yelling would be inconsiderate). When it gets things right, it REALLY gets things right (never letting Wart be redeemed and the continuing disdain Daisy shows him; Daisy FINALLY meeting her parents; Coulson’s never ending faith in and support for Daisy), but boy does it get some things utterly, appallingly wrong, too (most notably the way it hero-worships Shitz, who’s Wart-lite).
