Another was mounting the power electronics directly on top of the drive unit, which got rid of the first-generation Volt's heavy and expensive orange connecting cables. One significant improvement that enabled the 100 pounds of savings in the drive unit was the capability to use both motors as either motor or generator, at any time, whether in EV or range-extending mode. The new Volt'sįuel economy in range-extending mode is up from 37 to 42 mpg, while its battery-only range improves from 38 to 53 miles. A new lighter and more energy dense li-ion battery pack carries 18.4 kWh of energy versus the previous 17.1 kWh. The updated propulsion system marries a 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine to two electric motors through two planetary gearsets and three clutches.
#CHEVY VOLT RANGE 2012 PLUS#
It's also lighter, quicker and more agile, plus the rear seat fits three passengers instead of the previous two. Getting back to the 2016 Volt, it's more that just an updated powertrain. The 2016 Volt is more that just an updated powertrain. Wards editors called it "a magnificent achievement that marries the best attributes of all-electric vehicles with those of fun-to-drive, fuel-efficient gasoline cars." Wards 10 Best Engines" (or in this case, " When the production Volt hit the streets four years later, it was named a 2011 " Thus it was a non-fuel-burning, tailpipe-emissions-free BEV that would morph into a fuel-efficient gas-powered compact when its 16-kWh li-ion pack was depleted, completely eliminating EV range anxiety.
#CHEVY VOLT RANGE 2012 GENERATOR#
Unlike any other EV or hybrid of the time, it was designed to run on battery power for the first 38 miles or so, then keep going on electricity from a generator driven by a small gas engine. Hybrids, and eventually extended-range EVs like the Volt.įast-forward to January 2007, when the Volt EREV concept debuted at Detroit's North American International Auto Show. GM used knowledge and learning from the EV1 to work on fuel-cell EVs, two-mode But while GM's $1 billion-plus EV1 effort was a costly and embarrassing market failure, it did provide a rich body of learning. About the same number of '99 Gen IIs (there was no '98 model) - some with optional NiMH batteries – followed before the program's demise. Another promising option, lithium-polymer chemistry being developed by 3M and other companies promised gasoline-competitive size, weight, and cost but never panned out. Emerging nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries could double that range, but at much higher cost. GM was aware that EV sales success would depend on advancing battery technology. Driven gently in warm temperatures it could manage 50 to 70 miles of real-world range from its nearly 1,200-pound lead-acidĭisclaimer: I was a part of the EV1 team.] The bullet-shaped (0.19 Cd), 137-hp, two-seat EV1 delivered strong, smooth performance, and respectable ride and handling on narrow tires pumped up to 50 psi. GM's Advanced Technology Vehicles team rethought and, in many cases, redesigned virtually every element of the modern automobile. The tale starts with the ill-fated 1990s EV1 effort The tale starts with the ill-fated 1990s EV1 effort, when And the story of how the Volt earned that accolade dates back to 1990s. Those improvements landedġ0 Best Engine list. With an EPA-rated 53-mile electric range, the Volt can handle most commutes without burning a drop of fuel. Chevy Volt has 20 percent more power from the gasoline engine and an impressive 40-percent better EV range.

Used Transfer Cases - NP241D, NP231/NV231, and BW1356
If you are in the market for a used transfer cases, you can find many different models to choose from. There are several different types, including the NP241D, NP231/NV231, and BW1356. Read on to learn more about these popular models. And if you want to save even more money, you can check out the used transfer case auctions and swap meet. Here's how to find the perfect used transfer case for your vehicle.
NP241 transfer case
The NP241 transfer case is chain-driven and available in passenger and drivers drop models. NP241 transfer cases were originally used in Chevrolet and GMC trucks, but are also available in Jeeps and other vehicles. These transfer cases have a low gear ratio of 2.72:1, and two different front inputs. The NP241 was also used in trucks in the Jeep Rubicon. For more information, see NP241 transfer case problems.
The NP241 transfer case comes with a 23-spline female input shaft. While some trucks are equipped with a 29-spline input shaft, most vehicles use a 27-spline version. Some NP241 units are converted to the slip yoke design to prevent ATF leaks. The NP241 transfer case is designed for different applications and has small faults, so it is important to check the spline count.
NP241D transfer case
New Process Gear NP241D used transfer cases are available for sale on the used auto parts market. These units are chain driven and feature manual and electrical shifting. Many vehicles have these units, including the Jeep Rubicon and Dodge pickups. NP241D used transfer cases feature aluminum casings and are available in a number of model options. The transfer case can be used on both 2WD and 4WD vehicles, and is available in many configurations, including manual, automatic, and 'D' and 'L'.
NP241D used transfer cases come with a 23-spline female input. Some units have a 29-spline shaft. Dodge one-ton heavy-duty vehicles used the NP241D, which was manufactured at the New Process Gear plant in Syracuse, New York, which merged production with GM in 2007. NP241D used transfer cases feature the name of the builder on the input shaft. This ensures consistency in the components.
NP231C transfer case
The NP231C used transfer case is a relatively common model in Jeeps. Designed for Command Trac trucks, it has been used in Jeeps since the early 80s. NP231C transfer cases are commonly used on GM S-10 trucks. While the NP231C is used in many Jeeps, the NP207 version is the preferred option for off-road use. Whether you need a used NP231C or a new one, 4 Wheel Parts can help you find the best transfer case.
While there are some NP231C parts that will work in most cars, compatibility is not always guaranteed. For the best results, choose a transfer case that is similar to your existing vehicle. If possible, stick to the same model and year. For instance, a 1999 XJ uses a transmission with the same speed and torque rating as a newer 2001 XJ. Otherwise, you may have to mix and match parts.
NP231/NV231 transfer case
There are two main differences between the NP231/NV231 transfer cases. The former has an aluminum case and is used in most trucks. The latter has an aluminum case and uses a different nameplate. New Process Gear produced the former, and New Venture developed the latter. However, there are still a few differences between the two. The NV231HD is a heavier version used in some ZJs.
The NP231 transfer case is used in many late-model vehicles. It has a low range planetary gearset with a ratio of 2.72:1. The low-range gearset provides sufficient low-speed control for hill climbing and crawling. It is not recommended for off-road use, but it can be upgraded to handle a larger torque rating. A true front/rear disconnect is also available for this type of transfer case.

Difference Between TCI TH350 Transmission And TCI Th400 transmission
Gearset
Though it may not be an apparent difference between the TCI TH350 Transmission and the TCI TH400 Transmission, the gearset has a significant impact on both systems' efficiency. Th350 features a planetary gearset with a backward cut, whereas Th400 has a spiral gearset with a forward cut.
Tumblr media
The planetary gearset system appears a little more complicated. However, it is less effective than the Th400 gear set. Th400 is the recommended option for high-performance vehicles because it meets the demand for effective transmission of power and energy.
Torque and horsepower:
The terms horsepower and torque frequently become confused with one another over time. While both ideas describe how fast a car may accelerate, horsepower refers to an engine's overall power output, which depends on torque and rpm.
Th350 claims to be able to handle up to 500 horsepower, while Th400 is capable of 650 horsepower. For the TCI TH350 Transmission, a low-torque gearbox is available, while for Th400, a high-torque transmission is available.
The Th400 can manage heavier torque loads and produces more horsepower. As a result, it is a superior choice for cars with these requirements.
Design:
The Vacuum modulator, weight, bolt patterns, & length of the transmission are all distinct variations between the Th350 and Th400. The vacuum modulator on the TH350 is mounted in front of the gearbox's rear position.
Tumblr media
It is positioned in the same location on the right-hand side of Th400. The face of Th400 is wider than that of Th350. Th400 is longer, thicker, and larger than Th350 in terms of total dimension.
A solar shell with a big diameter serves as the driving shell in the Th350 since it lacks a rigidly fixed center support. The Th400, on the other hand, features a sun shaft.
Durability and Performance:
Although both transmissions are excellent options, Th400 outperforms them both in terms of longevity due to its tougher design. Th400 is a superior alternative for high-performance automobiles due to the horsepower and torque that both gearbox systems can provide as well as their technological design.
Budget and Cost:
A less costly transmission is the Th350. The TCI TH350 Transmission, rather than the Th400, is the better choice if you're looking for something more affordable with low-powered automobile requirements.
The complete TCI Automotive product range is distributed and supported by Total Performance with pride. In addition to many other items, gearbox accessories include trans-brakes, harmonic dampers, flywheels, flexplates, and TCI torque converters. Only at Total Performance can you get a discounted price on the tci 311038, TCI TH350 Transmission. Now go to the website!

what is the difference between an automatic transmission and a manual transmission
The key difference between a manual and an automatic transmission is that the manual transmission locks and unlocks different sets of gears to the output shaft to achieve the various gear ratios, while in an automatic transmission, the same set of gears produces all of the different gear ratios. The planetary gearset is the device that makes this possible in an automatic transmission.

Planetary Gearset
PLANETARY GEARSET
Planetary gearbox also known as epicyclical gear is a set of two gear mounted on each other to revolve centre of one gear around the centre of other. The planetary gearbox mechanism works as our solar system. Centre gear which is also called sun gear rotates which drives the planet gears. The load from the sun gear is applied to multiple planetary parts, which can either be employed to run an outer ring or a spindle or shaft. Due to number of planetary gears the planetary gearbox can produce lot of torque resulting those planetary gears divide the load. The planetary gearbox also provides stability due to an even distribution of load and increased rotational stiffness. SMD planetary gear trains consist of spur gears.
The main advantage of using a planetary gearbox in combination with a servo motor is that the torque is separated over 3 gears (the planet parts), and therefore – at the same dimensions – the torque is almost 3 times more than a typical gearbox.
Tumblr media
Planetary gearbox is used in applications where weight and space are issues and large number of reduction ratio and torque is needed. These type of gearbox is needed in the applications like construction equipment, defence equipment where large number of torque is needed to drive the wheels. The other applications like jewellery making machines, robotics industry, automation industry also use planetary gearbox. Planetary gear units are widely use because their principal advantage is they allow both the input and output axes to be concentric, thus providing a very compact gear arrangement.
SMD gearbox is a well known gearbox solution provider in gearbox industry. We have a long list of satisfied customers. Planetary, Hollow rotary, Right angle, Harmonic and Cycloidal these are the servo gearboxes in which SMD gearbox deals. SMD provides integrated solution to its customer. We can avail above type of gearboxes in different wide range of dimensions and reduction ratios. We also provide integrated solution with combination of one or more type of gears. SMD has expert technocrats who helps you thoughout your automation proess to meet expected result.
SMD introduced two series in Planetary Gearbox that is with flange(SNDU Series) and with shaft(SNP Series). Both comes in wide range of reduction ratios and dimensions. SMD also introduced right angle gearbox which is again also one of the type of planetary gear with 90 degree output angle. It is very useful in applications where the demensions are very low. SMD also provides you an integrated solution by using more than its products to achive your automation process successfully.
SMD is committed to developing its business through different growth strategies: expanding the geographical range of its operations through full-scale globalization, purposefully expanding its domains through the development of new business areas, and utilizing technology.
