Mark Cattini quietly left Soundwide
Tumblr media
(Soundwide’s brands from the company’s website)
Soundwide is the conglomerate comprised mainly of Izotope, Native Instruments, and Plugin Alliance. When the entity was created, Mark Cattini was announced as CEO. Cattini had no experience in the music space and ample experience selling small tech companies to large tech companies, leading me to speculate that this was the intended fate of Soundwide.
However, Cattini is out. In January of 2023, Cattini signed on as CEO of Acoustic, a marketing technology company. Soundwide is omitted entirely from Cattini’s LInkedIn job history or from the Acoustic’s press announcement of his new post.
Instead, the person now identifying as Soundwide CEO is Rob Singer, a former chief marketing officer at a number of unrelated companies. Interestingly, Singer lists himself as CEO dating back to July 2022, just a month after Cattini’s June letter to Izotope customers.
Tumblr media
Days after Acoustic announced Cattini’s new post, Soundwide laid off 8% of its staff.
So what does all this mean? Reading between the lines, I suspect Cattini’s specialty of selling tech companies to bigger tech companies failed to pay off. An unannounced executive change suggests an acrimonious or a less-than-voluntary departure. It’s hard to guess wither Singer is long for the music tech world either. He lists no experience in this space. Unlike most tech companies, Soundwide does not list its leadership team on its website.
For better or for worse, Soundwide has the potential to shape the creative experience of musicians, engineers, and producers world-wide. I hope Singer is the right person for the top job, and if he isn’t, that they find the right person fast.

The Week Begins: WaterCoolerCoffeeBreak
Yup, a funky name for a track that sounds like some of those in-between moments at work. One of those tunes that started as an experiment, specifically using a softsynth called “Knifonium” by Plugin Alliance [The original hardware unit can be seen HERE – and costs considerably more than I could afford!] But about the music itself…… from TomsTypewriter.com

Reverb: EastWest (EW) Spaces, Waves IR-1, Softube TSAR-1, Lexicon PCM bundle, Eventide Blackhole/SP 2016 Reverb, Izotope Exponential Audio R4/R2/Nimbus/PhoenixVerb.ĭelay: Slate Digital Repeater Delay, Eventide UltraTap, PA ADA STD-1, Waves SuperTap.ĮQ: Waves API/SSL 4000 Collection/PuigTec EQs, Plugin Alliance (PA) 2098/Dangerous Music BAX/elysia museq/Maag Audio EQ4/Millennia NSEQ-2/SPL Passeq, Softube Summit Audio Grand Channel/Trident A-Range. Right now, these are my favorite go to plugins for each category (not in order of importance):

I used to own UAD but once my PowerPCs got annihilated by a lightning strike I have yet to go back into that eco system (though I am tempted to buy an Apollo interface when I can get a free Octo Satellite and take the plunge again during UA's next sales).

I am also thinking of getting the new Cinematic Rooms Professional by LiquidSonics. I am strongly thinking of getting the FabFilter Total Bundle the next 50% off sale and buying the Sonnox Elite Collection now during its 50% off sale along with other Sonnox plugins like Dynamic EQ, Drum Gate, and maybe even the older Restore Bundle. Not looking for every plugin you own but what you use regularly and what you prefer over other plugins Do you still use Sonnox plugins and find them indispensable to your work flow? Do you use other plugins that you feel make the Sonnox plugins obsolete? What are you favorite plugins for delays, reverbs, EQ, compression, limiting, chorus/flanging, mastering, metering, transients, pitch shifting, special effects, noise reduction/dehummer/declicker, tape emulation, de-essing, 3D Space, sub-octave, saturation, console emulation, guitar/bass amps, etc.? I know this is talked about all over the place in so many threads, but I'd welcome everyone's thoughts on this. I see Sonnox is currently having its 50% off sale and was wondering what plugins everyone uses, which plugins are your favorites for mixing and mastering, and specifically how everyone feels about Sonnox plugins vs all the other competing brands out there.

for anyone wondering where i've been: i got... distracted... by a potential huge project. I was considering running a mcrp project/smp project, inspired by stuff like fan life series servers, with the rest of the sexyman team! but... a different one. a very specific one, even.
now, I'm aware there are probably outstanding questions, so if you're uncertain, please read more event/server details below the cut and see if it interests you!
I don't know anything about Survivor–what would this show even be like?
so if you know nothing about survivor, it's easy to think it's a show about surviving on a deserted island. it is that, but it's not mainly that. survivor, at its heart, is a social deception game, about making close alliances, betraying people, and social dynamics under pressure–hence why i suspect it would be a great fit for mcrp.
the way the show would be structured is this: a certain number of contestants would be placed on a (slightly modified) survival server, set up to be difficult to survive on. they are placed into two "tribes", the teams for the first half of the show. every episode, they would spend time with their tribes bonding, surviving, searching for secrets, and base building. then, they would compete in challenges. the tribe that loses the immunity challenge must go to tribal council, where they vote on which member to send home. this continues with the tribes eventually merging together into one tribe and immunity becoming individual before there are only two contestants left. at that time, they go in front a jury of their former fellow contestants, who will determine who the sole survivor is.
while challenge performance is one key to winning (as it prevents you from being a target in the first place), the other, bigger key, as you can likely see, is forming alliances and voting blocks strategically to get your opponents voted out and yourself kept in. this makes a great vehicle for social emergent storytelling, where narratives emerge about who is honest, who is a liar, who is good at the social game, who is bad at it, and what people will do in order to become sole survivor.
in other words: it's kind of like what current-day mcrp is ALREADY about. except its a gameshow also, and the very construction of the thing is designed to cause tensions by its very nature.
it's great! and you wouldn't be required to know anything about survivor–our host would explain to the audience all of the mechanics as they came up, as would production staff to the players.
You keep calling it "a show"–what do you mean by that?
the result of this project would be an edited youtube series, like survivor, of likely around twelve episodes. each episode would show footage from the game, as well as a lot of "confessionals" shots of the players explaining their opinions, before ending in tribal council! unlike most mcrp series, this would not be a multiple pov affair. it would be one tightly edited project. (this editing, for the record, is the largest overhead; we expect the amount of footage to go through to end up being in the hundreds of hours combined between all the players.)
it's possible that after the show's finale releases we'll release the players to make their own highlights from any footage they take. but the product we're hoping to make is just a single TV show's worth!
what exactly does applying to be a contestant require?
if we get enough interest, once we have enough of the required plugins and builds created and have a better sense of gameplay, we will put out a casting call form. while this will ask a number of questions to help us get to know you as a potential player, you're going to be REQUIRED to have the following things: a tumblr blog that you can link us to, the ability to record an audition tape in minecraft to send to us (so that we can get an idea of what audio we'd be working with, mostly), enough free time for us to be able to schedule recording sessions into, and a willingness to agree to some rules about keeping things secret until the finale airs and about rp etiquette. that's it! there are no other requirements–you don't have to know survivor, you don't have to already do mcyt or stream, you don't have to have friends, none of it, and while we'll ask you for those details, we're going to be looking for a large blend of people from across mcyt! anyone (who can send us mostly clean audio) can be considered!
EDIT: we would ALSO REQUIRE YOU BE AT LEAST 18. sorry i forgot this before! this is for a number of reasons i don't want to get into, but will be prominent on the actual applications.
what exactly would being a production staff member entail?
we're mainly looking for two things in production staff: a willingness to run replaymod for us and act as cameramen by following contestants around getting footage on the actual recording days, and a willingness to work with us on what's likely to be a fairly intense editing and "scripting" period during and after recording, during which we're going to have to scrub through massive amounts of footage and form it into a coherent narrative. we may, depending on how bad we realize we've bitten off more than we can chew, also end up looking for build team members for the production crew. if these things sound fun to you (they sound fun to me god help me), then go ahead and select this option! just know it's mutually exclusive with playing; no one in the production staff will be considered for the contestants. this includes my friends and myself who've already agreed to help me.
these applications would come out before the casting call, since even before casting call we're going to need to do playtests and dry runs and have things mostly ready. so keep an eye out!
will this be run on your blog?
nope we're going to make a new blog (and youtube channel) (and branding!) for this eventually, just want to interest check before we go through all the branding steps. (also, i've even gotten us a specific gmail for this that we will likely end up using for certain communications.)
for now that's all the FAQ i think that is required. let me know if you have more! and i hope you all are interested in this baby of a project that's taken over my mind for the past few weeks!

Good morning all, happy Sunday! It is time for the weekly update to Sea's Community Compendium for XIV Creatives. 🪸
I need to remember not to reach out to people right before I put together the update, so this is rather small today!
As of 05/05, the following resources have been added (in no particular order!):
MISC
Roleplay Sonar — A XIV plugin that allows you to see people roleplaying out in the world.
Final Fantasy XIV Game Script — A simple transcription of the FFXIV game script, all on one page for easy searching. Still in progress, starting with MSQ and with plans to expand into optional content, side dialogue, etc. Maintained by @eriyu!
Want to submit? You can either fill out the google form here, send me an ask with the relevant information contained on the Compendium, or join my Discord at SEAFLOOR (21+ only)!
As a reminder, the answer to the question of "Is my resource/community applicable to the Compendium?" is almost always a resounding yes. I want to know what's out there. I want to feature your project!
However, for the sake of clarity, I'll pop the FAQ from this post below in a read more for you to check out if you're worried. ✨
I want to put my community on the compendium but we have an application process. Is this okay?
Yes! Just note somewhere in your application that's a requirement. The only thing that is mandatory for the Compendium is that you must be open to new members or have a public-facing/accessible facet. There's no point advertising a community if no one can join it in some way!
I want to put my community on the compendium but I only have x number of members —
Also totally okay! People don't start with large communities. Activity is a must but, whether your server has two or two thousand members, if you're looking for new people to join, I'd love to help you find people.
I want to put my community on the compendium but I worry its too niche?
Okay, and? If your Eorzean Fishing Alliance has four members but you roleplay every second weekend, I still want to know about it.
What resources/communities can I add if I'm not the owner of them?
Mutual consent is extremely important to me, so anything that isn't a large-scale community OR a publicly accessible resource must be endorsed by the owner/admin/moderators in order to be added to the compendium. I operate under the assumption that a resource posted to a public space (tumblr, googledocs, youtube, etc) is open to all. A large-scale community is one with a significant member count or openly advertises itself as being accessible to everyone for whatever purpose it serves. If in doubt, please get in touch with me. I'm happy to contact your community owners for you!
How active does a community need to be?
If you find a community has not been active in about two/three months, send me a message and I'll take a look at it. Communities have ebbs and flows, especially event spaces that may take hiatuses depending on member interest/life events. I'm not strict in my implementation provided a space isn't dead. If a link or anything is broken, absolutely contact me about that.
I have [insert a question not stated here]?
No drama! Send me an ask or use the #Compendium channel in my Discord!

Very unsure if you saw what was happening with Baghera and the mistranslation that spread with her, Antoine and a few other FR CCs (I don’t remember who else was in the convo, I think Mythos was there, but very very unsure my apologies :(( ). But after viewing the clip and revisiting the topic several times on my own, the “joke”/“comment” to add a translator to TDLSMP if they revamp the server wasn’t supposed to be in a negative light and was most likely a positive call back to the translator feature of QSMP. Which, ngl, would be awesome to see happen cause I (and probably many others) would love to view more French content become widely accessible with translation plugins.
People heavily took it out of context due to the english updates fan account for Bagz due to the admins of the account only clipping that section of the conversation and adding “/j” to Baghera’s comment about a translator, which was in bad taste, especially since there was no context added nor explanation as to what they were actually referring to in the clipped section. And due to the mass hate and/or confusion of many viewers, the updates account ultimately removed it (I went back several times to verify if it was in the account and if they had added context but saw that it was just scrapped and removed with no further explanation).
After the events of the mistranslation from the updates account, plus Baghera even coming onto twitter to explain herself, many French fans took their time to explain what happened properly (I gratefully thank them for this cause it actually helped many who were confused about the mistranslation from the updates account) and a space was even made by Spanish speaking fans to further explain the error that was created from the mistranslation with the help of a French viewer named Dune, and the host of the space even tried to mellow out any angry listeners with the saying "All the CCs are friends, stop assuming the worst and any issues that they have with each other is sorted behind closed doors. We don't know them, they know each other better than we as viewers do because they are friends." [Rough translation of what the host said but hopefully I stated it clearly]
All-in-all, unfortunate circumstances occurred thanks to mistranslation, but a majority of the community is trying to be better and actually hear each other out, but sadly the minority that is full of blind hate is the loudest and puts down the worst image for the rest. :( -Anon 💫
OH YES I SAW THAT AND I SURE WISH I DIDNT 😭
I couldn’t believe people were upset about that, even if it had been a joke it’s not even like it was anything bad or negative ?
Just a full on hate train on Baghera for saying it would be great to have a translator if they ever brought their smp back. Don’t even wanna discuss what was said about her and other french ccs because it’s just disgusting. The fact that french qsmptwt users had to go around trying to explain to everyone that it wasn’t anything bad and that people shouldn’t harass baghera for it, especially when you have no context/don’t know the language…. I wouldn’t have that kind of patience 🫡
Only good thing is that it gave me the opportunity to feed my blocklist /hj
And that once again seeing the great Frasil alliance in action made me so happy 🇧🇷🫂🇫🇷
Isn’t it nice to see that when the admins situation isn’t enough to drive away all ccs and fans alike, the Quackity fans will make sure to make the qsmp space inhabitable for anyone who stayed ! /sarc Between this and the bullying of Sunny’s admin two days ago they sure are on a run lately.
Note : If anyone is confused about what TDLsmp is, it’s the name fans came up with to talk about a minecraft server Antoine, Baghera, Etoiles and others french ccs played on for a little while I think two years ago ?
TDL means Team du Lundi aka Monday Team, and it refers to their friend group who stream every monday together on different multiplayer games (Lethal Company, Worms, Golf Gang, and many many more).
The server was vanilla and just a way to play Minecraft together, nothing special really, but it was very very fun to watch ! And so yesterday they talked about the possibility of it returning, but modded this time, and maybe with a translator so their international viewers can watch and understand it !
If you’re interested :

Antoine’s best of (if you wanna catch up quickly by watching only the best moments) :

FOMA intro
The YouTube channel Mortal Kombat Online has a reproduction list with all the easily accessible FOMA content today, including its intro.
I have recently discovered there is another intro with interesting details, however.
To watch it you must follow the next steps:
1 - Same first step as in the introduction post. Copy the link of the official Mortal Kombat website: https://www.mortalkombat.com
2 - Use Wayback Machine with the previous link, and use a date such a 18th October 2000. You should now be able to see this:
Tumblr media
3 - Click where it says "Friday FIGHT" and you will be able to see the intro.
Now, there is something really interesting about this intro other than its mere existence: it further confirms FOMA's connection in continuity to the Threshold movies, more than Jimmy's presence did.
The has text that says like this:
"FIRST A TOURNAMENT ENFORCED BY THE COUNCIL OF ELDERS GODS. ONCE A GENERATION EVERY REALM SENT THEIR CHAMPIONS." Proceeds to show a 95 movie's logo:
Tumblr media
"THEN THE RULES WERE BROKEN, TRADITIONS SMASHED. WE FACED ANNIHILATION."
And similarly shows a logo of Mortal Kombat Annihilation:
Tumblr media
So, there it is, FOMA is definitely thought as an spiritual sequel of the Threshold movies.
Then it finishes saying "NOW WE MUST PREPARE TO FIGHT. PREPARE TO FIGHT." Then it finally skips to a video which I am not able to watch, probably because I lack "Flash Player Plugin".
Tumblr media
And that would be it for the intro.
But before I go, here's a little extra. If after step 2 you click in the part which says "click here" (next to the MK FOMA logo), you will find a report of various things which were going on at the time, including information about MK5 (future Deadly Alliance), information about the speculated third Threshold movie, and this information about FOMA:
Tumblr media
Which gives us a release date for FOMA, September 13th of the year 2000, which was something I at least couldn't find googling.
It also gives us this render I am sharing now:
Tumblr media
That would be all for today.

so im new to the music scene, ive just barely started tinkering around in lmms. but i wanted to ask, whats your preferred method to mastering your music? i know there isnt The One True Way™, but i just genuinely have no idea where to start on that. (by the way?? brohoof is a BOP and i LOVE IT!! thank you for creating such a jam)
it keeps changing because i keep learning new things. right now i tend to go:
utility gain adjustment (i use VUMT to monitor RMS) > tape distortion (usually Slate VTM) > subtle corrective EQ + hp30Hz lp25kHz + sub mono (FabFilter Pro Q3) > Gullfoss > gentle compression (always differs, i'll list some fav vst's later) > broad tonal EQ (i use Pulsar Massive or Softube Tube Tech usually) > clipper (been using TDR Limiter for that) > i use soothe2 on the "master 1" preset > and then final limiter (usually FabFilter Pro L2 or iZotope Vintage Limiter + Maximizer).
you don't need all this stuff if you just wanna do basic masters though. all you rlly need is an eq and limiter which your DAW should come with.
i go between different compressors for my buss compression stage so here's a list of the ones i choose between:
Ableton Glue Compressor (comes with ableton)
Waves G Series SSL Bus Compressor (it sounds different than the normal ssl glue compressor, because it's emulated wrong. but it sounds good. i also DONT recommend it because you should avoid buying anything from waves bc their drm sucks and you have to pay for upgrades and their shit loads super slow in the DAW even if you have a good computer)
Arturia _comp_diode_609 is sometimes good
FabFilter Pro C2 on gentle settings
Softube/Weiss Compressor/Limiter is one of my favs right now
Plugin Alliance/Brainworks/Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor A usually for rock music
Plugin Alliance/Brainworks/SPL Iron also usually for rock music
Everything I've listed here goes on huge sales (except for Slate stuff), so pls don't buy at full price if you want to get them. Especially Plugin Alliance, because you can get most of their plugins for like $30 a pop with all the sales they do and all the coupons they send out (if you're in their system and have already bought something). Or if you don't want to pay at all just pirate them. However, of the things I've linked, please don't pirate from:
Klanghelm who makes the VUMT, it's just one person who makes plugins and they should get money for it.
Tokyo Dawn Labs who makes TDR Nova, they're a really really small company afaik.
hope this is helpful! if it's not, just slap a gentle eq + limiter on the master track of your song. it'll do until you learn more/have more to work with i promise. all of my music before Homeward had zero things on the master track lol.

Not exactly a headcanon, but what if the last life trading lives mechanic could be used to revive the dead? Yes, it would be risky, but if one player in an alliance was yellow and another was dead, for both of them to become red would give them the advantage of being red lives and also give the [previously] dead player a second chance.
In one of the last life plugin, I learned this is a thing! It's a really cool concept. This is really interesting though op! I love the thought of this actually being used for the actual series; it would've made things so much more interesting !!

SEA'S COMMUNITY COMPENDIUM UPDATE
Second update in a weekend? Wild! I wanted to push this one out before I went back to work and my capacity to update the Compendium would diminish. However, huge thanks to those who submitted new resources to the Google Form — it's appreciated! 🪻
As of 04/14, I have added the following resources (in no particular order) to Sea's Community Compendium for FFXIV Creatives:
LARGE SCALE
CARBUNCLE PLUSHY'S FFX|V FISH TRACKER APP — A website focused on tracking fish windows, bait, guide videos, and fish trains for community events.
PASSIADB — A list of houses for sale in Final Fantasy XIV, how many lottery bids are on each, and where to contribute using the PaissaHouse XIVLauncher plugin.
MISC
@stars-and-clouds thought they could escape me in their tags. "I have more resources!" Oh, I found them. I found them. (affectionate). All of the below are created by them!
ISHGARIAN POWER HEIRARCHY — An exploration of the power dynamics of the Ishgardian theocracy and High Houses.
A QUICK REFERENCE OF THE EORZEAN UMBRAL AND ASTRAL ERAS — A visual guide providing a summary of each Umbral and Astral Era.
