#Predators on Wings

The Sky Amphitheatre is packed full house even before the 12.30pm show commence with many audiences left standing at the back. The Wings of the World featured popular birds showcasing their natural talents, breathtaking plumage and sharp-as-claws IQ. I particularly enjoyed the pair of parrots imitating rooster crowing, hand phone ringing and singing the happy birthday song.

Everyone is excited when the staffs release colourful macaws and pelican to fly around the amphitheatre. But the highlight of the show must be when they let out flocks of Pelican, Flamingo and multi-coloured Macaws onto the stage. At the end of the show, audiences can queue to have their photographs taken with the birds which attracted long queue.

The next show starts at 2.30pm so I have slightly more than an hour to explore but I was a little tired out from all the walking under the sun so I popped into one of the air conditioned area to chill out. The Predators on Wings presentation stars what else but these majestic big birds of prey at the top of the food chain. You get to check out the white-bellied sea eagle which I can sometime spots flying in our Singapore sky or hear their call. Also on show are owls, vultures and this dark brown and white American Bald Eagle.

The 20 minutes show ended quickly and it is time to make the way to the shuttle station to board the tram back to the entrance as our company’s bus is waiting to ferry us back home. The new bird park is not only bigger than the previous one plus they do away with many of the small cages and replaced them with these huge walk in aviaries grouped by geographical locations. The aviaries are styled and landscaped to look like the birds’ natural habitat. Overall, this trip had not only been enjoyable but informative where we learn to coexist with the animals rather than hunt them to extinction.

something about how trades really do affect players. how it's not just us as fans being crazy or reading too much into it. it's real and it's painful. erik johnson has lacked the hutzpah he once had ever since leaving colorado, as if he could bear landeskog's injury but the second he was forced to leave it all came crashing down. sidney crosby has lost much of the joy he once carried and it's because he had the human, golden embodiment of that joy in jake guentzel torn away from him when he needed it most. dylan larkin shed genuine, heartfelt, distraught tears when tyler bertuzzi was traded away. the penguins still welcome marc-andre fleury to pittsburgh every time he plays there because, no matter where he is, that is his home. pk subban could never return to the same player he was after he was taken from price. trevor zegras is seemingly incomplete without drysdale at his side. brandon duhaime is lacking his connor dewar. bowen byram no longer has his alex newhook to lean on and laugh with. travis koneckny and nolan patrick may never even get the chance to play another game with or against one another. and who could imagine kuznetsov as anyone but a capital? do you really think of pavelski in the green of the stars or do you see him proud in teal beside thornton and marleau? did shea weber ever really stop being a nashville predator? and what about beauvillier, horvat, compher, dumolin, burakovsky, kadri, yamamoto, hornqvist, eberle, o'rielly, barrie, jost, gaudreau, karlsson, carter and richards, martin, and so many others? even wayne gretzky himself went to three teams post trade, searching for that spark he had in edmonton after they made him leave. jagr had eight after pittsburgh. you are not crazy for grieving, in some small way, a player you lost. and they aren't crazy for feeling distraught either. these teams are family. and family is everything, even if it gets ripped apart so easily.

sometimes i hate being a woman because i just realized i’ve been living vicariously through so many nhl players this entire time because i will literally never make it to that level of professional hockey even though it’s always been my dream. like no matter how hard i work at it or how bad i want it, i will never be good enough because of my gender. it hurts so much to think about the fact that even 100 years from now there will probably still not be room for women in the nhl. little girls will continue to grow up with unachievable dreams because there is nothing in place for them to achieve them. the PWHL only had their inaugural draft this past season. we are over 100 years behind. currently the most you will probably make in the PWHL is $80,000 a year and the average nhl player gets paid $3.5 million per year. that means the HIGHEST PAID women in the PWHL will be paid 43.75 times less than the AVERAGE nhl player. currently, the highest paid nhl player receives $12.6 million per year. 157.5 times less. i’m not even angry about this. it’s just heartbreaking to sit down and think about it sometimes.
