Insight

Keeping a record of sins (or holding a grudge) is like building a wall between you and another person, and it is nearly impossible to talk openly while the wall is there. God doesn't keep a record of our sins; when he forgives, he forgives completely, tearing down any wall between us and him. Therefore, we fear (revere) God, yet we can talk to him about anything.

Challenge

When you pray, realize that God is holding nothing against you. His lines of communication are completely open.

2 Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

3 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

4 But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

5 I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope.

6 My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.

7 Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

Here then, is my version the Gnostic Rosary for the Dead:

1.  On the cross, make the Sign of the Cross, and pray:

Remember them, O Lord, in Thy kingdom, the faithful souls whom we knew but see no longer, especially (name those for whom you wish to pray). Grant them Thy peace; let the light above the Æons shine upon them; grant them we pray thee, a place of refreshment, a blessed tranquility, and the splendor of Thy Gnosis. O Eternal One, who abidest ever outside the limitations of time, we beseech Thee to shed forth upon Thy faithful children on earth, in heaven, and in the underworld, the bright beams of Thy light and supernal comfort. Amen.

2(a).  If the chaplet has only one bead between the cross and the loop of four decades, pray the Requiem prayer on that bead:

Repose in the eternal Fullness grant unto them (him/her), O Lord, and let the Light above the Æons shine upon them (him/her). May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

℣.  O Lord, I beseech thee

℟.  And let my supplication come unto Thee.

2(b).  If the chaplet has more than one bead after the cross, on the large beads pray the previous Requiem prayer, followed by Acts of Pistus, Elpis, and Agape on the three smaller beads:

Act of Pistus:

O God, I put my faith in Thee, because Thou art Truth itself.

Act of Elpis:

O God, I hope in Thee, because Thou art infinitely good.

Act of Agape:

O God, I love Thee with all mine heart, and above all things, because Thou art infinitely perfect; and I love mine neighbor as myself, for the love of Thee.

3.  For each decade, pray on the large beads:

Blessed art the dead which die in the Lord; they sleep from their labors, and their works live after them.

4.  On each of the smaller beads, pray either one of the following, being consistent throughout the Rosary:

Sweet Heart of Sophia, be my salvation.

6.  After completing the fourth decade, conclude the Rosary with the De Profundis – Psalm 130 in the Hebrew Bible, Psalm 129 in the Septuagint – followed by the Sign of the Cross:

Is it an event or a lifestyle?

Lifestyle Versus Event

Today's society is very event led; life seems quite dull unless we are doing something. Recent politics have emphasised performance related pay. At the same time many modern churches have a stringent programme of activity. The result of this can inadvertently lead to a person’s worth being measured by what they do. It can also make us believe that God is ‘programme-based’ in his love for us. We often associate God’s will as an event, i.e. doing this or that, going here or there, apply for this job, marry that person and so on... ‘God’s will’ can include specific instruction, but more often it is to do with relationship, lifestyle, and nurture.

Relationship

It is God’s will for us to have an intimate and close relationship with him.

Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Jeremiah 30:21 I will bring him near, and he will come close to me, for who is he who will devote himself to be close to me?’ declares the LORD.

Knowing God’s will does not necessarily equate with activity. Sometimes God withholds his plans from us so that we will master the art of waiting. Waiting on God is an essential ingredient to knowing God’s will. Many people want to bypass the waiting and get straight into the doing. For some people, doing nothing is a waste of time, for God our inactivity is a vital element in getting to know him.

Psalm 119:166 I wait for your salvation, O LORD, and I follow your commands.

Psalm 130:5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word, I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Activity without intimacy is of little importance. It’s not uncommon for people to want to know God’s will more than they actually want to know God! Activity is an event; relationship is a process. We cannot effectively hear God’s voice or do God’s will unless we have first learned the art of knowing God. It’s like having the benefits of sexual pleasure without the security of a loving relationship, or like a farmer reaping a great harvest without first labouring over the crop.

Knowing God’s requires intimacy, time, and commitment. There are no shortcuts to doing God’s will. Many Christians fall away because they have become bored, impatient, or distracted. Others spend so much time trying ‘to do’ God’s will that they simply burn themselves out.

Isaiah 40: 29 He gives power to the weak,

And to those who have no might He increases strength.

Even the youths shall faint and be weary,

And the young men shall utterly fall,

But those who wait on the LORD, shall renew their strength.

They shall mount up with wings like eagles,

They shall run and not be weary,

They shall walk and not faint.

Lifestyle

Doing the will of God is much more about being the right person rather than doing the right things. People often focus on life-events rather than the process of a sanctified life. God is much more interested in ‘who we are’ than he is in ‘what we do’. It’s easy to get caught up with Christian activity and neglect the importance of Christian character.

It is God’s clear will that we:

Be financially responsible (Luke 12:21)

Live by faith, not by sight (Rom 1:17)

Live a life of sacrifice and service (Rom 12:1)

Renew our minds (Rom12:2)

Transform the way we live (Rom12:2)

Fellowship with other believers (Rom 15:32)

Give ourselves fully to God (2 Cor 8:5)

Do the best job for our employer (Eph 6:6)

Stand firm, and remain standing (Col 4:12, Eph 6:13)

Mature into strong believers (Col 4:12)

Have a servant attitude (Phil 2:5)

Avoid sexual immorality (1 Thes. 4:3)

Live a pure life (1 Thes. 4:3)

Rejoice in every circumstance (1 Thes 5:18)

Keep our eyes on Jesus – the perfect example (Heb 10:7, 12:2)

Persevere in the work (Heb 10:36)

Do good to all men (1 Peter 2:15)

Understand that God’s will includes suffering (1 Peter 4:19)

Be faithful in prayer (1 John 5:16)

Most of these verses are direct references to the ‘will of God.’ There are, however, simply hundreds of other commandments on how we should live our lives. It is God’s will that we honour our parents, tell the truth; that we should be kind, generous, and gentle. We should be calm, temperate, and full of compassion. The list goes on and on.

It is clear that our attention needs to be on our character and personal development rather than ‘activity or events.’ It is God’s will, first and foremost, that we live a life that is a true reflection of the Lord Jesus Christ. God wants us first of all to be pure, blameless, and holy.

Second Reading 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1 We are being trained to carry the weight of eternal glory.

As we have the same spirit of faith that is mentioned in scripture – I believed, and therefore I spoke – we too believe and therefore we too speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus to life will raise us with Jesus in our turn, and put us by his side and you with us. You see, all this is for your benefit, so that the more grace is multiplied among people, the more thanksgiving there will be, to the glory of God. A simple reminder to forgive someone today.

The first reaction when people offended you is to hold onto the grudge and think that you deserve to remain angry. This is because:

1. Pride. We always think that that person does not need forgiveness for what he did to you. Having a mindset of “what he did, does not equate to forgiveness”. 2. Fear of being offended again. Some people are just afraid that if they forgive someone, they will do it again.

But let us look at what the Bible says:

1. For our pride, remember that God does not keep a record of our sins as He always forgive us even though we, too, don’t deserve it.

Psalms 130:3-4 (NIV), “ If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

And this is because of His unfailing love.

Psalms 130:7 (NIV), “O, Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is unfailing love. His redemption overflows. 

So, if God forgives the undeserving (you), then we should too.

2. For fear of being offended again, remember that forgiveness results in repentance and creates holy fear.

Psalms 130:4 (NLT), “ But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you.”

Notice that if we ask forgiveness from Him, we repent and we develop the thing called holy fear—fear of offending God and grieving the Holy Spirit. So, forgive and let the Lord convict your offender. For sinning against people is sinning against God as He commanded us to love our neighbors. (Fear of the Lord or holy fear delivers us from offense and from offending someone).

But, if your offender is not convicted, then read the number one again.

“Hearing” comes from The Word just like faith does. (Faith comes from hearing, and hearing from the word of God. Romans 10:17) Psalm 119:130 says, “The entrance of Your Word gives light. It gives understanding to the simple.” That’s because the Word of God is not a book - it’s a person. It is His very breath and heart, and it is alive. When it gets in you, it is powerful and it supernaturally changes you. This is why it’s so important to feed on it every day. Try it and see! 💗💗💗

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

Why Should I Fear in Days of Evil?

I just found out a girl i follow is "lds" what is that? There is a latter day saint church in my town but are they mormans? Why do people have to be apart of a denomination? it just seems confusing and divisive, isn't there only one bible?

LDS = Latter Day Saints = Mormons.

Mormonism is a cult. Yes, there is only one Bible - the inspired word of God. This is also why Roman Catholicism is so wrong - we are not to add human teaching/"revelation" to Scripture. LDS breakdown:

The following from this link: The Mormon religion (Mormonism), whose followers are known as Mormons and Latter-day Saints (LDS), was founded less than two hundred years ago by a man named Joseph Smith. He claimed to have received a personal visit from God the Father and Jesus Christ (Articles of Faith, p. 35) who told him that all churches and their creeds were an abomination (1 Nephi 13:28; Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith – History 1:18, 19). Joseph Smith then set out to "restore true Christianity" and claimed his church to be the “only true church on earth” (Mormon Doctrine, p. 670; 1 Nephi 14:10). The problem with Mormonism is that it contradicts, modifies, and expands on the Bible. Christians do not have a reason to believe that the Bible is untrue or inadequate. To truly believe in and trust God means to believe in His Word, and all Scripture is inspired by God, which means it comes from Him (2 Timothy 3:16).

Mormons believe that there are in fact four sources of divinely inspired words, not just one: 1) the Bible “as far as it is translated correctly” (8th Article of Faith). Which verses are considered incorrectly translated is not always made clear. 2) The Book of Mormon, which was “translated” by Smith and published in 1830. Smith claimed it is the “most correct book” on earth and that a person can get closer to God by following its precepts “than by any other book” (History of the Church 4:461). 3) Doctrine and Covenants, containing a collection of modern revelations regarding the “Church of Jesus Christ as it has been restored.” 4) The Pearl of Great Price, which is considered by Mormons to “clarify” doctrines and teachings that were lost from the Bible (Articles of Faith, p. 182–185) and adds its own information about the earth’s creation.

Mormons believe the following about God: He has not always been the Supreme Being of the universe (Mormon Doctrine, p. 321) but attained that status through righteous living and persistent effort (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345). They believe God the Father has a “body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s” (Doctrine and Covenants 130:22). Brigham Young taught that Adam actually was God and the father of Jesus Christ—although this teaching has been abandoned by modern Mormon leaders. 

In contrast, Christians know this about God: there is only one true God (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10; 44:6–8). He always has existed and always will exist (Deuteronomy 33:27; Psalm 90:2; 1 Timothy 1:17). He was not created but is the Creator (Genesis 1; Psalm 24:1; Isaiah 37:16). He is perfect, and no one else is equal to Him (Psalm 86:8; Isaiah 40:25). God the Father is not a man, nor was He ever (Numbers 23:19; 1 Samuel 15:29; Hosea 11:9). He is Spirit (John 4:24), and Spirit is not made of flesh and bone (Luke 24:39).

Mormons believe that there are different levels or kingdoms in the afterlife: the celestial kingdom, the terrestrial kingdom, the telestial kingdom, and outer darkness (Mormon Doctrine, p. 348). Where mankind will end up depends on what they believe and do in this life (2 Nephi 25:23; Articles of Faith, p.79). 

In contrast, the Bible tells us that after death we go to heaven or hell based on whether or not we had faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. To be absent from our bodies means, as believers, we are with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:6–8). Unbelievers are sent to hell or the place of the dead (Luke 16:22–23). When Jesus comes the second time, we will receive resurrected, glorified bodies (1 Corinthians 15:50–54). There will be a new heaven and new earth for believers (Revelation 21:1), and unbelievers will be thrown into an everlasting lake of fire (Revelation 20:11–15). There is no second chance for redemption after death (Hebrews 9:27).

Mormon leaders have taught that Jesus’ incarnation was the result of a physical relationship between God the Father and Mary (Journal of Discourses, vol. 8, p. 115; Mormon Doctrine, p. 547). Mormons believe Jesus is a god, but that any human can also become a god (Doctrine and Covenants 132:20; Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 345–354). Mormonism teaches that salvation can be earned by a combination of faith and good works (LDS Bible Dictionary, p. 697). 

Contrary to this, Christians historically have taught that no one can achieve the status of God—only He is holy (1 Samuel 2:2). We can only be made holy in God’s sight through faith in Him (1 Corinthians 1:2). Jesus is the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16), is the only one ever to have lived a sinless life, and now has the highest place of honor in heaven (Hebrews 7:26). Jesus and God are one in essence, Jesus being the only man who existed before physical birth (John 1:1–8; 8:56). Jesus gave Himself to us as a sacrifice, God raised Him from the dead, and one day everyone will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:6–11). Jesus tells us it is impossible to get to heaven by our own works and that only by faith in Him is it possible (Matthew 19:26). We all deserve eternal punishment for our sins, but God’s infinite love and grace have allowed us a way out. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

Clearly, there is only one way to receive salvation and that is to know God and His Son, Jesus (John 17:3). Receiving salvation is not done by works but by faith (Romans 1:17; 3:28). We can receive this gift no matter who we are or what we have done (Romans 3:22). “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

Although Mormons are usually friendly, loving, and kind people, they are deceived by a false religion that distorts the nature of God, the Person of Jesus Christ, and the means of salvation.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary130:1-4 The only way of relief for a sin-entangled soul, is by applying to God alone. Many things present themselves as diversions, many things offer themselves as remedies, but the soul finds that the Lord alone can heal. And until men are sensible of the guilt of sin, and quit all to come at once to God, it is in vain for them to expect any relief. The Holy Ghost gives to such poor souls a fresh sense of their deep necessity, to stir them up in earnest applications, by the prayer of faith, by crying to God. And as they love their souls, as they are concerned for the glory of the Lord, they are not to be wanting in this duty. Why is it that these matters are so long uncertain with them? Is it not from sloth and despondency that they content themselves with common and customary applications to God? Then let us up and be doing; it must be done, and it is attended with safety.  We are to humble ourselves before God, as guilty in his sight. Let us acknowledge our sinfulness; we cannot justify ourselves, or plead not guilty. It is our unspeakable comfort that there is forgiveness with him, for that is what we need. Jesus Christ is the great Ransom; he is ever an Advocate for us, and through him we hope to obtain forgiveness. There is forgiveness with thee, not that thou mayest be presumed upon, but that thou mayest be feared. The fear of God often is put for the whole worship of God. The only motive and encouragement for sinners is this, that there is forgiveness with the Lord.

Listen to Johann Sebastian Bach's cantata for Trinitatis XXI (today). 

The cantata is based on Martin Luther's hymn "Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir", a paraphrase of Psalm 130. It was in Bach's time the "required hymn" for Trinitatis XXI. Luther wrote about the psalm that it was coming from a 'truly penitent heart that is most deeply moved in its distress. We are all in deep and great misery, but we do not feel our condition. Crying is nothing but a strong and earnest longing for God's grace, which does not arise in a person unless he sees in what depth he is lying.' 

The text of the chorale is unchanged for the first and last movements. An unknown poet paraphrased the other three stanzas of the chorale for movements 2 to 5. In a recitative which Bach set for soprano, the librettist added to Luther's text what Hofmann calls "essentially a free extension of its ideological content". The performance here is by the choir and orchestra of the Bach-Stiftung in the Lutheran Church in Trogen, Switzerland.

3 If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,    Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness,    so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

5 I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,    and in his word I put my hope. 6 I wait for the Lord    more than watchmen wait for the morning,    more than watchmen wait for the morning.

7 Israel, put your hope in the Lord,    for with the Lord is unfailing love    and with him is full redemption. 8 He himself will redeem Israel    from all their sins.
