i think one of my favourite things about psych is the perfect balance between shawn and gus being (realistically) charming and attractive young men with reasonable dating success despite their eccentricities and, also, objectively, the biggest, nerdiest losers in all of santa barbara
i think what makes the psych movies so good despite the fact that this franchise has been running for so long is that they still fundamentally understand their characters. of course shawn doesn't want to have kids. of course gus is still silly and weird. of course carlton keeps a gun in his recovery room. wait post derailed i don't remember much for juliet why did they never make her as weird as the boys and why did the fandom never give her more of a personality
She loves, she loves me not, she loves me, oops he’s dead
Just a few notes for this one.
Why did the guys have to be naked??? Does it seem like more of an abduction if they don’t have clothes??? Cause thats not what i would jump to if i woke up with no memory in a field without clothes…
Juliet ships Shassie
Shawn remembers everywhere he’s been? He narrowed a field down based on the fact that it smelled like lavender and had barbed wire, and he only drove past it twice. What is his mind like?? What does a map look like to him in his brain?? Im imagining something like this ;)
I love that Juliet makes him smile like this! Its so sweet. I always loved how Shules was handled. I’ll go into it more later, but it’s nice to see that they enjoy each others company and it isn’t just lustful attraction or even strictly romantic interest. I think it helps establish that their relationship is rooted in friendship first. I tend to be more ace-like so, for me at least, it feels like a much deeper connection.
The whole Henry thing- i think in this case it had less to do with Shawns view of masculinity and more to do with the fact that it was Henry. I mean, Shawn was about 8 when he told Gus Henry never told him he loved him because “they’re guys.” I’d be kind of pissy too if i found out my dad was fronting the whole time. But also, i wonder why Henry felt the need to project that view of masculinity on his son when he apparently was taking baths the whole time. Was this something passed down from his dad? Did he want Shawn to be a “better” man? Was he shameful of this? And if so why? Is there a certain level of homophobia happening?
Anyways, it seems like seeing Henry’s more “feminine” side gave him permission to accept his own as he’s much more at ease with himself in later seasons.
Me anytime there's an inconsistency in Psych bc the writers forget that they established something and then establish the opposite: Oh, well that's easy! Shawn is lying.
And when the inconsistency has nothing to do with Shawn? Still Shawn.
He's girlbossed too close to the sun. His lies have become too powerful.
