From script to board

The translation from script to screen can be a head scratcher, which is why these take a while. One little sentence can require a load of creativity and an onslaught of panels. I can draw Raz himself in about 7 minutes (shading and all), but posing him and thinking of his expression can take an undetermined amount of time. Also some stuff in the original gets scrapped for the sake of flow. The whole “locked door” bit was thrown to the wayside because Tetanus Tower ended up smaller than originally imagined, and it would have been extraneous work alongside the demonstration of unstoppable acrobatics from our favorite psychic circus boy.

Also I plan a whole page rather than one cell at a time. I even leave those pages mostly in sketch until I finish the whole thing, that way I can go back and make adjustments if there’s some inconsistency

To save time, all of these are left in pencil them edited on both Gimp and Clip Studio. This is a great test run to balance time, quality, and consistency

Grand Head Hollis Forsythe

Yes she finally made it, to her own dismay/effort/sense of worth. Lili doesn’t get away with as much with this lady in Truman’s former position, and Raz is worked harder than ever!

Design: her hair now resembles an octopus. Not sure if she embraced the animal motif if she just doesn’t realize it. Messy, droopy-ass hairstyles were in during y2k. I really don’t think anyone knew what the hell they were doing in that time. The 80s, they had their shit together with hairspray at least, but man… why did 90s peoples hair look so DAMP? 😂

Mindwarp (Psychonauts OC)

Entry 34. 2/16/2000

Mindwarp. Illusionist extraordinaire. Weapon of choice: A helmet powered by the smallest amount of psilirium, which she uses to distort and alter the minds of her enemies as well as manipulate innocent people into zombie-like obedience. Only a handful of Psychonaut agents- including myself, are capable of resisting her mind bending waves. Otherwise, her influence can be undone by music.

Mindwarp is a protege of Sandmind, the most prolific criminal to ever be taken down by the Psychonauts since the downfall of Maligula. Before the reign of Mindwarp, she was known as Betty Nott, a former mentee of Otto Mentallis. She showed promise under his tutelage, but ran away to avoid punishment after she tried to control the mind of her mentor with his own devices. Some few years after that, she joined Sandmind, who trained her further in the arts of Illusion and encouraged her work in mind-controlling devices. 

Her latest work; the mindwarp broadcast. Her helmet alone isn’t as powerful as she’d like it to be (I’m guessing too much psilirium  would be counterintuitive), so she has attempted to create an amplified version of her helmet’s power by hijacking public broadcasting systems and devices. Most recently, Agent Zanotto and I unearthed her temporary lair off the coast of Southern Oregon. We didn't find any psilirium at the scene, but we did find a personal laptop with coded messages to an outsider. Couldn’t be Sandmind, he’s in a coma and being heavily guarded in a max GPC in a remote location only known to the Psychonauts.

Mindwarp’s current status: Thwarted, but still at large for nearly a month.

Is your interpretation of future Raz and future Lili dating?

Short answer: it’s complicated

Strictly by my interpretation of their educational/social/personal trajectory as kids, they have been long standing coworkers who know each other TOO well. The hotsy totsy part of their relationship is over since they are both looking at the beginning of their 30s. Raz has become so wrapped up in his work that he barely stays in his trailer house, which is a depressing dump of filing and storage (He sleeps at work). Lili is trying to oversee her fathers retirement. She already has the possible position of Grand Head looming in her future and dreads it. Her father let slip he would like to see Raz as grand head one day, which really bothers her to no end because Raz is the most complicated man she knows, keeping his many neurotic tendencies medicated with his meticulous by-the-book organization. If he made grand head, she’d likely get stuck as lesser head, which messes with their dynamic since Lili is normally the reckless renegade while Raz runs behind her putting out fires (both figuratively and literally. They are fire and water)

So the long short of that, they are career competitors. They still have affection for each other but their shared occupation and familiarity don’t make for dating without a hitch.

I’ll make this clearer in the comic

I’m disappointed Tumblr can only post 10 pictures at a time. I’m trying get around technical difficulties. I might post 6 pages at a time. But how will I archive all these? I might need to make a whole side blog strictly for the comic so I can archive it on a pinned post?
