⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Egotistical puckboy by Eden Finley and Saxon James
Summary:
EZRA
Partying, dudes, and hockey. What more could a gay NHL player want?
If it weren't for Anton Hayes, my life would be perfect.
Not that he affects my life in any way. At all. That would imply I care what the winger from Philly thinks of me.
Which I don't.
Not even a one-night stand with him can thaw his misplaced animosity toward me.
He says I'm the one with the ego, but he can talk. He rivals me for most egotistical puck boy in the league.
I hate him as much as he hates me. Even if I crave a repeat.
ANTON
When it comes to hockey, I'm all about the game.
I've worked for years to be one of the best in the league, and l've done it without splashing my orientation all over the tabloids.
My hockey image is one I've carefully cultivated, and after one night with Ezra Palaszczuk, I risk it all.
He's cocky, obnoxious, and has an ego bigger than Massachusetts. And okay, maybe he's the sexiest man I've ever known.
We'll never get along. Not when we sleep together. Not even when my possessive streak awakens.
That doesn't stop us from falling into bed together over and over again.
Review:
Enemies to FBW to lovers done so so well.
Both Anton and Ez are such good and complex characters, I went into this book expecting plotless smut - my brain needed a bit of a break and you guys know I love my smut readings - but I was surprised by not only how well rounded these characters were and the clear grow they both go through the book.
Of course the smut was also actually good, so in all it was a well rounded up book that even made me tear up a little! There's other books in this series focusing on different couples and I'm gonna try to get through them before I need to cancel my KU.

Stayed up until 2am (when my alarm goes off at 6) to finish this the same day I started because it was so good!!!
It might take Irresponsible Puckboys spot as favorite book in this series, but it's definitely tied.

In an official relationship for thirty seconds and the sex stops. I knew it would happen, but I don't think it's supposed to happen this fast.

My eyes fall closed, blocking out the chaos around me, which isn’t the greatest idea because then I’m alone with my thoughts, and there isn’t a single one I want to listen to.

Puckboys (book 4): Foolish Puckboy by Eden Finley & Saxon James
ALEKS
After my divorce, I’m ready to have fun, date around, and not get into anything serious. Then I meet Gabe Crosby, superhero firefighter and a disgrace to the Crosby name. He doesn’t even like hockey!
Yet, there’s a draw to him I can’t deny—something I haven’t felt since my teens. But that’s the problem. I have no idea what dating is like, let alone how to do it with another man. He makes me flakey and nervous, and I’ve never been that guy.
Gabe turns me inside out and upside down in the best possible ways. I only recently became single, but if I continue to chase after him, I might not stay that way for long.
GABE
When I meet Aleksander Emerson during an emergency call-out, there are three things that catch my attention: his sexy tattoos, his kind eyes, and his drunken offer to have my babies.
He’s new to Seattle and recently divorced, so I take him under my wing–and under my sheets. I’m showing him what the world of hookups is like, only those hookups turn into sleepovers and dates and public displays of jealousy.
Aleks is in his casual era, and I’m working my way toward settling down and starting a family. What the two of us have is fun, but not a good idea permanently.
Too bad Aleks has already set my life on fire.

My Review: 5/5 Stars
This was probably my favorite book of the Puckboys series. Right from the beginning you are pulled in by the humor. Absolutely hysterical beginning that carried out throughout the story. Gabe and Aleks chemistry is fantastic. When these two first meet, Aleks is hosting many of his hockey friends from the collective and no surprise whatsoever when Ezra takes things a bit too far in their shenanigans. Cue a tiny fire that is gone (though certainly left traces behind. RIP Dex's eyebrows) and two hunky firefighters who come to the rescue and walk in on the chaos. You can imagine exactly how that goes down. Drunk hockey players have a lot to say. Especially when Aleks sees Gabe and blurts out immediately how hot he is and how he wants to have his babies. This story had me in stitches. And Gabe only found this encounter hilarious. This starts the wonderful romance between Aleks and Gabe. Though it doesn't come easy at first. Aleks in newly divorced and realizing that getting back into the dating world isn't easy. And when he is around Gabe, it becomes a lot harder because he feels this strong connection to him. Lucky for him, Gabe is patient and more than willing to be the first man Aleks is with. The two will start a best dates war, have a ton of fun hooking up, and fall for each other with each passing day. Their story was just so sweet and so much fun, I couldn't put the story down. And of course we get to see so many other favorite characters. And the hints of future books and who they will involve. Really loving this series and I can't wait for more!

Queer Reads: Eden Finley & Saxon James
For today’s “Here are some queer books I recommend,” I have an author duo: Eden Finley & Saxon James.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, so both of these series, Puckboys and CU Hockey, are both part of the Sadenverse. The sadenverse is like a zillion interconnected books over 8 (9? 10?) series between the two authors, Eden Finley and Saxon James. Some of the serieses are co written, and some are solo by one or the other author. There’s a flowchart. It’s a whole thing. Each of the series is pretty stand alone, but if you’re the type of reader who likes cameos, this is the world for you. Also, Finley and James write all the time, so there’s always something new to read.
First: CU Hockey. Set in Vermont, at a fictional university, these five books follow a series of hockey players playing Division I hockey (which is like pros in the college world. Very good hockey. Where you want to be to get to play for the NHL). It’s all very college-romance with crushes on people’s brothers and bisexual awakenings left and right. These books are light hearted and funny, with some sweet and tender moments. Book 5, Puck Drills and Quick Thrills, is my favorite, because it follows an assistant coach and a professor, so the protagonists are older. I know he’s happily married and busy parenting his siblings and all that, but Westly Dalton deserves more cameos in the other books. (there’s actually two coming out this summer about his much younger twin brothers, so I have hope that we’ll see some West.)
Following the CU Hockey books are the Puckboy books, which follow various queer players in the fictional NHL as they do lots of stupid things, and try not to get into too much trouble professionally. Or in Oskar’s case, not try at all to stay out of trouble (that’s Shameless Puckboys, fyi). These books are also light-hearted and funny. One of the MCs in book 1, Egotistical Puckboys, is Ezra, and he’s the glue that holds all these books together.
These are a great place to jump in with these authors, and if you like these hockey books, you can google the flowchart (also to be found on their website) and read all 100+ of the books. (I haven’t actually counted, but there’s at least 50 books in this shared world.)

2024 Book #113
Title: Bromantic Puckboy Author: Eden Finley, Saxon James Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports, LGBTQIA+ Series: Puckboys, Book 6
Bilson The idea of moving away from Seattle was a joke at first. I have too many failed relationships here. Too much baggage. So when I find myself signing with Nashville and leaving everything behind, I’m hopeful a new start will cure me of my attachment problems. I fall fast and hard, and I’m quickly realizing it’s not so easy to escape my emotional damage. That follows no matter where I go. When my new teammate, rookie goalie Miles Olsen, attaches himself to my side, the media are excited to exploit our bromance. Little do they know, he’s doing me a favor by keeping me away from making mistakes with women. That’s the deal we made at the beginning of the season, but as time goes on, and we’re both going through a dry spell, Miles suggests a different arrangement. One I’ve never contemplated. One I shouldn’t consider. One I can’t stop thinking about. Miles My first day as starting goalie for Tennessee is made mildly more terrifying by coming face to face with NHL veteran Cody Bilson. Hero worship? Me? Never! He reminds me of my old frat buddies; loyal, kind, easy to trade banter with. But my dude is lost and trying to find himself again--without getting married this time. I want to help him, and while my suggestion might not be conventional, it sure as hell is effective. The only way to make sure he doesn't marry a woman again? Blow off steam with a man instead. We're both straight, we're both single, and we're both down for a good time. After all, what are teammates for?
Rating: 4.25 ⭐

He might get one with his brother best friend or might…

This Was A Really Fun Read
Compared to the other books in the Puckboys series, Foolish Puckboy is the most different one. Every other Puckboy couple consist of two people related to ice hockey while this consists of one ice hockey player and one fireman. I don't know about you but having something so different in the middle of a series is like a breath of fresh air, perhaps why I had such a good time with this book.
Seriously though, Foolish Puckboy started out with a bang, it was absolutely hilarious. The writing was beyond entertaining, I laughed so much. And if not for that introduction, I probably would not have liked Gabe and Sanden that fast as well. However, the pacing for this book was a little slower than the others. This is not a complain but because of the slower pacing, it made the book lack something. I did not realise what it was lacking until I neared the end. You have to know first, I am someone who hates redundant drama that does not add anything to the story's plot, character development or world building. Unfortunately, with the plot Foolish Puckboy has, this could have gotten away with a bigger drama or more dramas.
Let me explain why I would have let it slide if the authors included a bigger or more dramas with Aleks and Gabe's relationship. These two have pretty solid communication but they usually only start communicating about their problems after a small stumble which by no means meant miscommunication. With how their communication was written, Foolish Puckboy really could have been forgiven for at least one huge drama. And because Aleks and Gabe are who they are, a third-act breakup will never happen, technically speaking, that third-act separation scene already happened way before they became a thing.
That being said, I still really liked this book even though the lack of drama kind of made this book a little mundane, because I freaking love Aleks and Gabe. I already liked Aleks back in Shameless Puckboy and Gabe, well. I like firemen.
Rating: ★★★★☆

Book Review: Foolish Puckboy
~ Warning! Minor Spoilers! Book Review: Foolish Puckboy (Puckboys #4) by – Eden Finley & Saxon James [2023] ~ REVIEW I liked the first book in this series but was disappointed by the second and third stories, so I was quite worried about this fourth installment. I had previously enjoyed other books by Eden Finley, so I wondered if this series and my adoration for the author had fizzled out.…

My Review: 4/5 Stars
An enemies to lovers story that has all the best aspects of that trope. We got the undeniable chemistry and the witty banter that keeps you laughing. Ezra and Anton are such a great pairing and highly entertaining. Ezra is nonstop and doesn't know how to stop talking. He's flirty and loquacious and isn't afraid to be himself. Oh, and has the biggest ego of any hockey player you meet. Anton can be more on the quiet side. However, Ezra riles him up to the point where quiet takes a backseat. He can keep up with Ezra without even trying and brings Ezra ego back down to earth while also dishing out his own. Couldn't get enough of these two. What starts out as a one night stand turns into more when Anton is traded to Ezra's team. The two of them form a relationship though neither will admit that the arrangement they have is exactly that. As they juggle to keep their relationship secret since Anton is out but not to the point where he has it broadcasted to the world in fear that it will overshadow his hockey, they also have to work hard on and off the ice to  get that championship win. Really fun story as they two juggle their feelings and get that W. I also realized that characters we met showed up in a series released before this, so I gotta back try after I finish up this series. Especially when I saw who's book is next. Lots of great characters and I'm looking forward to exploring this world!
