OTD in Music History: Legendary conductor Arturo Toscanini (1867 - 1957) dies in New York. Toscanini was one of the most acclaimed and influential "classical" musicians of the late 19th and early 20th century -- revered for his intensity, for his perfectionism, for his incredible ear for orchestral detail and sonority, and for his eidetic memory. At various points in his career, Toscanini served as the Director of La Scala in Milan, the New York Philharmonic, and the NBC Symphony Orchestra. It was this final position, however, that truly made him a household name (especially in the United States) through his radio and television broadcasts and many recordings of the operatic and symphonic repertoire. During his own lifetime, Toscanini enjoyed a degree of public and critical adulation that is virtually unparalleled in the history of music: He was featured no less than *three* times on the cover of "Time" magazine (in 1926, 1934, and 1948), and for most of his career he enjoyed universally glowing reviews and played to consistently packed houses. History always moves in cycles, however, and thus in recent decades it should come as no surprise that Toscanini has come in for growing criticism on a number of fronts -- most notably, for his alleged antipathy toward most 20th-century music (it is certainly truly that he rarely programmed "modern" works), for what some perceive as a certain rigidity in his beat and a regrettable tendency towards fast tempos, and (on a more personal level) for his well-known temper -- a temper which he was more than happy to unleash on players who displeased him... Nevertheless, notwithstanding all of the above, Toscanini's place in the pantheon of all-time-great conductors remains just as secure in 2023 as it was back in 1923. The great conductor Arturo Toscanini passed away 66 years ago today in New York, where he has conducted over 550 performances since 1908. A rarity which he brought to The Metropolitan Opera was the opera "Germania" by Alberto Franchetti. This work was premiered at La Scala in Milan in 1902 and he conducted it for the US premiere in 1908, also with Enrico Caruso in a main role.

“La caduta, una storia” è il quarto capitolo di Firenze Segna. Non è un concerto, non è uno show. È un racconto collettivo sulla caduta in stile La Chute: la musica naturalmente, ma anche il teatro, la danza, e soprattutto: la voce, la parola.

Moltissimi gli ospiti di questa edizione. Roberta WJM Andreucci, manipolatrice di suoni con Jealousy Party, speaker radiofonica, cofondatrice dell'etichetta discografica Burp, una delle indiscusse protagoniste dell’underground fiorentino da sempre, una voce unica, sarà la voce narrante - o radiofonica - del racconto. Sul palco i musicisti de La Chute Dischi, tra cui l’autore dell’ultima e quarta uscita, Alfredo Vestrini, poeta mugellano, che in seguito alla sua fruttuosa collaborazione con Irene Grandi per cui ha scritto diversi testi per l’album “Alle porte del sogno” (2011), completa la sua metamorfosi in cantautore, e inizia a pubblicare le sue poesie in musica. “Meccanismi” è uscito a giugno 2023.

Presente anche una delle prossime uscite dell’etichetta, Matilde Benvenuti, in arte BLU, batterista, dj e producer fiorentina, che dopo varie collaborazioni come batterista (tra gli ultimi Gianni Maroccolo, Edda, Giorgio Canali, Piero Pelù) abbraccia l’arte della produzione di musica elettronica e del djing.

E tre ospiti speciali, anche loro parte del racconto collettivo: Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi angela baraldi Flavio Giurato

Sul palco anche gli storici partecipanti alla serata: Massimiliano Larocca, di cui è in uscita il prossimo 20 ottobre il suo sesto disco “Daimon”, che lo vedrà di nuovo in sodalizio artistico con Hugo Race, già produttore del suo precedente “Exit/Enfer”. Con lui sul palco Federica Ottombrino, musicista napoletana che ha collaborato a “Daimon”, di cui potremo ascoltare un’anteprima.

Ivo Minuti Alice Chiari - Mago Santo duo fiorentino al suo terzo disco, “Terzo”, appunto, prima uscita de La Chute Dischi. Valentina Di Gaetano, musicista da sempre nel circuito de La Chute che sta lavorando al suo primo disco. La mia S'ignora, band fiorentina dedita al “dispressionismo per partitura e voce”, di Duccio Tebaldi alla voce e parole, Lorenzo Carovani alla chitarra sonica, Agnese Focardi all’arpa e Giada Moretti al sax. Del 2023 l’uscita per La Chute Dischi dell’album “Un incontenibile affiorare di memoria”.

Ad accompagnare l’intera serata musicale, Strubus, altro progetto di Lorenzo Carovani con Alessandro Berti alla tastiera, Mattia Galeotti alla batteria, e Pietro Zini al basso, per questa sera in versione house band.

Ivan Periccioli, attore comico noto in Toscana soprattutto per i suoi famosi “personaggi” di Vida Loca, programma andato in onda per circa 10 anni su Rete37, che ci parla della caduta, ovvero di quello che più teme un comico: la buccia di banana. Carolina Amoretti, danzatrice e performer.
