Gas-based power plants to be activated to meet summer electricity demand

To address the escalating electricity demand during the summer season, the Government of India has announced plans to activate gas-based power plants. In a bid to maximize power generation from these stations, the government has issued directives to all gas-based generating stations under Section 11 of the Electricity Act, 2003. This section empowers the government to specify that a generating company must operate and maintain a generating station as per government directions in extraordinary circumstances. Currently, a significant portion of gas-based generating stations remains underutilised, mainly due to commercial considerations. The order issued under Section 11, similar to the approach taken for imported-coal-based power plants, aims to enhance the availability of power from gas-based generating stations during the upcoming high-demand period. This order is effective for the generation and supply of power from May 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024. GRID-INDIA to coordinate gas-based power supply Under this arrangement, GRID-INDIA will notify gas-based generating stations in advance of the number of days for which gas-based power is required. Gas-based generating stations that hold Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Distribution Licensees are required to offer their power to PPA holders first. Any unutilized power will then be offered in the power market. Gas-based generating stations without PPAs must offer their generation in the power market. To facilitate the implementation of this directive, a high-level committee chaired by the Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority has been formed. This decision to activate gas-based generating stations is part of a broader strategy by the Government of India to ensure sufficient power availability during the summer season. Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri R. K. Singh has convened several meetings to underscore the importance of ensuring an adequate power supply to meet the demand during the hot weather. In addition to the activation of gas-based generating stations, the government has implemented several other measures to address the summer demand: - Planned maintenance of power plants will be rescheduled to the monsoon season. - New capacity additions will be expedited. - Partial outages of thermal power plants will be minimised. - Surplus power from captive generating stations will be utilised. - Section 11 Directions have been issued for imported-coal-based power plants to ensure full capacity availability for generation. - Hydro power generation will be shifted to peak hours. - Advanced planning by all stakeholders will ensure coal availability. India's electricity demand has been steadily increasing, driven by economic growth, particularly during hot-weather and high-demand periods. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted above-normal maximum temperatures across most parts of the country for the 2024 hot weather season. Applications are invited for following purely project-based temporary positions under various projects at Himachal Regional Center of the Institute.

S.No: 1

Position: Senior Project Fellow (SPF 02)

Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 23,000 + 8% HRA per month as per institute norms

Age limit: 32 years

Essential Qualification: First class Master��s degree in Botany, Zoology, biotechnology, forestry, Environmental Science, agricultural sciences and other fields of basic science from a recognized university having a minimum of two years’ experience.

Desired: Preference will be given to the candidate having work experience of R&D based projects with good report writing and computer skills.

Nature of duties/Project: HPSBB funded project titled ‘Preparation of People Biodiversity Register of Kullu district with all representative blocks’

Nature of duties/Project: HPSBB funded project titled ‘Preparation of People Biodiversity Register of Kullu district with all representative blocks’

Position: Junior Research Fellow/Junior Project Fellow (JRF/JPF 01)

Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 31,000 + HRA per month as per institute norms (for NET qualified) and Rs. 20,000 + HRA per month as per institute norms (NonNET)

Age limit: 28 years

Essential Qualification: First class M. Sc in Botany, Biotechnology, Forestry, Environmental Science, Horticulture, agriculture and other fields of basic science from a recognized university

Desired: Preference will be given to the candidate having work experience in high altitude areas of the state having experience in the R&D based projects.

Nature of duties/Project: NMHS Funded Project titled ‘Ex-situ conservation and development of gene bank of commercially important threatened medicinal plants in the high-altitude areas, Himachal Pradesh’

Position: Junior Project Fellow (JPF 01)

Monthly Emoluments: Rs. 16,000 per month

Age limit: 28 years

Essential Qualification: First class Master Degree in Botany, Forestry, Environmental science/Bioscience/Biotechnology or equivalent from a recognized university.

Desired: Preference will be given to the candidate having experience in plant ecology, taxonomy, RSGIS, niche modeling, tissue culture, data analysis, report writing, presentation skills and capable of carrying out field research in higher altitude regions.

Nature of duties/Project: NMHS Funded Project ‘Returning taxus to the forests and the people: a study of Shimla and Kullu district of Indian Himalayan Region’

PM launches mega scheme to improve power distribution

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched Power Ministry’s flagship “Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme” with an aim to improve the operational efficiencies, besides ensuring financial sustainability of power distribution companies. With plans to provide 25 crore Smart Prepaid meters to the consumers all over the country, the scheme has an outlay of Rs.3,03,758 crore to be spent over the next five years beginning FY 21-22 to FY 25-26. Under this scheme the DISCOMs will be provided financial assistance for the modernisation as well as strengthening of distribution infrastructure. The scheme aims at improvement of the reliability and quality of power supply to the end consumers. A national portal for rooftop solar was also launched by the PM. The portal will enable tracking of the entire process of installation of rooftop solar plants online. The process will start from registering the applications to the release of subsidy in the bank account of the residential consumers—after the installation and the plant’s inspection. The scheme is expected to emerge as a major step towards unleashing the potential of solar rooftop in the country. It is estimated that the capacity of national solar rooftop program will be 4000 MW and it will contribute towards the country’s target to produce 500 GW energy using non-fossil fuels in accordance with the commitment made at COP-26 Summit. जख्मी माले कार्यकर्ताओ से मिले दीपांकर भट्टाचार्य, भाजपा पर जम कर बरसे दिपांकर। India Express.... भोजपुर जिले के गजराजगंज ओपी के नवादा बेन में आपसी बिबाद को लेकर इंटर के छात्र को चाकू से हमला कर गंभीर रूप से जख्मी कर दिया ।बिदित हो कि थाना क्षेत्र के नावदा बेन में शुक्रवार की शाम इंटर के छात्र को चाकू मार दिया गया। जख्मी छात्र को इलाज के लिए सदर अस्पताल लाया गया। घटना को लेकर अफरा-तफरी का आलम रहा। वहीं दो पक्षों में तनाव व्याप्त है। जानकारी के अनुसार जख्मी नवादा बेन गांव निवासी विशाल कुमार इंटर का छात्र है। बताया जाता है उसका गांव में ही किसी व्यक्ति के साथ विवाद चल रहा था। इसी दरम्यान उसके पेट में गाँव के ही लोगो ने चाकू मार दिया। घटना के बाद परिजनों ने आनन फानन में लाया गया। जहा जख्मी का इलाज किया जा रहा है। घटना की सूचना मिलते ही गजराजगंज ओपी प्रभारी अनिल दूबे घटनास्थल पर पहुंचकर मामले की छानबीन में जुट गए हैं।समाचार लिखे जाने तक मामला दर्ज होने की पुष्टि नही हुई है। #Mahagathbandhan #Araloksabhachunaw #Tejaswiyadav #Rajuyadav #RKSINGH
