Hi everyone! This is my first post! My name is Quinn (not my real name but what I will be going by on here and what I will like to be referred to as) and I’m 29 years old. I’m a first year student at Aberystwyth University studying veterinary biosciences. I made this blog to track my studies and my notes, as well as motivate both myself and others! I would love to make friends on here over the 4 years of my studies here, aswell as the many years more that I will be studying to become a vet! I hope you enjoy and don’t be scared to send a message!

There's a group chat for biosciences at my uni and twice at this point I've asked for pictures of dissection because my friend really wants to see them. She does fine art, doesn't even do gruesome or unpleasant stuff, she just finds the way bodies fit together really interesting???
Anyway that's why someone sent me a picture of a porpoise fetus and a porpoise brain today.

i am also on the skeptical side, but let’s take note of what’s going on and the discussions around this
(source: associated press | 31 jan 2023)
Colossal Biosciences first announced its ambitious plan to revive the woolly mammoth two years ago, and on Tuesday said it wanted to bring back the dodo bird, too.
“The dodo is a symbol of man-made extinction,” said Ben Lamm, a serial entrepreneur and co-founder and CEO of Colossal. The company has formed a division to focus on bird-related genetic technologies.
The last dodo, a flightless bird about the size of a turkey, was killed in 1681 on the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius.
...
Other scientists wonder if it’s even advisable to try, and question whether “de-extinction” diverts attention and money away from efforts to save species still on Earth.
“There’s a real hazard in saying that if we destroy nature, we can just put it back together again — because we can’t,” said Duke University ecologist Stuart Pimm, who has no connection to Colossal.
“And where on Earth would you put a woolly mammoth, other than in a cage?” asked Pimm, who noted that the ecosystems where mammoths lived disappeared long ago.
Because animals are a product of both their genetics and their environment.
...
It helps if they can learn from other wild animals of their kind — an advantage that potential dodos and mammoths won’t have, said Boris Worm, a biologist at the University of Dalhousie in Halifax, Nova Scotia, who has no connection to Colossal.
“Preventing species from going extinct in the first place should be our priority, and in most cases, it’s a lot cheaper,” said Worm.

Tumblr media
Tumblr media
(इंडिया साइंस वायर) Read the full article

The human body's inability to break down sucralose, an artificial sweetener found in many zero-calorie food and drink products, is well established by scientific research. The compound is so stable that it escapes wastewater treatment processing and is in drinking water and aquatic environments. "We can't break down sucralose, and a lot of microorganisms can't break it down, either, because it's a really tough molecule that doesn't degrade easily. So there are a lot of questions about how it is affecting the environment and whether it's something that could impact our microbial communities," said Tracey Schafer, an assistant research scientist for the University of Florida's Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience and the soil, water and ecosystem sciences department, part of UF's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.

🦋🐢🐬🐙🍄🍃💐 Tuesday 💐🍃🍄🐙🐬🐢🦋
Hi everyone! Sorry for being MIA for so long! I caught the good old winter flu and have been knocked out for quite a while. However, I’m not back to feeling somewhat normal again so I’m going back to posting everyday! I’m copying up some notes tonight, as well as practicing my KPop dances for arts fest, a show where loads of dance groups come from the uni come together and perform.
I’ll create another post later on on my progress with my notes, as well as a focus forest!
Have a great evening!
Quinn over and out!

Update! I've finished the lineart for the comic I'm using to mark the introduction of my DunMeshi BioSciences AU, just colouring a few panels and we're all set. The askblog is for the most part completed (I'll add the playlist later on), which I'll reveal very very soon on my blog! For now, here are some of my favourite little closeups as a sneak-peek. Truly a win for the LGBT+ community <3

Something about a post-Hokage Kakashi moving out of Konoha - not too far away, just closer to some farms that steadily supply the village - really strikes my interest. A post-Hokage Kakashi who doesn't know how to act in his retirement. A Kakashi that's too used to the blade to relax fully. A Kakashi that moves close to Reader's farm and insists on helping out.
Something about Kakashi chasing chickens makes me smile, or learning how to milk a cow. Something about Kakashi being reprimanded by the Reader for using jutsu so close to their farm warms my heart. Him helping with repairs and heavy lifting even though Reader insists they can do it themself.
The thought of the two growing closer together and bonding and smiling and supporting each other if nice. Kakashi learns how to live at peace with himself and Reader learns how to be content with others around. Both of them no longer lonely.
Ahhh it's just such a wholesome image.

Vitiligo vs Fever Coat vs Smoke Color
Some may confuse these three things because of their similar appearances.
Tumblr media
This is vitiligo ↑↑↑
They are not born with this condition (if they are, it may be a case of chimerism), it shows up as they age. The white/unpigmented spots will grow and develop all over. Don't worry, it isn't harmful. It's just like human vitiligo!
Tumblr media
This is fever coat ↑↑↑
It's a rare condition in which the mama cat undergoes severe stress or an illness that causes a spike in body temperature during pregnancy. Prior to birth, the pigmentation of a kitten's coat is very sensitive to heat. When the kittens are born, you will notice white/frosted tips of fur along the body. Fortunately, this has no negative effect on them. Their original coat color is still written in their DNA and may take from 4 months up to a year to present itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a smoke pattern ↑↑↑
These cats have black fur with white roots. They are also born this way and keep this marvelous color. For longhair smokes, their mane and any other section where the fur is longer will look white.
