Yes, "Owner of a Lonely Heart"
After watching the wrenching third episode of Dead Boy Detectives ("The Case of the Devlin House"), this song is stuck—in a loop, if you will—in my head.
This performance, from the band's induction into the R&RHoF in 2017, is quite good, with Jon Anderson having lost none of his high end at 73, and Steve Howe doing an excellent job on bass, filling in for Chris Squire, who had gone to rock'n'roll heaven a few years earlier.

Janet Jackson inducts Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis into the Rock Hall by recreating the iconic look from the album that catapulted her (and them) there.
Janet Jackson inducts Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis into the Rock Hall by recreating the iconic look from the album that catapulted her (and them) there. #JanetJackson #JimmyJam #TerryLewis #RRHOF #Control @JanetJackson
(November 11, 2022).  Two things happened in the winter of 1986 that changed the music world forever.  First, on January 23, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which had been established only a few years earlier, got started by inducting its first class…an undeniable cohort of ten of modern music’s icons whose names had been synonymous with rock and roll since its inception and who, with their…

Duran Duran, one of the iconic rock bands of the 20th century had such impact, so powerful through their countless #1s and multi-platinum sold albums, fans of the 21st century wouldn't dare refuse this docu-concert film, "A Hollywood High". It's a celebration of 40 years in the game, a new album titled FUTURE PAST, and with the backdrop being the Hollywood Hills and the landmark Capitol (Records) Tower building, relive the past in the future on Nov. 19, for their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honor on HBO/HBO Max!

Wait hehe.
Modern au where Eddie has a decent following in social media and is known as both a guy who does ttrpg with a few friends and does cool metal covers of different song genres. He's weird, sure, and will also post two minute video monologues but it's done while camera is mildly unfocused on a worm on the wet pavement, or he'll rant about prog rock and then two minutes later go "I'm sorry my statements on Keith Emmerson were inappropriate and I guess" *pauses and looks off camera* "he totally deserves to be in the rock and roll Hall of Fame" like it's a hostage video and someone made him say it because he looks like he's having a terrible time about it.
Anyways he's an internet funny little man and one day he posts a tiktok or what have you labeled "tfw ur bf is sitting in his platonic soulmate's lap instead of yours" and it's just of Steve sitting sideways across Robin's lap on someone's couch chatting and smiling with her before turning to Eddie and giving a little finger wave.
This is of course met with internet hullabaloo because is that Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley? Famous indie music duo who are also starring in a popular new tv series? Social media weirdos? Beloved and popular and bizarre and memeable? Queer icons RobinandSteve? Was Eddie serious? He was dating thee Steve Harrington?
An hour later Robin tags Eddie in a post that is a video obviously taken from slightly under Steve as the angles are a bit weird, and Eddie can be heard saying "oh my god how could I have forgotten you're, like, really famous how'd I do that Steve! Babe, Stop laughing! It was supposed to be a silly relatable post! You're no better Buckley-hey why are you filming this? My mortification isn't funny!!" While the video is just shaking of Steve curling in on himself and Robin trying to focus on Eddie and you can hear them both cackling over Eddie talking. She captions it "tfw ur QPP's bf forgets you two are famous and that most ppl don't know they're dating. Or didn't, at least"

Before the Billboard Hotties Tourney finale commences (and yes, it is still temporarily postponed, unfortunately) I wanted to share a few statistics on the contestants that I thought were interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First, we have the countries of origin of our contestants. Of the 256 that were in the tourney, over half of them were American (additionally, 2/3 of the quarterfinalists, 3/4 of the semifinalists, and both of the finalists are from the United States.) But we also had representation from about a dozen other countries and five different continents! Maybe if there's a sequel tourney next year, we'll see more countries represented.
One of the biggest differences between this tournament and the one at our inspiration (hotvintagepoll) is...just how many people are still alive. While only a handful of the men from the vintage actor tournament are still alive, just over half of our competitors here are with us to this day, or at least the day the polls started--some are even close to centenarian status. I guess that ten-year difference in year constraints makes all the difference!
Considering that many of the contestants fall into the genre of rock or pop in some form, I thought it would be interesting to look at how many of them are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While it's not the be-all and end-all of music, it's one of the most iconic musical halls of fame, and we certainly have our share of icons here. Of the 256 individuals in the tournament, 157 are in the RRHOF either as solo artists or as part of their band, including brand-new inductees Lou Gramm of Foreigner and Peter Frampton. As for the 99 contestants who aren't in the club (yet,) don't worry; it doesn't mean you're inarticulate. (Bye-bye, Jann Wenner)
As for when the contestants were born, there was a clear and overwhelming majority. 157 of the 256 contestants were born in the 1940s, most likely beginning their musical careers in the 60s and 70s. Those who were 1950s-born made up the second-biggest group with just 34. There was, to my delight, still a handful of contestants who were born in the 30s or earlier, the oldest contestant being Edgard Varèse (born in 1883!) Each image next to the decade depicts the longest-surviving person from the respective age group, and as you can probably tell, the young(?) guys really killed the competition.
Stand by, everyone, for the Billboard Consolation Prizes and the finals of the Billboard Hotties Tourney!

Bit of discourse in the Styx fandom right now, I guess:
UCR released an article on Tommy and JYs thoughts on Dennis and the RRHoF, then DDY had to go on one of his old man rants about it. (BUT - his Post was deleted after UCR published an article on his "rebuttal", but the article gives you enough to roll your eyes at DDY)
And of course, the guys that kiss the feet of simp for DDY think that Tommy and JY are the delusional ones. DDY was the sole reason the band had turmoil in the first place! I guess when you're such a simp for someone, they can do no wrong, even with sufficient evidence to that affect. [insert Picard facepalm here]
I try to stay back and keep my mouth shut on this stuff, but maaaaan is it tough.
(Which is why I love having tumblr - I can rant on the Facebook discourse stuff without feeling as "seen" lol)

The 2024 Class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been announced… and the verdict is?
Guess who’s getting into the Rock Hall of Fame this year (and yes they deserve it)!
(April 22, 2024).  Cher, one of the most iconic performers in pop music history, is being inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame — finally — after 60 years of recording hit songs, including five No. 1s, and after more than 30 years of eligibility.  Foreigner, the once six-man band that started as half-British/half-American in 1976, and whose first five albums were all certified multi-platinum and…
