Also, time for my bi-monthly reminder that Kirby did not beat Marx into submission, Marx's very crown-like wings went haywire after taking enough of a beating (just like the Master Crown) and it was that which sent him crashing into Galactic Nova to his doom.

I suppose the really frightening thing is that, unlike with Magolor and the Master Crown, Marx still possesses (possessed by) the wings to this day, meaning if they really are akin to the Crown, he's still under its(?) sway. Given the fact that his eyes bug out if you leave him standing in Star Allies long enough... and yeah...

It's time for that once-in-a-blue-moon stroke of massive brainrot inspiration that causes me to do a whole composition out of nowhere. I got stuck on this piece for like a month purely because I didn't know what to do about the coloring and highlighting, but I got a recent burst of motivation and finally finished it! I do not anticipate making anything this big and crazy for a loooong while, so I'll be enjoying my artist rest now LOL.

Also, wow!!! That RTDL DX Magolor Epilogue!!! It's probably my new favorite extra mode in the series. I loved the upgrade system, combo system, and the feel of the combat while playing it. Also all the Magolor dialogue!! He's such a sopping wet menace gRAHH and that finale had my attention in a vice grip like WOAHH. I already loved him a lot before, but RTDL DX made me love him even more somehow <3.

Here's a really disturbing thought for everyone!

I've seen it speculated around the JP fandom that the True Arena Magolor Soul fight exists to be a sort of semi-canonical "bad end" AU for Magolor. That it shows us what would happen if the crown's possession had gone too far. If Magolor had been fully devoured by it. If he were truly beyond rescue by any means.

Oh, and what makes it worse?

This is the one fight where Magolor specifically asks Kirby to break the crown on his head and free him. He audibly cries out Kirby’s name during the fight, including murmuring a noise that sounds very much like “...tasukete...” in JP aka “...help...me...” And yet?

You Don't Succeed. 

The crown remains bonded to this Magolor even when he's defeated.

True Arena Magolor asks only to be freed and Kirby fails to free him.

The one version of Magolor you canonically cannot save is the only version who breaks down and pleads for your help over the course of the fight... Even the first pause screen asks you to free him from this nightmare. To save him and become true friends...

But you’re unable to...

Also, I hadn't realized this until Cauli-flawa pointed it out, but the crown’s gem blinks red and blue. Of course, the temptation to compare those colors to a certain jester is there - and I'll do that later, fufufu - but another, perhaps simpler interpretation is that the blue flashes are moments when our Magolor is fighting back from within the cage the crown made of his body. He's trying, struggling, doing everything possible... he even manages to play the role of "Helper Magolor" one last time by giving you that apple... 

But the moment his eyes shut... It’s too late.  He's forever out of your reach...

I like you calling him AbsMag (I assume cus Absolute Radiance) cus I often call the Pantheon of Hallownest "the arena" cus its the same concept and equally as painful lol

i wholeheartedly believe that That Thing should NOT be just called "Magolor Soul" because that is DECEPTIVE AS HELL, which is somewhat fitting, because Magolor, but that is NOT magolor anymore, that is a demon, a serpent designed to lure you in with the promise of a fight you can do hitless and then utterly fucks you up with laser bullshit and Pain. that thing needs the Hollow Knight Naming Convention of "this is functionally the same boss, but it's Much Harder, so we gave it a more foreboding name." THK to PV, Radi to AbsRad, TMG to NKG, Failed Champion, Lost Kin, Soul Tyrant, what have you.

That boss ain't right! That ain't my good friend Magolor Soul, whom I always start the fight by saying "the word hamburger is banned from this session," to which my brother nods sagely. That is NOT the fight that I always joke about having memorized due to sheer hyperfixation. That is a twist. Of a knife in my back.

Basically it’s a new extra mode called Magolor Epilogue where Mags is playable. It looks like it’s in AD and you’re fighting to get his powers back. Magolor is in these tattered monochrome robes. I’m kind of insane abt it bc it basically implies that after you defeat him when Kirby is home having cake Magolor is fist fighting his way out of hell
