Thanks to you I'm getting a sudden influx of red dwarf on my dash. A show that ended before I was born.
Thank you, I love it so much

So you're telling me, that the episode 'Blue' in which Lister dreams of passionately kissing Rimmer and spends the episode pining for him,
the episode that was initially supposed to be called "Heartache"
the episode that came out on FUCKING VALENTINES DAY
Wasn't supposed to be interpreted in a romantic sense??

Ace Thought
Ace is so dramatically different to our Rimmer in some obvious ways that their similarities get less attention. To me, the thing which really drives home that they ARE the same person is their stubbornness. OK, pigheadedness to the point of insanity.
Our Rimmer spends decades "studying" a subject which the "Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers" novel specifically tells us he has zero interest in or ability for, and fails an ever-increasing number of times. Does he decide to instead pick a different subject like say cookery (like Lister) which he might actually pass? Does he smeg.
Ace is equally determined not to let anything stand in the way of a given objective, hence his incredulity that our Rimmer hasn't already set his mind to repairing Starbug's engine in "Dimension Jump".
Well, they're the same person, aren't they? If he, Ace, can repair it with a broken arm and hanging upside down in a howling storm (albeit with Lister's help) and THEN perform surgery to save Cat's leg and THEN teach Kryten to play the piano BEFORE stitching up his own broken arm without anaesthetic, why is our Rimmer letting a little thing like being dead get in his way?
In the "Backwards" novel our Rimmer points out that he's a soft-light hologram who can't touch anything but even then Ace counters that he actually can via his light bee - with difficulty, but it's possible.
Honestly, it's both sad and hilarious how their very different outlooks on life obscures the fact that they are still very much the same person, and doomed to never like or understand each other.
