Some time ago, I made an adopt I had into this bulky monkey man named Redland. vwv He's a fun character of mine who is now Rhodri's surrogate dad in whatever AU i have for them. In this particular AU, they dwell in space as humans no longer have Earth to live on.

Redland ends up taking care of Rhodri over time and in this set, he tries to teach a very squishy and tiny human how to punch a solid ass surface that most definitely broke bones. Learning that humans are not made of metal is a lesson he and Rhodri learned the hard way, luckily, his longtime 'friend' Doc is able to scold him on what NOT to do with your own personal teen human.

There was some interest (more than zero) in pictures of the very latest train from the biggest train trade show Innotrans, so I’m going to start with this one: The American.

Well, really, it is made in Switzerland; companies don’t normally ship trains over from the US just for this exhibition, and US agencies aren’t allowed to buy foreign trains with federal money unless they’re really special. But that implies that if a US train is here, it has to be a special one.

In this case, it’s a Stadler FLIRT Hydrogen (or H2 with a subscript 2 which I think is impossible on mobile). It will run on „Arrow“, a short regional line and extension of the Metrolink network in LA. That network has already ordered some very similar trains with diesel engines, but this one will instead have hydrogen fuel cells (which in turn charge batteries, contained in the windowless empty section).

Hydrogen trains are a big Hm… from me. Electrification is basically always better. In this case, electrification was impossible because that would have put the project's cost over the federal grant maximum, which is definitely a reason to go with Hydrogen, but I’m not sure if it’s a good one. Caltrans has also ordered four longer versions of this train, which will run a Sacramento—Merced shuttle to connect to the California High Speed Rail initial segment. Again, electrifying the line and running some high speed trains to Sacramento directly would be much better, but then you have to deal with freight railroads and costs and so on.

As for the train itself, well, it's a FLIRT. The Fast LIght Rapid Transit (no you don’t have to remember that) platform has become a standard sight on Central European rails in the past decade or so, and this one is really identical to the European ones, thanks to new FRA standards. The FLIRT for Wales that was also there was way more different. There are some different labels here and there, and they picked seats that seem above average (for passengers, apparently they picked a much worse one for the driver). There's an American PTC screen instead of a European ETCS one, but that does the same job. The interesting part is where you can't see it, in particular in the windowless long corridor of doom that is a bit of a trademark for Stadler, this train's manufacturer.

Doc and Redland also have Witch AU designs as well. Ofc, these are more recent so ofc they look better than previous designs lol.

In this AU, Redland and Doc are again, surrogate parents for Rhodri and his twin sister. Here though, Redland is a lot more of a protective parent who seems... a bit different than his Space counterpart. In ways that I've yet to explain at all really. Doc on the otherhand is a lot more lax and seems to enjoy humans more than his Space self.

Either way, Rhodri has good papas.

dunno if i ever posted these here but i made these book covers last year during wintersession based on a story ive been developing on and off for years. the basic situation was that every next entry in the series had to share one color with the previous cover, and all the fonts and general placement of the type had to be similar. also each book cover had to start with the name of one of the characters.

this was before i'd taken any type classes so it's kind of rough but! i like it.
