the leaders! a little synopsis for each of them below.

reedheart was a shoo-in. he was brave, charming, loyal, and most importantly, his clan adored him. so when the position opened up due to an unfortunate incident at sunningrocks, not a soul was surprised when hopstar chose him as deputy. and what a deputy he was! reedheart was playful with the kits, patient with the apprentices, and reverent towards the elders. he bantered with his fellow warriors, yet when battle called, he lead them without flinching.

reedheart was young. only 30 moons or so when he was chosen deputy, and still training his third apprentice. it was part of his charm, to be sure. but he simply could not have had the experience and wisdom of more senior warriors. this was a nonissue as deputy— all he really needed to do was designate patrols, train the apprentices, and serve his clan as he always had.

but hopstar was not long for this world when reedheart became deputy. she passed away a few short moons later, leaving reedheart— now reedstar— to pick up the mantle. reedstar felt almost blindsided. he always knew he might be leader, but it seemed so soon. under his confident façade, reedstar constantly doubts himself. his decision-making, his diplomacy, and most of all, his connection with starclan. reedstar’s life-giving ceremony was curt, and he seldom senses his ancestors’ approval in daily life. sometimes he wonders if they outright disapprove of his leadership.

luckily, reedstar’s mate and deputy frostwing is always by his side. frostwing’s cool head and analytical ability help reedstar where his intuition fails. the two spend hours patrolling thunderclan’s territory alone, talking of plans for the future. some critics of reedstar’s regime refer to her as froststar.

reedstar is determined to maintain thunderclan’s allegiance with shadowclan, despite beetlestar’s seeming disdain towards him. he also wants to strengthen relations with windclan, considering they’ve entered a period of relative prosperity.

reedstar is still young, his leadership short. only time will tell if he can lead thunderclan to greatness or fail when it relied most upon him.

beetlestar is as stoic as her predecessor, crowstar. but where crowstar was gracious and diplomatic, beetlestar always puts shadowclan first. during thunderclan’s disease epidemic, she was one of the warriors who protested crowstar’s decision to allow thunderclan cats to study under fogflight, fearing disease transmission and thunderclan espionage.

beetlestar never took a mate or kits; all her attention is focused on her clan. if she were ever one to joke (though some doubt she ever would), she’d say that shadowclan was her one true love.

in the winter moons, beetlestar rations food very tightly, making absolute certain elders and nursing queens eat first (and warriors sometimes not at all). she seldom starts fights, but always finishes them. though many shadowclan cats have their own opinions on beetlestar’s leadership, the only cat she really listens to is fogflight, the medicine cat. the two have always been close— beetlestar holds the molly in tremendously high regard.

as for the other clans, beetlestar varies in begrudging respect for the scrupulous toestar to contempt for the young and inexperienced reedstar. she fears riverclan’s newfound ambition under dewstar and is glad the two clans don’t share a border.

beetlestar only ever wants the best for shadowclan. she will pursue it by any means necessary.

dewstar is larger than life. literally. his parents were big and powerful, his siblings are big and powerful, and dewstar himself is a force to be reckoned with. but dewstar’s true gift isn’t his brawn. it’s his silver tongue. the tom has always promised his clanmates the world. even when he was a kit, he told them he’d one day be leader and elevate riverclan to a place of hegemony over the forest. “we’ll all be fat and happy,” he’d promise his clanmates. “you just wait and see.”

it doesn’t hurt that he came from a long line of outstanding warriors. his father would have been deputy, maybe even leader, had he not been so committed to his family. it was never in question that dewkit would be great; it was only a matter of how great he would be.

as riverclan’s elderly deputy ailed, dewfang’s twin sister and medicine cat coldsky recieved an omen in the form of a dewy leaf, despite it being the middle of a hot summer’s day. riverclan’s leader took it to mean that dewfang was indeed fit to be deputy.

the rest is history.

dewstar tends to regard the other clans as a homogenous mass of inferiors. they could never have what riverclan has. the traditions, the aspirations of riverclan simply dwarfs whatever the others may put forth. it is for this reason that the normally peaceful riverclan has began to encroach on both thunderclan and windclan territory. reedstar and toestar both quietly fear dewstar, and worry that his big talk may someday become actionable.

toestar (synopsis taken from here!) trained as a tunneler before becoming warrior, deputy and then leader. during her tenure, she’s reformed windclan traditions so that every apprentice had some background in tunneling and tunneling safety whether they were tunnelers or moor-runners. she also instituted more robust rules for tunneling, like making sure no cat ever went solo and never went into the tunnels when there was a chance of flooding.

toestar loves the tunnels. she treats it as an art form and something that made windclan special, but she also knows how dangerous they could be. some believe toestar is too careful, maybe even cowardly, but windclan hasn’t lost a soul to the tunnels since she instituted reforms.

toestar has also spent her life trying to bridge the gap between tunnelers and moor-runners. she sees both practices as two sides of the same coin, and believes windclan needs both skillsets in order to thrive. as an older warrior, she trained in moor-running so that she could eventually teach both specialties.

toestar has seen young warriors grow into fine leaders. she hopes reedstar will live up to expectations, and regards him with kindness and respect. though windclan is not so friendly with shadowclan or riverclan, toestar isn’t one to start fights. still, she fears that border disputes with riverclan may soon come to a head.

My 10% Left AU

I saw the idea of a 10% left after the Dark Forest Battle AU and LOVED the idea, so I decided to run with it! Thank you to @10leftau for putting the Allegiances list up, and for coming up with the idea!

The Survivors:

The Story:

The 12 (hang on) survivors meet on the Gathering Island. Reedwhisker, being the only surviving deputy, assumes the role of leader, naming Crowfeather his Deputy. Poppyfrost takes on the role of medicine cat, she spent a lot of time with Jayfeather in the medicine den after he saved her life as an apprentice so she picked up a few things, and she also wants to honor her friend. She treats the others' injuries as best she can, and they bed down for the night. 

The next day, while helping to clear ShadowClan camp with Bumbletripe and Icewing, Poppyfrost hears loud mewing, and follows it to where a little gray lump of fur. Mistkit, daughter of Kinkfur.  Her eyes aren’t even open yet, but she’s now the sole survivor of ShadowClan. Poppyfrost is immediately reminded of her precious kits, Cherrypaw and Molepaw, who were too young to be thrown into the war with The Dark Forest. Not that it would have mattered in the end, the lawless cats they fought against didn’t care who they killed. She and the group bring Mistkit back, and Icewing takes care of her while they try to figure out what to do about nursing her. Poppyfrost suggests the Horseplace cats, remembering what Berrynose told her about the cats he and his mother and siblings lived with, and while the others are apprehensive, Reedwhisker states that it’s their best bet. Gorsetail accompanies Poppyfrost there, and while Floss is sympathetic to the kit, she explains that she has no milk to offer but mentions Coco, another loner who recently kitted and may have milk to share. Smoky takes the two Clan cats to where Coco lives, and they meet the marbled brown tabby she-cat with three kits. She agrees to take in Mistkit, and returns to the Gathering Island with Gorsetail and Poppyfrost. On the way back, Gorsetail mentions that Kinkfur must’ve fought like LionClan to protect her kits, remembering the time that her own kits went missing, and how she would have torn down the forest with her bare claws to get them back. She and Poppyfrost bond over their lost kits, and vow to do whatever they can to keep this little one safe. 

With Mistkit in the makeshift nursery with Coco and her kits (Maizie, Willow, and Stormy) and reconstruction and rebuilding efforts underway, Reedwhisker decides now is the time to receive his Nine Lives. He and Poppyfrost go to the Moonpool, and drink from it. While Reedwhisker becomes Reedstar, Jayfeather appears to Poppyfrost alongside Cinderpelt, Yellowfang, Runningnose, Mothwing, and several other medicine cats, and explains to her that while StarClan is a bit of a mess right now, they will do everything they can to teach her everything they know. They welcome her as a proper medicine cat, and allow her to reunite with her sisters, brother, and kits for a moment before returning to the waking world. She and Reedstar return to the Island with StarClan’s blessing, and though the celebration is small, it’s still something. After deliberation, the group agrees to permanently settle on the Island (at least for now while they work on burying the dead and cleaning the former Clan Camps). Mousefur decides to spearhead building more permanent structures, and Poppyfrost realizes that she hasn’t seen her eat since before the Great Battle. She tries to dismiss it, maybe she ate while she was out, but decides to keep an eye on her. 

In the days to come, the Clan cats work on rebuilding what they can. Once Mistkit and the other kits are weaned, Coco offers to help, and has even started to grow close to Robinwing in the process. Poppyfrost has started gathering herbs based on what she learns with Jayfeather in her dreams, and has put together a medicine den. Crowfeather establishes patrols each day for hunting, burials, herb gathering, and den building, and everyone pitches in. As Poppyfrost works, she notices Mousefur has started to eat again. Eventually, the she-cat confides in her that she’d has a crushing amount of survivor’s guilt, being an elder that survived when so many young, more “useful” cats are dead, and that rebuilding dens and gathering herbs makes her feel useful. Poppyfrost tries to explain to her that she doesn’t need to force herself to be useful in order to justify her survival, and that her being here keeps ThunderClan’s spirit and memory alive, but has a feeling it falls on deaf ears. She and Gorsetail start to become good friends, and the she-cat comes to talk to her often. About 3 moons pass, and the group has grown closer. Coco formally joins the Clan, takes the name Flowerpetal, and her kits are Stormykit, Willowkit, and Maizekit. Reedstar suggests they hold a Gathering, where they can remember the fallen and hold a vigil for all the cats they lost. They do so, and Reedstar suggests creating a memorial. Robinwing offers to spearhead it, and together the cats create a large pile of stones, one for each cat who passed. They vow to keep the memory of each of their fallen Clanmates alive, and to teach every kit ever born in the clan the story of the Memorial.

Mistkit and her foster siblings become apprentices about 4 moons after the Gathering, becoming Mistpaw, Stormypaw, Maizepaw, and Willowpaw. Flowerpetal moves into the Warrior’s Den, and formally becomes mates with Robinwing, while Icewing and Mintfur (who were mates before the Great Battle) announce that they are having a litter of kits, which excites the new Clan. When discussing who should mentor them, Reedstar, Crowfeather, and Poppyfrost realize that with cats of all clans here there’s really no one fighting and hunting style, so they decide that the kits will be sort of communal apprentices, with a different warrior taking each of them every day. The apprentices even come to Poppyfrost to learn the basics of healing. 

Mistpaw and her siblings become warriors 6 moons later. Reedstar names Mistpaw Mistshadow, to honor the Clan that she was born in and carries the legacy of, while her siblings are named Stormysky, Maizeseed, and Willowbranch. Icewing gives birth to 4 healthy kits: two toms named Riverkit and Thunderkit, and two she-cats names Shadowkit and Windkit, one for each of the clans. Flowerpetal is also in the nursery, expecting Robinwing’s kits. As Reedstar stands there, he realizes their new clan has no name. He decides to call it DawnClan, for the fact they are the dawn of a new era.

Haven't been catting it out as much as I've liked, so as compensation here's all four leaders + some lore about the clans: Thunderclan

Born a kittypet named Christian, Eaglestar initially joined Thunderclan after being cast out onto the streets by his twolegs and the leader taking pity on him. However, Eaglestar proved to be incredibly cunning, working his way up the ranks and using his connections to eventually take the reins of the clan altogether. With this newfound power, Eaglestar naturally abuses it for all its' worth through using it to solve petty disputes and get out of hunting for the day. He has deep-rooted beef with the Shadowclan leader who he's been rivals with since apprenticeship, constantly taking any opportunity he can to one-up or antagonize her.

Riverclan

The youngest of the four leaders at just 23 moons, Reedstar was far from the first pick for leader in the eyes of his clan. After a flood destroyed most of their camp and took the lives of both their leader and deputy in one fell swoop, the clan waited with bated breath for the medicine cat to announce the decision of their new leader. To every cat's surprise however, the medicine cat chose to appoint the easygoing Reeddance of all people, much to the shock and outrage of most of the clan who saw him as unfit. Reedstar tries his best to meet the needs of these agitated cats, but his inexperience just leads most of his efforts to be used as more fuel for the hate mob as rumors of a possible civil war in Riverclan began to spread around like wildfire. Shadowclan

Azaleastar took up the mantle of leader many moons ago after the former deputy was mysteriously found dead in their nest, and she just so happened to be the next best cat to take on the new position. Being one of the best ambush-fighters in her clan, Azaleastar had always had a knack for spotting points of weakness she could exploit... and what better opportunity was there than a broken, divided clan with a hare-brained idiot for a leader? After the flood, she's been picking at Riverclan bit by bit, giddily exploiting their lack of unison for free territory with the intention of taking over their entire hunting grounds and putting her name in the history books. The only thing keeping her from invasion is the threat of Thunderclan, who've been making advances on her territory while they're busy with Riverclan. Windclan

Not wanting to engage with the other three clans, Mangrovestar keeps Windclan in a strict state of isolation. He doesn't care to involve himself in the conflict between Riverclan and Shadowclan, instead just wanting to maintain the prosperity that's reigned in his clan for these past few moons. Of the four leaders currently active, he's easily the most popular amongst his clan for his amicable nature and appearing (mostly) morally good in comparison. However, Mangrovestar tends to be very biased and easily swayed in regard to his judgement which can rub cats the wrong way whenever they're forced to clean the elders' den for a moon while his favorites get little more than a slap on the wrist.

thunderclan medicine cat!! i just can’t settle on how i want to do character references… or an art style for that matter lol. anyway dogtooth is contemporaneous to toestar (although a bit younger and unrelated).

dogtooth was a very capable warrior. exceedingly so, as a matter of fact. powerful in both bark and bite, dogtooth was one of thunderclan’s greatest assets when it came to battle.

but all the combat skills in the world are useless when the enemy isn’t another clan, but disease. a time came when thunderclan fell into its crosshairs; cats were dying, and the survivors were starving. dogtooth could only watch on helplessly as her clan suffered.

when thunderclan’s sole medicine cat caught the illness he was trying to save his clan from and passed away, young leader reedstar reluctantly decided to implore their closest ally, shadowclan, for help.

reedstar and the gracious crowstar came to an agreement. thunderclan would send a small group of cats to be taught by shadowclan’s medicine cat and medicine apprentice. they’d receive a crash course in healing in no more than one half-moon and, starclan willing, return to thunderclan with the skills to treat the ailing.

it was to nobody’s surprise that dogtooth’s apprentice at the time, owlpaw, was chosen. there had been talk of him training in medicine when he was a kitten. but many were shocked when dogtooth herself asked to go with him.

the way dogtooth saw it, she had a duty both to her clan and to owlpaw. her fighting skills were useless at this juncture (as the clans were in a time of relative peace), but dogtooth knew she could learn medicine. after all, she had been patched up so many times she already had a solid foundation just from spending time in the medicine den.

further, dogtooth could not stomach the idea of sending owlpaw to shadowclan without his parents, siblings, or mentor. she knew he’d be fine, but she still had a responsibility to protect him, to care for him. sending him off alone would be antithetical to her sworn duty.

so off the pair went, leaving their clanmates behind. luckily, the stars aligned. shadowclan’s medicine cat fogflight, herself a daughter of crowstar, was a fantastic teacher. owlpaw was a natural healer whose connection to starclan was unparalleled. and dogtooth herself worked unbelievably hard to learn everything she could.

dogtooth and owlpaw returned to thunderclan much different. they had undergone moon’s worth of training in so little time. but what dogtooth couldn’t remember, owlpaw could fill in the gaps. what wisdom owlpaw lacked, dogtooth could provide. the pair indeed worked to save their clan from disease, and in time, thunderclan began to recover.

owlpaw received his full name in record time. he was named owlflight in honor of shadowclan’s medicine cat, whose intelligence and teaching skills had saved thunderclan in their time of crisis. dogtooth took to monastic life like a fish to water, finding a new purpose in healing her clanmates.

i’m not drawin these cats in any particular order bc there are so many threads running parallel to each other but i still need to draw crowstar, reedstar, owlpaw, fogflight… and so so many more 😭 why didn’t anyone tell me clans had a bunch of cats in them ??
