I like going back over early SU episodes and thinking about them too hard until my blood vessels in my brain pop. I enjoy the show as much as I did when I was younger but I think my enjoyment has shifted from "watching Steven go on exciting magical adventures" to "watching the horrible threads of everything that encompasses Steven in SU:F betray themselves through innocuous interactions and episodes."

sorry but i will be FOREVER confused and annoyed at the way steven universe future was received as a show for its realistic portrayal of mental illness. i already loved steven as a character, and i saw so much of myself in steven, and it pissed me off so much when i saw armchair therapist-type people online calling it "unrealistic", that steven "never showed signs of trauma" (hello??? did we even watch the same show??) and that he was "acting out of character", and that the ending was cringey or unrealistic or bullshit or something

these are such insane criticisms to me because i felt so seen by su:f's portrayal of ptsd, and i've never felt the same way with other shows that portrayed ptsd. ptsd is different for everyone, obviously, but when you go through childhood trauma, sometimes you tend to look at your childhood through rose-colored glasses (literally, in steven's case), and when you gradually grow older and mature, you start realising that no, it wasn't all that rosy actually. even so, steven still displayed symptoms of ptsd even before steven universe future. what his character growth was throughout steven universe was also a child being forced to grow up quickly, to mature so he could handle traumatized space war veterans' emotions and forcing the diamonds to fix the mess they had caused, all at the age of around 12 to 14. all the while blaming himself. literally a line he says in season 2 is that he's used to dealing with life or death situations.

mental illness isn't fucking pretty. steven universe future isn't afraid to tackle the ugliness of it, and i think that's why people took such issue with it. im tired of ppl romanticizing mental illness. sometimes it DOES make you an asshole. eventually, when you spend so long being the nice, happy-go-lucky kid steven was, burying your emotions and pain for the sake of others, you begin to crack. and that's why i felt so seen in steven. because when i was dealing with my own ptsd, i was also a fucking asshole. i wasn't myself. i was angry at everyone and everything, including myself. i didn't want to deal with facing my own pain. i couldn't even watch some of the episodes because they hit too close to home, even for me.

but the biggest reason i love su:f so much is for its ending. i dont care if there wasn't some big corruption battle with steven's kaiju form, because to me, if they had fought him like they did with the diamonds and the corrupted gems, it would have reinforced his belief that he was a monster. he saw himself on the same level of the diamonds once he had shattered jasper (made only worse when she acknowledged him as 'her diamond'. ouch.) that group hug where they helped him to calm down, when steven broke down, got me, ok.

I am rewatching SU and damnit. Rose Quartz's character is so well constructed from the begining. You start thinking on her as this perfect being. She used to cure other with her tears! She freed Planet Earth. She loved Steven even without knowing him.

Then you start to discover not so great things about her. Then it straight up, every bad thing happening to Steven is a result of her past mistakes. She shattered Pink Diamond. She started a war. She treated Pearl like a toy. Then all of Steven's misfortunes are a result of her poor behavior.

And still, she's such an interesting character. She was born into the highest chaste of a society where you're born to be a tool, not an individual. She had tantrums because she was raised by tyrants that kept throwing bigger tantrums and throwing her inside a jail cell, alone for stars know how long. She did the only thing she could for Planet earth and this costed the lives of all her friends aside from Pearl and Garnet. She poofed Bismuth for being too radical and later used her idea. She tried her best and even like that her best wasn't enough. When she thought everything could work out and grew as a person in response to Greg, she wanted to create life, unfortunately everything blew up in Steven's face. She just wanted a child that could grow and change. She just wanted peace with her found family. Was she even bisexual. Anyways, I love Rose Quartz.

watching the entirety of jrwi: riptide again. here's some important things from the first few episodes that I feel we forgot (<110 mentions too though)

Had night terrors similar to those of Kubakinta's curse in episode 5, and they eventually start returning even after Loffinlot's curse is lifted ○ All of them were about her family and/or the navy ○ I simply think people leave her out of the nightmare stuff and she deserves it. Hurt her more, please (he said, lovingly)

was actually very upset at having to use her medal to get a Loffinlot rebellion to shut up ○ This could be because she didn't want them to guess she was a spy, but I choose to believe it's because she felt guilty

"If you're gonna be sailing with someone, you should have a good relationship with them. [nervous chuckle]." She says, while asking him for information about the Black Rose Pirates (ep. 10)

Said "thank god they didn't find me" after a nightmare about the navy attacking. Even when she was supposedly a spy, who one day would have to return to the navy ○ Very unclear if she was scared of her dad, or if it's because she was a secret spy so the navy would've just killed her

Rewatching, she was suspiciously into the plundering and gold and stuff. Like that was real sus. It doesn't fit her current character much

But, plot twist, the years pass and wwx hasn't been found and the time travellers start theorising that because it was his invention, maybe it pulled him back w/ them. later on, my is killed further establishing their theory that wy is alive and avoiding them. this goes on for years until the wen discussion conference when the top shooter is an archer from the wen sect named wei ying. the closing line of this fic was jwy, lwj and the others thinking that the sunshot campaign has been lost before it even started.

Also, there was a flashback showing that wrh's spirit had lingered after his death and he saw everything that happened after. so, when he saw them making the time travel array, he entered and went back with them. also, he was the one who killed my, I think by slitting his throat.

I don't remember if this was a multi chapter fic or not (I'm only like 60% sure it was), but I remember one of the author's notes saying that while jwy is saying that he'll make his mother treat wwx better this time, he knows deep down that this isn't true and that his form of love is selfish.

I don't remember much about it, but Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian were married (it was not post canon) and Wei Wuxian was walking in the woods at Cloud Recesses without his sword, and Su She attacked him. Wwx was able to dodge Su She's attacks. Su She was insulting Wwx and his relationship with Lwj, and Wwx was taunting him for being jealous. But then Lan Xichen showed up and was really angry at Su She. I think Su She got exiled and Wwx was kind of uncomfortable with that punishment, but the Lans were like "he attacked an unarmed person in the woods, even if you weren't married to Lwj, exile is a light sentence." I cannot for the life of me remember anything else about that fic, just that I think it was kind of long?

A yuan, who should not be there tells lwj about wwx. Wwx then rescued and the three of them in the inn. As wwx rest there, JWY visited and talked. Lwj then bring wwx and a yuan to his house in capital. I think there are a sheep/goat involved?. Wwx healed but there are some injuries that cant be fully healed. I think because of that he cant do something he was proud of doing. I dont remeber if it was his hand or leg or maybe his eyes?. I think then lqr teach wwx something. Thats all i can remember. I remember Lan Zhan gets like cursed (i think he got the curse from a junior accidentally) and the curse like lowers his self control and amplifies darker urges so he takes wei ying to a cottage to live his domestic dreams but at some point wwx realizes lwj is isolating them and wwx tries to trick him to send a letter to lan sizhui. 14. Hello, hope you’re doing well! I’m asking about a fic I read a while back. Lan Zahn and Wei Ying meet as children, but Lan Zahn doesn’t take him back to the cloud recesses. Instead, years later, they meet during the disciples visit to Gusu. Lan Wangji remembers Little Wei Ying as Wei Wuxian, but Wei Ying has no memory of him.

Highlights include drunk lan wangji with other disciples, su she getting punished for trying to assault lan wangji, and more I don’t remember. I read this in 2019, so my memory is pretty spotty.

Lwj found the corpses in wwx's backyard in a grave. That grave is near a tree. messed around in some SU rp roblox games with my friends and that ended with us all making new gemsonas!! Very fun!

I got to rewatching the show while making mine and it was so good when you dont have randos on the internet telling you its bad! also not having to wait months between steven bombs this time made the pacing feel so much better!!!

My gemsona is Tugtupite. I was inspired by the gems on homeworld that are scenery. Like the walls Steven says Hi to, or the comb Blue uses.

Combining this idea and Tugtupite's ability to glow under UV light I made the gem's job to be a glowing statue. Still finalising their homeworld outfits but I'm basing them off the flowy look of greek statues with some more homeworld elements added.

I changed the gems glowing property to just be that parts of their body can glow, not related to UV or anything. Still thinking if they can turn this ability on and off at will.

For my personal Tugtupite, her glowing is tied to her emotions, stronger emotions = Stronger glow. She's shy and timid taking a while to properly warm up to her new companions. :0)

Are You Sure: Episode 4 Reaction

Just finished episode 4 of Are You Sure and I have to say, I'm pretty blown away by it. I looooooove that it returned to the vibes and energy of the first two episodes and that Jimin was feeling so much better (FINALLY lol). I really appreciated the fact that Tae was still there because I love seeing their dynamic and that they made an effort to include him in everything but I also liked that Jimin and Jungkook made it clear that this was their show. And Tae's a real one for giving them space together in certain moments to be alone, like that's a real friend.

I also deeply appreciate getting to see Jimin and JK just having normal conversations, without all the extra-ness of all the added chaos from an activity (even though I love watching those too). Watching them just sit down beside each other to view JK's SNTY choreo and talk about his lack of sleep was so great. It felt so real for me, like they would be having that same exact conversation even if the cameras weren't there. The pool scene and Jungkook having to remind Jiimin about the cameras and their conversation afterwards when they got out was um, certainly something. Idek if I can get into all that lmaoooooo. Like the looks on both of their faces, sheeeeesh I felt like I was interrupting by just watching them lol. Also not them talking about going to shower multiple times and the show not actually showing/clarifying if it was separate showers, like hellooooo, I guess we're just going skip past that part, totally not sus at all (spoiler alert it totally sus haha). Plus Jungkook's mom asking about Jimin twice in her short conversation with him on the phone was also extremely adorable, and showed that their bond just isn't for the cameras, that it runs deep, and even his mom loves him haha.

Anyway, gonna rewatch the episode about 100 more times because I loved it so much!! And the beauty of this show is its rewatch ability. It always allows you discover new things in each scene that you may have missed before, and I just can't get enough of it!!

I've gotten several woman asking me about fetish content in SU and if I ever rewatch I'll keep a tally. All of it is very standard for niche fetishes in animator/fetish art community and part of the appeal of including it is that it's not comprehensible to children or people who don't know. There was inflation, messy eating (wet & messy), giantess, Steven ending up naked or with his stomach exposed, the sexual imagery of the fusion before it was changed, everyone in the town being horny for Stevonnie immediately (changed in later episodes), mind control, I swear burping & farting but can't remember. The first two seasons (before the show got very popular and it seems like oversight was added) there are constant fetish friendly gags & plotlines, and then it suddenly drops off. A friend is telling me there was a rejected storyboard that was basically a feeder fetish arc by a specific animator but I can't find more information. But genuinely Steven universe is not special for this, it's easily found in animation and also in children's media in general.

And again I still really liked the show and it's sad that this expression of pedophilia pervades it, and I'm also glad most people are innocent to it, and I think it doesn't harm the vast majority of viewers because it's nothing to them. It is disturbing that one of the aims of inclusion of this content is to create more people with whatever fetish it is, bc the animator had whatever experience seeing it as a child and wants to spread that by memetics. It makes me sad to see it bc I'm watching for it and I resent the entanglement of adults with fetishes and art for children. We really do live in a pedophile culture.
