I've been howling with laughter here, and the most prominent thought in my mind right now is that I love Link to bits. Rhett, too, but Link and his silly one-fang grin especially. My god, this was such a funny show. And we still have the after-show to go.

as a fan who watched older gmm a lot i have to say if i just saw a picture of link i wouldnt think he was attractive. but watching the videos endeared him to me SO MUCH that i started to see the attractive side?? i mean when you get over/used to the weird look you start noticing the pretty face in movement lol. but more than that he got me hooked immedietly first couple of videos i was barely paying attention to rhett unless he was doing something outrageously funny/weird etc. (this is kinda the only reason why i can remember my reaction to one of my first gmm videos i watched ''Taking a Dust Bath - Experiment'' and how i became a more dedicated fan. i kept thinking why am i so fond of this dork on the right?? tbh at some point he removes the big fugly(imo) glasses and his hair gets messy but his attitude is still what makes the ''it'' factor lol) also the bangs looked good sometimes when he let them get a little shagy/messy/fluffy (what it is supposed to look like tbh) especially even earlier times like "the mythical show" and on the great american road trip etc. he also had the smalled office style glasses which complemented that corporate/IT emo-adjacent look of 2000s better imo. its just as he got older he started to put too much gel or whatever which made the hairstyle unusually stiff/shiny (i used to call it the lego affect) and that paired with the big square dorky glasses it was an off-putting combo to say the least. buut i was still so endeared by all of him it didnt bother me much at the time? like i would watch it and still be into his vibe. he just has some kind of attitude that is magnetic and "cute" at the same which somehow doesnt get fake/over the top? idk im still fond of shagy hair but it definitely ran its course way before it was gone. what i personally truly hated was the shaved sides with the intense and stiff high quif even worse when he was dying it poorly to coal black which absorbed all the life and moevement out of it..that was my true nemesis. the close shaved sides/fade is such a basic fuck boy cut i cant believe people used to want link to go back to that

halfway through reading this I did understand the appeal of his old cut haha so congrats on painting such a good picture. I did hate the shaved sides too, think we can both agree that no matter how he styles it his hair is the best when there's more of it. but in the end no matter what he looks like his personality is what shines through. I don't think I'd be so drawn to him if he wasn't in this era though, just because his current look is sooo appealing to me rn, but at this point I'm already hooked so... he's just extremely charismatic, and i kinda love how he's such a - you either love him or hate him - kinda person. what you see is what you get.

Can you give a basic rundown of Smosh? What do they do, why did you hate that one guy? What did you start watching them for?

I'm going to explain Smosh to the best if my ability. I am not an expert I just watch their videos every day.

Smosh is a YouTube empire* started by two best friends Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla.

*I say it's an empire because they're one of the longest lasting OG YouTubers and they have multiple channels that post regularly.

It started as one channel of them just goofing off and having fun lipsyncing or doing sketches.

I started watching probably around 2007 because that's when I got into YouTube. I has a crush on Anthony but then had a crisis when I found out his last name because that's my last name and I thought we're obviously cousins - it has yet to be confirmed so who knows?

Then Ian and Anthony sold their channel to Defy and while under Defy, a handful of new cast members were hired and more channels were made.

That's when Shayne Topp from iCarly comes in. NOW I couldn't stand Shayne. He was loud and obnoxious. He was a gym bro. He's the opposite of my type. I just hated him.

So I stopped watching Smosh as religiously as I did. Then when Damien showed up I fell head over heels for this dork who is definitely my type.

AND THEN a few years into the Defy take over, Anthony left Smosh.

That's when I stopped watching cold turkey for a few years.

AND THEN years after he left Defy shut down and Smosh was left "homeless" until Mythical (Rhett & Link) bought and saved them.

That's when I started watching again but I still couldn't stand Shayne.

I didn't start loving Shayne until I saw that he was actually being himself on camera. Still loud and obnoxious. Still very fit. But he's actually a HUGE fucking nerd who reads books, makes fun of himself, and majored in psychology in college*.

*It took Shayne 10 years to graduate college.

AND THEN Anthony came back to Smosh andn he and Ian announced that they bought Smosh.

For the last 6ish years I've been watching Smosh content regularly. I've only been watching them daily since Anthony and Ian bought Smosh.

Though I am sad about some of the main channel shows they killed. Bring back Let's Do This, Funeral Roasts and the reunions.

We need Trev, Ang, and Chanse's Funeral Roasts.

BASICALLY the best way to describe Smosh as a whole with all their channels is: comedy rooted in friendship.

They all genuinely seem to be friends, hanging out after work, showing up to weddings, etc.

I just love the vibes of it all.

Their gaming channel isn't even your run of the mill gaming YouTube channel. They do play video games but they mostly play board and table top games.

I just love Smosh with my whole heart.

currently listening to the Ear Biscuits episode where they answer what would happen to the show/s when either one of them dies and i am lowkey tearing up lmao

they tried to be casual and so lighthearted about it. RhAItt, and the Link and Markiplier tangent made me snort through my eyes welling up

personally, i would be alright with the show just stopping fully. Rhett was right, the contents of the package would not be the same if it were Rhett+friend or Link+friend. the package, of them being lifelong friends for a long time, is what got me hooked and is what is keeping me watching them

i would not mind if one of them keeps the backlog to themselves, nor would i also mind if the last episodes of them together would be paywalled. in line with what i would do if one of them dies, though, i dont know. maybe i will watch older episodes? i just want to hear their voices even if it would make me sad

i wanted to not watch this episode because i just KNEW it would affect and ache me in the middle of the day but? lmao i was just curious and wanted to hear their voice

also, i really do fucking hope one of the commenters was right

i hope they had a big long ass hug after this with the eyes closed and big hands patting their backs. i could NOT imagine one of them without the other too, its a thing i dont ever want to experience

ps: the voicemail for this episode really hit the nail on the coffin (eeey) and it made me so sad yet grateful. i love these fucking dorks so much, theyre my comfort people
