Reposted from @midnight.special "When you're on the street, and, as you're walking along, a woman turns the corner going away from you, and for an instant you have a glimpse of the side of her face, of the gesture of her shoulder, the shape of her body, and you are committed... You are in love for an instant, or your senses are rocked for an instant. That person then disappears and is lost to you forever." – Joel Meyerowitz. "Looking Outside" I am always looking outside, trying to say something that is true. But maybe nothing is really true. Except what's out there. And what's out there is constantly changing. #robertfrank 161/500 of #berlinstateofmind About 2013 I started unconsciously a graphic and photographic project. At first I saw it as a vital diary, but in reality it is a tribute to the life and work of all incredible, untiring and hungry for life people I met in #Berlin. Years later it revealed his name #berlinstateofmind and a few months ago I finished the project because I noticed a change of cycle (idea, which in the last months I have changed since I am using new photos again) My plan was to expose everything as a set in mid-2020, but for obvious reasons it was not possible, so I just start uploading everything (photos, texts, videos ...) in the order I planned in my head.(not chronologically). #berlinstateofmind#Berlin#oscarrey#oscarangelreysoto#oscaratelier#art#photography#fineart#figurative#homage#artgallery#contemporaryart#beauty#holy#luxury#artgallery#contemporary#artcollector#curator#fineart#portrait (hier: Berlin, Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ5h1moL10d/?utm_medium=tumblr

Traveling through New Orleans on a cross-country road trip in 1955, the Swiss-born photographer Robert Frank snapped a picture of a passing streetcar. The result, Trolley—New Orleans, is a searing image of everyday racism.
The streetcar’s riders, framed by the vehicle’s windows, are divided by race: white passengers sit in front, Black passengers in back, as mandated by Louisiana law under Jim Crow.
When Trolley—New Orleans appeared on the cover of Frank’s landmark photobook 'The Americans' in 1959, New Orleans’s streetcars had been desegregated for more than a year, but the civil rights struggles of the 1960s still lay ahead.

⚠️ About yesterday’s post⚠️ ‘People want to know so much,” Robert Frank answered wearily when I asked him back in 2004 about the lasting resonance of his classic photobook, The Americans. “All the time, this wanting to know. Where does it lead? Nowhere.” Swiss-born Frank had photographed what he saw with his keen outsider’s eye, capturing what Diane Arbus would later describe as “the hollowness” of many American lives. In doing so, he challenged not just the prevailing romanticism of the American pictorialist tradition but also the easy certainties of photojournalism. “I was tired of romanticism,” he told me. “I wanted to present what I saw, pure and simple.” Sean O’Hagan, The Guardian #robertfrank #theamericans #quote #quoteoftheday #artquote #photoquote #fotografia #fineartphoto #arthistoryquotes #arthistorynerd #arthistorian #arthistorymemes https://www.instagram.com/p/CF5zVE3g-An/?igshid=zgifx7rg6xtd
