"Burning from the Inside" - Bauhaus' Tumultuous Masterpiece and Its Lasting Impact on Gothic Rock
Tumblr media
"Burning from the Inside," released in 1983, represents a tumultuous period for Bauhaus. The band's frontman, Peter Murphy, was severely ill with pneumonia during much of the recording process. This absence forced a creative shift, with bassist David J and guitarist Daniel Ash stepping up to lead vocal duties on several tracks. This change in dynamics resulted in an album that feels both fractured and experimental—a mosaic of gothic rock, post-punk, and even hints of folk and glam rock.
Musically, the album is diverse and ambitious. Tracks like "King Volcano" and "Kingdom's Coming" display a haunting, almost folk-like quality, with acoustic guitars and melodic keyboards underpinning Murphy's evocative vocals. In contrast, "Honeymoon Croon" and "Antonin Artaud" veer sharply into punk and glam rock territory, showcasing the band's willingness to explore and redefine their sound. These shifts create a complex, sometimes disjointed listening experience, yet they also highlight the band's versatility and artistic bravery.
The album's titular track and "She's in Parties," the latter of which became one of the band's signature songs, underscore Bauhaus' ability to blend haunting atmospheres with lyrical introspection. "Who Killed Mr. Moonlight?" combines elements of jazz and folk, creating a sense of eerie, cinematic melancholy that would later influence David J's solo work and Ash's projects with Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets. This mixture of genres and influences gives the album a sense of conclusion, almost a farewell, which mirrors the band's internal struggles and eventual disbandment soon after its release.
Critically, "Burning from the Inside" has been seen as both a high point and a divisive record in Bauhaus' discography. Some listeners are captivated by its range and the raw emotion stemming from the band's internal conflict, while others view it as a sign of the band's fragmentation. The album's ability to polarize listeners underscores its complexity and the unique creative tensions that fueled its creation.
Looking back, "Burning from the Inside" remains a crucial piece in understanding the evolution of gothic rock and post-punk. Its experimental nature and the band's willingness to traverse new ground marked a departure from their earlier, more straightforward gothic rock approach. The album serves as a bridge to the members' future projects and continues to be celebrated for its artistic depth and innovation.

Jim Morrison of The Doors: The Ultimate Vector Portrait for Rock Fans
Jim Morrison, the enigmatic frontman of The Doors, remains one of rock's most iconic figures. Known for his powerful voice, poetic lyrics, and magnetic stage presence, Morrison's legacy continues to inspire artists and fans alike. To celebrate his influence, we are excited to introduce a unique and versatile vector portrait of Jim Morrison, designed to capture the essence of this legendary rock star.
The Significance of Jim Morrison:
Jim Morrison's contributions to rock music are unparalleled. As the lead singer and lyricist for The Doors, Morrison helped define the psychedelic rock genre with hits like "Light My Fire" and "Riders on the Storm." His poetry and deep, brooding voice became a signature of the band, and his influence extends far beyond music into art, literature, and popular culture.
Why Choose a Vector Portrait?
A vector portrait offers several advantages over traditional image formats. Unlike raster images, vector graphics are composed of paths defined by mathematical expressions, allowing them to be scaled infinitely without losing quality. This makes our Jim Morrison vector portrait ideal for a wide range of applications, from small stickers to large-scale murals.
Features of the Jim Morrison Vector Portrait:
High-Quality Formats: The vector portrait comes in multiple optimized formats, including SVG, AI, EPS, PNG, JPEG, and PDF. Each file type is crafted for versatility and ease of use, ensuring that you can incorporate the design into any project seamlessly.
Versatile Applications: Whether you’re designing custom merchandise like t-shirts, creating striking wall art, personalizing mugs, or even crafting unique tattoos, this portrait adapts to your needs. The vector format ensures that the portrait retains its crispness and detail regardless of size or medium.
Commercial Use Rights: With the included commercial license, you can create and sell derivative works based on the vector portrait. This opens up a range of business opportunities, from selling branded merchandise to offering personalized products.
Usage Restrictions: While you have the freedom to use the portrait in various products, please note that the resale of the original vector files or their distribution as standalone graphics is prohibited. This ensures that the integrity of the design is maintained and prevents unauthorized use.
How to Use the Portrait:
Integrating the Jim Morrison vector portrait into your projects is simple. For t-shirts and apparel, use the vector files to create high-resolution prints. For home décor and murals, scale the design to fit your space without compromising on quality. And for digital projects, the portrait can be adapted to fit various screen sizes and formats.
The Jim Morrison vector portrait is more than just a piece of art; it's a tribute to one of rock's most enduring icons. With its high-quality, versatile formats and commercial use rights, this portrait is a must-have for any fan, designer, or business looking to celebrate the legacy of The Doors. Embrace the spirit of Jim Morrison and let his iconic image inspire your creative endeavors.

The story of John Lennon's last day.
John Lennon said he would send them a white feather. NEW EPISODE: Episode 28:  It should’ve been a great day.  It started off with a great photo session with Annie Leibovitz and eventually led to a productive night in the recording studio.  But the night would take a tragic turn as they headed home for the evening.  Many believe the image of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, as they appear on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, was the very last image ever taken of the singer.  But there were a few other photos taken that night.  They were snapped by a fan.  And one of those photos contained the face of Lennon’s killer. This is the twenty-eighth episode in a series of episodes that’ll drop every Saturday throughout 2024.  Visit the full video here:

The Top 5 Rock Concerts of all time
Selecting the “top” rock concerts of all time is inherently subjective, as different people have different criteria for what makes a concert “great.” Some might prioritize attendance numbers, others might focus on the historical significance, and still others might look at the quality of the performance itself. That said, based on a combination of attendance, cultural impact, performance…

🔥"You need coolin', baby I'm not foolin'" 🔥 On February 27th 1972 - 51 years ago today, Led Zeppelin toured Australia for the first and only time! Photographer Philip Morris was there, at Sydney Showground, with his Go-Set press pass, to capture this moment in rock history... Wish we could’ve been there… oh to turn back time! 🙌🎸⚡️ Here’s what The Sun-Hearld Press Report had to say about the day.. "The Led Zeppelin concert at the showgrounds last Sunday must rate as one of the best ever held in Sydney - but, if the crowd had not stormed the fences, it could have been the worst. The official attendence figure was 27,000 but senior police officers at the concert estimated the crowd at "at least 30,000". According to showground officials the three stands used last Sunday have a maximum capacity of 25,000 - so whatever way you look at it the ground was dangerously overcrowded. Despite the fact that there were no seats left at mid-day and no standing room by 1.30pm., people were still coming through the gates at 2.30pm. The overcrowding that existed before the fences were stormed must never be allowed to occur again because next time someone could be killed in the crush. Once capacity is reached the gates should be closed." 🤘Happy Monday Rockers!!✌️❤️🎶 @philmorock @ledzeppelin #ledzeppelin #philipmorris #sydney #1972 #ledzeppelin #jimmypage #robertplant #johnbonham #johnpauljones #zeppelin #sydneyshowground #retrosydney #seventies #musicphotography #musichistory #music #style #icon #muse #rockhistory #rockandroll #rockicon #guitarist #wholelottalove #stairwaytoheaven #rambleon #legendsneverdie #rockroyalty #rocknroll #blendergallery (at Blender Gallery) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpKGxOUPlXH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

What a pleasure it was meeting Billy Swan today, a musician and songwriter I admire very much and whose songs I’ve performed countless times. Thank you to my friend @monsieurmatt for inviting me to stop by his truly stunning @southerngrooves studio in @crosstownconcourse for my first visit. I cannot wait to hear what they are cooking up, I know it’s going to be very special. Many people know “I Can Help”, but real ones know “Lover Please”, a rhythm and blues hit in 1962 for Clyde McPhatter. I played guitar on my friend @jackoblivian’s version on his Rat City album. Billy also worked with Kris Kristofferson during some of his peak early work, including classics like The Silver Tongued Devil and I. One of the many cool things about Billy’s original hit recording of “I Can Help” besides the trademark organ sound is the unforgettable guitar work of Reggie Young and Chip Young (no relation), two of the most-heard session guitarists of all time. Both the intro lick and the solo are throwback rockabilly guitar master strokes, required reading for any guitarist interested in the style, and a lot of fun to play. For years I’ve performed regularly at the @guesthousegraceland in the lobby lounge as an acoustic duo, playing many Elvis songs, naturally, and a variety of Memphis classics, along with a few of my own tunes here and there. But one song I make a point to play every single time is “I Can Help”, because it was of course recorded by Elvis Presley. Being a songwriter myself, I like to share with the guests what I know about the many songwriting greats who composed the music that comprises the Elvis Presley repertoire, people like Otis Blackwell, Lieber and Stoller, Pomus and Shuman, and Billy Swan. So it was really cool to meet him today. Thank you, guys. I love Crosstown Concourse and enjoy my experience there every time. What a cool thing we have here in Midtown. I’m always happy for any excuse to stop by. #BillySwan #songwriters #songwriting #rockabilly #rockandroll #rockhistory #Americana #Memphismusic #Elvis #reggieyoung #chipyoung #clydemcphatter #kriskristofferson @elvis (at Crosstown Concourse) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co0R6aZvTOI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
