September 5, 1980
unmasked tour
Bingley hall - Stafford, England
📸: Ross Halfin
"Truth to tell, the last couple of the band's concerts I attended in the States were really very much perfunctory, going through-the-motions sort of affairs. While the gigs were enjoyable on the level of total extravagance, it was obvious that the KIϟϟ members themselves had become jaded and disenchanted with their roles, like a quartet of actors who've played the same parts in the same play for so long that their performances have become quite spiritless. But the departure of Peter Criss (always a weak link) and the arrival of the excellent Eric Carr has heralded a new beginning for the group. The Foxy fellow doesn't bother to sing 'Beth' from a stool and toss red roses into the audience, he just concentrates on the job at hand and contributes a less pedestrian, more driving beat than his predecessor, strengthening up the band's backbone for the first time in years" (Sounds, 9/13/80).
Iron Maiden, who had then recently toured the U.K. in support of their debut album, took a break for KIϟϟ' U.K. leg. KIϟϟ conducted a U.K. press conference on September 4 after arriving in country on the 3rd. The band was invited to a dinner at Legends on Old Burlington Street on the evening of the 4th. The guests included representatives from Phonogram including managing directors, product and marketing managers, and A&R/press staff.

Hello! How are you?
I am reading about political parties during the Regency era and I have a question. Which of Austen's characters do you think are Whigs and which are Tories?
You really going to force me to relearn what Whigs and Tories were? Cruel, cruel nonnie. I'm going to cheat, this is from my favourite thesis on Jane Austen, Above the Vulgar Economy:
As Josephine Ross in Jane Austen: A Companion maintains,
The clear-cut distinctions of modern parliamentary politics had yet to emerge; and while the Whigs in the House of Commons tended to represent the interests of the aristocracy and upper classes, as well as expressing liberal ideals, the Tories – with their broad adherence to the more traditionally middle-class principles of upholding the Crown and keeping disaffection in check – were more identified with the landed gentry, and educated, but modestly situated, families such as the Austens.
At the time, the two party system was still evolving, and there was a great deal of dissention in the ranks. There were reactionaries, reformers and radical members in both parties. There were conservative, moderate and liberal Tories, and the Whig party was factionalized into Portland Whigs, Rockingham Whigs, Benthamites and Foxites to name a few.
Also, I have gotten the impression from reading other novels (eg. Wives & Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell) from the time that often people knew which party their family voted for, but knew almost nothing else. Something that totally still happens today!
Here is another great passage:
In fact, when Pride & Prejudice was originally written as First Impressions in 1796 and 1797, Austen‟s novel appears to have been taking a stand in favor of two controversial economic proposals being debated in the House of Commons and in the press, a national minimum wage and Poor Law reform, thus Pride & Prejudice was much more than a satire of manners but was also a political critique of Jane Austen's society. Both proposals were championed at the time by Tory Prime Minister William Pitt, the Younger and supported by liberal Tories and moderate Whigs. Both proposals were vehemently opposed by reactionary Tories and radical Whigs. The eligible bachelors in Pride & Prejudice are all associated with the Whig party, as is Lady Catherine de Bourgh, but the characters, like the Whigs in the House of Commons, have very different attitudes towards money and the working class.
Additionally, Austen's contemporaries would have known that Elizabeth Bennet's agricultural county, Hertfordshire, was, at least for the working class, the poorest county in England, just as Fitzwilliam Darcy's Derbyshire, financially stimulated by the Industrial Revolution, was the richest county, and Lady Catherine de Bourgh‟s Kent was a mixed county that varied enormously, from parish to parish, in prevailing wages and in treatment of the poor. The admirable Whig characters, like Fitzwilliam Darcy and Charles Bingley, are kindly and generous, while the radical Whig, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, is selfish and stingy, and George Wickham is simply an opportunist and a scoundrel. By its presentation of the different Whig characters, the text appears to be appealing to Whigs to be generous to the working class and encouraging Tories to look approvingly on those Whigs who are willing to financially support the poor.
Pride and Prejudice also includes a large number of characters who are servants, many identified by name. As most of them have no dialogue and do nothing to forward the plot, their presence in the novel at all may seem curious, but the depiction of the working class in Pride and Prejudice is more subtle to the modern reader than it would have been to Austen‟s original readers. The servants in Pride and Prejudice refute the assumptions of prominent Whig economists and politicians, Edmund Burke, Frederic Eden and Patrick Colquhoun, who depicted the lower class as ignorant, wasteful and immoral. Lady Catherine‟s financial neglect of the poor in Kent conforms to the economists‟ advice based on their assumptions that the working class was already adequately compensated for its labor and that poverty was the result of the irresponsible behavior of the poor. In stark contrast, Fitzwilliam Darcy‟s generosity to the poor in Derbyshire serves as a model response to poverty, and the general prosperity of Darcy‟s home county suggests that the solution to poverty is a combination of higher wages and liberal charity, exactly what the Prime Minister was proposing in 1797.
The general impression that I have gotten is that both Whigs and Tories were relatively ineffective. Anyway, a pretty clear answer for one character:
Pride and Prejudice‟s hero is almost certainly a Whig as well since the choice of the name, Fitzwilliam Darcy, is highly suggestive. Lord Fitzwilliam, later Earl Fitzwilliam, was from the north of England and, as historian William Hague describes him, one of the “Three great Earls of the Whig aristocracy”
Anywho, I'm not going to go through and sort them all since it seems fairly ambiguous who would be affiliated with which party. Also, almost everyone on earth holds some views that are extremely contradictory, so it's impossible to tell.

Reptile parties man honours dead American. George Floyd is recognized by having a new species of turtle named in his honour.A peer reviewed paper has formally named a recently discovered species of Australian Saw-shelled Turtle Wollumbinia georgefloydi Hoser, 2021 in honour of George Floyd. Floyd was bashed and killed by four police officers at Minnesota, USA, in 2020 and his death sparked outrage and protests globally. The naming of this turtle in honour of George Floyd follows a massive three volume monograph on the Australasian Tree Frogs published by Hoser in 2020 in which Hoser announced the formal discovery of 62 new species. One of those new to science species was also named in honour of George Floyd. At that time, Raymond Hoser wrote: “The species is named in honour of the late George Floyd, a victim of an unprovoked attack by four thug police officers at Powderhorn, in downtown Minneapolis, USA, on 25 May 2020.” A second frog species was also named Kumanjayiwalkerus kumanjayi in honour of Kumanjayi Walker a 19 year old Aboriginal (Black) Australian who was unlawfully shot and killed by a police officer in 2019. Hoser wrote: “The species Kumanjayiwalkerus kumanjayi sp. nov. is named in honour Kumanjayi Walker, another indigenous Australian victim of an execution by a racist white Australian police officer in the Northern Territory (NT), being one of over 400 such victims in Australia since 1990. The 19 year old was shot and killed by NT Police Officer Zachary Rolfe in November 2019.” Hoser also wrote: “The world is full of memorials and species named in honour mass murderers, thieves and despots and it is appropriate that victims of these people should also be honoured occasionally.” The frog paper was published in hard copy on Friday 5 June 2020 and following publication of this paper, a number of people have heeded Hoser’s words and toppled statues of racists and murderers and thrown them into rivers and lakes. The paper naming the new turtle species in honour of George Floyd was published on 16 August 2021. Wollumbinia georgefloydi occurs in the wet tropics region of north Queensland, Australia, bounded by the Burdekin Gap in the South and found as far north as about Cape Flattery. Hoser also named another newly discovered species Wollumbinia darnellafrazierae Hoser, 2021. Wollumbinia darnellafrazierae is named in honour of Darnella Frazier. Born 2003 in Nashville, Tennessee to parents LaTangie Gillespie and James Frazier. She has three brothers and one sister. Most of Darnella’s life, however, has been spent in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After being active in varsity basketball, she graduated from Roosevelt High School in that city. She is an American woman who (at age 17) video recorded the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, and then posted her video on Facebook. Because Frazier’s video contradicted the initial Minneapolis police account of Floyd’s death, it sparked global protests regarding police abuse, lies and corruption. Demonstrations demanding justice for Floyd exploded over the summer of 2020 involving an estimated 26 million U.S. citizens in more than 2,000 cities across the nation. Similar protests took place in over 60 nations around the world. The Frazier video sparked the greatest level of demonstrations and protest in human history. More immediately her video led to more intense monitoring of police behaviour around the world including investigations of past acts of police killings of unarmed black men, women, and children. Without her video, the Floyd death would have been ignored and the victim blamed. The genus name Myuchelys Thomson and Georges, 2009 was illegally coined as a genus name to over-write Wollumbina Wells, 2007 by a pair of taxonomic vandals and police protected criminals, Scott Thomson and Arthur Georges. The name Myuchelys is an objective junior synonym of Wollumbina and the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) has ruled that the illegally coined Myuchelys should never be used. In spite of the ICZN ruling of 2021 against the thieves, Thomson and Georges have aggressively promoted their illegal name online, including on wikipedia pages that they obsessively control and so a warning against their reckless misinformation is given here.Raymond Hoser, is the world’s foremost expert on reptiles and frogs. He has authored numerous major books on wildlife, handles the world’s deadliest snakes on a daily basis, does reptile shows for kids and adults and invented Reptile Parties for birthday parties, which are now copied by businesses worldwide and hailed as one of the greatest wildlife conservation and education initiatives in recent times. To date he has discovered and named over 350 species of reptiles, as well as discovering and naming dozens of species of frogs and mammals. Not as well-known is that in 1990 Hoser was bashed by several police in a police station in Melbourne, Australia and nearly killed in the same manner George Floyd died. Hoser escaped that attack with a broken nose, smashed back and arms and required surgery and years of ongoing medical treatment. He also got hit with a series of falsified criminal charges which he eventually beat. Hoser's story was published in the best-selling books The Hoser Files and Victoria Police Corruption - 2. The Victoria police officer who led the attack on Hoser, Richard George Valentine was found guilty in the courts of unlawful assault at the same time Hoser's name was cleared of the false charges, but Valentine kept his job in the police where he could continue to engage in acts of corruption and brutality. The lead police witness against Hoser was a rent-a-witness, being a police protected criminal and pedophile named Brett David Winduss, whom even Valentine could not protect forever and was eventually jailed for a vicious attack on young girl in Kew, Melbourne. The unprovoked attack on Hoser by the corrupt police was sparked after Hoser complained in writing of another police officer (Ross Bingley) who was corruptly protecting a gang of criminals attacking taxi drivers in the 1980's. While an internal police investigation also found against Bingley, he too kept his job. Hoser noted "Watching the attack on George Floyd on TV, brought back the memories of the pain and suffering I suffered at the hands of Valentine and his gang of thugs 30 years ago. ... it hit a raw nerve. ... even now I suffer 24/7 pain in my back, elbows and hands as a result of several police jumping on top of me on the floor of the Kew Police station. ... this sort of vicious attack you never recover from."

#kisstory : Kiss September 5, 1980 UNMASKED TOUR, Bingley Hall, Country Showgrounds, Stafford, England, UK. European openers IRON MAIDEN had recently toured their home country extensively with their first album, so they opted to take a break from the tour, and GIRL, the band featuring Phil Lewis (soon to be singer with L.A. GUNS) and Phil Collen (soon to be in DEF LEPPARD) along with the Laffy brothers, Gerry and Simon, were brought in to open the five shows in England. GIRL had a cover of KISS' DO YOU LOVE ME? on their debut album SHEER GREED. In 1989, NOLA's own LILLIAN AXE covered MY NUMBER, another song from SHEER GREED. From SOUNDS magazine (09/13/1980): "The departure of Peter Criss (always a weak link) and the arrival of the excellent Eric Carr has heralded a new beginning for the group. The foxy fellow doesn't bother to sing BETH from a stool and toss red roses into the audience, he just concentrates on the job at hand and contributes a less pedestrian, more driving beat than his predecessor, strengthening up the band's backbone for the first time in years." Tagged by the lovely @austennerdita2533. Thank you! Sorry it’s taken me awhile to get to it.
1. Favourite book of all time?
I really do have too many favourites, but I’d probably have to choose “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen. Boring, I know, but there it is. :P
2. What are you currently reading?
I just finished the worst book called “Ruby McBride” (and yes, I totally picked it up because of the name) and I’m still working my way through “Dragonfly in Amber” by Diana Gabaldon.
3. Have you ever considered writing a book?
YES. I have a couple of stories in mind that could work. (I don’t imagine ever making a living off of writing, but more and more I’d love to at least get one or two things published—which is not an unreasonable goal, I think.)
4. Favourite series?
“The Christy Miller Series” by Robin Jones Gunn. (Honourable mentions: the “Anne of Green Gables” series and the “Little House on the Prairie” series.)
5. Book you’d like to read?
So many! I’ve been meaning to read “The Luminaries” by Eleanor Catton, among others.
6. What’s on your Tbr pile?
A billion, really, but immediately on my nightstand:
The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton
The rest of the “Cousins’ War” series by Philippa Gregory
The Lost Diaries of Susanna Moodie by Cecily Ross (plus the original books by Susanna Moodie and Catherine Parr Trail)
The rest of the “Morland Dynasty” series by Catherine Eagle Harrod (although it’s a lot and I’m not super eager, so we’ll see)
so many classics! The Professor by Charlotte Bronte comes to mind
“100 Years of Fashion”
the iZombie comics (I’m on the second one)
7. Favourite fictional character(s)?
( @austennerdita2533 I love all of your answers!) Goodness, this is like choosing favourite children. Anne Shirley is way up their, but I also have a soft spot for the less flashy characters, like Fanny Price. Jane Bennet is one of my absolute favourites.
8. Favourite ship of all time?
How much time do you have??
Christy and Todd from “The Christy Miller Diaries”
Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe
Jane Bennet and Charles Bingley (let’s be real, I love all the Jane Austen couples)
John Harmon and Bella Wilfer from “Our Mutual Friend”
Elizabeth Woodville and Edward IV (That counts, right?)
9. Pick up the book closest to you, open page one and write down the first paragraph.
Sadly, I am in the family room and nowhere near my books.
10. What’s the 1st fandom you were in?
Oh I was going to say “Little House on the Prairie” but first was totally “The Babysitters Club” hahaha.
Tagging: whoever would like to do this! Specifically, @thefaultinourstarwhale, @boleyngirl39, @mystical-flute, @bookwormchocaholic, and @jennellynelly, if you’d like. :D

Quote
Orgoglio e pregiudizio, Jane Austen

The impact of the internet on marketing
Why should you study internet marketing?
Owing to the transformation that has been taking place across the globe over the past two decades, it is crucial for people to know about internet marketing. The traditional practices associated with marketing have been changed by the digital age. This shift began in 1994 when the first banner ad was created (Brennan, Ross).
The digital marketing process is still growing and attracting hundreds of thousands of marketing dollars that no one can afford a chance to miss on (Aggarwal 68). Businesses have also shifted to online marketing as a result of developed technology and establishment of solid online platforms that support their connection to the customers. Whether you are a consumer or a business owner/manager, internet is your best friend.
For marketers, there is no better medium of getting access to the largest consumer on the basis of their segmentation than the available online platforms. Consumers have also evolved and seek their products through the internet by searching over the famous sites that sellers use to market their products.
Apart from saving time for both parties involved, it also saves energy and money for them. Other forms of marketing and promotion activities done through the print or televised media only supplement or rather complement internet marketing. Owing to its availability in virtually every place, the process has become even cheaper and reaches an even greater number of clients per single marketing campaign (Aggarwal 68).
E-commerce is the cornerstone on which the future of the global economy is founded. With the capacity at which it is being promoted, developed, and embraced, any individual who will not get on board with the internet transactions and marketing (which basically form the base of e-commerce) will have no place in the business world. This is because the products will be marketed, sold and purchased over the internet (Chih-Hui et al. 96). Internet marketing is the process that will make all these activities possible as it enhances the growth of business-to-business as well as business-to-consumer interactions (e-commerce).
The developments done so far mean that there is a necessity for new strategies, skills, and knowledge highly demanded in this field of business. The marketers are now required to be well-conversant with technology and be able to work together with the IT colleagues. It therefore takes more than the marketing skills and knowledge to succeed in internet marketing.
It is always sound to save the last for the best. The best feature associated with internet marketing that makes it stand out from all other forms is its interactivity capability. Unlike Televised or print adverts, internet marketing comes in form of conversation instead of the normal broadcast. This means that the consumer has a chance to inquire more about a product when it is being promoted before buying it. This process is thus based on the inbound marketing that pulls, rather than push (outbound).
