I really appreciate the lengths in which Arknights makes sure that it's events are accessible to new players as well as old players but it really does feel like Near Light is suffering from this more than most events. You get these long story chapters between Viviana and Margaret which show them really quite evenly matched, or Tola and Margaret, or Monique and Iwona, or Roy and Sona/Ashlock and...you get the picture right?

Because so many of them are in earlier stages (with Tola being in the lastest of the bunch in NL-8), none of them feel anywhere near as impressive. Viviana has the same stats as the Nova elites with a somewhat stronger special move, Tola is weaker than a Nightzmora Follower, and the Lazurites don't feel anywhere near as strong as the story makes them out to be, especially since you can deploy right next to them and take them out easily enough. Tola really took out both the Withering Knight and the Corrupted Knight on his own? Really?

I feel like Near Light could have benefited from being a harder event overall just because with all the big name characters and small scale boss fights it really lets itself down that until Dikialopis none of the named enemies in boss stages feel as hard as Tytus. I accept this is probably a fairly petty complaint but I'm experience the ludonarrative dissonance here.

EDIT FOR LITTLE CULTURAL CONTEXT ON THE SECOND PICTURE cuz I saw someone asking on the reblog: This was actually came from a thought I had of how Armorless Union has so much similarities with Petrus (Penembak Misterius). On the 60′-90′s in Indonesia, back on the “New Order Era”, there was a known phenomenon called “Petrus” (Penembak misterius = mysterious shooter). Pretty much it was like Armorless Union: No one knows if it truly existed or not, or was it only a figure created to cause fearmongering. The story that circulated among the folks though dub them as Part of the intels working for the then-regime who was tasked to take down alleged criminals (mostly thugs [preman] who can be identified from the possession of tattoos on their body). No one knows who were these Petrus are, but there’s stories of thugs who usually hang around the market (dubbed as ‘preman pasar’) suddenly found dead, but nobody ever know who kill them. As the time goes, however, it becomes sort-of public secret that their category of ‘alleged criminals’ are... Well, I can’t explain much but let’s just say, It’s pretty much just like how Armorless Union category of ‘unruly knights’ as their target is rather ambiguous, in a sense of ‘how and who consider them as unruly, or as a threat’.

This is also why people starts to make jokes “Look out for any roaming meatball seller. If you can spot em having walkie-talkie, that means you’re fucked! He must be an intel looking for you!” While meatball seller (Tukang bakso) is the popular trope, but the joke itself goes to any (usually roaming) street food seller that just looks unusual. Mainly who are: too young, too fit, the food they sell taste shitty.

Somehow it’s worse that they’re doing things because seemingly it’s just their job? Especially in Arknights, where there’s greedy assholes, actual genuine monstrous dickheads, etc, but somehow these two?

Just...Maybe there’s a story bit i missed, decent odds cause i’ve been spotty about it and it’s in one of the other event story bits, but this degree of a lack of empathy hits different somehow.

Like at least with the dudes who wanted money, or felt slighted, or are just Hyper Patriots or Dedicated to the cause to horrifying degree’s i can kinda empathize with even if they’re being out and out monsters about it all but these two just feel...

Off? I feel as if i’m not parsing something here, for me to get this kinda heated, although it may well be outside factors as well, but still.
